Went to Pedro's for the first time last night- it's been on my to-do list as I've heard great things about their margaritas. We were quickly seated. Staff was friendly and attentive. The restrooms were clean and I also really enjoyed the decoration inside and outside. We showed up at the very tail end of happy hour- our waitress still was kind enough to count our first round of drinks as happy hour prices. The classic margarita was good and I enjoyed a few draft Modelos as well. We shared a plate of nachos to start and I ordered the barbacoa burrito for my entree. Both appetizer and burrito were largely portioned and delicious! All was reasonably priced as well. Overall, cool little spot and good food! read more

This was an excellent stop on our East Coast trip. The biggest raves were for any dish with chicken in it. They claimed it's very moist and really delicious. The salsa was tasty. Drinks were solid. Chili special was a hit. The chicken fajitas and shrimp tacos are great choices. I think the best part was the fun semi party atmosphere with cute lights, Halloween decorations and good music. With Covid on a Tuesday night there weren't many options, but we were thrilled to stumble upon this place and will definitely be back! read more

I've heard some locals enthuse about this place, so I looked forward to my first visit. Either they were wrong or our timing was poor. Overpriced, slow, and mediocre sums it up. I'll praise the soup special, a cilantro-and-lime chicken-and-rice concoction with avocado chunks and a pleasing broth. The tortilla crisps are good, too. Went in for dinner on 7/16/22 and had one of the worst service experiences of my life. Our waiter, Matt, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or some other controlled substance. He forgot one of our drink orders, didn't bring enough glasses for the pitcher of sangria, forgot to put our order of nachos in, resulting in the appetizer coming out after the food AND the wrong size. Then, a nice woman comes out asking if we got food but didn't know what dishes she was holding. Overall, service was a mess here and our server was making similar mistakes at other tables. Having eaten at hundreds of great Mexican Restaurants, I can say this is not one of them. The salsa was like cold spaghetti sauce, the fish tacos had litterly no fish, just fried breading, my Al Pastor taco tortillas were overcooked, however, the ingredients were tasty, and the Burrito was good except for no Queso. Apparently, Queso is a special order? Additionally, I have never had to order Chips and Salsa? The one star is for the drinks. They were good. read more

Really unpleasant experience there last night. First off, there is no kids' menu, but if you ask, they can make something small for the kids (and it rings up as "kid's taco" or "kid's quesadilla.") Really strange. My articulate eleven year old clearly ordered a "kid's steak taco" and asked for cheese and avocado on the side. When the food was brought out, it was literally a small bowl with steak, a small bowl with cheese and one slice of avocado in a bowl. No tortilla and no plate! When we were finally able to flag her down ten minutes later, she proceeded to argue with us that she "confirmed" this is what my daughter wanted (three side dishes?). She reluctantly brought over two small tortillas, charged us for them separately, and when all was added up, it was $19 for a kids' portion of tacos. Another server walked by and saw my daughter eating off of her napkin and asked us if we wanted a plate. Ummm, yea, we do. Shaylene continued to argue with us that she "confirmed" my daughter's order-I'm not sure what she meant by that but between the price, the attitude and the service, this is not a place I would return to. I took my granddaughter out for dinner to Pedro's last Saturday. I used to be a regular, but not as much recently. Since there was an hour wait for a table, I ordered a Margarita for myself and a coke for my granddaughter at the end of the bar. The weather was nice enough to sit outside and sip while we waited. I paid with my debit card and left an over 20% tip in cash. I clearly marked the merchant's receipt with cash as a tip and the final amount. A few days later I noticed that my card had been charged for a few dollars more than the agreed amount that I signed for. Not a big amount, but irksome non the less. I'm not a fan of that type of practice. Once we were seated, our dinner and server were very nice and luckily I only used cash for that transaction. read more

Absolutely horrid service. I was a return "guest." We stopped here every summer. On our way back from Bar Harbor and NESCAC college tours, we resumed our vacation in Kennebunkport and thought we'd go to one of favorite places. Realizing summer and COVId times, I called in the afternoon at 2:30 to make a reservation to be told that reservations weren't necessary. When we arrived, we were turned away because the waitlist booked them for the rest of the evening. The hostess gave me the long song and dance about how busy they are. After talking with manager about a takeout order that was not up to their usually good standards, I was told a refund would happen. Then a person stating they were the manager took debit card info and stated a full refund would take place. That did not happen. Really owners maybe some more training is in order. read more

