Scam shop. They told me I had a problem with my vehicle that I know I didn't have. I didn't know any better at the time and was sold into it. Later found out from a friend that Mavis is known to do this and said my car shouldn't have broke/rotor issues for over 100k miles since it has regenerative braking. I should have known since I had it all inspected a few months prior by another shop and they said brakes look like it's in great condition. Slimy business practices. Preys on those that don't seem to be car people. Wait time is also very long. Was told 30 minutes but ended up eating over 2 hours. Isaiah our service guy was very condescending to both me and my mom. We called in advance and spoke to the corporate office who told us a price total no higher than $885. Isiah told us that the pricing that we called in advance about was entirely wrong and that (And I quote) "maybe our math was wrong" even though we were doing it on a calculator! Whatever he was just rude but only when it came to the pricing. For tires it was supposed to be $631 including tax/installation. $234 for break pads including tax (approx $21), so total $255. $255 + $631= $886 all including tax. $5 for tire disposal=$891. Absolute scam this place is. Went for a state inspection here, my battery was one cause for a failure. The tech said it was leaking, turns out it was dried road salt. Brought it back after wiping it down all of a sudden it's a pass. This tells me the tech didnt even test the battery, then they tell me my wiper blades that were fine the week prior are now a fail and tries to get me to pay for overpriced wiper blades. Would give zero stars if I could, especially with the dangerous mistake they made in "repairing" my wife's car. I took the car to Mavis two Sundays ago because the brakes sounded funny and it needed an oil change. After they initially wanted to charge me close to $5,000 for repairs to the brakes, the oil change, and a few other things they noticed, I asked them to only repair and charge for what was urgent. I finally got it down to $1,800 for the brake pads, rotors, rear calipers, new brake hoses, and the oil change. I think it was about $400 to $500 overpriced but I really wanted to get this done and move on with my day. After waiting over 6 hours at their store with multiple misleading ETAs that the car was almost finished, they eventually told me the tire rods needed to be replaced on the front left tire. I thanked them for their work and decided I would address that later. I had my wife take the car the next day to another mechanic closer to our house to get the tire rods replaced like Mavis recommended. To our collective surprise and horror, the mechanic pointed out that the brake hoses were not secured away from the tires as is standard. Instead, they were dangling loose and rubbing against the rims as we drove! After less than a day of driving, the brake lines were already wearing out and on their way to splitting open. The mechanic took pictures and advised that it was done wrong, and the hoses were now unusable. The mechanic explained that if the brake lines split open while we were driving, the car wouldn't stop. Imagine if that were to happen at a high speed. We would be dead or gravely injured. So we had to pay again for replacement of the brake hoses by this new mechanic, and deal with the stress and headache that Mavis gave us as we tried to get some amount of refund. We could not go back to Mavis before the new repair because the brake hoses were already damaged. We would have had to get the car towed. I went yesterday explaining the situation and was told by the employee to come during the week when the manager was in. My wife came in today and presented dated receipts with the explanation by the second mechanic that the brake hoses were installed wrong and hitting the tires. The Mavis manager Angelo had the audacity to tell my wife that we should have driven the car back to Mavis before having another shop work on it, and that the brake line had been in good enough condition to do so. He actually thought I would let my wife drive a car where the brake hoses were already damaged after less than a day of use, and back to a place where the mechanic dangerously installed them without securing with clips. In the end, he offered only a $100 refund for the cost of the brake hoses. He wouldn't refund for the cost of the shoddy labor, or any additional refund for the mortal danger and stress they put us in. There's something seriously wrong with this place. I had good experiences with a Mavis in the Bronx with minor tire repairs. I would recommend staying the heck away from the Great Neck location, and maybe think twice or three times before going to any Mavis. And read the Yelp reviews first. The Great Neck Mavis' poor Yelp score of 2.3 stars out of 5 is a more accurate reflection of my experience, and even more accurate if you subtract 2.3 stars from that score. End of the month and my mom's car was due for inspection. Of course, she doesn't realize this until l happened to look at her car. So I scrambled to find a place open on a Sunday to take care of it since I could take time off tomorrow on the last day of the month to take care of it. Thought I got lucky when I was able to snag a last minute appointment at Mavis. Arrived for my 11am appointment. Specifically asked how long it'd be since I had to rearrange my day. Was told 2 hours so I stayed local. Walked around along Northern to kill time since 2 hours is doable. When I called 2 1/2 hours later since I hadn't heard anything, I was told my car wasn't even in the bay but it should be in soon. So I waited around some more. It's now 5 hours later and my car still isn't done. A 2024 car that's barely driven had to wait over 5 hours. Also no one in the lobby. The staff are all hanging out in the garage either taking smoke breaks or dicking around. I didn't see anyone touching the car but it was supposedly being inspected and it was only 5 more minutes. Longest fucking 5 minutes. What was the point of an appointment and a quoted time? I get it. The end of the month and a bunch of people likely waited til last second to deal with their inspection. All I asked was be quoted an ACCURATE time. If you told me that I'd have to pick up my car at the end of the day, then I would have found a ride and come back at scheduled time. I would gladly risk a ticket and fine then have to come back here. No apologies. Just shrugs. Don't waste your time. read more

