The Pelican is a true antidote to all of the tourist traps and rip offs on Ocean Drive. It's been that way for more than two decades and it's amazing how it's remained the same but somehow doesn't feel outdated. It's just quality Italian food in a nice setting with a friendly staff. Salmon gnocchi, fried calamari, and a Italian style Nicoise-type salad all satisfied with good portions and tasty cuisine. Its the only place I'd go on Ocean Drive. read more

We were pleasantly surprised with our experience at Pelican Cafe. Our aunt, who was in town visiting before her Caribbean cruise, wanted a quintessential tourist dining experience. What could be more touristy than those restaurants facing the beach on Ocean Drive? I asked a MAC employee what her favorite restaurant was and she recommended Pelican Cafe between 8th and 9th street. They quickly seated our party of seven (half of us were seated inside the restaurant and half of us were technically on the upper deck of the patio). We enjoyed this seating arrangement because we all got some of the cool air conditioning from indoors while still feeling like we were on the people watching patio. Everyone liked their dishes. I tried a little bit of everything and shared two entrées. The Tagliatelle Bolognese $19 was perfectly saucy and comforting. At $17, the Chicken Caeser Salad looked pretty basic and not that exciting, but I wasn't the one eating it. I enjoyed the prosciutto pizza $18 and tuna tartare $19. Two people shared the Skinny Girl dish $42 which included a variety of fun appetizers that weren't too heavy on the stomach. While the dishes are somewhat straightforward in their preparation (no fun surprises or unique flair to the food) and pricey, we weren't disappointed with the portion sizes of the food. The most impressive dish to me was the Kid's Burger, $7. They presented this dish to the toddler in our group and I thought for sure that they had brought out the wrong burger - possibly the adult burger. The large looking burger was presented in a really cute pan with a nice amount of French fries. The toddler ate all of the burger minus some crispy fries we all sampled. The server's assistant reassured me that it was the $7 Kid's burger and indeed it was when the bill came. The server was very accommodating, sweet, and deserving of the 19% automatic service charge. read more

Visiting in South beach, I've stumbled upon Pelican Restcafe. It wasn't as crowded as other places are on the strip of Ocean drive. The hostesses were friendly and sweet. The outdoor seating and indoor seating had a nice ambience touch. Stylish decor. Pillows on the seats for comfort. The customer service was impeccable. I was seated in the outdoor seating area. Steps away from the beach. Facing ocean drive. For dinner I had ordered a Bruschetta appetizer and Alaskan King Salmon. The bruschetta came with 4 pieces of toasts. It was perfectly cooked toasted right with a nice crunch. It wasn't soggy. First bite, you taste the crunch and in the middle of the toast it was fresh and soft. For a party of 1, I had eaten only 2. I couldn't finish all that. The Alaskan King Salmon paired with asparagus and mixed salad. Soon as I took my first bite, the flavors were lemon and buttery. Can't go wrong with lemon butter! The king salmon grilled cooked to perfection. The skin wasn't soft. It had its slight crunch. I can't get over the flavors! It was so banging. Those flavors were married together. You know when your palates are dancing you are having a good food orgasm in your mouth. Most places can't cook a good salmon. It's either over or under cooked. But for this meal I had! Wonderful cafe. Last at South Beach, we dined here three times. Heartily disagree that all restaurants on Ocean are the same. Not all restaurants have bread baked on the premises, home made pasta and an exceptional award winning wine list. The bottle of Bruno Paillard we had was perfect as was our dinner of Pecorino Toscano with Honey and Fruit, Foie Gras en Brioche and Truffle Glazed Short Ribs. Starving after partying all night at Pearl and Nikki Beach, we stopped again at the PC for their delicious coffee and phenomenal French Toast. I cannot abide bad coffee or bland plasticky food after a night out. Clubbing makes for a big appetite and the Pelican Cafe does not disappoint. I dream of their French Toast. Crisp on the outside, eggy and custardy on the bite topped with wild blueberries and raspberries. For lunch, my mister had the Pizza Al Prosciutto; thin, crisp crust with semolina and layers of Parma. Delicious. I had the spectacular "Chef's Salad"- unlike any I've ever had- served in carved avocado shells, filled with crab, fresh corn, avocado, and shrimp. Cool and very refreshing. Michele Merlo was there every day to supervise first hand and his efforts show. The cafe is a comfortable place to relax and enjoy a well mixed cocktail and any one of the the thoughtfully prepared menu choices. read more

