A few months ago I was desperate for physical healing, as the tension of my neck was causing me so much pain that I was out of work. My doctor recommended acupuncture, but I was hesitant to try it again. However, after the first session with Jeff, I could visibly see and feel the difference! I go to Serafina for rolfing. I've been seeing Serafina for 2 years and she's absolutely amazing. I love rolfing because it's a very firm type of massage that gets results. Serafina is always bubbly and is wonderful at her job. I went in initially because my shoulders were creeping up towards my head and I was always having issues with my muscles being tight. For the past 3+ years, I've been fighting debilitating hip and back problems. Before I saw Shuriu it got to the point where I could no longer walk, sit, or stand for more than a minute. After working with Shuriu, I have been able to walk for hours before feeling any pain. Throughout my struggle to regain my health, I have seen 6+ physical therapists. Although she does not take the "traditional" medical approach, Shuriu has been far more efficient and helpful than any physical therapist I have seen. Here's why: (1) The exercises she has given to me feel as if they're tailored to the imbalances in my body; instead of giving me general exercises, she gives me exercises that target very specific muscles that are weak in my body that have been ignored by physical therapists. (2) Shuriu is extremely knowledgeable about the body, and of course, healing the body! Plus, Shuriu understands the dancer's body, especially its muscular strengths and weaknesses. As I have danced for 11 years, her knowledge of the dancer's body has been incredibly helpful to me and she has thus been able to treat me better than any physical therapists has. (3) She concentrates on ensuring that I perform her exercises with proper placement and technique. Because of this, I notice an immediate difference not just after every session I have with Shuriu, but also every time I do the exercises she gives me at home (This definitely didn't happen when I underwent physical therapy). Right after I do her exercises, I notice that my alignment and posture drastically improves- it improves so much that I even walk differently! Furthermore, not only does my alignment and posture improve, but I can sit, stand, and walk longer. (4) Shuriu takes a wholistic approach, while most physical therapists who concentrate on fixing only one "problem" area. She understands that your body is connected, and that imbalances/weaknesses in one area can negatively affect other areas of your body. Thus, her focus is on getting rid of bad habits, training your muscles to work properly, and aligning your body to help you reach your maximum potential. (5) Unlike several physical therapy places I've been to, Shuriu pays attention to and demonstrates that she cares about her clients. Not only does she give me individualized attention, send me detailed emails on how to do my exercises, but she's also fun to talk to at the same time! (6) Last but not least, Shuriu had many solutions that help that I would not have normally thought of. For example, I've been having trouble sitting on account of my herniated disc and hip flexor tendonitis. She introduced me to a cushion that I carry with me to class, which makes me to sit with proper posture, thus allowing me to sit 5x longer without pain. All acupuncturists are NOT the same -- it makes a huge difference who treats you! I've known Jeffrey for more than 25 years and he's helped me with so many ailments, aches and pains that I've lost count. I kept pushing my husband to see him because of his horrible recurring sinus infections but he refused. He finally went out of desperation and started draining almost immediately.
