I was able to get same day reservations for my sister and I. The space is quiet, clean and staff were very friendly. I had the pleasure of being paired with Lefite (hope I spelled his name right), he was AMAZING!! The pressure was just right as he tended to all my pressure points. I really wish I could love this place because it is so close to my apartment, but unfortunately the massages are mediocre, the customer service is AWFUL, and they refused to redeem my Yelp voucher to the full value. Even the front desk person admitted that I was right and her manager was wrong, as the voucher printed $75 not 75 minutes. Every time I come, I tip way above 20%. The last time I came, my foot massage was so bad that I had stop him several times. I tipped my usual 20%+, and he had the audacity to ask for more, which left a terrible taste in my mouth. Bought a 90 minute massage on Groupon. Got a same day appointment. They charge $5 at the door (the Groupon voucher mentions this). I had Linda as my masseuse. The employees speak little english but enough to get the job done. Linda didn't talk much but she gave an intense deep tissue massage. Hot stones felt really good. Calming music mixed water fall sounds plays in the background. Best part is they massage you for the entire 90 minutes. In fact, she may have done an extra five minutes. A bang for your buck! At the end, she waited at the front for me and offered me water. I tipped her $15 (that's all the cash I had) and she did not have any negative reaction. I went to the first location in Soho, and they were extremely rude about tipping once I entered and even during my massage, telling me the credit card machines don't work and I need to leave a tip. They made a big deal about it and wouldn't start my massage until they knew I was giving a tip. The lady then proceeds to tell me I need to give up to a $20+ tip. I didn't feel like arguing and just ignored them and told them to please stop asking me for money and to start the massage. I really wanted to leave, but I wouldn't be able to get a refund on Groupon. The massage was better than the one I received on Bowery. Once other customers came in, the women rushed my massage to cater to them. I felt harassed and very uncomfortable. I had the worst experience of my life in a spa tonight at Pengs. After sitting me in a room for a foot massage the male massage therapist (if that's what you want to call him) came in with a mask on which was fine. He then proceeded to sneeze continuously into the mask. Clearly, he had a cold. I then asked for a mask as I was concerned. He kindly gave me one. He kept trying to tell me to get a neck massage and I told him I only wanted a foot massage. Then he started kneading my foot repetitively for five or so minutes and I told him it was hurting and could he do it a little less hard. He said ok and continued to do it hard for about a minute and then he saw a man come in and they proceeded to yell at each other back and forth while he kneaded harder and harder. At one point he yelled at the top of his voice and the other man came up to the window and screamed back. Finally, I said please stop this isn't relaxing with you screaming at each other in the middle of my foot massage. I was up in 16 minutes. He said why stop and I said you have been screaming at each other the last ten minutes and this is supposed to be a calm experience. I said don't worry I'll pay the full price but I don't want to do anymore. I got up asked him the price and he said $78 for my 16 minutes and my husbands 50 minute massage. I gave him $85 even though my experience was HORRIBLE. Then he demanded $10 more for his tip. I said you didn't do anything but yell the whole time. I just wanted to be done so I gave the extortionist $10. Then a lady came out and asked me why I didn't do an hour and I said because they were screaming and arguing and she said they weren't arguing (she wasn't in there so not sure how she knew this but anyway) I said yes they were he pointed to the other man in an aggressive way and it was not friendly. I then stopped talking, waited for my husband and left. A spa should be quiet and peaceful. You should not have to hear screaming. I am finally leaving a review after my 4th visit at Taiji/Peng's Bodywork (3rd at the Houston location)! I think this location is a lot more quiet than the one in Bowery and I like the masseuses that I've gotten paired with every time I've been here. They do a great job at paying attention to all the knots I have in my back and up and down my spinal cord. While I do agree that it is tad bit tacky that they ask for more tip than what they are given, every time it's happened to me, it was always done in a humorous manner and I do believe you should pay more in tip if you've used a Groupon. Took a friend from out-of-state there last time and he too had an amazing experience. Will frequent again and bring more people! :) read more

There are no doors, only curtains, so you hear just about everything, including the loud alarm that goes off every time the door opens. It wouldn't matter as much if they at least tried to stay quiet, but they had no issues shouting at each other all the way up to the front desk. There is a $5 service fee for Groupon, which is also fine, but not something that is visibility disclosed when you check out. Lastly, I gave a 30% tip towards the Groupon price, which was about 18% towards the regular price, and the lady tried to fight me to give her $5 more.
