This is based off of one visit, but the soup I had was amazing! I ordered the regular Chow Ma Mein. Homemade noodles, plenty of 'stuff' in the soup and they made it perfectly spicy (I ordered a little spicy). It was a generous serving and I ate it for two meals. I love this place! It is my favorite Chinese restaurant hands down. Reading these reviews makes me want to venture out and try new things, but now that I no longer live in the city and can only get this when I feel like making a trip out of it I don't know that I could part with what I already crave. I love the beef and broccoli. Perfect sauce and nice lean meat. Egg rolls are insanely good. Crab ragoon is super good. Plus I recently saw these delicious looking/smelling wings on someone else's table and had to have them. They are cooked perfectly with crispy skin and this awesome sweet/ and spicy red sauce. This is going to be the world's most useless review because I have no idea what anything I ate was called. Everything I ate was very, very good, however, better than any Chinese I have had in Chicago. There's something about the not-updated-in-decades decor inside that I really like. I also got to cut noodles with scissors. That was fun. A group of five friends and I got several entrees to share and it was a LOT of food. A very satisfying experience!!! read more

Really great fresh Chinese food and such a bonus that they use brown rice for their fried rice. It is a bummer though that they do not deliver, nor do they even have carryout menus. I know they are more of a dine in place but seriously, it is not that difficult to print up some carryout menus! We tried the Mongolian beef, Crab rangoon, shrimp fried rice and mushroom chicken and all were very good! We will definitely be revisiting this neighborhood gem! read more

Hands down for black bean noodle soup and seafood noodle soup. The place is not fancy at all but this is the place you go to eat. I see lots of people ordering fried rice here and it's really what lots of people do at Asian restaurants but I wish they would explore beyond that when prices are not bad at places like here. read more

If at any point below or above this review you see anything less than 4 stars... know this those people have no clue. I have been around the block a few times. A chef, a cook in many places over the years. Besides a few dishes they have thst are pretty basic you find from every other Cisco (foods) and US foods pop up, premade menu, and run of the mill asian restaurants you see numbering in the thousands ( if you have never noticed have identical menus). This place has multiple dishes that are far beyond the cliche. And are unique with well balanced flavors. Portions are large and prices are great. The Mongolian beef was in my top 10...being of the right texture, ingredients, and flavor. The seafood soup surpasses pretty all other local asian places especially with portions and amount of what makes a seafood soup... well SEAFOOD MUST BE IN IT. The black bean sauce and noodles was also very good.... along with tge chicken wings. So please just ignore the people that are lacking... enjoy something that is not your average asian american crap restaurants. read more

The only thing bad about this restaurant is that it is too far from where I live. But whenever I have a craving for Korean-Chinese food this is the only place in the Chicagoland area that will satisfy! It's been my family's go to restaurant as far back as twenty years ago and it's still our favorite. i came in here with friends to split a jja jang myeon. to be completely honest, we had just eaten a Phattttt korean meal at ban po jung so we weren't exactly ravenous so that could shape my perception of these noodz. the noodles themselves were extremely chewy and the black bean sauce was full of Stuff, but just a little too sweet for my taste. the chili peppers and the vinegar on the table sure kicked it up a notch tho! and the portion was MASSIVE, prices were reasonable, and it came out super quick. the inside is what i imagine any 90's chinese american restaurant would have been decorated like, and it was really pleasant! even tho i went wayyy back (like maybe 6 months or so at this point?), i still remember distinctly how an engrossing episode of dr phil was playing right across from my table as we slurped some noodz. a fond memory indeed :) read more

The start of Summer 2013 family restaurant outings. Mom wasn't with us, so I gave the kids a choice in he car. Pizza or chinese. Obviously they chose..... I want to put this first, the Mongolian Beef is fantastic. I am glad mom wasn't with us. The restaurant has seen better days. Tired, older, and in need of a re-model. We were not shown to our table, but just pointed to the side room. I picked out of the 3 set tables. The waitress promptly came and took our drink order. Overall service was like the decor....tired, older, and in need of a re-model. Almost forgot...they were out of coke. Sprite ok??? Really. On to the food. These dishes were bland and forgettable: won-ton soup, cashew chicken, noodle lo mien, pot stickers. The egg roll was decent. Pretty tasty. Finally... The Mongolian Beef was out of this world. Really. Really GOOD. I might stop by just to get the Mongolian Beef. I did tell the kids, sometimes we hit a good one, and sometimes not. We did find a keeper for one dish. read more

