Not a coffee expert but definitely an avid (Peet's) coffee drinker. I only go to this location because it's right next to my apt and whenever I do my drink tastes horrible. I order the same thing every time and for some reason my iced vanilla latte is always watery/acidic. My drink tastes and even looks different when I go to other locations so I'm not sure what it is... it's like the quality of espresso is way different here? Better off driving to Lake Merritt or Emeryville. read more

I was in line and watched people get their coupon. Nice, very nice. Now my turn. I buy 4 pounds. Should I get 4 coupons or only one? Well according to them, only one. It's Peet's. You either love their product or you don't. However, it's the service that has lead me to Yelp 'em. The past 2 times I've been in this store, the men behind the counter have all been polite and accommodating but the women (ok, it's not ALL of them and it could have been the same one both times so don't get on me for pointing this out, I'm just sayin') have not been particularly pleasant. I've heard quite a few snotty-toned things snapped out - things like a drink is ready which does not require a snotty tone, particularly on the first call. So I checked in to Peet's to get the check-in special of $1.00 off any drink. Pretty good deal, I thought. Got my coffee and sat down at the table. Across from me I see this man furiously knitting away - superfast. We got to talking and it turns out that he sells the hats that he knits. He will knit a hat to your liking if you place an order with him. He needs 50 percent down payment and the balance to be paid after you receive the hat. Well, this was three weeks ago and he promised me a hat in one week. I have been calling him and leaving messages which go unanswered. Clearly, he has NO intention of delivering the product he promised and has taken off with the money that I gave him as a down payment. BEWARE! Peet's customers: This man works out of Peet's in the Dimond District and at the Lakeshore location. He is African-American with braids and is seen knitting away in the back. DO NOT give him your money. He is a thief and a charlatan!!! How Peet's lets him scam their customers is beyond me. I called Peet's and spoke to the assistant manager and told him what had happened. Peet's won't bar him from coming in there but the person I spoke to said that if he sees the man trying to sell inside Peet's, he will tell him to stop. A fat lot of good that is going to do! He will just go outside to make the sale. If Peet's cares about their customers, they would make sure that this man never enters their premises again. They claim that they "reserve the right to refuse service." Well, use it!!! And stop the scamming of your customers. That $1.00 that I tried saving on the coffee cost me ten times as much by trusting this man that Peet's indirectly and tacitly supports. Not Cool, Peet's! Give a hoot about your customers. read more

This is my local Peet's and while I want to to support it more often it's just too pricey. I prefer the taste of Peet's over Starbucks but I hate paying the extra 50 cents for my soy milk. I wish their pre-loaded cards would work like the Bucks does and give me free soy. Aside from my soy gripe I have to say the staff here is always super nice and friendly - big plus there. When I first moved here I used to come more often to get work done but the wi-fi times out every 2 hours and I can only buy so much stuff. Also the store is freezing cold so sitting there too long is impossible. They layout is awkward and there is lots of bumping into people as well. Because its in my hood I still come about once a week but always get my latte to go. read more

This review is based on one visit at this location. I was in the area today (for the 2nd time this week, thanks to La Farine!) and decided to stop in. The store is large and clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. I got a pound of Italian roast ground for our espresso machine and also got a caramel latte (hey, it was non-fat at least!). The latte went great with the lemon-oatmeal cookie I got from la farine. I'm glad to see Peets is giving star**cks some competition. I'm a Peets fan all the way & I even remember a time before the parasitic flourishing of that other company all over the East Bay. The Fruitvale area is enjoying a nice period of growth - while I don't shop this area regularly, it's nice to know that I can get some good staples when I'm in the 'hood. Of course, with Peets and the bakery a few doors down - both right off the freeway - I could be spending a lot more time around here! read more

Just got back: There is a huge-ass parking lot (with 4 hours of free parking) around back (if you're looking at the storefront, you access the parking lot from the street to the left). The store is more narrow than most recent additions to Peets, making the layout a little funky - no separate "bean" counter/register, just two registers that handled both beverages and beans/tea/merchandise. I think they should have put the tea island at the back facing the front door, because when I came in, I thought maybe they had just left it out (because of the narrowness). It was there, though, on the lefthand wall, thank The Maker... I was there today (Tuesday) at around 4:30pm and the place felt busy, with about 3-4 people in line. Really good staff. Pleasant, efficient, interested and well-trained. Keep it up, kids. Don't let the place fall to disrepair. I love you guys too much. read more

I come to this Peet's once in awhile, and it continues to be off. When I order oatmeal, one barista always asks if I want it 'wet,' and today they were out of almond milk...at 9am. I tend to stop at one a little further down the freeway when I can. There is clearly an issue with training here, and ordering. read more

I love the atmosphere in here. Cool temperature, great coffee smells, and polite clientele. Today I was asked to wait an extra minute for my regular coffee, and when it was ready Carlos brought it to my seat. He explained that it wasn't the strongest, and that I could come back for a free refill when that was ready. Later on I thanked him again, not wanting to bother about the refill, since the coffee already tasted good. He went out of his way to offer the refill again! kudos for being open turkey day, even if it's just till 3. seems nobody save saveway was open. as usual i got in the wrong line and had to be directed to the waiting line. (my bad!). the l. coffee(1.95) was sumatra, a heavy roast, not smooth enough for me. the coffee was very hot and they didn't provide a coffee cup warmer. the warmer was at the cream bar, across from the order counter.at the cream bar, i had a coffee lid malfunction. the lid popped off when i grasped the coffee to leave. feeling a little whoosy and heading for the exit door i encountered a minisea of humanity. i inadveratantedly bumped into someone on the left when i exited. my bad. apologies given. while the staff here is very friendly and fastidious, the outlay of the cafe creates ample room for accidents to happen. for the public safety of others, i'm going to avoid this place. read more

