Lovely French café in a strip mall just across the road from Morikami Gardens. Today I simply had a plain butter croissant and iced latte (side note I was charged extra for 2% milk and a to go cup). The croissant is certainly the real deal. You can taste the butter goodness in every bite. Flaky on the outside, buttery on the inside. This is no store bought croissant. The latte had a full robust coffee flavor that lasted throughout the drink without getting that bottom of the drink watery taste. Limited indoor and outdoor seating. Back for the first time in a while. I opened the door in time to see the owner marching out with food. No smile. Frozen face. No acknowledgment. I vaguely remember this from another past trip. I did not write about. She's not top of the Customer Service universe. When I came to the counter, I was standing there. She was checking her cell phone and I had to finally say good morning to get her to disengage from the digital universe. Her one staff member is shy and quiet, but very pleasant. The croissant is one of the few that I have seen that is not the Montmartre croissant, with the highest whirl and the soft interior with the more lightly flaky crust. This is the old school, highly flaky one. Very tasty, but small for three dollars. The coffee was excellent and as I asked for it. I still wouldn't come out of my way to go here. It's a very small step over Starbucks in the mall next-door. Star down for pour hospitality and somewhat dirty space. Rather than checking her cell phone she should be out there looking at all the crumbs on the tables and chairs that probably need to be cleaned up while her assistant is busy actually preparing food. She might be well served by putting somebody on the counter who is more suited to Customer Service. She warms up to a few people she likes, but you have to treat everybody with the same level of respect and grace. She does not. It's unusual, in Florida, to be exposed to someone who could give you frostbite, like a Minnesota January. Puts the mean into her demeanor. Cette attitude peut fonctionner en Paris, et à Boca. Came here for the first time after visiting Morikami Gardens right across the road. We never knew it was so close and are glad that we found it! I had a slice of their vegetable quiche along with a cup of mochaccino. Both were so good as well as everything else served to the rest of my family. If there were a frequent-flyer program for pastries, I'd have already earned lifetime elite status at Paneterie. I've been coming here for years, and my kids and I have a standing family tradition: never leave without a chocolate mousse. It's rich, it's smooth, it's decadent--basically the dessert equivalent of a velvet robe. The sandwiches? Outstanding. The French brie sandwich in particular is a life-changing event. The first time I took a bite, I swear I heard a tiny French orchestra playing somewhere behind the counter. It's an explosion of flavor so good it should probably require a permit. And then there are the cream puffs--little clouds of joy that somehow disappeared from our box before we even reached the car. (I refuse to confirm or deny whether I was responsible.) My only complaint? Their catering department has never returned my calls about ordering a Classic Fraisier. At this point, it's become a tragic love story: me, waiting by the phone... the Fraisier that never arrives. But honestly? Even with the unrequited pastry romance, the place is still fantastic. I love coming here for lunch. They have the greatest sandwiches and they make great coffee, very European if you like that. It's run by a mother and daughter from France and they really bring the flavor of French to jog Road. Even though you order at the counter, they bring the food to your table. I always recommend tipping the gentleman or the lady that serves you. read more

I love the atmosphere- there's French (I think it's French...???) music playing in the back ground, the decor is simple and cute, the staff is super friendly! I ordered a cream puff, croissant and a latte. This croissant had the perfect crunch on the inside and soft, chewy texture on the inside. The latte was fantastic! The milk was nice and creamy, had a thin layer of foam on top and just a mild bitterness with no acidic after tone! Now, this cream puff. This cream puff was the best cream puff I've ever had in my entire life. I LOVE cream puffs and y'all know this is now my regular spot for cream puffs and coffee... The food we had for lunch here was good. There's no real atmosphere -- you're eating in a bakery at one of their few tables -- and service is efficient, but not warm and fuzzy. There are a couple tables on the sidewalk outside, as well. The store is in a strip on the west side and easily accessed. We both ordered from the wall menu (we didn't see anything printed) and got sandwiches on baguettes. The baguettes were the real deal french bread -- crispy on the outside. Drinks were our choice, self serve, from their cooler. I was happy to see diet IBC root beer so that's what I got. I had their "rustic french" which was a pork pate sandwich with a generous (too much?) slathering of Dijon mustard on both insides of the bread plus the traditional cornichons (small pickles). He had a sandwich with prosciutto ham, mozzarella cheese, basil and tomato. He asked for additional balsamic dressing to add on to it. He said was good... and ate the whole thing. I took half my sandwich home for a later snack. I probably wouldn't get the same sandwich again, but there are a number of other ones I'd certainly like to try -- like their brie with fig or one of their grilled paninis (the Caprese maybe?) served with a side of mixed greens... but then again maybe one of their croissants? So, yes, we will be back some time... maybe not for eat in -- but certainly to grab something to go. Bon appetit! read more

What a delightful little surprise. Debated between 4 and 5 stars because it was a little hectic inside and they probably could have used another person in the front but once we got seated outside it was a lovely relaxed outing. Everything we tried was good. The yogurt parfait was ample and beautiful with plenty of fixings - probably the most generous and filling parfait I've ever seen. The plain croissant was perfect. No need for butter. The brie on baguette was sweet and pleasant. The cappuccino was extra foamy. The nutella croissant was a little rich for me but only because it was so much more packed with nutella than I was expecting. This is a wonderful place to just come and grab coffee and a snack and relax leisurely on the patio. read more

This review is a bit overdue. I have been coming here for awhile to get lunch to bring to work and occasionally grab treats or a pan au chocolat. The inside is charming and very clean. They also have outdoor seating in front of the bakery. I have ordered the chef salad with a couple modifications and I also like the palm beach club sandwich. The chocolate chunk cookies are amazing and if you manage to get a warm fresh cookie it's soooo good. The cream puffs are also pretty good and the filling is made with fresh vanilla beans. One of these days I'll try the macarons as they also look delicious. Service is always good and the staff is helpful. read more

I am a foodie and a Northern California food snob. I think most of the restaurants in South Florida leave a lot to be desired. That said, I absolutely love the sandwiches. My favorite is the Portofino. It's a French bakery, but I am not sure if they make their own bread. But it is really good. If you come at lunch time on a weekday, it's packed. As a French citizen and immigrant, this place is legit quality and authenticity wise. Their pistachio macaron is so freaking good with small bits of pistachios. Their almond chocolate croissant is delicious and their sandwiches yum. The rustic french is on an authentic baguette with delicious pâté and cornichons, enough for 2 people or lunch and dinner. One of the ladies spoke French and overall everyone is so nice. Highly recommend to check it out for a casual French bite. They have crêpes, quiches and many different options. I was in for lunch. There was 1 more person in the cafe. I waited at the counter, the woman who was taking orders was clearly occupied with other things. Finally I ordered a sandwich. Before I was able to order coffee a lady came who apparently paid for her pastry. I was left to wait in the middle of the order while the other lady was given her pastry. I waited for 20 minutes to get my sandwich. Nothing came. I had to go and ask for it. It arrived. It was mediocre. Nothing much. For that price you expect a bit better and a little salad at the side. The latte was very weak. I was not served the fork and knife. Had to ask for it. There were spots on the fork. In a nutshell, very disappointing experience. Save your hard earned money and your precious time on Saturday. Not worth it! read more
