Pelato was an incredible restaurant. Our waitress was fantastic, and we loved the tapas-style approach to Italian dining -- it let us sample several dishes instead of committing to just one entrée, which made the whole experience fun and memorable. Every dish we tried was delicious, and by the end of the meal, we were absolutely stuffed. Compared to some of the other restaurants we tried in Nashville that weekend, Pelato struck the perfect balance of quality and value. It wasn't the most expensive meal, but it easily ranked among the most enjoyable. The concept reminded us a lot of one of our favorite spots back home in Dallas, Il Bracco -- approachable, vibrant, and full of flavor -- yet casual enough that you could eat there a couple of times a month. We also appreciated that it got us out of the downtown Four Seasons area and into another neighborhood, giving us a chance to explore a different side of Nashville. It's clear this place is doing something special. I learned they have a sister restaurant with a similar concept, and I'd absolutely try it next time we're in town. If I could give Pelato more than five stars, I would. This spot is a total standout in Nashville. As someone who eats gluten-free, I'm usually skeptical about pasta restaurants--but Pelato completely blew me away. Their homemade gluten-free pasta is truly the best I've ever had. Perfect texture, rich flavor, and paired with sauces that taste like they came straight out of a kitchen in Italy. We ordered a variety of dishes and everything hit. The creamy red sauce pasta was silky and comforting, and the pesto orecchiette had layers of flavor with every bite. But the charred broccolini was something special--smoky, tender, and sitting in the most addictive spiced oil. I'm still thinking about it. The crispy polenta with whipped ricotta was golden perfection, and the burrata with heirloom tomatoes was fresh, creamy, and beautifully balanced. The cocktails were just as well done--dirty martini, espresso martini, and an Old Fashioned, all made with care and balance. What truly made the experience unforgettable was our server, David C. It was our first time in Nashville, and he made us feel genuinely welcomed. Not only was he incredibly knowledgeable and attentive, but he went above and beyond to share local recommendations for things to do around the city. The pasta was amazing, the special of the sheet of ravioli was one of my favorites, all the apps we got (broccoli, zucchini, burrata) were all nice. My only feedback is very niche. It's the chairs. We had four women at our table. The rounded chairs made it so you couldn't hang your purse on the chair. There were no hooks under the table. So your options were to put your purse on the floor, on your lap, or behind your back which isn't ideal. read more

This spot has been on my must try list for a while. It was packed. I'm happy to report that the food did not disappoint: -- To celebrate their one year anniversary they gave each table fresh mozzarella (gf) on the house. This was so good omg. Lol. -- Pelato Salad was excellent. It does have giant gigante beans in it though, so if you don't like beans, just a heads up. -- Gluten-Free Spicy Radiatori Vodka (gf) Pasta was really, really good. As someone who is gluten free, it is so hard to order pasta out and have an option other than gluten free penne. I was thrilled that this was not penne and the quality was incredible. Get it. -- For dessert we had the Peach Melba (gf), which was a nice light summery parfait. The cream was so good. The curd is a little tart but it balanced the cream out. The Cloud (gf) was a really good rice pudding. I liked this the best. My cousin had the torta all'ananas which I was caramelized upside down pineapple cake with vanilla gelato. She enjoyed it. The issue we had with our dinner was the service. Once our food came we were never checked on again. The waitress was paying a lot of attention to the table next to us, which is great, but not when you don't come back for our entire meal and only do because we have to flag you down to ask for the bill and some boxes. We never got to order additional drinks and had no clue there was a dessert menu until the manager that I asked for came to the table. He was incredibly apologetic & comped our desserts. We were unfortunately disappointed in this restaurant. Was very excited to try as the menu sounded fantastic. We went during brunch & while our waitress was friendly and helpful, I don't have a ton of other positives to report. The restaurant feels a bit like a basic Italian deli or pizza place inside, I don't find the ambience to be great at all. The waitress made sure to explain at the beginning how small their portions are (must be a pain point if she's hitting on that right off the bat). Anyways, that's totally cool- Italian tapas style, ok got it. We ordered the burrata caprese & the meatballs to start. We were a bit let down when the caprese came out and it was just thinly sliced tomato with tiny pieces of burrata on top. We had been expecting a lovely ball of homemade burrata on top of tomato's- the tomato's were seasoned well and fresh but you really lose the main part of the dish here. The meatballs...were not good at all. Thinking back, we really should have sent them back because they were insanely overcooked. You could tell they had either sat out under a heat lamp or broiler for too long. The red sauce had turned burgundy all on the edges. We couldn't cut them right off the bat with a butter knife and I knew it would be bad. Sauce was insanely over salted as well (more on salt use later). We then had chicken parm, burnt broccolini and the radiatori vodka pasta. The chicken parm was super lackluster and soggy as others have mentioned. The broccolini were delicious, though. When the vodka pasta came out at the end, I was so excited to try. But again, so let down. It was so salty we really didn't even want to finish it. The flavor was there for sure but I'm not sure why the chefs here are oversalting everything to this extent. Btw; when they tell you they are small portions, believe them. Everything was incredibly tiny portions. If you are a group of 4 or more, you have to order multiples of things or you won't have enough to share. The vodka pasta didn't even fill the bottom of the plate, and was laid flat. Consensus? I don't recommend. read more