I can't believe I come here almost every day and still haven't reviewed this Peets! I love the staff - there is such low turnover and it's nice to see at a large franchised coffee shop. Even when it's busy in the morning, they all take the time to say hello to everyone - by name! - and remain friendly under fire :) This place is great to come in around 10am after the morning rush to drink your coffee, eat your La Farine pastry from next door, and catch up on your "internet errands". read more

I don't drink coffee. Occasionally, I find myself in coffee places. If I can help it, I try not end up at Starbucks. I like to think this gives me a sense of dignity. When I did my deer-in-the-headlights look after they asked which free drink I wanted with my giftcard purchase they very sweetly offered me a free drink voucher instead. I appreciated this. It's bad enough for me to make complicated decisions at certain hours of the day and free drink vouchers allow me to make those intense decisions at my leisure. The people here are friendly and quite dutiful. It's probably the earliest closing Peet's in existence, but if that's the worst I can say about this place, that's not too bad at all. read more

This place is really good, the expected coffees and display case treats, but a very attentive and efficient staff. Stopping early in the morning, just off 580, is convenient and parking is always available. It is a place where people either linger or run in and out. I'm in the latter category. Even with a line the staff is always friendly and the coffees are made quickly. I try to patronize single, independent coffee establishments but this Peets draws me back. Worth the visit. read more

Great Staff and Super Friendly. They are one of the few coffee places that i have found to be extremely efficient these days. Everything is always stocked and clean. I'm a regular here, just down the street from my kids school. Great coffee and scones, fast service, and off-street parking. Life is good.

I wish I could give this location 0 stars, the only thing consistent about this location is the lack of customer service. I ordered ahead in the peet's app yesterday and was given a time when my order *would* be ready. I get there at the give time frame, and it wasn't. they ask me what I'm waiting for, and i tell them. the man comes back and says, "there are 7-8 orders in front of you, wait outside". I then told him I would like to cancel my order and then refund me my money back to my card. he was quite smug when he told me they don't do that, I have to call a 1-800 number to do that. I asked to speak to the manager. robin was unapologetic in the stance, very curt when talking to me and further proved why I will never go to this peet's again. I have gone to far busier locations and they still manage to honor the time that the app gives you. also, there are other chains that if you cancel your order that was placed through the app can give you your money back asap. was I surprised that the customer service was lacking, but I had hoped since my last visit that it had improved. read more

Shout out to the early evening staff that served us this past Friday. Big boo to the Sunday morning staff that just couldn't get our drinks (and others) right. They were super busy, and the staff could not keep up. Our dirty chais were too much almond milk, not enough chai, and lacking in any espresso flavor. Since they charge a whopping $5.20 per 16 oz. cup, we asked to have them remade by someone else. Sadly, those also weren't as great as our Friday treats. When it comes to coffee shops, I need consistency. I don't quite understand why different baristas pour drinks of varying quality. And I'm going to complain until I understand this phenomenon. I rarely visit Pete's but this place was on our way home. We stopped in for a coffee and an afternoon snack. We ordered a coffee, dirty chai tea (tea with expresso) and 2 kids hot chocolates. My coffee was just fine, the chai tea had a little too much spices and the kids hot chocolate was too hot for the kids compares to their competitors. There was an incident that a heckler came in ahead of me and started ranting how horrible Oakland was. The staff brushed it off and did not let it get to them. I definitely would not appreciate that type of hostility especially at 7 in the morning. I hope more people would come by here. This Peet's has gone so down hill, which, makes me sad. I used to live in the neighborhood and would be a regular.. until the quality of the coffee took a nose dive. After that, I changed and started going to the big old competitor up the street in the grocery store. The last time we were back in the neighborhood, we decided to give them another try. Another epic.fail. Neither of us could tell the difference between the cocoa and the mocha.. at first.. then we noticed the distinct burnt coffee beans flavor. The staff wasn't much help in that department.. we tossed both drinks in the bins behind the store, and stopped at the next Peets on our way back to the city. Don't waste your time, too bad they've let it slum, it's a great location and neighborhood. My former neighbors deserve good coffee! read more

Customer service is always excellent. Some of the newer barristas give very little amount of whipped cream (could be improved, right?). My friend gets his order wrong every other time, which upsets him, I think it's the cashier's mistyping the order but Peet's staff are more than happy to remake his order. I could hardly listen to the background music so this place gets pretty packed and noisy. read more

My local Peet's on Lakeshore doesn't have air conditioning because it is an older building. I enjoyed the standard large Peet's Iced non-fat latte. I usually get a short pull vanilla latte w/low fat milk and it is always tasty. I would normally give this Peet's location five stars simply because my Team stops by at least 3x/week for chai tea, lattes, or a very expensive beverage. It's been since March 2018 that we've come to get our beverages. However, today at 4pm, a new girl at the register insisted I name my chai tea bags in a medium cup, Masala. I kept saying just give me two chai tea bags in a medium cup. Finally, after 3 attempts, she adhered to my request however she put the bags in a large cup. And due to her not putting the string between the doubled cup, they fell inside the beverage. Her name is Minzie or close to that. I tried to assist by sharing the proper way to avoid the string slipping inside the beverage, but she became rude with assistance from Iz, who was making drinks at the bar. When the supervisor appeared and I was complaining about my experience and sharing that Iz had motioned to Minzie to just ignore me, Minzie thought I was speaking of her and said, I hear you talking about me. But it was Iz!! What a mess! My point is, it was a poor experience at Peet's Fruitvale and Iz needs to be a better example to co-workers. Fortunately, the Supervisor on duty was had a good listening ear and understood how a large cup diluted my beverage and just made me another chai tea in a medium cup. read more
