I was a little leery of this because of the middling reviews, but most of them seem pretty old. I had some extra time, so I figured I'd check it out. And I am happy I did. The service was excellent from a couple of people. They were maybe half full at 1 on a weekday. The menu isn't huge, but covers all the basics, and has a pretty big lunch selection. I went with the beef string bean, marked spicy, and actually containing a bit of heat in the back but nothing overwhelming. Lots of tender beef, a savory sauce. Lots of green beans, so perhaps a bit healthy. Very average fried rice with it. Your choice of rice. And the eggroll was good, but not amazing. Still, very good entrée, pretty good eggroll, excellent service, decent prices. The place was comfy inside: a bit modern, but still feeling like an old-school Chinese-American place. Everything that I ordered was good. I got the chicken and string beans, a vegetable egg roll and vegetable soup. Most Chinese restaurants don't include sweet and sour sauce for the egg rolls anymore so I appreciate that it still comes with the egg roll here. It was a good egg roll, tastes like they make them in house. The soup was very good and full of lots of vegetables. The chicken and string beans were nice and spicy, which is the way I like it. Decided to give this place a try for the first time. I had hot and sour soup, hot pepper shrimp, and shrimp egg fu yung. Everything was delicious. They gave huge portions. The atmosphere is beautiful and inviting. And the service was great. The only thing that was lacking was that the hot pepper shrimp wasn't deep fried like I expected, but the flavor didn't lack and it was very delicious. Probably one of the worst Asian meals we've had. Ordered vegetable fried rice, sesame chicken and a tofu dish. Both the chicken and tofu dishes were dry with practically no sauce. I find their prices a little on the higher end so with a cocktail or 2, it's not an inexpensive visit. I believe they try to be a step upscale. Way better than you'd expect for the location/price. I tried a kung pao style dish late at night when the location was seemingly close to closing, and the quality I received was absolutely fantastic (and waaaay better than expected). I have just moved to this area 5 months ago. I wanted some Chinese food and this place was right down the road from where I am staying. Of all the food and soup I've had here it's been delicious. I shouldn't compare but from where I moved from I must have gotten spoiled from the Chinese restaurant I had frequented for years. The portions here were not at all like what I got at my former place and the prices are so much higher for what you get. This restaurant is okay at best. The inside is beautifully decorated and the alcoholic drinks are surprisingly very good, but the food is lacking a lot. The rice is bland. It taste like white rice with added soy sauce and no seasoning. The fried meat is consistency drenched in sauce, which makes the meal soft and soggy. My theory is that that fry to much meat in the beginning of the day and then try to heat it up by adding lots of sauce in a hot pan. The crispy duck is okay, but is overcooked and a bit dry.....but the flavor is nice. I would like to see if the quality changes at lunch time. My suggestion: Stay away from the food altogether and only come in for the drinks. If you must eat order an egg roll .......or maybe the duck (TBD on the duck). read more

I knew something was up as soon as I pulled in the parking lot. This was one of my favorite restaurants. They open at 1100. I pulled up at 1230 and the parking lot was completely empty. Where is the lunch crowd? I went inside and the restaurant was completely empty. I sat down and decided to google this restaurant. They have failed their last health inspection with a score of 72. There were 19 violations including roaches. I will not be going back. They still charged me $2.50 for a drink I did not touch. read more

