Ordered a few dishes for dinner, Kung pao chicken, beef broccoli, and lo mein noodles. The beef broccoli was sour, especially the beef part..., felt like the ingredients weren't fresh if you've ever had a bad piece of beef, you know what I mean. Lo mein was overcooked with the noodles so thick. Kung pao chicken was okay. Service was fine and restaurant was empty, makes sense since it's really a carry out place. Was really excited and looking forward to it with reading the other reviews on Google but it did not live up to expectations, I should've checked yelp.. Only upside was large portion size. I stopped in because I wanted a snack, I was craving spring rolls. When I got in, the smell made me extra hungry, so I ordered 2 vegetable spring roles and an order of shrimp tempura. Both came out hot and crispy, but anything deep fried will be hot and crispy. One of the spring rolls had only cabbage. The second one had signs of carrot and something else. But neither had any seasoning. Completely tasteless. The shrimp tempura were a little better, but the batter was very thick, and I tasted a tinge of freezer burn. Again, tasteless. Only sauce offered was duck sauce. At least I was given a lot of it. These are simple items. I probably won't be back to try the more complicated offerings. read more

Guys. I've been ordering from here for 11 years now. I never bothered writing a Yelp review for them because of their consistency. It's consistently been up and down; however, aside from that oxymoron, it's also been a nearby constant in our bi-monthly weeknight dinner rotation. There's always either the polite young adults who pick up the phone or the irritable aunty. The food is always ready at an alarmingly fast rate, and always lava hot, just like my family likes it. Like I said, consistency. This evening changed everything. We didn't receive any crispy wonton strips with our two large containers of hot and sour soup. Of course, my husband didn't check the bag upon pick up, but wonton strips are always included. Not even 1 bag. Additionally, the mushrooms in the aforesaid soup were raw. I'm not diggin' this, guys. It's a travesty. This isn't how I wanted to ring in the new year. Here's hoping to improvements in their 2025 quality control and service. read more

This place used to be our go-to Chinese carryout. The personal were abrupt, to the point of being rude, but the food was, for the most part, good. Over the last year or so we noticed the quality and consistency of the food dropped off dramatically. Thai basil chicken was great one night and the next night the order had little chicken or was too hot to eat. Same with the pork with garlic sauce. We have now eaten here twice in the last two weeks and both times the food was delish! Dine in once (great to have it super hot and now) and take out the other. General Tso's, Lo Mein, Friend Rice, egg drop soup, beef and broccoli, mooshu pork, and sweet and sour chicken, egg rolls, etc. All the food was hot and portions were good. The staff is very friendly and I could watch them cook all day. Was even given extra food because there was a coupon that I didn't know about and they showed me and gave it to me. This is my new favorite restaurant. I tried so many Chinese restaurants in Fairfax and was disappointed, but this one was everything I'd hoped! The mixed vegetable dishes are fantastic, and you can have them with any kind of sauce. I've eaten there three times now, and all three times it was really good. They do have a huge menu though, so perhaps not everything on it is good (judging by the mixed reviews), but I can vouch for the stir fry vegetable dishes with sauce. read more

We've been going here for (15) so many years. We ordered Lo Mien with beef chicken and shrimp. There was no shrimp just three little pieces (1/10th) of a tiny shrimp. Same with the chicken and beef. I really don't know what is happening. We may have to find a new restaurant. Hope you have a better experience. Sad after Covid prices went up and service went down and now they may use the new tariffs to raise them again. Will see what happens. Solid offering of half Peking Duck to-go. Has always been consistently good, and I never hesitate to pick some up when I'm out this way. When I lived in Burke, this was our go-to Chinese delivery or takeout. They used to have indoor dining but with Covid and restrictions on indoor dining, they have tables squared off to block entry into the dining area, making it essentially a to-go counter for orders. This used to be a pretty good, dependable restaurant. We noticed a couple of years ago that it started going down hill. The food had gone from pretty good to slightly below average. But it was convenient. FOOD We did takeout tonight and the entire experience was bad. As far as food, we had lo mein and kung pao chicken. The lo mein was adequate. Marginal but edible. The kung pau was bad. The chicken tasted off, and its texture was . . . odd. Plus, it had way too much sugar--yes sugar--added. I suspect it was trying to cover up the other off-taste. It wasn't what anyone would consider kung pao, and it's not what they'd served in the past. SERVICE The service was bizarre. We'd called at 9:50 pm for carryout. Their posted closing time said 10:30. Yet we were informed that the credit card machine was already shut down. (That's our usual payment method.) My wife was scolded for calling so late--40 minutes before their stated closing time. If we wanted the food, we had to pick it up quickly. IMMEDIATELY. We live about 10 minutes away. I drove straight there, arriving about 10:05. The food was waiting. I went to the counter to pick up the food and pay and got multiple nasty lectures from the guy I assume is the owner. Why did we call so late? I thanked him very much for preparing the food and having it ready. Why hadn't we picked it up EARLIER. It was only 15 minutes after ordering, and I politely explained that I'd driven straight there. The owner pointed out that most of the other stores in the place had closed (an auto parts store, a gym, a U.S. Post Office, a tobacco shop, etc.) so he aggressively asked why we'd expect him to be open if no one else was. (Maybe because their posted closing time was 10:30? That reminded me why we usually order pizza from another store in the same shopping center.) Thanking him hadn't eased the situation, so I apologized. (For ordering food and picking it up 20 minutes before closing time?) But the owner wanted to vent. He went on and on about how late it was, and why were we expecting food at that hour? On and on. I thanked him again and beat a hasty retreat. Even if it were just the food, we wouldn't return. The lo mein wasn't good and there was definitely something wrong with the kung pao. But the attitude and antagonism from the owner was inexcusable. AMBIANCE Not much. I'm going to give this restaurant 3 stars solely for keeping their prices low. It's rare you find a menu that continues to offer pre-Covid prices. So, if you're on a budget and don't actually know what makes good Chinese food good, this is the place for you. I'm not a fan of American Chinese food, preferring authenticity, and I'm happy to pay extra for the authentic experience. But, just having arrived home from trip, I was happy to settle for quick take home. And, kudos to this place for their speedy preparation as well. And that's the last of the Pros. The cons are what will keep me from ordering from here again. I was hopeful when I read their "authentic Szechuan" menu offerings, and they listed one of my favorite Szechuan dishes, the chili pepper fish fillets. The fish itself was fine, moist and not over cooked. But the preparation was a total let down. The dish was in fact fish fillets in sweet and sour sauce, of which I am not a fan. Stike one. We also ordered the shrimp with string beans. Not the worst and the shrimp were fresh enough, but the string beans were over cooked and limp, and the dish lacked flavor. Lastly, I was pretty hungry and wanting to give the place a real chance by ordering several familiar dishes, so we also ordered the Mongolian beef. It was lacking the signature smoky flavor, not enough green onions, and oddly, included button mushrooms. So, the flavor profile was not familiar. On the plus side, they didn't cut back on the meat like so many Chinese restaurants have had to do in order to keep their prices competitive. So, while I won't be ordering from this restaurant again, I think it accomplishes a solid 3 stars within their category. read more

