Communication disaster and 3x the cost! I was having trouble finding someone to repair my refrigerator on short notice so I was happy that Pius said he services Montgomery County. I told him my refrigerator was no longer staying cold and asked his availability. He said he could come up that afternoon. I waited for him to continue, but he didn't say anything. So I then asked him what time, and he jumped on me for daring to ask him the time when we had not yet talked about the refrigerator or the cost. [So that was the first oddity - he kept pausing in the conversation, so I had to keep it going, and then he gets upset that I don't go in the direction he wants.] He then asks me a number of questions about the refrigerator and diagnoses that it's a defrost control problem. He tells me about 4 things he has to replace and says that the cost will be precisely $675. He tells me I must turn off the refrigerator immediately so that the parts can warm up before he gets there. I had to work on that, so we hung up. After a while, I called him back and said I couldn't figure out how to turn it off, and could I send him a picture of the control panel so he could tell me how to turn it off. He said "it depends what number you called." I was confused. I asked him what phone number he would like me to text the picture to. He refuses to answer and insists that I must tell him what number I called. So I told him the phone number I called, and he says that it's a landline and I cannot text the photo there. I wait for him to continue, but he says nothing. So again, I asked if he'd like to give me a different phone number that I can text the picture to. So then he gives me the cell phone number. [Talk about going in circles! I'm really thinking this is a hard guy to communicate with, but it's OK if he fixes my refrigerator today.] While on the phone with him, I figure out how to pull out my refrigerator and I was able to simply unplug it. Then he tells me that he will come between 7-10 pm (whereas earlier, he said he could come in the afternoon). He tells me that he will call me before coming to confirm, and I must pick up the phone because if I don't pick up, he'll go on to the next person. I said that I'd try, but if I was in the bathroom or something, couldn't he leave a voicemail, and I'd call right back? He said no, that's not the way it works, he's telling me now he'll call between 7 and 10 pm, and I have to pick up right at that time, otherwise no service. [Now I'm thinking, wow, this guy really is difficult, but I still said OK.] Well, an hour or so later, another company I had called called me back and said he could come out early afternoon. I asked the cost, and he said it'd be between $150 and $300 depending on what parts he had to replace. I said done! That guy came out as promised, fixed the refrigerator, and I paid him a total of $230. That compared to Pius's quote of $675!!! A bit after my refrigerator was repaired (mid-afternoon), Pius called and left me a voicemail (not saying anything except to call him back). I called him back, and just waited to see what he would say. Absolute silence. So I told him I already got someone to come out and he didn't need to come tonight. [Again, though, weird! He's the one who left me the voicemail. He should tell me why he called, especially since it was so much earlier than he said he would call!] So overall, maybe it was just me - you decide - but I found him exceedingly difficult to communicate with, rather unpleasant, and inflexible. To top that off, he was going to charge me 3x what I actually paid to the company that actually fixed my refrigerator. read more

Peaco showed up on time, worked carefully but efficiently, and did what he could to fix my stove; He even suggested I only pay him for the service call since he wasn't able to get the broken burner working as this is a special order part! After some gentle coaxing, I was able to elicit an opinion from him about whether it worth repairing the stove or buying a new one. The mark of an honest repairman- "Replace it" he told me, as the parts and labor would be more than buying a new stove. (We're talking about a special-order stove, not the typical GE or Whirlpool.) Asked for $995 upfront after turning our Viking oven on and looking inside it. Pius came recomened by a friend. After his diagnosis that required no tools whatsoever he said we need an electric controller. He could not tell me the exact part and that it would take hours trying to locate it through his vendors. Service call was $95. When i mentioned that he just came in and said he needs $995 to fix it i said this sounds like a scam right off the news. He countered with $600... I asked for a contract and he started to show me work orders and receipts that he had for other customers. I mentioned these are not contracts. No real diagnosis of the actual problem ("the Compressor is bad), will quote an outrageous price to fix ($1200), then offers to sell a refurbished one to you. We asked to see the model - never showed us and did not give any info. Shows up to install after ignoring our calls to see model and it's a 10 year old model that didn't work when installed. Told him to take it away but he had to leave for another appointment. Tried to come back and fix it - we told him we didn't want it again. Then he wants to charge us to haul it away Complete scam. I live part of the year in Falls Church and came home to find water in front of the 30-year-old Whirlpool washing machine in our basement. I called Peaco Appliance Service first thing the next morning and spoke with Pius. Even though there was nothing emergent about my problem, he said he could be here within the hour and for $95 he would make the trip, diagnose the problem, and tell me what it would cost to fix it. He arrived less than an hour later, and in a couple of minutes he had the cover off the machine and discovered a leaking valve. He examined all parts of the washing machine and said everything else was fine, and the total to fix the valve (including the $95 for the service call) would be $235. He thinks this washing machine will be fine for at least another ten years, and I believe he knows what he's talking about. Our dryer has wobbled for years, so I asked him if that could be causing a problem. He said it shouldn't cause a problem, but it could easily be fixed. He adjusted one of the feet and the wobbling doesn't happen anymore. He did not charge me for doing this. I asked him a question about our GE freezer on which I thought was a leaking seal, and he took a look at it. He said it wasn't leaking, and said there was condensation on the front of the refrigerator between the freezer and fridge doors. Because it was caused by a problem GE knew about when they made this freezer, they (GE) had a built in solution. He showed me a switch inside the refrigerator that says to turn it "if moisture appears on exterior", and ever since he flipped that switch there is no longer coldness and moisture on the front of the refrigerator between the freezer and refrigerator doors. No charge for flipping that switch, nor for knowing the switch was there. If the only problems in my life were problems with home appliances, I would call Pius at Peaco and my life would become problem-free. read more

