Took our sewing machine here on several occasions, and most times satisfied. However....on a few occasions after picking it up, something else went wrong again. This time around our sewing machine was sitting there for at least 2 months and the owner Ken continues to tell me he's brainstorming and looking for a part, or giving me excuses as to why it's not yet fixed. Disappointing!! Two months later when I call him, he claims he's unable to fix it. All this time, Ken promises me that he will call with an update, and never does. Excuses after excuses!! Appears to be a nice guy, but unfortunately "nice" didn't fix my sewing machine. In this case "NICE DID NOT COUNT!" **If I could give zero stars, I would! Negative star rating. Business run by a "snake oil salesman". We spent hundreds of dollars on repairs for Bernina sewing machines. Each time we were assured that the repairs were completed, but we ended up bringing the machines back multiple times. The last straw was bringing in a machine that was supposed to be under a repair warranty. The machine had been in the shop for 1-2 months. A follow up call ended with the guy telling us that he couldn't figure out what was wrong with the machine and that the foot pedal could be at fault. The issue with his comment is that he sold us that alleged problematic foot pedal previously. I strongly believe in supporting local businesses, but not Pearl City Vacuum Cleaners. read more

Well I'm not sure how their vacuum service rates as I can't seem to get in touch with this business. Nobody answers the phone! So I drove down to check during their OPEN hours and they are closed til 1/14/25. Well on the plus side, I see a small sign on their window saying they no longer service Dyson vacuums as of Jan 2022! As many yelpers have mentioned this place is very easy to miss. One great point of reference is the little security stall. It will be off to the left if you are coming from the main road. This shop is right next to a massage place. What I love about this place is that it is no frills, affordable, and just an honest kind man fixing vacuums. My vacuum plug was messed up so I brought it in and he fixed it right there in front of me and only cost $20. I recommend you bring cash or check as he does not accept credit or debit. I have been putting off servicing my sewing machine for years, trying to avoid the local dealer. Then a friend told me about Ken at Pearl City Vacuum Cleaner. In vast contrast to the dealer, he is personable, helpful, and thoughtful. I dropped my machine off right before he left on an announced vacation, but as promised, he called me as soon as he returned to tell me my machine was ready. He charged me less than the dealer and even carried the machine and loaded it into my trunk! In addition to all that, I brought it home and plugged it in, and the stitching is more even and beautiful than it has been in years! I took my Oreck Vacuum in for repair as the Oreck store is no longer open on Oahu. I told Ken the problem was my vacuum's brush no longer turned. He greeted me warmly saying if I had 5 minutes, he could fix it. And fix it he did for such a very nominal fee. Ken is not only a kind human being but a true professional you can rely on. I normally don't do reviews, but this would have helped me out.... My beloved Rainbow broke. And, I took it in for an estimate. He suggested his maintenance package, and it was understandably not cheap. I was clear that I wanted the repair estimate first before doing anything. I was told he would call me for estimate in one week. 10 days pass and no call. Except, the claim ticket I was given basically says if I don't claim my item in 30 days, I forfeit it. So, I call, make it clear a second time that I want the repair quote first, and am told I would get a call the next day. Instead, I get a call about week later saying it's repaired and maintenance is done. When, I asked why I hadn't gotten the estimate first, he offered to break it again. At which point I felt like my vacuum was now a hostage. I had no choice but to pay. I have been going to Pearl City Vacuum for over 5 years and continue doing so because I like the service I get and feel comfortable talking to owner. I have an old model Filter Queen vacuum and an Oreck upright and the gentleman (sorry I draw a blank remembering his name) always seem to repair my vacuums and has the parts to repair my old model vacuum in ample time. Was not able to use their services since they didn't have the accessory I needed. The person who answered the phone said that Shark accessories are difficult to come by and Shark makes it where you have to purchase straight from them. Problem is, Shark charges a ridiculous fee for shipping and handling because they charge an international fee of $25 to Hawaii?! International? Anywho, the person who answered the phone at Pearl City Vacuum directed me to where I may get what I needed and I so appreciate his customer service skills. A little -hole-in-the wall store that has been around for 40 years! There's refurbished vacuums here that are for sale. The repairman did a great job on my Dyson, changed the clutch which costs me $130 (paid with credit card). Woman at desk friendly and assisted me in putting my vacuum in my car. First, this shop is easy and yet difficult to find. It's so tiny and located to the left of the entrance to a line of warehouses that you might miss it driving into the complex. I brought my old Filter Queen Princess vacuum cleaner here all the way from town, because sometimes the machine would turn off when the cord was at a certain angle from the plug. I also didn't trust the shop in town for repairs anymore. Any appliance guy could have fixed it, I suppose, but I was also looking for an alternative Filter Queen repair shop where I might also find parts. And, importantly, I didn't want to get shammed again. A search on the computer brought me to Pearl City Vacuum Cleaners, a tiny hole-in-the-wall shop that is stuffed from top to bottom with all kinds of vacuum cleaners -- old and newer -- and parts. The shop looks like it could use a good vacuuming, itself. But, they probably have the part to an old model they don't make anymore. Ken, the owner, said it would take an hour without an appointment, since he had other customers before me. As I hung around, customers came in to pick up their repaired vacuum cleaners. Some of them were old, loyal customers from years back, judging from their conversation with Ken. Each one had such nice compliments to say to him. By the time Ken finished repairing my cord, I also had so much respect for him. He told me straight up that the plug was still good and not to wrap the cord around the hot vacuum cleaner when I shut it off. I had him replace the plug with a better one.
