I managed to eat vegan, (lots of sides), food took forever to deliver (over an hour but then we were a group of 12). Mostly fish, fried foods. They have home made salad dressings and serve wedges. According to consensus, food was okay. Scallops were not worth the price, not sure anything was but the sides. The staff at the Pelican Bend made me feel right at home. Our waiter, Captain Mike Cooper, suggested the sautéed fish special. Taking his advice was an excellent choice and I highly recommend the dish with a lettuce wedge and the house dressing: a creamy garlic. Started off with a cup of chowder and finished with a slice of ice cold key lime pie. This place has a very casual and welcoming vibe that my whole family enjoyed. 5 stars for food, service, and atmosphere. Yum yum YUM! Excellent food. excellent service! I had the pleasure of eating here for dinner while on a family vacation on Marco Island. My dad's girlfriend had the place recommended to her by a client and we decided to check it out. I'll start with the food: We decided to share the seafood chowder and a dinner-for-two sampler as appetizers. The seafood chowder was the BEST I have ever had (you can see the picture of the huge chunks of fish in the picture I posted to yelp) creamy, perfectly seasoned, and very meaty. The seafood platter was excellent, although it's hard to mess up fried anything. We got the oysters, clams, shrimp, and scallops. All was excellent, except I would've liked larger pieces of clam... made it seem like it wasn't fresh caught, but bought frozen from Costco.. not sure if this is true, but I've had clams at many places on the Gulf, and the clams were always huge chunks of meat. For dinner we went with what was recommended to us by the waiter.. the Catch of the Day. Lightly breaded and pan-fried to perfection, it was fabulous. It came with sides so we ordered the veggie and sweet potato (both excellent, but I usually prefer my zucchini al dente, this was a little on the soggy side.) Also came with a salad or cole slaw, so we tried both and the house dressing was excellent! For dessert we split the key lime pie.. OH MY GOD so fresh and tasty! We got a peanut butter pie to go as well, and I've got it waiting in my refrigerator to enjoy tonight. The reasons why this did not get 5 stars: 1) We couldn't eat dinner outside.. only for drinks and lunch. 2) They don't serve liquor.. at least not inside. Beer and wine only. I was hoping for a cocktail... 3) The clams could've been "fresher" or at least bigger and meatier to look fresher. Was here yesterday for lunch with friends who liked it here. It's a family run establishment. Has views of the water but the not so clear plastic around the restaurant makes you look away from it. Not exciting. I think my kitchen/living room is the size of the place. LAURIE our server was great. I couldn't take a picture of my friends broiled GREUBEN sandwich. Not appetizing looking. It's not a grouper done Reuben style but another kind of whitefish. My wife has the Lobster Melt (pictured) Not Lobster the way we all know it. Didn't say "Maine" Lobster, more like what can be called in Florida, chicken lobster? Not a great taste, don't even know if it was real lobster! Skip the CHOWDER. The restaurant was a little understaffed. No one was at the front register when we walked in. The restaurant is pretty dark inside. Our sides came out first (coleslaw and lettuce wedge) but our main entrees/sides took over 45 minutes to come. My sister wasn't a fan of any of the sauces offered with the calamari or the calamari itself. They didn't have regular marinara sauce. The fish of the day, roughy, was very bad. We accept some of the fault for not knowing our fish well but roughy has a very weird consistency and is tasteless. The sauteed red snapper was very good and the french fries were also very good. This used to be one of our favorite spots to eat..... as a matter of fact we would frequent 2-4 times a week. The sautéed fish is just a favorite of ours and we would always share this flavor with friends and family as a local treat. Something is much different now..... either the place is under new ownership or the people just no longer care. The last 6 visits have been horrible experiences. You wait 20 minutes at your table before being greeted for a drink order and the servers are all just rude. They are not the same people we have learned to love over the past 6 years. The portions are reduced and the overall experience just sucks. It's sad because this used to be a great place to enjoy. Nobody seems to care any longer. #disappointed read more

My wife and was looking forward to returning to Pelican Bay to celebrate my birthday. We have been there several times in the past and enjoyed the food. We both ordered their signature fish dishes, that we have ordered in the past. After waiting for forty min. for our meals, we questioned our waiter why it was taking so long. He explained that they couldn't fire up the broiler( like it was her problem for ordering the broiled fish)! When she finally got her meal it was lukewarm at best. Went here last night with my parents. When we checked in we were told about a 30 minute wait. We waited an 90 minutes before leaving. Hostess was a little rude. When my dad asked her how much longer she replied "Well there's only three of you". Really? Most of the people waiting were in groups of 4 or more. They got seated long before us.Then she complained to us that nobody would leave so she couldn't move the tables along, "I can't make them leave". I personally was not impressed with the menu but was going to get the coconut shrimp. Very disappointing experience. read more

