10/10 easy, fast, stress-free and fun experience buying a used car with Duran. Scheduled the test…read moredrive, came out and verified that the car was in great condition, and completed the purchase in a couple of hours. Duran and all the other staff made the purchase a great experience-- this is the only way to buy a car going forward.

BUYER BEWARE: "CarMax Certified" Truck Failed in Hours, Leaving Me Out $27k Cash…read more I purchased a "CarMax Certified" 2022 Nissan Frontier (48,000 miles | VIN: 1N6ED1EKXNN614393) from the Clackamas location for over $27k IN CASH, expecting a reliable vehicle for my family and business. Our salesperson, Ian, was professional and great to work with, but the confidence ended less than two hours later. While driving home over the Oregon Coast Range with my 7-year-old daughter, the transmission began slipping, hesitating, and violently jerking forward at highway speeds. A local mechanic inspected it, and Nissan later confirmed a major transmission failure. Worse, Nissan found clear evidence that the transmission had been previously tampered with, removing the factory warranty coverage and throwing responsibility entirely back onto CarMax. The Corporate Runaround: Instead of standing behind their "certified" vehicle, CarMax has subjected me to a week of exhausting escalation and dodging: Service Manager John (Beaverton): Has held the truck for 6 days without providing a diagnosis. He doesn't return calls, ignores Nissan's service department, and literally laughed at the mechanical failure. Operations Manager Elliot: Recited a rigid corporate script to explain why he won't help. General Manager Eugene (Clackamas):Friendly enough, but completely lacks the authority to resolve the issue. The "Solutions" Offered: CarMax has verbally offered completely unacceptable options, refusing to put any of their extensions or promises in writing: 1. A sketchy repair: Forcing me to accept a truck with a known history of tampering, zero Nissan powertrain warranty, and a used/rebuilt LKQ transmission (which Nissan mechanics advised is a dangerous long-term solution). CarMax refused to include a MaxCare warranty to offset this massive risk. 2. An indefinite replacement search:Waiting forever for them to source a truck from across the country, while expecting *me* to pay the shipping costs for their failure. They refuse to do a fair price exchange for comparable trucks already available locally. 3. The Refund Trap: They told me it will take up to 10 days just to get my cash back. The Bottom Line: Vehicles break, but the way CarMax handles it is the real nightmare. Because they are holding onto my $27,000 cash for over a week, I am physically trapped without transportation and completely blocked from buying a reasonable replacement vehicle elsewhere. They gave me a small SUV rental that doesn't fit my business needs, meaning I am actively losing work income every single day while they sit on my money. My Advice: Do not trust Carmax. I thought I bought peace of mind; instead, I bought a $27k project, a week-long fight, and a complete loss of my transportation and livelihood.

I honestly don't think these guys deserve the level of criticism they get. My situation wasn't…read moresimple, and they worked with me every step of the way. I came in looking for a Toyota that I could ship to Hawaiʻi for my vacation home -- and anyone who knows Hawaiʻi inspections understands how strict they are. This was not an easy order. Lot 99 went above and beyond. They let me inspect every vehicle inside and out, and they never rushed me. Yes, a few vehicles didn't pass my personal inspection checklist -- but that's because Hawaiʻi's requirements are extremely strict. Every Toyota I looked at would have passed Oregon's standards without an issue. They let me keep looking until I found one that I knew would pass in Hawaiʻi, and this took days. They didn't complain once. In fact, they made the whole process enjoyable by joking around and keeping things light. Here are the inspection points I had to meet for Hawaiʻi: No sharp edges or cosmetic damage that could fail safety. No flaking rust on frame joints -- a tough requirement in rainy Oregon, where even well‑maintained 15‑year‑old vehicles show some surface rust. When I was using my inspection snake camera, they came out and offered their lift to make the job easier. That turned a 30‑minute job into 10. Because they were doing maintenance (battery swaps, etc.), some vehicles had cleared diagnostic monitors. They let me test‑drive the truck long enough for all readiness monitors to reset. I hooked up my OBD‑II scanner, confirmed no codes, and even verified it passed an emissions test -- which Hawaiʻi requires. Final results: Underbody: Pass Rust: Pass Engine & diagnostics: Pass Road test: Pass (just needs an alignment -- no big deal, I'll do that in Hawaiʻi) Bumper replaced and painted -- Pass (I requested and paid for this) Carfax/ownership/accident history -- Pass (minor incident, fully documented) VinCheck -- Pass Clear title -- they emailed me a copy immediately when I asked Bonus: They even helped coordinate transport to the port for shipping to Hawaiʻi. They're still assisting me with timing and logistics. If you're buying a used car, bring the right tools and do your due diligence -- that's just part of the process. But from my experience, Lot 99 treated me fairly, worked hard to help me, and made a very difficult task much easier. I appreciate everything they did.

They are nice to you until they are not. They make you believe they want to help you but the moment…read morethey get any amount of money from you they will change their mind. I was told three times they would refund my money because it was just to take the car off the market, that it wasn't for anything else but that, it was a lie. Everything was supposed to go through pending the approval with the bank (that's what they said) they lied. I wish I had never stepped on that ground. I read a review where the individual states they did this same thing to them... I see a pattern. There needs to be a NO STAR rating available.
