Saigon pancake was amazing! I would come back just for that. We had all appetizers for a light lunch. Pot stickers were very crunchy and had a ton of ginger. Arrived at 8pm Saturday evening, closes at 9pm (I believe). Food was good, service was marginal - server made us feel rushed. She didn't have much interest to explain the menu. She kept leaning away as if she needed to be somewhere else. Ambiance was poor. By 8:30pm we were the only couple in the restaurant - they started clanking the chairs onto the tables to begin closing. There we only a couple tables including ours that didn't get shut down. We had barely gotten through half of our meal and were feeling very rushed to be on our way. This was a very distracting experience. As we were leaving, we crossed paths with a person who identified themselves as a Manager/Owner. I brought this issue up as constructive criticism and he stated that he has told his staff in the past to wait to put up the chairs until guests are through eating. Pearl of Canton is new to the West Bend scene having just opened on Valentine's Day. Keeping in mind the restaurant is in its beginning days my star rating is based on the food and the building. I'll defer judgment on service until they have a little time to acclimate to being part of the local scene. Pearl of Canton offers sushi, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese pho. A little something for everyone. We ordered several sushi offerings and beef lo-mein. The food was well prepared and was very good. The beef was tender and the different sushi rolls had just the right touch of kick. We ordered a pork steamed dumpling appetizer, but never received it, so no comment there. The building housing the restaurant has been completely remodeled. It is very spacious and well decorated. The restaurant size and style is something you'd expect to feel in a much larger metro community. A great downtown location where a person can take a stroll after dinner. Pearl of Canton has the potential to be a great addition to the West Bend community with the ability to draw in a much larger dining audience from outside the area. (Bear in mind they are new. They have some youthful waitresses, some of which are likely in their first job and maybe their first experience with food from another culture. The owner seemed to be scrambling a bit just to keep her young help on track.) Being new I forgive the service, especially because the food we did receive was quite good. Ordered the Lo Mein Mi LoMein Xao for $18.00 via Door Dash. The paper bag was dark with grease. The container, with tofu, was greased up and the lo mein had to be drained of 1/4 cup grease. There was no taste from any of the mixture (grease!) besides the two packets of soy sauce included. Never again. read more

Finally West Bend has some really delicious Asian food. And in such an elegant location. Downtown, right where you want to have a nice, delicious dinner. The interior was gorgeous. It made you want to stay, relax, have a drink, and tuck in to some good food. The menu had a lot of variety of what you might want. Though it seems to be Vietnamese owned, and there were lots of choices in that area, they also had some Chinese and Japanese dishes too, so you can enjoy different items every time you go back. Oh man. We have ordered from here 3 maybe 4 times. Normally it's decent food! We don't expect much but tonight was unfortunately just awful. The Pad Thai was both flavorless And unnecessarily spicy. (Pad Thai is not typically spicy unless you specify chilis or extra spice to be added, which we did not). It also was so dry and rubbery, like it had been sitting out all day. The fried rice was just white rice with some brown sauce sort of tie-dyed through it, not fully incorporated or flavorful. We ended up throwing all of it in the trash since I am allergic to chili's and didn't want to have a reaction. Hopefully it was just an off-night. So bummed and still quite hungry. :( read more

When ordering, I requested medium spice on the chicken and broccoli and the man on the phone said the spice came on the side so we could add more. The only thing we received was soy sauce and this is a condiment and not a spice. Upon picking up our order, the girl at the desk had no clue and couldn't find our order. After waiting, she finally found our order but made no apologies. The entrees were very good but the egg rolls were terrible and we had to toss them. The cold rain kept us from going to the local zoo so we decided to stop in town for a bite to eat. For our appetizer we enjoyed the fried egg rolls and potstickers. Both were excellent and my children loved them. We ordered the combination fried rice, chicken lo mein, beef and broccoli, pho, grilled beef vermicelli and the Pearl of Canton sushi roll. My favorite and standard meal here starts with a beer and the potstickers appetizer (Item A8 on the menu). I keep the potsticker dipping sauce to enjoy with my entree, the boneless pork (C2) with extra meat and egg. The flavor is similar to the BBQ pork chops, my husband's favorite. Delicious!! My wife and I were craving noodles and found this place. The Pho was light but filling and full of flavor. Their crab Rangoon and egg rolls were crunchy but not greasy. We also got a Vietnamese noodle dish that was outrageously good. But, the best thing we ordered was their Bahn Mi. Holy cow. It was so good. We got this food two days ago and we're considering ordering one of each of their Bahn Mis for dinner tonight. We even got all of this for takeout and the quality was still high. Our table kept teetering which was a bit annoying. The staff was all very friendly. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. We had wonderful appetizers. We had shrimp spring rolls, crab rangoon and pot stickers. All were delicious. My daughter in law and I both ordered the Beef,Chicken and Shrimp fried rice. We both found it very bland though. Usually fried rice is very flavorful without adding soy sauce. This definitely needed soy sauce and could of used scallions. We enjoyed the fried rice but it just was missing something. My son had the mongolian chicken. He thoroughly enjoyed it. The portion sizes of food were good. The food came out quickly. The waitress gave me a free Birthday dessert which was very good. They have great food and typically great service. Tonight I ordered online, came to pickup the food. The Chinese food was sitting in a bag and ready to go, the sushi took an additional 30 minutes to make. So the Chinese food was cooked way in advance and by the time I got it home the Chinese food was sticky and cold. Sushi was fine. Not coming back for a long while. $75 for a meal of cold food. I was hopeful about Pearl of Canton because the reviews were so great, but I left super disappointed. Good things first - the restaurant space itself is nice and the staff was friendly. But, sadly, my friend and I both left our entire meal on our plates because it was just wasn't good. She ordered sesame chicken that she said tasted like a strange twist on sweet and sour and she also commented that the meat was chewy. I ordered the yellow curry with tofu. I hadn't met a curry I didn't like until this one. Curry is my go-to, but I didn't take more than three bites of this one. I want this restaurant to succeed because West Bend needs places like this and I can tell they are sincerely trying. I hope they were just having an off day. read more

Walked in, no one at the door, all wait staff in back corner talking. Someone sat behind the speaker, behind counter, probably on a computer, never moved. Owners should greet their customers and welcome them. It's your place of business, you are not busy, get up and be in front. Took 5 minutes for someone to come and say hello, or someone will be with you. Sat down, they turned on music speaker aimed at us too loudly, had to turn my hearing aids down. Food was ok, too much sauce in it, came to the table still rolling, broiling hot. Fried rice ok, not flavorful enough. Had to doctor it up with more sauces. I realize that downtown area is torn up, that's when you have to be extra vigilant to your customers, to make them want to return. all, in all we enjoyed being there as a family. This place is one of West Bend's best kept secrets. The first impression that you get when walking up to the Pearl of Canton is that it is huge. When you walk in you see the spaciousness and the huge illuminated bar. This place is more beautiful than any place you would find in Milwaukee. The decor is modern but definitely Asian. You might feel underdressed when you enter but they accept casual dress. My husband and I had the pork dumplings appetizer. They were delicious. My husband and I were disappointed in the Chicken Curry. If this was meant to be a Thai or Indian dish it missed the mark. The curry flavor was weak. I had the Singapore noodles and it was delicious. Our server was attentive. The menu is varied. Next time we go I want to try one of their interesting looking rice dishes. I also want to try one of their flavored teas, or a bubble tea or a smoothie.