The soup was amazing and very hot! Which I really like! I had the garlic beef and it had big chunks of fresh onions and celery in it! And the rice had egg in it which was great! The egg roll was my only complaint as it tasted frozen and was not very good...But my meal didn't need it ! Peking Dynasty Express is better than average. It's certainly better than you would expect to find in that kind of neighborhood. This is related to the one on 5th Avenue that looks like it's not even open. It also has a bar. The wait for the food isn't long either. I had the tofu with vegetables. It's about $9 for the lunch portion. This is plenty enough so get this size. It was only a few minutes to get it. This was hot and the tofu was crunchy without being too crispy which my preferred way. It doesn't have as big of a menu as the other location but the food was better. The service was fast while also friendly. It may not look like much but Peking Dynasty Express is competent Chinese. It has a bar so you can drink while you wait for your food. Older restaurant, kinda plain looking and it's showing it's age. It's more run down than cool retro, but it's not bad. I stopped in here after visiting the Schumacher Gallery @ Capital University. Service was pretty quick in a "Hey guy, what do you want?" kind of way. Hot and Sour Soup was pretty decent with a little emphasis on white pepper. Kung Pao Shrimp, ordered spicy, actually was pretty spicy and had a good flavor. It was heavy on the celery and not the best I've had but it was certainly not the worst either. Portion size was on the smaller end for dinner so it's an OK value but not a great value for what you get. I'm a Capital U grad, so this was my Chinese spot for 4 years - plus another year that I still lived in Bexley. As a college kid, it's great. It's quick, cheap and delicious - at times. I say at times because eating here over the last 3 years, when I've been in the area, has been like Russian Roulette. One experience I'm ready to leave 5 stars, and the next the chicken is mushy and under-cooked and the service is poor. So I've settled on 3 stars because the food, restaurant and service is just A-OK. Some pointers - order any fried meats extra crispy. Otherwise, anticipate an unappetizing chewy texture. Also, overly state your order. I prefer steamed rice, instead of fried, but still seem to get fried rice by accident 70% of the time. The neighborhood and outside of the restaurant might scare you away, but give the inside a chance. It's kept extremely clean and is very nice for dining in. They also have a 'party room' that's great for larger groups. My fraternity, during my time at Capital, would come in with 20+ guys and it would work out perfectly. read more

I recently have visited for the first time and ate here again two weeks later. The food is quite good, served fast and hot, just what you'd expect. The staff is polite and attentive and I have nothing negative to say. Lunch combos are affordable and it's more convenient even than a drive thru if you are in this area. My favorite Chinese food in town. I've been going here since college and the food has only gotten better over the years. The restaurant has been well appointed over the years and is always clean. We often do carry-out and the food is always ready quickly, fresh and hot. The sushi menu is pretty extensive and I've never been disappointed. The almond roll is great, crunchy and sweet. The fish or seafood is fresh and always has a good texture. You can sit at the bar and watch your rolls get made to order. They have great vegetarian options as well. I'm fond of the tofu pad Thai, I order that 95% percent of the time. The sauce is delicious, just spicy enough and very rich. The tofu is perfectly sautéed. Vegetables are always crisp and it even comes with fresh ground peanuts. The noodles are firm, not overcooked and mushy. When dining in the service is great, the staff is always welcome and friendly. Also, the bar is impressively stocked. Their lunch deal really can't be beat as well. We've been coming here for years and I don't think that'll end anytime soon. read more

My type of spot but I'm rollin solo....the wife is not with me. It's a lil weird sittin there on a date by myself so i tell em to pack this stuff up, this is now takeout. Anyway i got some crazy lookin sushi and it was pretty good but it had cream cheese in it and I don't like cream cheese. I didn't read what was in it before I ordered so that's on me. We wanted take out Chinese food for dinner one night and our usual spot I believe closed. So we thought we would check out Peking Dynasty. They took our order over the phone and seemed to understand what we were ordering. We were quoted 30 min for the food to be done. They must have been busy that night. So I waited a little while to leave before going to pick it up. When I arrived the food was bagged up and ready. I was the only customer in the restaurant so I felt safe. I paid and went home. Sadly when I started unpacking the food at home I realized they got our order wrong. My fiancé is allergic to eggs and they gave him fried rice which has egg in it. I felt so bad that I had not checked it prior to leaving the restaurant, but during this pandemic, I always just want to get in and get out as quickly as possible. They also gave me a larger order of rice than what I had ordered. Which turns out was of course more expensive. I've been coming to Peking Dynasty for something like twenty years, and it has never disappointed me. Delicious food, friendly owner, quick service: everything you could want in a meal. I particularly recommend: -The string beans. I love Chinese string beans and have tried them at restaurants all over the country, but no one matches up to Peking Dynasty's. Instead of cheap sickly-sweet brown sauce, their sauce is complex with notes of spice, sour, vinegar, crunchy pickles, fried onions, garlic - a complete wonderland of flavors! You *have* to try these. -Eggrolls. It's hard to do a bad eggroll, but these ones are GREAT. If I'm not hungry enough to have eggrolls with my meal, I always get one to take home. -Sushi. Way higher quality sushi than you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. Fish is always super fresh and quite tasty. -The lunch special is a fantastic deal: huge portions, plus fried rice and egg roll (or soup, but again - the egg rolls are SO GOOD) for less than $10.
