My wife's sewing machine needed to be serviced. After reading the positive reviews, I decided to give Stanley's a chance. If you're familiar with Kāne'ohe, the location is super convenient and right by Nanko's and Enterprise. Easy parking. When I got there, I was greeted immediately and the staff/owner was super friendly. For a business, I didn't appreciate the politics on display, but the shop has the vibe of a mom and pop store which is cool. Machine was taken in, price was quoted, and an estimated time was given, 4-6 weeks. Cool. Fast forward toward the end of September. No phone call. No update. I called to check on things. They've been busy and backed up. The person on the phone offered to put a note on the machine, but I figured it wouldn't be that much longer. Then, again, called today since there was still no updates. Machine still wasn't looked at or serviced. Maybe 1-2 more weeks, meaning the machine would be there for just under two months, so I decided to just pick it up and take it elsewhere. Honestly, a phone call or update about where things were would have gone a long way. Everywhere else I've called have quoted a week to a day for the same price or cheaper. We are finally going with someone who can get it in done same day. What's unfortunate is that my wife is pregnant and she wanted to sew some things before our child was born. They have serviced my mom's sewing machines ever since I can remember. During the pandemic they were truly an essential services business as everyone was home under lockdown and required to have non surgical masks in the beginning. So every kupuna who had a machine was having it brought in for servicing. They also sell refurbished sewing machines and vacuums as well as rent carpet cleaning equipment. Friendly honest competent, sadly not a given anymore in business, so this is a very good review on behalf of them. read more

In search of a sewing machine on the Island of Oahu... Currently, sewing machines are sold out at all six Walmarts on the Island of Oahu at this time of COVID-19. My friend, Donna, suggested that i take a look at Stanley's which is in Kaneohe, Hawaii, near Windward Mall. I took a look this past weekend and parked in the free, potholed, shared parking lot. Stanley's is located next to Enterprise Rental Car and Nanko Fishing Supplies. Since it was Memorial Day weekend, the shop was closed. I peeked in the window and noticed how jam-packed the store was. There were many sewing machines covering the counters and floor! The shop was open on the Tuesday after Memorial Day. I waited for another customer to finish his transaction, then I spoke with the shop keeper. He's a pleasant, young man - and his name is NOT Stanley! LOL! I did not ask his name. He was so helpful in showing me the two available sewing machines for sale. One was in the shelf as a display, and the other was taken out of the box - brand new. I hadn't heard of this brand before and the price seemed a bit high. I passed on purchasing a sewing machine. Somehow, we got on the topic of elastic. The young man had some available. He showed me different widths of white elastic. I was interested in the 1/8 inch version. He said that he felt bad about selling it because it had been on the shelf for years. He couldn't guarantee the duration of the stretch, so, he gave me a couple of yards for free! I told him that my upcoming project was making 80 face masks for the Maryknoll teachers. I need 2 yards of elastic for 3 masks... you can do the math! Anyway, if I need any repairs on my machine, I know to come to Stanley's. The service is outstanding! read more

So, in April I dropped of my moms 25 year old Kenmore sewing machine lol. I was using it to make masks and of course it broke, or I broke it, who knows hahah. I searched online for places that would repair sewing machines. I found a handful but for something reason I picked this place! I'm so glad I did because they were able to service (oil and clean etc.) and fix it. I was in no rush so I picked it up a few weeks later when they called. When I initially dropped it off I walked in and oh my god, so many sewing machines everywhere from customers that all the sudden needed to be fixed haha (I'm talking so many they were on the floor and in every space you looked). So I wasn't shocked when they said it may be a while. I'm glad they're having good business right now at least. I think for a basic service and cleaning of a sewing machine it's around $109. When we took ours back home it ran so smooth and you could tell they oiled it well, it's like a new! I will definitely be back to support this shop. They also service vacuums, and sell threads and little stuff. I think you can also rent vacuums or carpet cleaners. It's family run and they are all very nice people. Thanks!! read more

Like everyone else, I dusted off my sewing machine and began sewing face masks at the start of the pandemic. Right after Christmas, I decided it was time to get a tuneup as the last one was done several decades ago. After checking reviews on Yelp, I decided to give Stanley's Sewing Machine a try. The reviews warned of many other machines waiting to be worked on, but I thought by January 2021, the backlog would be cleared. I was surprised that the photo of rows and rows of sewing machines I saw on Yelp had not changed when I got there. I was hoping I wouldn't have a long wait to get my machine back. After all, one of the reviews said she was told it would be one month but she got it back in two days. Would I be as lucky? To my disappointment, it did take a month. Even so, I was happy that my machine was humming when I went back to sewing. However, six months later, I started having problems with the foot control working intermittently. I assumed it was the foot control so I went online and purchased a new foot control. As it turned out, I was still having the same problem with the new foot control. I brought my machine back to Stanley's. The rows and rows of machines were gone and there were maybe a half dozen machines waiting their turn to be serviced. I was prepared for the worse. Pay big bucks to replace the motor and wait a couple of weeks to get it back. I was delighted to hear back the next day that the problem was solved. I just needed to have the brushes in the motor replaced. What a relief! My machine is happily humming again. Thank you, Stanley's! The drive on the H3 was worth it! read more

Excellent customer service, THANK YOU, Tyler! This morning I called to ask if they had Dyson DC14 vacuum filters available, they had one of them(bottom/purple) and possibly the other(top/yellow/with washable sponge) but wasn't certain if it would fit. I went in with my old (top) filter and the size was correct but the center piece jut out a bit. He told me I'd be able to remove the sponge and put it into my old filter if the piece doesn't fit. ANYWAY -- took it home and it fits fine, even with the center piece that juts out. I thought my vacuum was ready to be tossed away, but the new filters brought my vacuum back to life. Thank you Tyler and Stanley's Vacuum Center! $40 for two filters is better than $400 for a new vacuum...is that how much they are?? read more

