I went in for an oil change, and undercar inspection, as I was planning on driving to Juneau. I was…read moreinformed that my rear differential plug was missing, and it was replaced. I was verbally told twice the differential fluid was checked. I was told verbally once that it was topped off. I have currently been stuck in Tok for ELEVEN DAYS with a fried rear differential, awaiting repair from a local shop. When confronted by phone, the manager told me that if it had been checked and topped off, there would've been a charge of $49.95 on the bill, which there wasn't. That part is fair, I get it. I am very mad about being verbally told that the fluid level was fine. I am now looking at a $2000 bill in Tok, plus 11 nights in a hotel, plus meals. UPDATE: I was reimbursed by their insurance company for expenses, but not my time.

I took my car in to have the tires switched from winter to summer tires. Unbeknownst to me, one of…read morethe tires has a bulge in it. It should be noted that it was this same Sears Auto Center that took the tire off at end of summer and now was putting them on again this summer: they had 2 chances 8 months apart to tell me about the bulge. The tires were always bagged so I didn't inspect them, just stored them over winter and brought them back this week. The Auto Center put this visibly defective tire on to the rim, and mounted it on my car, without ever notifying me. Several days after I noticed the bulge, etched in chalk by their staff. I returned to the center to ask them why they charged me to mount a tire that was faulty without asking me whether I'd like to buy a new tire to have that mounted instead. They were rude and did not offer to help, did not apologize for poor communication, did not offer me a refund or to solve the problem at all. They had the audacity to say I should book an appointment. After paying to have my tires mounted, I now need to go to another auto center to purchase new tires and have them mounted. This is a loss of my money and my time. I will never return to the Sears Auto Center in Fairbanks, and I will tell my friends not to ever go there. I was formerly a repeat, seasonal customer.
