After becoming a household name from their uber famous Metairie location, I was delighted when…read moreDrago's finally made its way to Baton Rouge. Any place that is known for their oysters will always get my vote, even when they opened during the height of COVID. They still managed to push along and became one of the city's most well-known seafood destinations. Fast forward to 2025 and it's now closed. While I'm disappointed, I can't say I'm surprised. The place went from being the new kid in town to looking dated in a short handful of years. The staff was always a mixed bag, with subpar service outpacing the occasional outstanding experiences. It was always so spacious in here but rarely full, that I never understood the need for the hostess to give my large groups of people a hard time about not making reservations. (#1) The oysters are and will always be the star of the show. I love a good raw oyster and they seemed to have a decent batch each time, however the charbroiled ones were the ones to get. They were buttery, a little messy, and heavily seasoned with lots of salty parmesan on top. It was sometimes the only worth ordering given how inconsistent the rest of the menu was. Some other go-tos were the seafood pasta, lobster mac, and even the occasional gator tacos but even those dishes had their bad days. I was actually pretty impressed with their ribeye, but was quite disappointed with the boudin balls, gumbo, and some of their fried shrimp. In addition to service snafus and inconsistent food, the prices were always a tough pill to swallow. I'm aware seafood will forever carry a premium price tag, but when other seafood places charge a lot less for better quality output, then it becomes a point of contention. While I do hope they find a reason to re-open in Baton Rouge, I think I'll stick to their original location in Metairie. My dirty martini was deliciously icy, but not as dirty as I would have liked. I loved my friend shrimp platter, except it was bizarre when I asked for the onion rings to be left off my plate (I don't eat them and I hate to waste food). I was told they were part of the presentation and couldn't be removed...except they were pretty much on the side of the plate.

The spicy vodka sandwich is very, very good, and it is a very large sandwich. You could split one and both people will walk away happy. Service here is fantastic- refills as soon as you ask and a kind staff, even when there's a rush. I will say there is a little bit of a wait, BUT good food should take time, and that is the case here. PS- the Lebanese Tea is fantastic!

But after looking around for a moment, she found a more descriptive menu. I suppose if you're a regular, that's not an issue. For a first timer, it's weird. I came here with high hopes for an Italian hoagie ("The Italian"). A good Italian hoagie is hard to find in the heart of po-boy country. The meat and cheese on this version is good, but the sandwich is kind of small and a bit dry. The menu says it includes roasted red peppers, but that was missing from my sandwich. It does appear they have a nice variety of bagels. Overall not bad, but I'm still in search of a good Italian hoagie.

A fun way to experience a little French cuisine and ambiance. I went here for lunch on a Saturday,…read moreand it was pretty busy, but such a vibe! There are tons of options for food. I was craving a sanwhich, so I got the half Caprese sandwich with a side of fruit. You order at the counter, and if part of your meal can be made right there, then it is. The fruit could be made right there, so they gave me the fruit cup and then gave me a number for my sandwich. It took a minute for the sandwich to come out, but they have free bread slices by the fountain machine that I got while I waited. When my sandwich came out, I devoured it. It was so good and hot...just how I like it. There is no Coke products here, only Pepsi, so beware of that. When you are done, you just leave the tray/plate and they come get it. There is tons of seating in here too.

That's where the surprise came from - it is really, really good! The baguette was toasted to perfection and balanced the amount of cheese very well. The pasta was refreshing and also surprisingly good. I thought it would be a very "tomatoey" salad, but it wasn't. All flavors are well balanced, mostly. Personally, I'm not a fan of green onions, so to me this pasta was a little heavy on those, but easy enough to pick them out. The Turkey Bistro also very delicious! The sun dried tomato mayo goes so well with the turkey. The toasted bread is a little hard so be cautious of that if it can be an issue. Tomato basil soup was very good, a little too chunky for my taste but still taste good. Loved the free dipping bread for soaking up all the delicious soups and sauces. Extremely friendly and helpful staff! I loved the quaint cafe vibes. The bathroom was very clean and easy access. Lots of parking as it's next to Barnes and Nobles. 5/5 Will return soon!

I had red beans and rice and a stuffed baked potato. Hubby had the grilled shrimp po boy with a side of potato salad. First off, the side dishes are huge. They were fresh and delicious. The red beans and rice were worth the stop. Hot temperature wise and just enough spice to be real cajun food. The potato was hot and fluffy and was gigantic. It was cooked all the way and soft, not like a lot of restaurants serve! The flavor of the po boy was delicious and fresh. The roll tasted fresh baked. Thank you, Rouge Rabbi, we hope to return If you have the chance, try it, you won't be sorry. The seating is cute, they have online ordering, and the prices are reasonable, $15-$20 per person.

So I used #Yelp and found @rougerabbitbr off of Essen, in the United Plaza. I've driven down Essen multiple times but never knew about this place. It's a nice quaint, very much South Louisiana spot that serves breakfast and lunch. The staff were very kind and friendly. Now I didn't get a breakfast burrito this time, instead I got a breakfast bowl which was soooo good! Next time, I have to try the burrito and the French toast but also something from their lunch menu. If you are in the BR area and wanna try a local spot, check out Rouge Rabbit.