This place has the staples: jjajangmyun (noodles in a black bean sauce), jjamppong (noodles in a spicy broth with vegetables and assorted sea food), mongolian beef, and delicious beef fried rice. The place itself seems a little run down, but their food makes up for it. The jjampong is pretty damn good--the soup isn't too spicy, the noodles are soft (but not too soft), and they're always nice enough to give an extra side bowl of soup if one person orders the jjampong. The beef fried rice is really good compared to other Korean-Chinese food places. The beef is tender and the portion is more than enough for 2 people. The servers are very friendly and though they don't necessarily stop by and ask how your meal is going, they're always walking around for you to be able to flag them down. Just by reading the other reviews I am going to have to give this place one more chance. I went in today and ordered the Kung Pau lunch special and an order of egg rolls. While it was good, it was certainly nothing special. The prices are awesome, and the food is fresh. Looks like I am going to have to steer away from the Chinese part of the menu and go Korean. read more

They have fire Jajangmyeon! I only go there for that dish but it's always a good sign to see koreans gather and eat here even though it's a Chinese restaurant. The ladies that work there are wonderful, it can really get busy in there at times! read more

I went in today. As always, it was delicious! Call me boring, but when I go there I have to have their mushroom chicken!!!! The brown sauce from this dish is oh, so tasty and the black mushrooms... what can I say? yummy!!! They remind me of shiitake mushrooms, but are a little fuller in texture, still chewy, though. Perfect in my book!!!! What's funny is that my friend, Karina, introduced me to this place 7 years ago, and both of us still go there when we get together. Karina always gets the spicy pork. She likes spicy food... I think the pork is delicious as well, but it won't make me give up my mushroom chicken. I like the sizzling soup, of course. And the bean curd one. I didn't know they have killer chicken wings, but I will go in just to try them. I'm a wing freak, unfortunatelly :) One more thing or two. Just to clarify things, I did try something else: the shrimp with oyster sauce. I liked it, but could not wean me off my mushroom chicken obsession. And they serve Tsingtao beer!!! The food is probably a 3/5, but the portions are massive, the service is prompt and responsive (and multi-lingual: English, Chinese, Korean, and Spanish), and the place is clean and cheerful. Judging by the looks of this place, both on the inside and outside, there is much left to be desired. However, don't let looks fool you here. This place is fantastic. The staff is very attentive and friendly. And the food is very good. I usually get the sweet and sour pork. It's reasonably priced, I think about $10 should do it per entree. The pork noodles soup is very good too. As there are many Chinese restaurants in Chicago, and most are probably not worth venturing out of your neighborhood to go to, I will gladly make the commute from Lakeview over to this place on Lawrence because it's just that good. read more

Our party of 5 was seated right away, our Korean female server was friendly and spoke fluent English, service was prompt, food came out quickly, and the portions were huge. maybe it's nostalgia speaking, but I love this place i used to come here 15 years ago with my family, when I was still in grade school. The fact that it's been around for that long I think says something about the quality of food at this establishment. This was back when there were actually Koreans in Korea town. And I don't mean to say that begrudgingly, Koreans don't typically like the city too much; the burbs is where they would rather be, and typically are located, currently. This restaurant is a new old fave! I revisited it because my husband loves noodles!! It's also known in Korean as Asawon and has unique Chinese-Korean dishes such as Cha-chiang-mein, Cham-pong, Na-jo-mein, Gam-poong-ki. The noodles are house made and from the first bite you'd think you were in Seoul. My hubby eats the Cha-chiang-mein in such a frenzy that he has to tuck the napkin in his shirt to protect from all the spraying black bean sauce. The portions are large and prices inexpensive. I can't say much about the traditional Chinese menu thus the 4 star rating. You gotta go for the noodles! The decor...what can I say, it's like a diner--right down to the booth seating and the twirling stools at the bar--converted into a Chinese restaurant. I came here on a snowy day to have my first Korean-Chinese meal. I liked the interior of the restaurant a lot; it seemed like little had changed from when it first opened. On the tip of my friend, I ordered jajangmyeon and we split a bean curd soup. Don't forget to add the bean curd from the small dish to your broth! The jajangmyeon was a very rich, yet delicious dish. The portion was very large, and could easily feed two people. Service is not exactly attentive, but they get the job done.