I was ready to throw my aunts vacuum out and spend lots of money on a new one. Thankfully my friend referred me to this shop. I came in about 15 minutes before close but the young man was still happy to help me! He was so friendly and honest. He went over everything and was so patient. He showed me how to open my vacuum and gave me tips on how to clean it. I'm very embarrassed to say the vacuum smells terrible due to the state of my aunts home. I am grateful he did not mention it in a way that would embarrass me. The repair was also so affordable I was even more pleased. I have never had my sewing machine serviced so I knew I had to get it done ASAP. Looked through the reviews of several businesses and decided to go with Stanley's. I also selected this business because i wanted to support a local mom-and-pop store. They are the best! This is a very late review as I took my sewing machine to them right after Christmas. The estimated wait was 2 months. I'm sorry I never asked the name of the guy who helped me. He was very knowledgeable and even showed me where to clean so that i could do basic maintenance myself. He did explain that if there were no problems with my sewing machine that I might get it back sooner. Surprisingly they called back 2 days later saying that it was ready for pickup! Talk about quick service! I'm so happy I went with Stanley's. Their price is very reasonable compared with other businesses around the island (even cheaper than some, too.) Sewing is my hobby and my way to relax. I've had a Brother sewing machine that had never been serviced in all the years I owned it. Because of the increased usage since the pandemic began--I've been making lots of masks--I thought it might be wise to get it tuned up. So at the end of August, I took a drive over the mountains to Stanley's Sewing Machine and Vacuum Center. The staff is really friendly and welcoming. He let me know upfront that they were backlogged because of all the sewing going on during quarantine. I got a call earlier this week that my sewing machine was ready to go back home--so that was about two months turnaround time. Picked up my Brother machine and was told it runs great, only thing is it's a little squeaky--minor issue. Suggests changing parts if it really starts to bother me...they didn't want to do unnecessary repairs if it wasn't warranted, and I really appreciate that. Only thing I will add is don't expect them to open at 9am. It's more like 9:15-9:30ish. I'll definitely use their services in the future! read more

I tried to fix my sewing machine on my own by following YouTube. . The grandmas commenting on the YouTube video made it look so easy. That didn't end well and Tyler saved my machine! I brought my machine in to the shop completely dismantled. Seriously, screws of all different sizes out, pieces not fitting anywhere. It was a mess! He managed to fix it and put it back together with no judgement on me for what I did to the machine! In fact, he said that It was good that I had the opportunity to open the machine and see the workings of the machine and how the parts work together so if anything small happens I could probably feel comfortable fixing small problems! What a nice complement but the only thing I've probably learned, and the most important, is that if there is a problem with your machine, no matter how big or small, just call Tyler at Stanley's Sewing Machine and Vacuum Center!!! However, they were able to find a piece and repair my machine. Plus they cleaned it up and it works like new! I'm impressed they saved my vintage sewing machine and made it work better than ever! Amazing service!! I don't usually do reviews UNLESS I am REALLY happy about a place. I came in with my very old sewing machine, very frantic as I was on a major push/deadline to get things done. I walked in and Frank was awesome! He was friendly and definitely easy to talk to (during my bouts of hysteria). I saw there were many other machines also waiting to be serviced and I begged him (via a phone call after leaving my machine) to just see what's wrong and if it's fixable, great!... or if he opens a can of worms, to hold off and I'll come and get it and bring back at a later time and just deal with my issues I was having. He kept me calm with some humor over the phone and said he was going to take a look. They called me 30 min after their closing time. By this time I had already gone back home (in town) thinking I won't hear back til Tuesday (and though very stressed, I accepted it!). The person over the phone said it was fixed and ready to be picked up. I asked if she can stay open a little longer as I rush over the Likelike to get back there. She was very accommodating and said "yes, that's fine, we'll wait for you". When I got there, she was as friendly and helpful in person as she was over the phone. That all being said, the fact that they took the time, the same day, basically dropping everything for my frantic and stressed self, is HUGE in my book. Other shops have said, "I'm backed up 2 weeks" and left it at that, no if's, and's or but's. I'm very grateful and so so appreciative for all that Frank did for me today. I will definitely be back. Hopefully not too soon after his repair. But I will be back if I ever need my sewing machine fixed again. And without a doubt, recommend Stanley's to everyone I know. read more

I called & asked if they could replace my cord for my kirby vacuum & said I really need my vacuum today. I said I was coming from Waimanalo & she said they would wait for me. I got there & they had the replacement cord for my kirby & asked if I wanted it installed. I said no, thinking it was an additional fee but it was free so I said, "sure I'll wait." Took about five minutes. I was so happy. It cost $39 with installation. read more

I was going to rate them 2 stars but they did offer a discount due to a lengthy wait for the sewing machine to be serviced. We did not have the great service that most others received. Our sewing machine has been in the shop for a month after they told us it would take 1 week to repair, maybe a bit more due to a back log. It would have been nice to receive a courtesy phone call regarding the status of the repair, we called a few times. The first time the gentleman mentioned they were back logged, this was after more than 2 weeks. A week later I tried calling but the answering machine picked up . Not sure if the machine took messages. I called many days later and the gentleman said they had been back logged but they would work on my machine first. It was ready a few hours later. We really wanted to like this place as it is a small, locally owned business. Based on this experience I would not return but wish them luck, and that is with sincerity. I wish I had the customer service awesomeness that other Yelpers did. I have owned a small business myself and I understand how difficult work and scheduling can be. Keeping communication going is important. It's hard when the reviews are so amazing and you personally did not experience the same level of service. read more
