We were initially seated squeezed between two tables even though there were plenty of other empty tables, so we had to request a move to escape the loud banter from the soju-drinking crowd. Hands down the best Korean fried chicken I've ever had in NJ! I always go for the sweet and spicy level 1 crispy fried wings and they've never let me down. The chicken itself is so juicy and plentiful in meat. The sauce is so rich in flavor and the chicken always comes out fresh and perfectly crispy. Even if it's smothered in sauce, the batter doesn't get soggy. It also comes with sides of daikon radish and corn coleslaw. They're both very refreshing alongside some fried goodness! I've also tried their truffle fries, bulgogi nachos, and soju. The truffle fries are pretty good flavor-wise, but they're a bit pricy and sometimes on the soggy side. The amount of bulgogi they add to the nachos is really generous! I just wish they'd add more of a Korean flavor to it instead of it just being tortilla chips with regular nacho toppings plus bulgogi. I love places that have this because it's more convenient for both the patrons and staff to acknowledge us when we're ready. A friend and I both had a craving for tasty drinks and Korean fried chicken and we both didn't mind eating indoors, so we decided to venture North to Palisades. When we got there, we were met with a 30-minute wait so we left but were called in less than 10 minutes that a table opened up! We were sat at a small table with black shield type walls around us. We actually thought they were cool - of course because they minimize risk, but also because it gave us some privacy. Unfortunately, they had no liquor or bottled drinks except for Kloud, a Korean beer (which was actually pretty tasty and refreshing) so we were bummed because the drinks on the menu looked awesome, but even more reason to visit in the future. Wes, our waiter, was awesome- first of all, he was so patient with all of our questions. We were a little overwhelmed by the menu and his suggestions helped a lot. While waiting for our food, he brought us honey butter chips as an apology for not having drinks, which was super nice. He also brought me a chair to put my bag on because I didn't have a place to put it so I put it on the floor. On our drive over, we knew we had to get corn cheese and so we split that as an appetizer and it was SO GOOD. If you love corn and you love cheese, this is for you. The too had a nice char but it didn't taste burnt. There was so much cheese that it was slightly oily but we didn't mind. Sometimes cheese can be bland but it was really flavorful and it also seemed sweet - I've heard sugar is put into this dish normally so that would explain it. It would've been great if we dipped our fries in it, looking back... My friend ordered crispy honey garlic bone in wings with the spicy batter and a side of fries, and I got spicy soy sauce boneless wings (which were basically chicken strips) with fries and spicy bbq and garlic dipping sauces. My friend's wings were tasty - the sauce wasn't too sticky and had great flavor. I would say this is closer to Korean fried chicken I've had in the past but less spicy. I enjoyed my chicken strips and the sauces were very good. I didn't really taste the soy sauce flavor on the chicken. The garlic sauce was good but a little too garlicky for me, and the BBQ was great but for someone who loves spicy food (I usually order medium-hot), it didn't have a lot of kick. Side note, I love soy garlic wings and this is what I was going for but it didn't really mesh the way I wanted to, although still good. After craving some Korean fried chicken, I decided to order from Pelicana Chicken. I've been there before the pandemic for dine-in and I remembered that the food was delicious so I wanted to try it again. I ordered 24 pieces of wings. One thing to note here is that they charge you $2 to get sauce on the wings or on the side. Additionally, if you want to pick 2 sauces, it is another $2 even though you are only getting half the amount of each sauce. I haven't been to a Korean fried chicken place that charged for the sauces on the chicken (especially charging $4 if you want half and half), but I can let it slide a bit here because the chicken itself is super juicy and extra crispy. Even after a 10 minute drive home, the chicken remained fresh and didn't get soggy. Their sweet-and-spicy sauce was my favorite and was delicious. I would highly recommend that sauce if you don't know which one to pick from out of all of their options. The wings themselves all have a ton of meat on them and are very filling. I would even say 6-8 pieces is enough to be satisfied for a meal. Whereas at other places, such as Bonchon, after eating 12 pieces, I was still hungry. The price is a bit on the higher end, as they brand themselves as premium chicken. I can agree that out of the many places I've tried, Pelicana's chicken is top quality. Therefore, it would be a nice meal for a treat once in a while, but not something I'd go to all the time. Chicken tears away easily and melts in your mouth. I tried the ugly honey garlic and ugly crispy chicken chicken burgers. The honey garlic is the closest to the traditional soy garlic Korean flavor. Not too sweet and just the right hints of garlic. The crispy fried chicken as implied was very crispy and crunchy to the bite. Also tried the white snowing boneless chicken. Nothing like I have ever tasted before. The cheese is not overpowering and if I were to describe it, it was like crushed cheese puffs sprinkled onto the chicken. Chicken melts in your mouth and is delightfully crunchy and juicy. Half order is honestly enough to feed 3 people maybe 2 people if they're super hungry. ***TIP: Fries as a side order are a little overpriced at $7.99 for the portion, I would recommend getting the ugly chicken burgers which run $7-$8 and adding fries for only an additional $3 totaling to $10-$11 for that entree. The ice cream beer is also another great highlight. It's like an adult root beer; basically a ginger beer with a slushee on top.
