This place's food is awesome. I love the dumplings and they're crazy good after a couple libations. That being said, the staff fucking BLOWS! I got there getting dumps for my GF who wasn't feeling good. I parked out front and left the truck idling cuz there was nobody in there. The dude was packing sour cream when I got in. You know putting the sour cream into the lil to go containers. He had maybe 50-60 left to put lids on when I got to the counter. I get up there, wait for like 5 minutes while he finishes putting lids on every damn cup then goes and flips the record, THEN takes my order. I was in there for almost 10 minutes. It's taking dumplings out of some hot ass water and putting them in a container. Pissed me off. It's the classic bellingham service and I'm getting real sick of it. Pel'meni, is a happy restaurant. Thats the best way I can describe it. For me, it is simple and easy, it doesn't take long to order meat or potato. Then they boil the dumplings and put on: Butter, Curry, (Secret) Spicy Sauce, Cilantro, and then a slice of rye bread. You have the option of including Salt and Pepper (never done it before) or vinegar (favorite) and you then have the choice of including some sour cream, which will help ease the spice and the heat from the boiled dumplings. It's so easy yet so delicious. Great for a early or late dinner, because Pel'meni is such a hearty and filling food. I am a part of the Pel'meni community so I know what I am saying that Pel'meni is wonderful. Pro's Easy to order/ Music is always on with the choice of changing it yourself with the record player. They really only serve those (with a slice of bread) and a small selection of drinks. They are open relatively late some nights and attract quite the night crowd. Cool place, friendly service, nice vinyl collection, though lots of missing/damaged records. $7 is pretty pricey for the amount of food and effort put into cooking the dumplings. I'd be much happier at $3-5. I got a half & half order and they were pretty tasty but don't live up to the hype. The beef dumplings are markedly tastier than the bland potato ones.
