This past weekend was the first REALLY hot weekend of the year and, as I was driving around sweating, no no, glistening, my butt off it seemed like a sign from the heavens - the clouds parted and the sun shone down on none other than Pelican's. If you find yourself in the neck of the woods of Pelican's you MUST stop in. Beware though...at 100 flavors for just snowballs alone it'll be hard to choose! I think I stood in front of the menu board for a good 10 minutes, and not just because the place was PACKED on a steamy 90-some degree day. I ended up picking guava...mmm, guava...and ordered a large mostly because I was so thirsty I thought my throat might dry out just standing there. Come hungry if you're ordering the large or anything bigger than that (yes, there's bigger than large!)...I finished my large guava snowball dream-in-a-cup and was immensely, if not slightly uncomfortably full after wards! If snowballs weren't fun enough for the kids, Pelican's is located at a mini-golf place and offer flavors like "Spongebob Square Pants" and "Shrek"...sure to make your kids squee with delight! read more

It's summertime and you know what that means! Time for all the tasty, frozen, seasonal treats you can get without outgrowing your swimsuit! As a parent I find that summertime is even more fun because kids NEVER turn down an ice cream cone, slushie, popsicle, or snow cone because they're "too full", it's "too sweet", or they're "on a diet". Now I know the real reason it's so hard to lose those last 5 pounds of "baby weight"- my kids are 5 and 6, by the way. Pelican's is amazing. The little storefront is exactly what you would expect for what's basically an oversized snow-cone stand. What you might not expect, and what sets Pelican's apart, are two things. First is the selection of sizes. Ever been to a stand where the options are "small" and "tiny"?! Pelican's says HELL NO! We will give you small, medium, large, and HUGE! (Ok, "extra large" or whatever. But trust me, it's huge.) The second thing that makes Pelican's great is the variety of flavors! No more of this "red, blue, or green" junk! I'm not sure how often they switch up the flavors they offer, but there are just so many to choose from that you don't care because it would be nearly impossible to try them all and not want some repeat performances. Classics like strawberry and cherry are available but there are some more adventurous bets, like exotic fruits, combinations, and "sour" options. They also have ice cream but I always end up getting a snow cone, you can buy ice cream year-round but how many snow cone shops do you find in December? We stopped here most recently after my son's baseball game and I have to say, winning a baseball game and a "snowball" from Pelican's probably comprises just about the perfect summer weekend day! read more

I was pleasantly surprised with Pelican's snowballs. We all remember the traditional snow Cone experience with the rock hard ice and just enough flavoring to make you believe your not just paying for an ice cube. Pelican's had very soft and flavorful concoctions with over a hundred flavors to choose from. The Carolina Hurricane was my selection and it did not disappoint, unlike the team a lot of times. The staff was very friendly and courteous. They cater to kids and "big" kids alike. I definitely recommend for an afternoon cool down. For the competitors out there they also offer a 101 flavor challenge. A lot of money for a t-shirt and bragging rights, but hey, at least its good. read more

Went on a Tuesday to the mini golf area. It was empty and getting set up took under a minute. That was nice. However, this is the saddest "mini golf" course in the world! There's zero shade, and it's all set up in maybe 50 square feet. You can play through the "hole" thing in 15 minutes or less. Not to mention, the 2 obstacles they did have on holes were covered in rust and dirt. Feeling bad for our son, we sent him to the children's playground a few feet away. It also has zero shade, so he quickly began screaming that everything was hot and burning him. I walked through and realized that the gate was wide open on the other side, directing children to a parking lot and HIGHWAY. We went and got our snow cones, which were fine, and service was fast here too. The snow cones themselves were... well, syrupy ice. But that's not exactly unique to this place. I wouldn't be back here. It seems to pretty much just be a driving range and the rest is an afterthought. read more
