We went here on Valentine's Day as I was looking for a supper club-esque place neither of us had been to. The exterior was beautiful wooden and secluded. We had to wait a moment for our table, but got a spot at the bar for two very affordable drinks (a dirty martini for me, an old fashioned for him). The service was great and the meal was to die for. We had steak and seafood with a wedge salad to start and it was so fresh and delicious. I'm happy I researched and stumbled upon this establishment. read more

Haven't been here for a while. The place had the weathered look from a western town. Lots of dark finished, and vintage lighting. There are two levels, with bar and dining downstairs, with more seating upstairs. It's dark inside. Had 6:00 reservations on a Wednesday night, and got right in. Our server got us set up with menu, and drinks right away. We ordered a couple of appetizers including the meatballs, and a sampler plate with fried mushrooms, duck strips, chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks. Our entrees included the filet, rib steak, bbq ribs, scampi, and french dip. The appetizers were okay. Not a fan of all the heavily fried items. The meatballs were tasty and probably the best of the items. (although the presentation was not very appetizing). We also got served warm bread sticks, and honestly I love warm bread but they seemed over warmed and tough. I did not finish mine. My Lobster was very good. The other parts of the meal were subpar. The salad seemed whilty and the vegetable medley was over cooked and flavorless. Tried some of the items. The filet, and rib steak were both excellent. The bbq ribs were okay, but a little overcooked (i like to have a little chew). They stopped over with the dessert tray and were very persuasive. Did save a little room for the Peanut Butter Brownie Torte. That was very good. The evening was kind of mixed bag. The service was spotty and some of the food items were not remarkable. If I went back I would skip the appetizers and just focus on the steak and lobster choices. The prices are reasonable, so perhaps its a good value for some customers. read more

This place is truly in the middle of nowhere but worth the drive. We looooved the potato crusted cheese curds and homemade ranch. The ribeye was SO good - 30oz was on special. The parking here is horrible so if you are handicap I would advise eating here early ! We got here at 545 pm on a Friday night and we couldn't find a place to park. We walked inside and checked in for our reservation. We sat at the bar and had a drink. The bartender working Friday night WAS VERY EASY ON THE EYES ! lol. After our first drink we were seated at a table right by the window. Our waitress was funny and was prompt getting us drinks. We ordered cheese curds and mozzarella sticks. Cheese curds were okay but mozzarella sticks were so good. I ordered the salmon with salsa it was okay. The ribs were fall off the bone. The seafood trio was good but a small portion size. We had heard about Jailhouse from a relative in the area. Stopped by on a Saturday evening as they were opening. Thankfully they were able to seat us. They filled up quickly and there was quite the crowd when we left. Service was fast and spot on, Thanks Adam! The meatballs apps were good. The main courses (seafood trio and seafood scampi) were delicious and plenty of food! But the desserts- oh my . The blueberry cheesecake is amazingly decadent! Prices are very reasonable. This is truly a "Supper Club", an old log cabin farmhouse/building with cute homestyle decor. A bit dark to read the menus, but that's my only drawback. I highly recommend! read more

Our family went to The Jailhouse in Jackson, WI last night to celebrate my in-laws' 40th wedding anniversary. We've always been big fans of The Jailhouse and have enjoyed the food for years, so we were really looking forward to it. When we made our reservation 2-3 weeks ago, we specifically requested to be seated upstairs in the back since there were 10 of us. We were told that should be fine, but when we arrived, we were seated downstairs. If you've been there, you know the downstairs area is quite small -- our table was pushed up against the wall, so anytime someone needed to get up, the entire side of four people had to move. It wasn't ideal, especially for a special occasion. We had two waitresses. The younger one was very friendly and helpful -- we appreciated her service! Unfortunately, the older waitress was quite the opposite. She seemed annoyed and uninterested from the start. At one point, she made a comment about one of our kids saying, "Whose kid is that? She's very demanding," after an 8-year-old asked for ketchup and mayo. It might have been meant as a joke, but it came across as rude. Later, she spilled a full glass of water on my mother-in-law and simply said, "It's only water," without apologizing or helping clean it up. We ended up cleaning it ourselves. When dessert came, she missed one person and seemed in a hurry to clear the tray. At the end of the evening, she handed my mother-in-law a $10 coupon as an apology, but honestly, a sincere "I'm sorry" and a little help in the moment would have gone a long way. The food was excellent as always -- that's one thing The Jailhouse consistently does well -- but the service from one of the waitresses really dampened what should have been a special celebration. read more