I like it. I've been to the Capri Fish House, it's good, and the Gypsy...you want rude servers give it a try. This little place is just nice. I love the unpretentious atmosphere. And their mascot Bella is adorable, shy but available for clean up if you drop a tidbit. I haven't been inside, I can only tell you about the waterfront. The bar tends were very nice, we just made it in time for a bite to eat as they stop serving 3-5, and they were happy to serve us. First time waited an hour for a table at 730 pm and then nearly 45 minutes for food. I feel like the vibe is a cute, quaint little marina restaurant. They also offer outside seating close by the marina. The waiters were all very nice and you feel like they really enjoy their jobs. Afterwards we went outback to the outdoor area to find a much less drab decor, I thought it was a completely different restaurant. The food was not good.. Gordon Ramsey would have a fit. This used to be a five star restaurant - but NO longer. I discovered this place in 1989 and have been bringing my family here ever since. They used to brag the only fish they sold was Grouper. No more frozen grouper. My wife ordered what they now serve what they call "White Roughy" which is actually not roughy, but is a farm raised Frozen catfish from Asia. Come on! I ordered the sauteed shrimp, my mother in law the friend oyster both could have been bought at Costco which they served up for $75. At least the key lime pie was still tasty. If you had a mental image of an authentic-Florida, rustic place to eat on the waterfront in southwest Florida, Pelican Bend would be it. Excellent casual seafood dining on the water. You can dine indoors or out. Outdoors includes outdoors along the dock with or without umbrellas to shade you and indoors under a thatched roof bar decorated with hundreds of license plates. Everybody is friendly. The food is fried seafood served really hot, some broiled seafood or seafood with sauces, burgers-chicken, as well as a raw bar. If you've overdosed on onion rings lately, the Bloomin' Onion is a better option, with more onion and a lot less breading. Your cardiologist does't want you going there daily but certainly a week's vacation can handle Pelican Bend a couple times. It's almost as if the owners let the place run down ever so slightly to make it appear rustic or raffish and then hermitcally sealed the processs so nobody's wife, girlfriend, or mother-in-law would complain about it being unkempt. But it's not sanitized Disneyworld-Florida rustic. There's a marina along the waterway (waterway not the gulf, which is a couple hundred yards west) and neighbors includes boat yards and a restaurant. While the address is Naples, it's really just north of Marco Island off Collier Blvd. We've been going there off and on for a decade and always enjoyed the combination of the food and the location. Critics who say the wait is too long, that's possible but in 8-10 visits we've waited only once or twice for a couple minutes and most of our visits are doing Christmas-New year's week. As for the quality and provenance of the fish, there's concern everywhere that if a certain fish gets overfished somewhere along the supply line, there's a chance something else gets substituted in. I am pretty certain that the fried oysters/fried shrimp combo basket was not catfish or pollock. I can't recall if my wife's fried fish claimed to be a certain type or if it was just "fried fish basket." Whatever it was, it tasted pretty good. I am confident the Corona was Corona. read more

Loved this place. We came here after walking out at the Gypsy place just down the street. I'm not a fancy or high maintenance kind of person and from the outside I wasn't sure what to expect here. It turned out to be pretty casual. It seems to be family run which is always a plus for me. If I had to guess I would say the "bus boy" is a daughter/grand daughter of the owners, the hostess is probably an owner, and I think one of the waiters was probably an owner. They all couldn't have been nicer. My water glass never got below half full, an empty plate never sat on the table for more than a few seconds, and someone was nearby to attend to any need within seconds. The portions were huge and we tried to empty our plates the best we could but couldn't make it happen. The menu was good and they served some of the best hush puppies I've ever had. Any person that doesn't think this place is a 5/5 isn't getting the right meal. My family has a place down in Marco and they took us here and I would have to say it is easily the best fish I have EVER EVER had!!! The sauteed Snapper is worth it. For $17 you get the biggest piece of fish you will ever find at a restaurant, the salad wedge with the amazing house dressing (prefer!), and a side (go with the sweet potato!). Our waiter was amazing, he was funny and knew everything about the restaurant. In the 3 days I was in Marco this meal was easily the best and we went to the other two restaurants that were known as the "best" in the area. If you are in the Marco area you MUST stop in. We ate here on a whim after getting a recommendation for the place next to it. I'm glad we called an audible because this place is excellent. We were eating early, so there was a bit of a wait as the older locals filed in for dinner. However, it was conveniently timed with their happy hour in the bar out back sitting in the harbor, so we didn't mind the wait! We didn't have to wait long to get seated and the staff was very friendly. You could tell they took a lot of pride in their food, most being part of the family that runs the establishment. Pretty disappointing experience after reading the reviews. My wife and I recently dined at Pelican Bend on a family vacation to the Isles of Capri. The actual restaurant is in pretty bad shape......desperately in need of a renovation with its 90's decor. My biggest complaint by far was the service. When we walked in the door the hostess was extremely rude. She didn't even bother walking us to our table, rather grunting and pointing toward the empty table that she was expecting us to occupy. Our server seemed like a nice enough guy, but was definitely hard of hearing and was a little slow in taking our order and removing plates after we had done. The food itself was extremely mediocre. My wife had the sauteed house fish (which according to our server 90% of the people order......a quick glance around the restaurant confirmed otherwise). It was absolutely soaked in butter to the point that she felt sick. The upside was that the portion was huge. I had a fried seafood platter, which was not memorable (and frankly, regrettable a few hours later). The seafood kinda looked like something that had been previously frozen. If they were making it fresh the batter was completely unseasoned and bland. Again huge portion though. Even though we were stuffed we ordered their "famous" key lime pie, which would have been fine if it wasn't partly frozen. So we waited a few minutes for it to thaw and it was fine.....above average I would say on that. This place is perpetually packed, and I think its simply because its relatively cheap (both of our entrees were under $20) and the portions were huge. Obviously for a lot of people in this country that is as good as it gets. For my money we would go back to Capri Fish House (yes, it's more expensive but frankly the food is a lot better) or Island Gypsy (probably the best all around of the three). But as a family run restaurant the first thing they have to do is get their staff in line.....no room for rude people in a service industry. read more

