Osteria 081 was such a wonderful experience . We felt like we were back in Italy . We were greeted by two of the most handsome men our husbands even blushed ! We relaxed and took our time ordering choosing laughing and eating . All our meals were incredible, home made and perfectly seasoned . I tend to be an Italian food snob because I am Sicilian and I cook . We had stuffed zucchini blossoms to start they were delicious with marinara sauce . We shared Caesar salad and the beet salad with arugula and pistachios the flavors were tasty. My husband and my friend both ordered lasagna it was excellent lots of meat delicious sauce hot and tender pasta. I had the gnocchi with prawns it was so good and delicate, my friend's husband had the clams with spaghetti and he was very impressed . If you want to save on an airplane ticket we found a slice of Italy right here in Newbury Park. What an amazingly authentic Italian Ristorante. Osteria 081 is a 5 star plus dining experience. Armando greeted us upon entering this hidden gem and was our amazing and professional server assisted by Israel who was also a true professional. The service was stellar. We started with their amazing bread and bread sticks with quality olive oil. We a also ordered a bottle of Italian still spring water. Armando also took our order for wine as my wife had a glass of their Chardonnay and had a few glasses of the red blend which were perfectly balanced and flavorful. The ambiance is amazing with wonderful background music and a full view of the kitchen and staff creating masterpieces with Chef Miriam at the helm. We started with the eggplant appetizer which was nicely presented and beautifully prepared. The dish was spectacular. We also had two wonderful dishes with my wife ordering the spinach ravioli and I ordered the veal scalopini. The presentatIon of each dish was magnificent and the taste simply divine. Our compliments to Chef Miriam, Armando, Israel and the other staff members for sharing such delicacies and a dining experience to remember. We finished the evening with the chocolate torte ala mode and a cappuccino. Oh the taste of excellence and yes, a slice of Italy right here in Newbury Park, CA. This dining experience is at a level that leaves you wanting more. We will certainly be back. Absolutely hands down best Chilean Bass I have ever eaten. Bread was vg and tho it's a small restaurant located where you would never think to place it, was great for parking. They have 2 owners who are very hands on. Very romantic ambience - i would not take children who misbehave. We did and they broke things. Not my kids by the way. Menu is short but well selected. I personally was not a fan. I did enjoy the staff and the authentic Italian feel. However, there were lots of disappointments. I did enjoy the pear salad and tuna carpaccio. Those were both 4/5. The Chilean Seabass 3.5/5 was delicious, but there was nothing served with it and was lacking in that respect. They could've put some potatoes or rice with it. It's à la carte. It also took forever for the dish to come out. The mushroom pasta was terrible -5/5. Our dessert was incredibly dry and probably one of the worst desserts I've ever had -10/5. I know the restaurant is new and it may be worth checking them out at a later date. There are too many other good restaurants around, so not sure if I will revisit. Also, they need to do something about the sewer smell that comes from the bathroom if you're sitting close to that area. read more

My rating is within the context of higher-end "date night" restaurants. I'll start with the food. I think the spaghetti with clams was very good. It was in a simple shellfish-garlic reduction, and the spaghetti was clearly house made. We ordered the Chef salad to split. Divided, it was plenty for each of us. It had plenty of candied walnuts and grilled pear slices. It had a balsamic glaze around the edges... artistically presented. My H had the lasagna. He likes to get lasagna from every Italian restaurant we try. He enjoyed the toasty bolognese sauce it was made with, as well as the copious amounts of ricotta inside it. We thought the wine list could have used some lower priced bottles. We ordered an Italian Sauvignon Blanc for $67. It tasted great but I probably would have been happy with a New Zealand SB For half the cost. I don't have the same complaint about water as the other yelpers. We asked for regular "tap" water and received it with no resistance. I also can't complain about the bread. It's crusty on the outside. That's how Europeans make bread. They served olive oil at the table. I'd have appreciated some balsamic vinegar to go with it. We did not experience a "butter candle". I'm not sure what that was