I have been using the Great Neck location for many years without major problems. But this year, I feel like I was completely scammed. Took my car in during the winter to fix my brakes which I thought were under warranty but was told no. They insisted I needed new shocks and struts eventhough my car was driving smoothly. Car has not been driving smoothing for past 6 months. Took car to 2 different mechanics both test drove car and said same thing front struts making noise due to faulty mounts and front sway bar link making noise when hitting bumps. Car feels like it is falling apart. Both mechanics felt I should not have to pay for labor again. I just took it back to Great Neck location this week and no one was available to test drive car and see what problem is. They refuse to fix problem they created for free. Parts are under warranty but other mechanic who looked over the parts said they came from a 3rd party supplier and are not OEM parts. I am afraid to let them touch my car. You lost a long time customer. Also that same day they wanted to charge me $65 each for front wiper blades that were really $25 each. Outrageous! read more

Had 4 tires replaced at Mavis Great Neck. Was told there was problem with front brake rotors, although brake pad was fine. Was advised replacement of front rotors and put new brake pads, which I did together with infusion of new brake fluids. Cost me additional $450. Dashboard instrument went haywire thereafter and said check essentially everything. Took it to dealer nearby who told me brake fluid was improperly infused thus alarms were set off. It cost me additional $180 to reflush brake fluid. If needed, just get tires replaced/fixed. Wouldn't recommend repair of any additional, non-tire-related problems read more

DANGER: Deceptive tactics! Went in for an oil change and they said I needed a bunch of other things fixed. Turns out it was all bullshit. They said I needed a new car battery. They even had a fake device to make it look like they "analyzed" my battery. I went to another more reputable mechanic and they said that was BS. They said I needed new brake pads. Other mechanic said I had at least another 10,000 miles on them. Maybe this is just expected experience with any auto mechanic, but save yourself the trouble from dealing with the bullshit here. I scheduled a tire change and inspection at this location and found the experience nothing short of poor. The staff is rude, manipulative and disrespectful to its customers. I waited 3 hrs for 4 tires! Yes I waited from 1pm to 4 with the store empty . The inspection team tried to up- sale me everything but the engine and transmission. Don't come here. Finally a guy casually showed up around 8:25am. He slowly opened the doors & turned on lights. Now theres 5 people behind my husband. My husband mentioned his scheduled NY appt. at 8:00 am. The guy said our machine is broken why don't you go to another Mavis. My husband replied cause I don't have an appointment at another Mavis and i will have to stand there for 3 hours. Couple days later when I show up for my appointment, the person I spoke to said itll be a 3 hour wait and told me to go to another Mavis place. Showed up the other Mavis place and they said it was also another 3 hour wait. The guy behind the counter here could use some professional training - perhaps call your customer ahead of time and notify them that there will be a wait and don't just send them off to another Mavis that has the same wait time and lie about it. read more

After reading a bunch of reviews I was hesitant, but I've gone to a few Mavis' based on convenience of location and necessity of tire replacement. I must say I didn't have any bad experience. I called prior to setting an appointment. They were honest about not needing to make an appointment prior to coming in. As there will be some wait regardless and it's expected. I went on a raining day so it may have helped with the wait time. But if they spent less time than stated then I would be concern as four tires had to be replaced along with alignment and balancing. Total wait time was 1 hour and 15 mins as they have stated. I have no issues coming again when new tires are due for replacement. The entire team was helpful. read more

