Cute bar but ridiculous cover charges for music. Should do. A drink minimum instead of price gouging

Not sure the owner of this establishment thinks they are. It's cute with a nice patio. Cute meaning the patio otherwise the interior is what I'd say a step above dive bar. Went in last night to check it out and there was a shitty dj spinning to about 10 people. When the waiter approached us, we were informed there would be a 5/person fee for the "live dj". We lol and I thought GFY. Your drinks are mediocre at best (went one other time and had a similar experience but it was a live band). The place is in Monterey not the city and the talent and blah at best. Save your money and check out the speak easy around the corner. Dim lighting and poor practices here. read more

This is my favorite bar in Monterey. Live jazz every Sunday. A calm, dark, candlelit atmosphere serving top shelf cocktails with knowledge staff. The back patio is such a perfect space to relax and lounge with a small group of friends. This is a cash only joint, so plan ahead if you don't want to use the ATM in the corner. I look forward to continuing my patronage of this incredible space for years to come. read more

Really charming cocktail bar in an open air space. Hey have specialty cocktails and a large list of standard cocktails. Their specialty cocktails are unique,, but not overly complex to the point it doesn't make sense. There was a single host and server when we were there, and she made time for everyone. Tasty cocktails for sure. There was a jazz band playing the other night that was so tite. The mood was dope overall, super recommend.

TLDR Wonderful, cute little place with great cocktails, great service, great vibe. Made my trip to Monterey better :) Pros: The staff was knowledgable about the menu and gave us wonderful recommendations. The vibe was amazing. It was a pretty intimate setting despite it being outside. Quiet enough to talk to a friend but not so quiet that it was awkward to do so. I personally loved the rose decorations at each table and the moon patterned tabletops. I thought it was a lovely touch. Being COVID conscious, I also appreciated that their tables were distanced enough. I had ordered their It Was All But A Dream, and their monthly drink (I don't remember what it was called, but it was served in a cute teacup and saucer) and also snacked on salted zesty olives. I usually don't even like olives, but these were a tasty snack while enjoying cocktails. The cocktails themselves tasted great and served in cute glassware with cute garnishes. I didn't get to go inside, but there were bathrooms accessible from the outside which were kept clean. Just nice little touches that really made me like the place even more. Cons: The only downside was that during COVID, all seating was outside. There was one fire pit, and since we didn't happen to be seated near it, it becamee colder as it grew later. read more