about, but they must have discontinued it. Their silverware is nice and heavy. I get annoyed when high-end restaurants expect me to use Smart & Final thin, cheesy utensils. The atmosphere and ambience... I can say, "loud". Not entirely because of the room -- it was definitely "live" and could have used some baffling -- but mostly inconsiderate, entitled patrons acting like they own the joint. There was a group of five in the back corner booth, whom I hope were worth it to the owners, because the service at many of the other tables was diminished by the attention of the owners and chef, being poured into that corner. The volume added insult to injury. I can gauge imposing loudness by how many times I must say, "What?" to the man with a perfectly clear speaking voice, sitting two feet away. I recall at least five "whats". The chef came out and yuck-yucked with the loud table for a good 20 minutes. I wondered if anybody got food during that time. Other yelpers complained about the seating. I thought the chairs were nice. The banquets were fine; a little low but nothing to make a big deal out of. It was odd, we had reservations but were not asked if we had reservations. Once seated, we sat there staring into space until an owner finally noticed we didn't have menus. The owners wait the tables. They were very courteous and upbeat. Maybe we will go back, but probably not on a regular basis. The bill was a little spendy for it to become a regular outing. For similar cost, we could consider Mastros or Sette Sorelle for a more diverse menu and non-preferential service, albeit the latter is just as noisy. read more

Went here tonight for the first time with another couple. We had the zucchini blossom as an appetizer, Caesar salad, beet salad lasagna, spaghetti with clams and gnocchi with shrimp. Overall, very good experience, the ambience is beautiful, but it wasn't crowded. I assume if it's crowded enough, it would be noisy as the place is relatively small. The service was very nice and attentive. The food itself was very good for the most part, the Bronzino was phenomenal 5/5. The sea bass was v good 4/5 but served solo , defiantly needed a side , the egg plant app is great , the Cesar salad was my least favorite 2.5/5. The wine is over priced and I did not appreciate the sneaky 3.5% charge for using credit card for a restaurant that is not cheap! read more

Mom's night out tonight at Osteria 081 was a pleasant and delectable surprise in Newbury Park. The atmosphere and service were top notch, as was the wine. And the food was delicious. We started with melon prosciutto and Caesar salad. Followed by spinach ravioli, porcini pasta, and two specials (porcini ravioli and lemon pasta). We came for my husband's birthday. Special occasion so we ordered a lot for the two of us. Everything was exquisite from greeting us to bringing our food. Attention to detail was superb. My sea bass melted in my mouth. Hubby's shrimp pasta was delish. His bday tiramisu was unique, owner said they use real Italian marscapone. We tried this restaurant tonight and it didn't disappoint! The service was great. The owner was super friendly who took our order. We had the special appetizer of prosciutto with melon, which was amazing. I had the spaghetti and clams which was super tasty and my husband had the risotto with seafood. The only thing I would say is it needed a bit more risotto, but had a large amount of seafood. The place has a great energy. It is a bit noisy but other than than that the perfect evening! Went here for dinner tonight, mostly based upon the positive reviews. Our group of 4 had a reservation and we were seated promptly. Saw the motorcycle parked in front of the restaurant taking up two prime parking spots. Not sure what they're going for here, but it's missing the mark. On the positive side, the service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Our group ordered four different pasta meals, all were below expectations. I had the lasagna, which was the best tasting dish at the table. However, the portion was 3" x 3" which is pretty small for dinner. My wife had a pesto dish that was undercooked and tough. The other two meals were "underwhelming " with muted flavors and again improperly cooked pasta. Nobody in our group enjoyed the experience and were not inspired to consider coming back again. read more