Took 5 hours to replace 4 tires and tpms. Made an appointment 2 days in advance and tires were not on sight. Had to wait an hour for them to be delivered. They took in at least5 6 others while my new tires sat unmounted next to the lift. After 2 1/2 hours I asked about ETA. Manager told me they were done and programing the tire sensors. Obviously a lie, the tires were still sitting there off the rims. Over 2 1/2 hours later they can't program the sensors and tell me to go to the dealer to fix it. This place has to be shut down. It's Mavis in name only. I went there a couple of months ago for a leaky tire and they ended up selling me 4 tires and an entire brake job. It's on me that I went along with it, but I don't know cars and I didn't have time to go for a second opinion so I agreed to it. But that's not the worst part: The "customer service" people are all 20-somethings who are rude, arrogant and incapable of understanding a basic question. I returned yesterday to ask them how to release air from the tires if I over-inflate them when adding air. I've never had a problem with any other tires but I couldn't do it with these tires. There were three guys at the counter, all of whom kept insisting that my tires were not over-inflated, and they didn't understand why I was asking the question. I tried over and over to explain that I just wanted someone to show me what to do if I should over-inflate while adding air in the future. This went on for 15 minutes. No matter how I tried to rephrase the question they gave the same response-- there was nothing wrong with my tire-- while getting increasingly argumentative and patronizing. I felt as though I had entered the Twilight Zone. One of them finally seemed to grasp what I was asking. He told me if I needed to let air out I would have to use a special tool that they had in the shop, which made no sense. After about 15 minutes, an older mechanic who overheard what was going on took outside to my car and showed me how to deflate the tire, using my $5.00 air pressure gauge. Problem solved. It should be noted that there was no language barrier with any of these guys, so that wasn't the issue. Whatever the source of the problem, they should not be running a nationally-recognized tire store. They were arrogant, patronizing and totally inept. Between over-selling and rude, incompetent service, I will never go to Mavis again. Which is really a shame. I've been using them for tires ever since I got my first car. It's been over 40 years. I woke up early on the day of my appointment but when I arrived, I was told that they couldn't do it because they ran out of emissions stickers. The person at the counter said that according to his computer, someone left me a voicemail. Update on Mavis on Northern in Great Neck. I brought my car in for an inspection and they told me I needed new front rotors, front brakes and rear brakes. Meanwhile they installed new rear brakes and rotors 4000 miles ago. So they lied about that and I told my son to get the car. Then when my son went to pick up his car they never returned his lug nut key. They denied it and stated that they gave it to him which is not true. This place is an absolute disaster zone STAY AWAY my car has 68k miles and haa never had an issue. I went in for a New York State inspection sticker which is $37 and left there spending $1500 on tires and breaks themselves which I understand Then there were other charges that I asked about whether I need them to pass the inspection and I quickly realized this was all about selling. the assistant manager in this day. it was a Sunday was the nastiest human being I have ever come in contact with; so unprofessional he should not be dealing with the public. I believe his name was Fayed. all I know is that he is the assistant manager on the weekends my car sat there for at least an hour without anybody working on it and when I asked this Fayed and 2 other workers I got 3 different answers: the NYS inspection computer was down or they are waiting on parts, or they don't know finally the assistant manager said to the worker "oh you can work on it know" Earlier on this Fayed said I raised my voice, which I did not. my feeling is that if you do your job right, you don't deflect the argument like this individual did. I called Mavis corporate n Sunday afternoon August 14, 2022 and filed a complaint and was told a district manager would be contacting me shortly. I will post the results of that call. what a demoralizing experience having been treated this way. I am out $1500 and not even sure if they installed everything that I paid for. SCAM!!!! I have an Acura and brought it in to change 1 tire. They end up telling me I need this and I need that told them no I dont want any other service. They end up changing all 4 tires and costing about $1500 I told them I'm not paying and we went back and forth eventually he put back on my old tires and was cursing at me.