When we saw you advertised Pelato as a "Brooklyn experience" - that's what we hoped for. Not the case. But on a side note, thank you for the Birthday wishes. --------- Review coming from someone born and raised in Brooklyn/NYC - Definitely nothing like Brooklyn Italian and not even close. Place was empty for Brunch and yet we felt rushed. Waiter stuck a birthday candle in my face as I was still chewing my lunch. This was also after he asked if we wanted dessert while we were midway through our lunch. Biggest turn off is that the candle was put in a napkin. The least they could've done is give a small complimentary treat + candle with the amount they charge for this "tapas" style dining. Food is average and expensive for what you get - a small piece of chicken cutlet with no pasta for $22 (again def not Brooklyn Italian). Charging entree prices for appetizers - I don't recommend this place. Pelato is just a whole MOOD. This was my first time eating here and it was a lot of fun - great drinks, super cool (and massive) spot, excellent service. We grabbed a Reposado Espresso Martini at the bar while we waited for the rest of our party -- it was AMAZING. Our bartender was funny, had some good recommendations for our dinner, and made a mean drink. Our table was in the back and down the stairs and it was a fun space. I liked that they had the patio, "upstairs" and "downstairs" for different dining experiences. Was there tonight for the first time. Great food and service. Power went out which I know is out of control. Did limit service and items that didn't surface server was great in the situation and obviously she was losing money as tables weren't being flipped. Pelato lives up to its reputation in many ways! The food and drinks are truly delicious! Our favorites were easily the crispy zucchini, aranchini, and the pesto! The zucchini was well seasoned & crispy on the inside and out. It didn't come with a sauce, which was fine as it truly didn't need it! The aranchini were creamy on the inside and crisp on the outside. We would return again just to have these. The pesto is a little funky with some peas floating around, but they left just the right crunch and fresh taste in your mouth. We liked but didn't love the dessert as the budino looked like it was made that morning and just uncovered & brought out to the table. Although I don't expect this to be made to order, the cream on top felt flat and made it a little less than desirable. The chicken Parmesan is the only thing I would recommend NOT to get. The cost per the portion is somewhat comical, even in Nashville. It was good but not great and I think stomach space should be saved for other items. I adore this Italian restaurant! The Radiatore Vodka is to die for! My girlfriend and I have been twice and we've enjoyed everything! So I wanted to start off and say that our service was amazing! Our waitress was very nice and gave great recommendations. My only problem was that in the beginning my party was asked if we wanted sparkling or still water. After making our choice I learned that those water was $7/each. I was shocked!! The server was so patient and kind in giving us recommendations, even while she was training a new hire. I feel like we truly got a sample of EVERYTHING on the menu, but here were some of my favorites that stood out. - Frozen espresso martini (obviously) - Crispy zucchini strings - Vodka pasta Other honorable mentions were the garlic potatoes and potato croquettes. I like the idea but the method didn't add up. Tough to mix and match. It's Italian and because it's pasta they should've done a selection of sauces where you could try different types on a pasta of your choice. There should also be extra plates on the table so as to share. We ordered lots of apps, some were delicious especially loved the broccolini, but no bread was ever put on the table. I've never been to an Italian restaurant where bread wasn't made available. Drinks were good but not really impressed with the menu. Checkin was fast, friendly and courteous. The atmosphere was energetic but not so much that we couldn't carry on a conversation. Our server, Alex, arrived quickly and was spot-on in her suggestions and assistance with our order, in fact, we let her order for us and every item was excellent. Our waiter rushed us to order everything at once and rarely checked on us--my fiancé practically had to stare him down just to get our empty drinks refilled. I ordered three vodka sodas and aside from being blatantly overcharged for top-shelf liquor, I couldn't even taste the alcohol. To top it off, we were shoved into a cramped corner table so close to the furniture behind me that my chair kept hitting it. That table should absolutely be removed. After a long day of traveling and delayed flights, we arrived at Pelato much later than planned, just 15 minutes before the kitchen closed. Despite the late hour, the staff was incredibly accommodating and made us feel welcome. Natalie, our waitress, was a standout--attentive, friendly, and never made us feel rushed. Decorated still with Christmas decorations - warm and inviting! Bottle of Pinot Noir Stemmeri went well with the food and super smooth. We also had espresso martinis for dessert - highly recommend! We started with the Burnt Broccolini, Crispy Garlic Potatoes which was an absolute hit (10/10)--perfectly charred with great flavor. The Stuffed Mushrooms were good but didn't stand out as much compared to the rest of the meal (6/10). For mains, the Radiatori Vodka was phenomenal (10/10)--perfectly cooked pasta with a rich, creamy sauce. The Pelato Ravioli stole the show (11/10)--hands down the best dish of the night, bursting with flavor in every bite. We also tried two calamari dishes: the Stuffed Calamari (9/10), which was tender and well-seasoned, and the Brooklyn Style Calamari (10/10), a perfectly crispy and flavorful take on the classic. While our food photos didn't do the dishes justice, the flavors absolutely did. Pelato exceeded our expectations with their amazing food and hospitality.