This company, or at least one of its employees, is engaged in a scam that I've read about here and that just happened to me. The employee shows up, barely turns on the washing machine, says its broken beyond repair. Then says he can buy me a new one for the outrageous cost of $1,300. He mentioned 2 brands and the size of the washer but wouldn't tell me exactly which model. He promised to get it to my home by Monday but I had to write a check right away - he wouldn't take a credit card. Then, I got online and started making phone calls and learned that I could buy the brand and get it installed for $750. I made him leave my house. read more

I had a very BAD experience. I was a victim of bait and switch. The basic service charge is $89. The price went up to over $800+ to do a repair. After the 2nd up charge to $450 for a half fixed refrigerator I stopped him. He left my refrigerator worse than it was when he came and my pocket was $450 lighter. I ended up getting a new refrigerator. He is great at tearing your appliance apart and increasing the price. He will make the price well worth his trip. Proper description is "hustler". The service charge was "$95" for 15 min of no repair. He would install a new GE but I had to pay him first before installation, to a grand total of "$1195.00"! Pius has worked on our washer twice, on visits seven years apart. On the recent one, he came out the day I called and then returned the next morning to fix it. He gave us some trim parts at no charge to make the washer look better. A few days later he spent over an hour of his own time convincing me that a problem we were having was not related to the washer. Turns out he was right--a sump pump was blowing the fuse. Unlike 99% of repair appliance companies that do a service call for 50 or 60 bucks and waive the service call the man demanded 95 dollars for the service call for showing up that was non-refundable! So I was committed to him doing the work basically. He identified the problem with my dryer, and said it was 2 rollers, 200 dollars, but he must have only replaced one because he left the one in my basement trash can. He said each part cost 100 dollars each, and that seemed steep. He sweeped the dust from the inside, and said he usually charges 195 dollars, but was doing it for free since the machine was open! He took the entire appliance apart and while he as able to get the heating unit working again, I still purchased a new dryer (mine was 25 years old...it was time!) and had Pius put it in. We called Peaco to look at our broken stand alone ice maker that was approximately 2 years old. He promptly came out the next day - on a Sunday. (Only positive about this service was his responsiveness.) He first said the circuit board was bad and then he re plugged it in while explaining to me and magically it started working. Then he said it must be the pump. But before he even started, the pump was working- meaning water was being circulated over the chill plate. I'm convinced the pump was fine. He said to replace the pump would be $495, i thought that was steep but okay. He came back with the wrong pump. Then came back with correct one and replaced the pump and still not working. Now he said there is a freon leak and it would be $600 just to add freon but he could not guarantee that it would work very long because that would not repair the leak. compressor could be bad or some thing else. I researched the pump and the pump cost $90 and he charged $495 and I'm not convinced it was even broken in the first place. Ended up using another honest repair man who said your product is still under warranty, call kitchenaide directly to have them repair the leak. He did not recommend adding Freon given it is 2 yr old, He recommended repairing the leak. read more
