This was an okay sandwich. For roast beef, a soda, and chips it came out to 17 dollars. The bread was incredibly dry and the roast beef was rubbery. I wasn't expecting Boar's Head but maybe something a little better. The guy inside seemed less than friendly and was short as he was ringing me up. They have an assortment of chips and sodas as well as a decent sized menu of sandwiches to choose from. Pearson Deli is a hole in the wall deli - located in Shelter Island area of San Diego. It was a Sunday morning, and I wanted to walk around (get some steps in on my FitBit). My manfriend suggested Pearson Deli to go eat, so that we can go right into walking around Shelter Island afterwards. There were 2 guys behind the counter at Pearson Deli. When I asked how long they have been around - the older gentleman said 21 years. I tried their Deviled Eggs (some other Yelp review said it was "worth the occasional drive from LA"). I also tried their Pastrami Sandwich (with everything). I'm usually not a fan of pickles or mustard in my sandwich, but for some reason, the combo worked. Bread and meat were really fresh! I had a nostalgic moment (like I was having some fresh pastrami from NYC). There is a little seating area outside the Deli to enjoy the San Diego weather / breeze. I also might add - GOODNESS. Love this cute little mom and pop deli on Shelter Island. Located near the fuel dock for boats in the area, this deli is a tucked away gem that guests/travelers in the area might miss if they aren't paying attention. We were lucky to spot it while walking around Shelter Island and since I'm always a big fan of a good sammie, I figured we'd try them out! Look for the white sign with an arrow that says deli and you'll know you're headed in the right direction. The business is ran by a sweet older couple who promptly greeted us when we walked in. I ordered the pastrami and cheese on sourdough and my boyfriend went with the Italian hero. Let me just say their sandwiches are MASSIVE and worth every penny. They were so tasty and so filling, I almost couldnt finish mine! They also have snacks and beverages for purchase and a few side options as well if you are looking for something to pair with your sammie. Tiny little deli on the Shelter Island marina. I ordered 10 sandwiches for a business lunch, dropping off a written order when they opened. At noon I picked up the order, which was individually bagged with each person's name on them. Don't listen to the complaints from these bougie yacht owners. Its a fuel dock and deli. You get what you get. Don't expect the atmosphere or customer service of a waterfront restaurant. DO expect some fucking delicious and satisfying food. A few days ago my friend got a tuna melt from here and let me have a single bite of his sandwich. From that ONE BITE days ago I was hooked. I could not stop thinking about it. Last night I woke up dreaming about it and just had to get my hands on that tuna melt. I called in my order today and they had it ready for me when I arrived. It was just as delicious as that one bite I had days ago. The bread had the best golden crust I've ever seen on a piece of toast. I don't know how they do it. It was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Per someone else's recommendation, I ordered it with jack cheese. It was all nice and melty on the sides of each slice of bread. The tuna inside - the heart of the sandwich - is so well seasoned. I didn't even like warm tuna before this experience but now this is my favorite sandwich of all time. The only downside is I am now physically and emotionally dependent on this tuna melt and will need to eat it regularly so I don't have withdrawals. read more

My bestie always hits this place when visiting from Colorado so we thought we would give it a try for our make shift picnic on the island. The couple that owns the place are so cute. He told me they had been there for 20 years making sandwiches. We ordered a turkey/cheese on white with everything on it and a pastrami/cheese on sour dough with the works. The sandwiches are very hearty, I could have easily split mine. They sell the "Dirty Potato Chips" brand there which I love. Prices are a little higher but not too high. I was impressed for my first time. The BLT with avocado, was very good and all the veggies were fresh. Good amount of bacon and Mayo. This is a cool little deli shop with a good sandwich. My first time here and i went with the turkey with everything on it (onion lettuce tomato cheese mayo mustard). The thing was pretty big as you can see in my pic compared to the pop and my hand. As for taste and freshness...it was spot on. Very good. No complaints here. Wow! This place is still around. Use to come here 10 years ago when we had our boat. Was awesome to pull right up to the fuel dock, grab ice a hundred gallons of diesel and hit the deli for a few sandwiches. Service is a bit slow and the menu is limited but it's a little gem on the water. There are tables behind the deli you can sit at and watch boats of all sizes come in for fuel. I don't suggest getting used to the gobs of filth flying around on the ceiling fans no matter how much you like their sandwiches. It looks like a barnyard back room in there but barns usually have unripped screens that work at keeping out disease carrying flies. But I digress. First, a club sandwich has ham in it. And, technically, is double decked and cut in diamond quarters, but we'll forget that as obviously too futuristic for the goals of this trench. I can see why people like the turkery and avocado sandwich passing as a club though. I like atmosphere as much as the next guy and I expect some flies and smells around a boat and fishing dock to add to the scene, but sticky tables and leftover rotten food on a littered deck is not my idea of fun in the San Diego sun. How these people are able to keep this city and port authority contract is beyond me. City coffers could be collecting lots more money if this place knew what they were doing. I love this place. The owners/proprietors are so adorable, and their deviled eggs are worth the occasional drive from LA! The tuna sandwich is good, and the egg salad sandwich is fantastic. And they're huge! The egg salad sandwich was enough for two of us. (Though we each did have five deviled eggs prior to diving into the sandwich.) Pearson's Deli is a great example of a three-star location that's definitely worth the occasional visit. The sandwiches are solid, if not great, and the view and quiet are incredibly relaxing, even if the environment itself is a little run down and poorly cared for. The cold cuts are cold cuts, but they aren't the saltiest or least flavorful I've had. As far as cold cuts go, I'd guess they're pretty good quality. the cheese, which I'm guessing was supposed to be provolone, lacked any real distinction, but its as good as you'll get at subway, or Jersey Mike's, or etc... the real draw here is that the family making the sandwiches behind the counter seem like great people; a hard-working family just churning out pretty good lunches and slinging sodas and ice teas to folks working on, or visiting, the marina. In this, they are very successful. It's also the view of the marina, which is simultaneously bustling with the near seam-splitting excess of personal yachts, trawlers, and other assorted watercraft while maintaining the peaceful and deep serenity ocean front seems to offer. The biggest thing keeping me back from four stars is this: the environment of the eatery itself really holds it down. There aren't any awnings or other covering to keep the sun off your skin and the tables are old and beat up. Still, if you're looking for a no frills, down to earth, decent bite to eat and an out-of-the-way spot to get a slice of quiet on a weekday afternoon, I think you could do worse. read more

I miss a good deli especially since moving from the East Coast. THIS was a great place. I asked for a whole sandwich and didn't realize the insane size! I think I ate an entire foot long sandwich.