First time visit on a Fish Fry Friday found the parking lot completely full. once inside we put our name in for a party of four. The bar was full although the bartender was doing a fantastic job of serving and our drink order was quickly filled. Once seated our friendly server was prompt in getting our order in although the wait for food was much longer than we expected. The fish fry was very tasty and worth the wait. On the recommendation of a Golf buddy, we tried the Jail House in Jackson. What a pleasant surprise. Middle of nowhere. Outside looks like you could hitch your Horse to the post in front. Got there at 5ish. Already filling up. 10 minute wait and we were seated upstairs. Much quieter. Nice room. Our server was Kennedy-great job. I had ribs, wife had fish fry sampler. Both very good. Then Kennedy brings out the wagon wheel size dessert tray. Wow. Enjoyed it and will go back. Started the night with a Honey Old Fashion...pretty good too. The Jail House is a gem in the middle of the country. Very country log cabin, warm, cozy ambiance that serves steak and seafood. We had a reservation but waited with a Brandy Old fashioned at the bar until ready. Our table was on the smaller lower level, which was very accessible for all patrons not having to climb stairs. The duck soup was highly recommended, and it didn't disappoint. It was hot, fresh, creamy, and thick. Soups were served with piping hot bread sticks with regular & common butter. We kindly asked for a few more as they were absolutely delicious. Next, we received our main entrees, mostly steaks. The steak was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. I enjoyed a side of the garlic mashed potatoes, which are a blend of potato and cauliflower and very tasty. The lobster macaroni and cheese had fresh peppers, onions, and chunks of crab on top. There was a little disappointment the 2 Birthday people weren't recognized with a song, free drink, or complimentary dessert. 5 people with a tab over $300 seems like they could do something to make the event special. The Cowboy Steak is a very thin cut, so expect it to be overcooked. My husband ordered medium rare and got medium well done. Steak fries were cold like they'd been sitting around. We did inform our server but it's not his fault, right? I ordered the Seafood Scampi. There was no butter, no garlic, no wine or broth (of any kind), no lemon, no good. I'd be happy to forward a scampi recipe to you, since you obviously lost yours. It used to be excellent. The seafood was just okay but I sent back all the pasta because it was so starchy, it was gross. No, I dont want a box to take it home. Pasta is my favorite food in the world and I sent back all of it. We kept going back (we've been going there since 2017), hoping maybe it was a turnover in cooks or meat suppliers. I have been to this restaurant 3 times. I had 3 different entrees, each one was cooked to perfection and tasted absolutely amazing. The deserts are huge portions and are incredible !! Service was 100% spot on !! I have stopped just for a quick drink and the bar staff is great, they made perfect drinks. Some people would consider this place pricey but honestly is not. Considering the portion sizes, amazing food & huge portions, it's a great value for your money. I would highly recommend Jail house. Fried chicken was AWESOME ... hot, crisp, juicy and the perfect amount of salt and seasoning. Do save room for desert!!! Delicious! They're made in-house (you can tell) and the portions are large ... I highly recommend the carrot cake ... one of, if not THE best I've had in years. Overall, it was a good dining experience, but The Jail House had a couple misses. The cream of duck soup had a very good flavor, but arrived just a touch above lukewarm. I also would have liked at least some duck meat in the soup. From the moment we entered through to our leaving we felt the warmth and hospitality of the entire staff. Being in a building from the mid-1800's is an experience. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. Our server, Ari, was an absolute delight. The birthday dessert was quite sparkling with a mini-Roman candle--quite unexpected. So a little history on this place...the building actually served as the jail for Washington County at some point-hence the name The Jail House Restaurant. I thought it was kind of a cool fact, but really couldn't confirm this was the case looking at their website. So my boyfriend wanted to surprise me and take me someplace different for my birthday and surprise me he did! This place is literally out in the middle of nowhere! I'm not necessarily hating based on the location, but I did think it was unusual when we drove past farm fields for 30 minutes before arriving. So when we did get there, we found the place was packed with a lengthy 45 minute wait. My boyfriend had attempted to make reservations earlier but they do not accept anything for a party less than five...unsure of if this a weekend thing or all the time? The bar area was pretty busy so we had to stand sipping our drinks and constantly apologizing as everyone seemed to be trying to get through to go from here to there. Didn't really mind the 45 minute wait, but do want to mention the 2 rounds of drinks we ordered while waiting. The first round my boyfriend ordered(an old fashion and a dirty martini-with rail because I guess he didn't think to specify)..total came to $16 for him. The second round of drinks I was able to catch the bartender's attention first so I ordered; same two drinks except I specified my dirty martini with Grey Goose...total came to $14. I don't think either of us would have noticed, except I mentioned how cheap the drinks were! Maybe it was a mistake, maybe they were just really busy, maybe the bartender was trying to be nice..who knows, but I just thought I'd mention the prices didn't seem to be consistent. My first martini tasted like straight up olive juice, thank goodness I like stuff salty or I wouldn't have been able to stomach it. The second martini was perfectly on point, no complaints. My boyfriend said both old fashions were good(he's kind of a snob and only orders them when he knows it'll be made correctly) I thought the dining room was cute with candle lit tables and a cool rustic look if you're into that kind of thing-I am. I thought the food was pretty good and priced accordingly. I ordered the New York Strip and my boyfriend had the Sante Fe Chicken. My steak was cooked a perfect medium well(PROPS on a busy Friday night!!), but I was a little sad they didn't have a seafood add on like some steak places(i.e. béarnaise, Oscar style..). They did however offer a melted bleu cheese, blacked, or brown sugar rub...none of which I was adventurous enough to try. We both ordered their "fries" although they do offer several potato options and a mashed cauliflower side if you're looking for something less starchy. I thought their steak fries were really unique and tasted great! The potatoes cut in a thick corkscrew, so it looks like a really pretty curly fry or something(see picture). I thought my boyfriend's chicken had good presentation and the portion was HUGE and my steak(16 oz.) was also large, presentation-meh, I could care less for a steak. This was our first visit and it could not had been more perfect. It started with our top notch server Savannah, she was beyond pleasant and attentive. Then came our food. Everything was perfect, the appetizer, soup, salad and breadsticks were wonderful. Followed by the main course, my girlfriend enjoyed the Garlic Beef Tenderloin and I had the King Cut Prime RibThey were both done to perfection! Even though being quite full, since the food was so Amazing, we had to try a dessert. We chose the Carrot Cake, this was the best we had ever tasted. A must try when you visit. Excellent fish fry! The online menu could use some work. I called for clarification on the buffalo cheese curds (buffalo sauce not buffalo mozzarella) and the sampler platter (duck strips are deep fried and mushrooms are not stuffed) the curds could have used more buffalo but I like spicy. The walleye was a little fishy and neither fish fry came with lemon, however, they were still tasty. It's probably unimportant to most, but the tartar was a bit bland.
