A few patrons came in and out for beers to-go, a few stayed to enjoy beers on-site like us. I quite liked the quiet evening so we could fully soak in the goodness of de Garde beer, the warm atmosphere, and have time to chat with the friendly bartender on shift. We had a few beers on the patio to enjoy the cool coastal air, then moved inside for our next round. We enjoyed sitting in both areas. While all of their beer is phenomenal to us, the stand outs for me were The Purple: Gin Barrel Cuvee and The Renrocha. Although we were flying in from out of State, we took 3 bottles home with us so we could continue savoring the well-crafted beers of de Garde! Can't wait to come back!

To be honest I tried two attempts here to get their beer and both times were fails. The address associated with their Yelp entry here seems to be at the owner's house. And they indeed did have a small taproom here going off of the Yelp pictures. People really liked the beers from the other reviews and the concept definitely caught our attention (ahem) but when we got there and within operating hours of the taproom everything was closed up tighter than a drum. We wanted to make another attempt to try their beer at a later time and when we did it looked like they moved to downtown Hillsboro. We'll we made it there, Steve and I and went in the door only to be told they were closed BUT the owner didn't turn us away and so we had a can of cider. They were doing a remodel and we figured we would make yet another attempt in a few months to try their beer since none was available during the particular time the remodel was taking place and when we arrived. I made a third attempt only to find out the old BDSM sign was taken down and smoked meats and cold beer were sold at the location we were at months before. All of these changes must have been recent and swift because the third attempt was a week ago and Google had the business in the search as still being open and they had an active Facebook page. The Facebook page and has since vanished in a week's time and the Google result says they are permanently closed. They still have their own website up but I wouldn't imagine that is very useful at this point and time. Too bad. A few missed opportunities here without a full on beer experience with what they brewed.

While I usually go for the Dubbel or the Grand Cru, this time I had the Imperial Stout and greatly enjoyed it. Also enjoyed another terrific Mazama burger. What struck me on day one and what continues to be true all these years later is the Excellence they demonstrate in everything they do. The beers are creative and first rate and are part of a long tradition. The food far exceeds typical pub fare. I usually have to trek to downtown PDX to find pub food of this quality. I greatly enjoy the Mazama burger. The Bavarian Pretzel is amazing. And the Donut Holes are terrific. They have a great menu full of small plates and entrees. I have my work cut out for me! They have a terrific modern space with plenty of tables (great for large groups) as well as a loungy area, a great bar, a window bar, and a terrific outside patio looking over the Jerry Willey plaza. Service has always been exceptional - considerate, kind, and personable. I'm grateful to be able to walk to such a great place. My experiences have been that the employee at the register has always been patient, informative and respectful. They bring your order to your table when it is ready. My experience is that they give you a conservative estimate of the time for preparing and the real time has been shorter. Note that I think they do a good job with turnaround times given how many customers are in the restaurant combined with their apparent significant take-out business. My dinner experiences have been very satisfying and that is what one would expect from a meat purveyor. However, they do not fumble the ball on the execution. Casual food, but tasty. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating: plenty of both. Part of the outside seating is heated and covered during much of the year.