The owners met our party of 4 just inside the door and are delightful young Italian men. We were seated immediately in a very stylish and comfortable booth. Fresh baked bread and fine olive oil was promptly delivered to our table and drink orders taken. There were so many delicious dishes offered on the menu, it was hard to decide! We ordered a Caesar and a House salad with roasted pear and aged balsamic dressing, both so very good! Our mains were an unforgettable pesto dish and the paper wrapped Chilean Sea Bass. The most fantastic fish I have ever tasted! It was baked with olives, cherry tomatoes, capers, then perfectly oiled & seasoned in front of our eyes. Such a special presentation! This new Italian restaurant checked all of the boxes It was my first time there. Friendly staff, comfortable and nice atmosphere, and the food was authentic. My group of four tried a variety of menu items. The tomato caprese appetizer was very fresh and flavorful. The spicnach ravioli and ragu pastas scored high marks The orange salmon was really good, and lastly you definitely have to try the dark chocolate Almond torte. It was great and not overly sweet. Went there for the second visit tonight. First visit was on their opening night which had a few challenges. Tonight they asked if we wanted tap, still or sparkling water (the first night tap wasn't mentioned). I chose sparkling tonight because I prefer that and am fine with the price. They served some delicious I don't know what little bite from the kitchen -- sauce was a creamy almost Alfredo. But I swear I have no clue what the square was but it was tasty. The bread was MUCH better this visit. Bread sticks were eh but not covered in sesame seeds like last time, so overall an improvement. We shared the meatballs --- very tender and super tasty. Amazing marinara... the burrata salad with heirloom tomatoes was delish. I had the minestrone for the second time. It was delicious- but not like a traditional minestrone - no pasta, no tomatoes, but just a light delicious soup with a bunch of veggies. Although I think the last time it had a few tomatoes in it. One of my favorite things they make. We also had the mushroom pappardelle. It was good with lots of porcini mushrooms but I feel it could benefit from some butter and maybe some portobellos and maybe shorter noodles- but I get that they've made it the Italian way (no butter). Pasta-wise, I preferred the lasagna from my last visit. All of their pastas (except spaghetti and penne) are handmade and tender. I'll try another type next time - wasn't hungry enough to share two pasta dishes tonight. Dessert was their amazing tiramisu. It's a must-try in my view. Oh and my daughter had a glass of wine (super Tuscan? It's an Italian red blend. See photo) that was delish. We recommended it to a wine loving friend as soon as we left. Service was freaking AMAZING. On a scale of 1-10, it was a 12-13. I am shocked that anyone has had crummy service. They are super attentive. I wish Armando and Francesco much luck. Had a great dining experience at new restaurant. Ambience was very nice and really liked the decor of the restaurant. Seats were comfortably cushioned not only in the booth, but also at the tables. Service was great. Especially, for a new restaurant just starting out. And finally, the food. Really enjoyed every dish I ordered. My favorites were the Carpaccio. Absolutely charming authentic Italian restaurant. A friend and I made reservations for Saturday night. We were seated promptly. The restaurant is light and beautiful. I really loved the open concept kitchen where you can watch your food being prepared. The caprese starter was fresh and delicious. We each ordered the paparedelle with mushrooms. It was simple, fresh and well executed. The noodles were homemade and can melt in your mouth. The owners Francesco and Armando took excellent care of us. They poured us a delicious sparkling rose. Went to dinner here with my Fiancé and some friends on Friday evening. Both the food and the service were outstanding! The restaurant has a modern but still very comfortable ambiance. The open window view of the kitchen gives it a very authentic feel. Certainly a great place for a date night or a family outing. I had the New York steak (rare) as I like to order, and it was beyond delicious! Melt in mouth texture with delicious flavor! I also ordered a garden salad which had pears, and a homemade balsamic dressing! As tasty as the steak was the salad was a close second because of the dressing. What a delight! Went here for the first time on the recommendation of friends we were meeting. Small space, but beautifully decorated. Service was attentive, knowledgeable, engaging and authentic. Our order included a complimentary amuse bouche, plus a beautifully presented burrata and heirloom tomato appetizer, super earthy mushroom paparadelle, seafood risotto and expertly presented table-side branzino. All food was fresh, well prepared and delicious. Our delightful server even presented a small glass of port after dessert, free. You feel like you're right there in Naples.