I went to this restaurant while in Florida on the Miami Beach strip for a wedding party. They were very accommodating of our large party. I had the lobster shrimp ravioli. I was disappointed as it lacked flavor in the actual filling and ravioli pasta. The presentation was nice and the red ravioli was a dope concept. Our host had a difficult time of getting our bill to our table after multiple requests which frustrates our group. It's an average place, but maybe we caught them on a bad day. read more

Whether you're staying at this hotel or just looking into this restaurant, I highly recommend it. It's a vibe here. There's music playing at all times and they're menus have everything from breakfast to dinner. Disclaimer: they're not so cheap but they do have good tasting food. I would recommend they make a lunch menu rather than having the entire menu throughout the day but it's not my place lol I actually stayed at this hotel as well and can tell you that the breakfast included, while not many options is a perfect amenity you won't regret on south beach. Sitting outdoors allows you to people watch, eat, flirt, and drink all from this one central location. Great place for Miami signature mojitos, sangria, and anything with rum. They even had these drinks served in jugs (at least 25 oz). Too much for me, but folks were ordering them like Slurpees. I had this chicken dish with wild rice, smothered in mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes. If we had more time I would have come back and ate here again for lunch. You know Miami hustles hard when it comes to getting patrons to sit down and eat on the strip. We ordered 2 drinks but our waitress (Helen) very rudely explained that each person has to order one, and then gets 2nd drink free. Haha, so funny and rude. She was also standing right next to us the whole time! So I gave my drink away and we split the first drink, and then split the 2nd drink. Like - whats the point?! We ordered salad that was very expensive and small. There were only few bites of chicken. It tasted ok but nothing excellent. We won't come back. Prices: High. We had a glass of Bellini ($12 and way too sweet!), Rose wine ($10 each) and salad ($14.50) and ended up paying $50. Too expensive. The music was too loud. read more

I see that if I had yelped this place before going, I surely wouldn't have sat down to eat. I didn't have a bad experience though. My group was walking down Ocean Drive looking for a place to eat and a staff member approached us with 2 for 1 drinks and 20% off of food. Of course we thought that was a good idea and since it was an even number of us there we could pair up and split the cost of one drink. Win right? Sure. First off the drinks were huge!! We should've specified the size that we wanted first, our mistake. It literally took us the entire time we were there to try and finish our drinks. Fortunately we randomly saw some folks we knew and gave them a couple of sips. Not to mention the waitress also gave us a free round of tequila shots. For food I decided to go with the Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus and it was delicious. We were all full by the time checks came around so we skipped desert. The 20% off was almost not even worth it because the gratuity was an automatic 20%. Overall, I'd probably come back here if I couldn't find another place. Great bar tenders, the rest of the wait staff was hit or miss, mostly miss unfortunately. We stayed at the hotel so breakfast was included as well as 2 complimentary cocktails per guest every day 4 - 6pm. We sat at the bar often because the service was better and more consistent. The cocktails are not watered down and the liquor was good. They make the giant frozen drinks with two beers sticking out of it but I didn't order that. It's just not my preference. The appetizers are good but when it comes to breskfast for some reason this kitchen struggles to cook eggs. Overall good experience and good food. We will return. read more

There are so many places in Miami to eat breakfast and people watch, especially on Ocean Dr. For me, Pelican doesn't really stand out for me as THE place to go which is why I'm givin it 3 stars. Well, this girl was not too pushy and we started with 2 for 1- 16 oz. Mojitos, which turned out to be the best we ever had!!! The Skinny Girl was an assortment of shrimp, crab and tuna and so fresh and fab! Also had Shrimp Alfredo which had a delicious rich sauce. I had linguini with clam sauce which was also good. Our waiter, Miguel was terrific. We convinced another couple to eat there as they hesitated and ended up with more Mojitos for dessert!! "Larios On The Beach" next door wasn't offering 2 for 1 but a MUST see interior with turquoise and silver beaded columns and walls with embedded sea shells. This is a must eat! read more

We stopped in here for a late lunch. It is a little further down on the South Beach strip. They caught our attention with their organic menu. My husband and I both had rare ahi tuna salad's. The fish was very fresh, we had the shrimp cocktail which was OK, and the drinks were good. We had a fantastic server, who took great care of us. Our server was an older friendly gentleman who was knowledgeable about the menu and what to recommend. We ordered the surf & turf, seafood platter, NY strip, & fried platter. Everything was cooked as requested! No complaints. Steaks were cooked perfectly. They give you a shit load of food!!! It's a bit pricey, but hey you're on the strip of Miami. I expected crazy prices. They did offer a 20% discount for each entree so it was a plus! The server went above and beyond for my hubby too.