We had a great time at Pedro's, the atmosphere was fun and casual, and the food was delicious. The decor in the restaurant sets the vibe for the entire experience. It's eclectic, but not in the calculated sense of an Applebee's a la 2000. Instead, it communicates that there's fun to be had here. The margaritas help that message of fun along quite nicely as well. Even the basic, no frills version is tasty. Unlike some restaurants I've been to, they don't skimp on the basic margarita as a way of forcing you to upgrade to a more expensive version. If we hadn't been driving later, I would have been happy to sit around and drink these all night. The food is also terrific. Yes, you pay for your chips and salsa, but it's well worth it. The chips taste fresh, none of this bagged totilla chip nonsense here. And the roja salsa was fantastic. Starting a trend that continued throughout the rest of our meal, it wasn't an "authentic" salsa roja. It was just a tasty one. And that sums up what I liked best about Pedro's: it knows what it wants to be. Delicious food, fun atmosphere. Another example of that approach was the refried beans. They were sort of sweet, with a unique mix of spices. They didn't taste like any other refried beans I'd ever had. And I liked them that much more for it. My only regret about the restaurant? That we visited on vacation and that it's normally so far away. read more

My wife and I ate at Pedro's lat night. She had Sopa de Marisco, and I had enchiladas rojas.both were pleasantly spicy, and the flavors were distinct rather than all muted as you so often find in midrange Mexican cooking. Went on a Saturday night. A little before 7pm. They were able to fit 6 of us outside right away no problem. After us there was a small wait. There's a parking lot!! However it does fill up fast. I was lucky enough to snag a spot. Chips and salsa were decent. Not free. I think it was like 2 dollars. Got the guacamole and it was very good. I had the small chicken tinga tacos. Small comes with two tacos, large is two tacos plus rice and beans. The chicken was delicious. Very juicy, cooked with peppers and onions and perfect amount of spice. My husband got the carne asada tacos and they were over cooked. Rice and beans were bland. I tried their special margarita which was watermelon. Very fresh, not artificial tasting. read more

Really, really good Mexican food- in Maine- believe it or not! Great festive atmosphere and fun decor. We started with the guacamole, which was above average. (I compare all to Rosa Mexicano, so I have unattainably high expectations). I had the Mexican Street Tacos for my main course, which were so good and fresh! A perfectly sized portion- not too big, not too small. My husband had the Enchiladas Verde, which he enjoyed. Great change of pace to all the seafood we've been eating in KenneB. Visited in August 2020. Atmosphere is great, fun, post beach atmosphere. Feels like you're on vacation.... Sadly we were kind of disappointed with the food. We ordered carne asada tacos, chimichanga, burritos...etc..a pretty broad sweep of the menu overall in our large party. We found the food to be fairly bland honestly. Beans had no seasoning or flavor. My daughter said that the most flavorful thing on her plate was the lettuce. Also, I don't understand why you can go to a Mexican restaurant in say, no-whereville Indiana and you know the restaurant isn't raking in $$$ compared to a place in wealthy Kennebunk...but somehow it seems like every other Mexican restaurant in the planet can manage to afford to bring out tortillas and salsa on the house...the moment you sit down... This place you have to pay for chips and salsa...and the chips were sorta stale and the salsa pretty bland. I don't get it... It seems like a Mexican restaurant tradition (free tortillas and salsa) it's an extremely thoughtful gesture and I'm sure it's not cheap and easy for every other restaurant to uphold that tradition. It was fabulous until our server disappeared for 35 minutes then we had to wait another 15 minutes for the check. Food orders rolled out, so perhaps short staffed for servers? In a word, my experience at Pedro's was so above and beyond that I felt it was necessary to create a Yelp account and leave this review. One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. What more could you ask for? Friendly conversations with the staff, an attentive waitress, and a personal check-in from the owner. Especially considering the pandemic, and that we were sat within an hour of their close, the staff and service were top notch. Let be clear here though, the service would have been nothing without the delicious food and drinks. Everything on the menu from the sauces to the barbacoa to the hand squeezed margarita ingredients took the experience to the next level. If you are ever in Kennebunkport, Pedro's is a MUST. read more