I have lived in Fairfax Station for 14 years and used to eat here once a week sometimes twice. The Fired rice has always been good the hot and sour soup not so much so I stopped buying that. The Chicken and cashews also has been good. I stopped ordering a little over a year ago when I discovered they charged me extra when I asked for the fried rice to be spicy and for extra onions. They started charging me an extra $1 for this, not like they gave me much in the way of extra onions. It has been a bit over a year, I was late getting home so I decided to give them another try. Just the fried rice spicy with extra onions, now they charge $2 extra and give you 1/2 the amount. I am better off at the China Bistro in Fairfax City next to my work that has no problem accommodating my requests and does not charge extra more they also give me a full order! Honestly one of, if not the best Chinese take out ever. A dish that was distinctly to my liking was the Singapore Rice Noodles and the Szechuan Green Beans because of its taste. The portions are extremely large especially for a person like me who eats a lot. You are definitely getting your moneys worth ordering from here. In addition, the service was phenomenal. The amount of time it took to deliver the food was extremely short, with all the utensils I need to eat. We normally enjoy the food at Peking Chef but the last couple times it's not up to par. The chicken in the sweet and sour chicken was burnt, the containers our food came in was different and awful. The styrofoam containers melted and leaked all over. The taste was a miss and the egg rolls were over done and hard. According to the store I ordered combo meals that come with fried rice, and an egg roll yet I paid for the egg rolls I originally ordered. I didn't even know there was a combo. We've been ordering carry out a from Peking Chef for a few years (1) bc it's close, (2) bc it's consistently good if you're in the mood for basic Chinese carry out & (3) bc it's super easy to order online & they typically have pretty good promos/coupons. Ordered from here several times over the years. Order is always right with prompt delivery. I usually get the General Tso's, Shrimp Fried Rice, Crab Rangoon, Egg Drop Soup and Fried Chicken Wings. My favorites are the wings (with this delicious red sauce on the side) and Egg Drop Soup. I'm giving it a high 3 stars. Food and experience is always very positive but nothing really separates it from other Chinese Restaurants to put it into a higher rating. Worst place ever! They make mistakes and won't fix them! Recently placed a $60 order and they put shrimp in my dish which I cannot eat. I called to tell them that I had ordered it as chicken in the menus choices on-line, and they flat out just argued and argued, saying that I did not specify which meat I wanted so they gave me shrimp. You couldn't call and ask? I asked what was I supposed to do with an $18 dish that I could not eat and was told "I don't know- but its not our fault!!" I've been going here with my family for years. We just ordered and I went to pick up. On their door they have a sticker that says they accept tap to pay. I went in and told her i was using tap and she rudely told me they didn't have it and then a man came around the back screaming at me saying "they don't have it and they never have had it" I said I had to leave and get a card because I only brought my phone and he proceeded to follow me to my car yelling that i couldn't leave and not pay for the food when I LITERALLY had no way to!!! The management and people working there are so rude. They said the manager was too busy to speak to us when we asked. We've been coming here for years. All I simply asked for was hot sauce and the lady gave me 2 hot sauces for 7 of us so I asked for more and they threw a whole fit about us asking for hot sauce and then charged me so much extra. We have just recently moved to the area and I really think the food at this place is pretty darned good. I love that it's really spicy and a lot of flavor is packed in. So far, my favorite things have been the shrimp toast and the Curry chicken. Very spicy but oh so good! I have read a few reviews that the owner can be in a bad mood sometimes.
