I have worked on cars since I was 14.. and am very picky about not only what gets fixed but how much. I no longer want to get dirty .. I suppose people change.. and they are the best place I have found! They tell you want is wrong, what needs fixed/replaced, and if there is something they see that is optional. They price fairly and treat you well.. going back in a couple days to get my AC recharged. Would recommend them to anybody who is looking for a good mechanic. read more

This is the worst place I have ever taken my car. Had to get a MO inspection so could not use the KS guys I usually use. Was told that 'something' didn't pass inspection and it would be $300 to fix, so I had someone look at it and fix it. When I took it back the owner yelled at me saying I did a sh!tty job and yelled that i was wasting his time and he won't be doing any more inspections. He threw my 'fail' receipt at me and literally shut the shop door on me. Do not go here. Especially if you are female, this guy is rude and a price gouger. AWFUL. read more

Rather than take my car to a Honda dealer, I decided to try Peak Performance. I had a heater issue with my 2013 Honda CR-V. Would not warm up the interior for the past 2 or 3 years; since last two or three winters were not severe, I got by with maybe 20% to 25% efficiency coming only from the passenger side. After talking to the owner, Ray, I decided to give them a try. Heater cores are very expensive to replace costing upwards of $1600 to maybe $2000! Lots of labor in removing dash to get to the heater core. Instead, Ray recommended to flush the system to remove built-up calcium, crud and lots of debris; it took 3 full flushes with the right chemicals to get it back to nearly 100% efficiency. It took two full days, but the result was worth it. And not at dealership prices! Since he is close to me, it's really convenient and I like supporting our local family owned businesses. I would certainly recommend Peak Performance for auto care and issues. read more

I took my car here and had brake work done a while back. Paid over $1000 and had to make a second trip after things had not been repaired the first time totaling about $1600. A little over a year later I had to have the exact same work done again. So after 3 trips to 2 different mechanics it is finally resolved. Many things done had to be replaced and same warning lights begin lighting up. Same parts used both times. The dealer would have actually charged less. read more

Went in for an oil change because my old mechanic retired and this had good reviews. It should not. Looking back at them now they appear to be written years ago and are generic so probably written by friends or something. Oil change was 20% higher than I've ever paid before. Then was shown my leaking suspension strut. Was quoted $900-$1,100 and told both had to be repaired at the same time though only one was leaking. They don't have to be repaired at the same time I found out. When I called another mechanic I trust he laughed at the quote and told me that was triple what it should cost. Then when I asked for the quote for the work to compare prices (a normal thing to do) the guy got super offended and wouldn't do it and acted like it was beyond courteous to even show me the issue in the first place. Don't come here unless you like being lied to and overpaying. read more

Fair, Transparent, Fast, and Convenient. I was in a pinch with my car going down without warning. I recently moved in the area so needed to find something close knowing I may be on my feet or busing it for a while. I found Peak Performance online and made the call. Ray was able to get me in the next morning. A couple hours of diagnostics lead to a phone call to me to give me the breakdown. Ray was clear on what they found, walked me through what everything would cost step by step and what HAD to be done now, and what could be done later. I was very appreciative of his transparency regarding this process. Needless to say I picked my car up today and is running like a champ. They're aren't over priced so I don't feel ripped off which is a really good feeling after having to pay for a car repair. I even did a little investigating to see if the parts I was being sold were the same price online and they were! I've used Ray (owner) as my primary mechanic for the 10 years I've lived in South Kansas City. His shop and waiting area are pristine, and -- more importantly -- he's a capable mechanic that personally inspects every vehicle that comes in his shop. He will advise rightly on what you do and don't need to do to keep your vehicle going as long as you want it to go. He's kind and humble man that I highly recommend. I do go to the drive-in oil change shops, and get my tires from discount tire shops which are cheaper than Ray, but I have Ray do just about everything else on my vehicles. He's done all major work (suspension, exhaust, radiator, and major maintenance intervals, along with trouble-shooting noises, smells, and smoke). You can trust him. read more

Charged for labor that was not completed. Could have gone to Toyota dealership for parts and labor for well less. Incomplete inspection paperwork given. Had to go back to Peak to have it filled out properly and back to DMV a second time. Very sad that this neighborhood shop can not be trusted for my business. read more

Feel like we got bamboozled by this place. We have had almost $1800 worth of services on my husbands jeep, three separate occasions for the same issue. Each time days to 2-3 weeks into it it quit running. Finally went back to our old mechanic, parts that were replace had loose connections. One part we were charged for, looks to be the old part. Plus we went back and specifically ask to have the connections looked at and tightened paid $100 to have it done 3 weeks later that is part of the problem. Never going back sticking with Larrys Auto on 85th street, should have never switched. read more

Ray is fantastic. He's kind, honest, and professional. I've seen his shop many times during my morning commute to work and when I began having trouble with my car starting, I looked his shop up and he had such good reviews that I chose to contact him. I emailed him, and he contacted me early Monday morning. This works really well for me as I typically have to be at work by 7:30 AM. He opens very early. I arrived at the shop later in the morning, and it was clean, well kept, and he remembered who I was and what I'd called about. We went out to my car, and I explained that I needed to get my car running again (there was some issue with the battery or electrical panel, and I don't know thing one about cars) because it was dying randomly and my husband had already tried working on it to no avail. I also needed to get my brakes worked on, and get a MO Safety Inspection - which i have no experience with as a prior Kansas resident. He assured me he would give my car a look over everywhere, and check out the electrical panel and battery especially well. He gave me estimates along the way that were incredibly affordable and fair. He personally drove me home so I didn't need to take the bus or wait hours for a ride - about a ten minute drive to my house. He stayed in touch with me that day, and I left my car overnight. He told me what I would need to have done to the car in the future, but did not push me to do it, he just informed me that it would be smart to have it done after this visit. He fixed my car, worked on my brakes, and did my MO safety inspection. The next day he offered to pick me up from my place of work - again, about 10 minutes from the shop, at rush hour - and brought me back to the shop so I could take my car home. There were no negatives to the experience whatsoever, and I say this with truth. Most of the time when I need to get my car worked on, there's a moment where I think "Oh no...I don't know what this person is talking about, but it's expensive and sounds important, I better do it." Not this time. He did tell me what I needed to have done, but he did what I could manage at the time and he did it for far less than I've been quoted before. He did it quickly and explained things well (like I said, I know not a thing about cars.) He was in contact with me the whole time my car was in the shop, anytime I had a question. He was extremely pleasant, professional, and friendly. I am so impressed after having poor experiences at many other auto shops and dealers. The experience was exactly what I was looking for. No fuss, he had it under control, and he was honest and extremely affordable. I couldn't be more pleased and I will be bringing my car back to him anytime it needs service.