Great drinks but the vibe that started out awesome gets weird after the DJ starts rapping. Only one other couple was here when we arrived and the young lady was so wasted that when she stood up, she immediately fell over knocking the table, drinks and her stuff over. Her man was in the restroom so I yelled for help and got her up to her feet. She could barely speak let alone walk so I held her up until her man came out. Once that was complete we sat down and ordered drinks. VERY good, well poured and my wife enjoyed several botanical style flavors of beverages. I stuck to Old Fashioned's which were spectacular. However, when I ordered my fourth in 2.5 hours, Mars, our server stated "for your safety, I have to ask if you're okay". I couldn't help but think of the 5'5" 100lb chick I just picked up off the floor 2.5 hours ago; but responded, yes Mars, my 6' 280lb ass can handle another one. Still a great place regardless just some quirks I guess. One thing I did find off-putting is the fact we had to pay a "cover charge" for a DJ that showed up after we were already there. This bar was off to such a strong start before Covid, and they've managed to not only survive thus far, but create one of the better experiences in town and improve their back patio. They have a delivery service, an awesome little coffee shop (now the only one around for those of us in the neighborhood), and dining/having a few drinks on the back patio has been great. Timing has been rough, since they were just starting to take-off when shelter-in-place came about, but they have absolutely made the most of it. Have some drinks (and food) here, you won't regret it. So I came to Monterey this past weekend for my 32nd birthday. I was looking for a place with good drinks and a cool vibe that wasn't a usual gimmicky dive bar. I found this place on Yelp and looked thru the menu and pictures and I thought it was perfect (my fault for not reading the reviews.) My friend and I arrived and made our way to the bar. We tried to signal a bartender down and make eye contact. We happened to get lucky and a bartender looked our way, but to unfortunately look the other way and help someone who had arrived way after us. It seemed like they only helped a certain demographic of customers. And I definitely was not in that category. So we waited a little longer. An Asian man came out from behind the bar to help other people that arrived after us. Mind you he definitely seen that we were patiently waiting for help, or just to be at the very least acknowledged and say "I'll be right with you". I work as a server in the hospitality industry and I can say I definitely felt profiled and discriminated against. The sad part is I wanted to spend money there and have a good time but the nasty mean girl vibes and judgement I received staff and customers was very disrespectful and disgusting considering your bar is trying to sell the idea of equality. I didn't feel that at all. I'll just be the first to say if your a POC do not come here. Save yourself the irritation. 0 stars and do better! To Co Owner Katie, Let me start of by letting you know several violations that your establishment has I walk in with a friend there was no bouncer at the front door checking IDs and informing your customer about the cover fee. I walk in with my friend and I was not carded at any point or ask for an ID upon our entrance we do look under the age of 40. This is very dangerous as you can lose your alcohol license or get it suspended while an investigation is being held. I do plan to let the local authorities know about this for the safety and concern of the public as I am sure this establishment is serving under age minors. I wanted to have a drink at the bar and Katie you with an attitude and rolling your eyes racial profile my friend and I and directed us to go to the back to order drinks. My friend and I had 2 cocktails and one of the drinks was a coffee. When we got our bill it was shocking that we were charged for a cover charge at no point was there a bouncer outside informing customers about your cover fees, you were clearly at the bar Katie you failed to card us when we enter and inform us that there was a cover even your waitress fail to inform us about the cover and if we were in agreement with the charge. There is no where posted about a cover fees by law in order to enforce a charge of cover it must be posted or you have to inform your customers beforehand!! Big violation of illegal charges and I want my cover charges to be refunded and I plan to dispute this cover charge with my bank. Then, as we left we had a shot at the bar. Then, we ask for one last final shot and we wanted to close the tab. Katie you profile my friend and I cut us and told us to drink a glass of water which we comply with. Then, we ask for the last shot you said no both of you are done good bye. I think you should retake the bartender ABC class we had a designed driver, we were able to walk we were not falling down, we were not cussing or screaming or disturbing an guests. You are a very discriminating co owner. My advice to everyone do not go there spend your money somewhere you are not discriminated and treated with CLASS. I have NEVER in my life experience a rude co owner usually co owners tend to be really nice people and they want to please their customers to have return business this co owner has no CLASS!!! I noticed, went back to you made a what it seemed to me a scene, When you came back, your whole demeanor overpowered me, you asked us before serving us another drink, we where to drink water, which we did drink the water than you came back again you seemed annoyed, raised your voice engaged with me by even at one point questioned me even said and assumed I was driving, thank you for your concern, I said I had driver waiting for us. Was accused of stealing an abalone shell after coming here multiple times and always tipping well no matter what the wait for a drink was.

My fiancee and I came to Pearl Hour for happy hour and to enjoy a pop up restaurant they were hosting for Chez Noir. We came early and got a seat right up against the big fire pit in the back. This allowed us to stay warm all night. The cocktails were great, the food was tasty, and the live music made for a great atmosphere. Definetly come hang out here if you're in Monterey! read more

I absolutely love this bar! The owner is amazing, the staff has always been welcoming and such great people to talk to. They recognized me and remembered my name so quickly, I think by my second visit- And my name is a nightmare! I'm lucky I live close by, and I get to stop in sometimes after work and the vibe is always chill and relaxing. They have a great garden and they use a lot of their plants in their cocktails and tinctures. The selection of cocktails is off the hook! They also now serve food, And they have a coffee bar in the mornings. my coworker is sweet enough to pick up croissants in the morning to bring to us at work. They were busy so service was a little slow. My server was kind, cordial, and apologetic but the music and the vibe helped to put me at ease. As things open up I've learned NOT to go too hungry or thirsty to places. These are small businesses doing the best that they can during sucky times. With that said - I enjoyed my time here and I came alone so there was Noone to distract me. I would love to come back and bring my sweetheart to this quaint little spot under the stars. I had two well crafted martinis and I ended my experience with a really soothing herbal tea. I never looked at the menu as I came looking for what I wanted, and that's what I got. Katie, the minute I walked with my friend you gave me such nasty look, I remember walking in and walking to the bar since it was my first time, I asked if I could order a drink, that moment, you replied "go to the back grab a sit we have a menu" I immediately did not feel welcome. I ended my night by you asking me to leave after my one shot of tequila at the bar 2 drinks and a espresso, a 20 cover fee, a 130 tab. While at the bar, you asked me to drink water other wise you would not serve me a drink, I was offended since I had only 1 drink my fried on the other hand had 2 and the shoot of tequila of course. You you're rude and disrespectful and to Lorenzo, you walked away and you and you and your boss, Business owner Katie, so sad saw both of you talking making gestures made such scene, to make your point, made me feel so uncomfortable by questioning me to a point to engage by saying " so you're her designated driver" to which I replied, no I have driver waiting for me.
