Left work early to get here the one day that I could. Gentleman at the front did not tell me I can't get my ID printed today. Wait 40 minutes to be seen. Taxpayer funded employee renews license without asking (I was only there for real ID and license expires over a year from now) and punched a hole in the barcode. Now I have no working ID for "15 Business Days" without a warning. Imagine if I was going out to eat or celebrate in the next 3 weeks? Just as you would prepare for any other government building: A. Do your research to bring the proper paperwork. B. To avoid long wait times show up 15-30 minutes before the place opens. C. Be friendly, and most likely people will be friendly back. The entire process to transfer my State Drivers License took me about an hour. I don't typically leave reviews for places, but I felt obligated to share my experience after a visit to this DMV. When I arrived to update my license, I was immediately surprised by the way one of the workers was speaking to a few elderly people who were trying to navigate the kiosk to receive a ticket. He was belittling them for not intuitively knowing how to use this machine and making them feel nervous and rushed. This continued throughout the time I was there. I was also concerned about the lack of patience being shown to several vulnerable populations of people being helped- individuals with disabilities, individuals who spoke English as a second language, and again, elderly people. Many of them have not done this process before, by themselves, or with the changes made to the process, and I saw several people turned away quickly because they didn't have what they needed with little explanation about what was missing or ensuring they could come back prepared. It haunts me to think of how many people are unable to work, drive, or vote due to the impatience I saw at this establishment. Finally, while I do not belong in one of these vulnerable populations, I was also treated with disrespect. When I took my vision test, I was asked to push my head into the machine to turn it on. Well it was on a counter above the desks of the workers, and the small push that I gave it caused the whole machine to fall off the counter onto the desk because it was not adhered, which made a loud crash. While the woman working with me assured me it wasn't my fault, the man who was working there stood up and yelled at me in front of the whole place. I am truly concerned about the quality of service at this DMV and while I know this isn't a place people typically elect to visit, I will be driving the extra miles to try another moving forward. read more

I got my driver's license updated here. Crowded and lucky for me that the license renewal was the shortest line! Staff here are not friendly and most act like they don't want to be there. They are short and rude to customers. I literally felt like I was loaded and crowded onto a cattle car a la my US Army training days. Nicest part about this place was parking, information readily available, and easy access in a strip mall. So 3 stars only for those 3 attributes! read more

Professional and friendly service. Let's be honest: No one likes going to government agencies and applying for new documents or licenses. This is not the fault of the employees of those offices. Treat them friendly and with respect and they treat you nicely too. Mr. Whittaker was very friendly and helpful. The only thing I do not agree with is an employee in the photo area wearing a face shield, not a mask. Face shields are ineffective for COVID protection. read more

If you're looking to get your picture taken for your driver's license or state ID best bet is to hit up the satellite location on Harrisburg Pike beside Brimmer's - that's the ONLY thing that location does. For everything else - driver's license test, permit, application for ID, real ID, moving into the state, etc unfortunately you'll end up here. It is what it is and better than driving to Harrisburg to visit the main location. Take it for what it's worth. It's a government office and like any other state or federal office expect a wait, screaming kids, and inconvenience because they take every holiday off and have strict hours. However they do have Saturday hours. Employees are hit or miss, more miss, as they do their job but usually without a smile or empathy to whatever brings you here. On the plus side they are located in a strip mall so parking is plentiful and you can get a pizza next door or hit up the Goodwill, among other retailers. I found out the hard way with the new real id process. Even though I had all the documents as listed on their postcard (including marriage license and divorce decree) because I have an hyphen in my name and some docs had a space this is an issue. One I might need to go to the courthouse to "legally" resolve. So modern women and those with a hyphen in your name consider yourselves warned. A space is not the same as a hyphen and after waiting 2 hours I still need to make a return visit. So take a number, have a seat, and get comfortable - you'll be here awhile! read more

Employees were courteous but completely unhelpful at trouble shooting a problem. Employees told me to obtain a form but called it an abstract which doesn't exist on my prior states website (or even Pennsylvania's dmv website from what I can find). They wouldn't clarify how to obtain the document I needed to get an in-state license (e.g. email, mailed form, etc). I tried to call Penndot but there is no human I can talk to and the 717 phone number hung up on me. Things don't NEED to be this difficult. read more

Any business can manage their customers and workers time better! They are ridiculous! Because they have no competition they do not even try improving! Waiting longer than 4 h with 2 little kids! This place is the worst. They have no idea what they are doing or talking about. They have attitudes like they don't want to be there or doing their job. They denied my wife a state ID stating that her information was all expired and that he would have to take all her paperwork if she didn't leave right away. That was all a complete LIE, none of her paperwork was expired and she had everything necessary to get her state ID. Luckily we went to the PennDOT they just opened on Lincoln Highway and we had an amazing experience there. They were able to provide my wife with the ID she needed and treated her like an actual person. I honestly don't even know why this PennDOT is still open when the new one is the best I've ever been to. read more

Just a warning to new PA residents - This will probably be the worst license transfer process you'll ever experience. There was a line out the door at 8:30am and then a 2+ hour wait. Out of all the states I've lived in I have never seen such a poorly planned or executed system. Just sayin and welcome to PA! read more

Because I'm Hispanic, I automatically have a green card? Um no sir. The Hispanic female security guard also super rude and was laughing and smiling at him being rude THE WHOLE TIME. Got in and out in about an hour and half to transfer my out-of-state license back to PA. The gentleman at the counter was very nice (Joe, I think his name was). I think any real problem is PennDot staffing which isn't necessarily this location's fault, but every location in the US. However, the staff is all trying their best and is at least pleasant to boot. read more

This place is horrible. The people who work here are depressed and unmotivated. The waits are atrocious. You will be waiting at least 2 hours to get paper work signed. And the guys who run the drivers test are very unprofessional, and one can barely speak English. If you're gonna be a judge for who can drive or not, at least be able to speak the native language. No one can understand you dude. I've never seen anything this bad in my life. I highly recommend avoiding this place at all costs, for it resembles the deepest layer of hell in Dante's Inferno. Lancaster PA dmv opened special Monday slots for drivers test on 5/9/16. Monday is supposed to be their day off. When my son and I arrived, there were 7 or 8 cars waiting in line for their tests because the driver's test person was an hour late. He quickly cleared the cars in front of us...it appears most of the drivers (if not all?) failed. He apologized for our wait, blaming the computer system. He told us the photo system wasn't working right either so we would likely have to come back if my son passed the test. My son's drivers test lasted 30 seconds as he allegedly bumped the curb (which he said he did not.) I wonder how many of the other drivers allegedly did the same? read more