Finding a table was no problem, it was out of the way a little bit and this is a local only spot from what I can tell. Don't expect much when you walk in and the bar area outside isn't really anything to write home about. You want to come in, grab some food and the people working there are all really nice. That is all we wanted that evening. I'm glad we were dressed down after a long day of work because I'm not sure they would have let us in if we were dressed any nicer. Have never been here and was looking forward to dinner with my girlfriend who was in town and her daughter and friend. When arrived was told an hour wait. After 70 minutes went inside to see how much longer. After asking hostess about the time, my friend stated we had been there since 6:15, now 7:40. Hostess kind of humpffed and said "Well, I don't know about that" indicating she didn't believe my friend. There were still 7 tables in front of us before our turn. She truly acted like she couldn't care less with a totally nonchalant attitude. Did not even apologize for her extremely poor lack of judgement for wait times. We heard several other patrons comment about the wait time with one saying, "they certainly didn't get that right they should have been more honest about the time". The hostess was basically just saying an hour to all even though a much longer wait. Another couple two table wait behind us, so 9 table wait, had already been there an hour. The husband walked next door the the other restaurant called his wife and said no wait at all. So we followed suit. And we were so pleased with the other restaurant. I perfectly understand it is season, I live here yearly and trust me I get it. However, as a hostess your jobs is to take the names, assess the dining room and it's movement of patrons and provide a fairly accurate time frame to those waiting. You interact positively and politely with your potential patrons and act like you care. Her attitude essentially left us with a sour taste. People have said the food is good here, but I guess I won't know at least not for a while. Personally I preferred the atmosphere of CFH next door and the friendliness and accommodating staff. To the young hostess there, my suggestion to you is to become more efficient and proficient in providing wait times, put a smile on your face and act like you care about your customers. read more

Our large group of 9 thoroughly enjoyed dinner here. Very family friendly and fast service. Smiling faces all around. Make sure you try the house special, sautéed fish in lemon butter. Lightly dredged in flour and cooked to a golden brown. Deep-fried scallops were also lightly breaded and moist and sweet. I had the coconut shrimp which was also lightly breaded and slightly sweet with a nice Citrus coconut dipping sauce. 12 large shrimp. The House wedge salad with homemade garlic parmesean dressing, was simple iceberg lettuce . House made peanut butter pie was a big hit. Even came back a day later to take some home. This is a popular place and one must prepare themselves to wait a while for a table. We chose Ash Wednesday to eat at a fish restaurant - one of their busiest days. So... wait we did, 1 + hours, in the back bar building, hunkered down at a table beneath a heater. And I have to say, it was worth it. The salad with thousand island dressing was stupendous, so crisp and fresh-not one brown spot on the lettuce. The homemade dressing perfectly prepared and plentiful. I ordered the fried chicken which was good-maybe a tad overcooked but not dry just a bit too crunchy. The others had the fish sandwich and sautéed white fish and they devoured theirs with gusto. The key lime pie was extremely tasty. Semi frozen with a buttery graham crust. Our server was so friendly and honest about the wait that he just put you in a relaxed state so you could enjoy your meal.
