This is my favorite place to get ice cream in North Carolina! It's so delicious. They are always very nice and patient. Whenever I have questions about the flavors they always give detailed explanations and don't rush to move onto the next person. My favorite flavor is the banana pudding. I've been to this location more than I can count JUST for the banana pudding ice cream. The other flavors are just as good. The picture attached is the bananas foster and the brookie. I'm unsure why I didn't have a review already because I've been coming for over 10 years and I normally would've given this place 5 stars! I always recommended it to people, one of my favorite ice cream places and used to get weekly at one point. However, I stopped coming for a couple years recently and just went again the other week and was disappointed. For 10 years at least, every time I went I was able to get 2 flavors, 1 scoop. They would just half the scoop so I can have two flavors and when I went the other week for the first time in a couple years they told me I couldn't do that. Disappointed they would change that. The kids who work there used to always be friendly and now they are not. They just act like you're an inconvenience. Lastly, the ice cream didn't taste as fresh as it used to. It tasted off, maybe like it isn't fresh whole milk or it's milk powder or freezer burned or something but I got the flavor I've gotten for a decade and it didn't taste the same or as good. Fresh Local Ice Cream serves arguably the best ice cream in the Triangle. The base ice cream itself possesses an unparalleled, creamy texture. The flavor of the ice cream tastes buttery and has a touch of malt which adds a subtle, slightly savory note to each bite. My wife, brother in law, and I tried the monthly special flavors of blueberry pancake and salted caramel oreo. The ice cream makers here do not skimp on the mix ins, and each variety was chock full of pieces (pancake batter and Oreos, respectively). As the name implies, the freshness of the ice cream was evident in both taste and texture. While both flavors were fantastic, the unique blueberry pancake won us over the most with plenty of fresh blueberry puree, a buttery base ice cream taste, and addictive pancake pieces in the ice cream. The salted caramel Oreo held its own with a subtle caramel backbone that complimented the chocolatey Oreos quite well. A waffle cone with two large scoops, while a little steep at about $7, was big enough for three of us to share. Plenty of outdoor tables are available for seating. I admittedly don't even like ice cream too much and adored the scoops here. As such, Fresh Local Ice Cream should be the first and last stop for any frozen treat fan in the area. read more

Curious to discover why the line is always long here, I gave it another shot. I decided on the non-dairy sorbet and my date had the brownie flavor. He enjoyed his and I did not enjoy the sorbet. Too overly sweet and again, an artificial taste. The service is fast, the staff are great. There is ample parking and plenty of seating available outside. We love this place! When in town visiting family we make it a point to visit this wonderful ice cream shop. There are so many great options here but what makes this place extra special is the fact that they offer dairy free options. Out daughter has a dairy allergy so having a shop with a section of the menu with options for her to choose from really makes a difference for us. Plus, the dairy free options are pretty amazing! It's an all-outdoor ice cream shop. I thought upon seeing an ATM next to it in the parking lot that it might be cash only, but they accepted cards. Their flavors included some standard, some intriguing, and some in a line of dairy-free flavors (also marked for gluten-free concerns as appropriate). The banana flavor was actually the better of the two, but neither was strong enough for my liking. Even with snow on the ground we were craving FRESH's rich, smooth ice cream. We chose coconut almond crunch (my favorite), strawberry, and of course a dog sundae. Our dogs love the dog sundaes and we enjoyed our ice cream. Many places skimp on sprinkles, but not here, if you request sprinkles they make sure your scoop is covered with sprinkles. After getting through all the amazing sprinkles, I realized that the add-ins for the coconut almond crunch ice cream are sparse. The ice cream had a delicious coconut flavor, but I would have preferred more chunks of almonds and coconut. This location is outdoors. You order and pay on one side and walk around to the next side to pick up you order. It was somewhat busy, but our orders were completed quickly and accurately. They have seating outdoors in several areas. All of the employees we interacted with were enthusiastic and friendly. This place is absolutely amazing!!!! I'd driven past this place for years. I'd even stopped at the ATM next to it. Last week, I had a terrible week. I'd several doctor's appointments, co-pays, and a lot of pain and truthfully, I was feeling down. I'd left my last appointment on my way home. The receptionist saw that I was really was sad so she asked did I have plans and said, "Why don't you do something just got you? I thought that I should resist and leave but thought a small scoop won't hurt. I found myself getting out of the car and walking slowing up to the window to order. I was reading the sign as I approached, "no hormones", "grass fed", "no preservatives". I was looking for my favorite flavor (Butter-Pecan). I said, "I'd like to try Butter-Pecan). The server gave me a sample before I could get it out. I didn't know that they gave samples. I was just placing my order. That small taste was so good. I found myself ordering a large cup. In seconds, I had my ice cream. As I was getting my napkins, I noticed a dad and his beautiful little girl enjoying their cream. Oblivious to everyone around, she foucused her blue ice cream. I covered her face and mouth and was dripping down her little hand and arm and onto her pretty dress. I smiled because it reminded me of me of the times with my daddy and our outings to Tasty Freeze. I could never eat the cream before it melted, so my daddy would lick it down for me to a manageable amount. I think that he just wanted both cones. I handed the daddy some napkins and walked back to my car. I watched an older couples enjoying their treat too. When I finally was able to take the bite, I closed my eyes and savored the cool, smooth, creamy, silky, velvety texture and was comforted. It was like a hug from my daddy. Before I knew it, I had eaten the whole thing. It wasn't fast but just slowly and savorying the peace that it brought me. I plan on going back to try other flavors like the Strawberry and maybe even the "blue ice cream". Yes, I recommend this business. I see now why it is always busy! read more

I've been back and they continue to be one of my favorite ice cream shops. With that said, there are some flavors that need improvement. Their vanilla is lacking. If you're a vanilla ice cream connoisseur, you'll be highly disappointed. However, if you like fun new flavors, this is the place!!
