I called yesterday to schedule an appt for an oil change for a fleet vehicle, 2015 Toyota Camry. I spoke with Dre and he booked the appt and didn't ask me for any information, not even my name. He said when I get there they will take care of me. We made the appt for 12pm. I arrived at 12 and was welcomed by an unfriendly worker, he said "park across the street." I parked, came across the street waiting for them to acknowledge and Steve at the desk finally took my information. They (another gentleman named Gin I believe) asked me to get my license plate# and the odometer. I asked them how long it would take for the oil change and they said "30 minutes or longer." I asked if they can call and they said they would. 2 hours past and I called and spoke with Steve again and he didn't remember who I was after I introduced myself until I mentioned the kind of car. He said they are working on it and probably would be another 30 minutes. I mentioned that I'm waiting on them before going out for the long weekend and finally I came to pick up the car 3 hours later and I saw it still parked across the steet where I left it. I finally met Dre who took my appt yesterday observing 3 other workers just standing there by the desk and mentioned that I'm here to pick up the car and he said they haven't started on it yet. Went to Pep Boys to get my van inspected. I found it to be a very easy task. Made the appointment online for 8 am. I arrived at the shop at 7:45 and at exactly 8 am they opened and took me in right away. They where all polite and by 8:30 I was in my van leaving the shop. I am very happy with the whole experience. Yep splash guard started dragging on the floor, I didn't bother going back. Mislabeled work AND shoddy work doesn't inspire the greatest confidence that they will back their service. Also I only drive primarily on weekends, with today being only day being the exception, or i would assume splash guard failure would have happened even faster than 17 days from review. They over book like the airlines and never turn drive up customers away. Only a few bays and dangerous entrance/exit on a busy street. I'm writing my review on Yelp because apparently my review on the Pepboys website does not meet their guidelines. Their guidelines include: "Avoid writing about customer service, please contact us instead if you have issues requiring immediate attention." What the hell kind of guideline is that?? Any basic review almost by definition would need to include comments about customer service. Obviously this is a way to inhibit bad reviews on their own website. This practice in itself should give you some idea about what is to be expected at this Automotive store/service center. So, I scheduled an appointment for a standard oil change on the Pepboys online booking webpage and was give a specific appointment at 4:00pm, and received both a confirmation email and text. The whole point of booking an appointment was to avoid the long wait times associated with these big name retailers/service centers. Typically, I go to a local mechanic and have it done within 15-20 minutes. No synthetic oil, never need any other service. If I didn't live an apartment, I'd do it myself. But it was the weekend and I was overdue for an oil change, so I mistakenly thought this appointment process would be convenient since I live 3 blocks away. While waiting for the appointment, I was trying to call to actually get a price for the oil change which for some reason is near impossible to find on their website. After 3 calls which went unanswered, I just drove over there 5 minutes before the appointment time. I go in and tell the register attendant I have an appointment for an oil change. He says walk through the 2 back doors and ask to speak to "Harry". I walk into the garage, which has every car station packed, and maybe about 4 "technicians" to service the dozen or so vehicles none of which are in a rush to ask if I need assistance although I'm clearly out of place there, I finally ask one of the "technicians" if Harry is around. Apparently, he stepped out. They told me to wait by the register by the garage door. Harry comes in and I tell him I have an appointment to which he has the look of no clue. He goes on the computer and finally pulls up my name and says you can park your car outside and we will get to it when a station opens up. He says it will take 50mins - 1 hour. I then ask him the price, to which he gives $40 - great a long wait plus overpriced to boot. It is sooooo apparent that the appointment website is meaningless and that you will get the same service if you just pull up and wait and waste your life for an oil change. This business suffers from the classic disease of "your business isn't important to us because there is more where you come from". They take advantage of what is perceived as convenience because of their location and hours of operation. The "technicians" are as knowledge as a high schooler in a bio 101 class and the customer service is as good as computer techs from India. A place like this is for people who fall for the trap of believing that box service centers mean more than your local gas station mechanic. I skipped the raping of my time and money for an oil change, and got a $15 dollar groupon for a 24-hour service center in Elmhurst. I should have just know better. Look at the other reviews, hours to get oil changes and battery replacements. Any small shop would do that in minutes. Imagine the shoddy work that is done to boot. They survive because of their convenient location, hours of operation, and brand name. Don't fall for it when it comes to simple routine service. read more

Overpriced and slow service. Staff can be unreliable. They will most definitely overcharge you. A big portion of your bill will come from "labor" charges. You can get the same service done on your car for a third of the cost at an indie shop. Don't let these guys steal your money. read more

Terrible. I had them put on directional tires on my car and perform a 4 wheel alignment. They put one of the tires on pointed the wrong direction. They tried to tell me that it came in that way and that they didn't touch that tire. Which was a complete lie. Then they wanted to argue and tell me they wouldn't flip it around when I asked them to fix it. The alignment was crap. They didn't align the car with the steering wheel pointed straight and it certainly wasn't aligned correctly because I could feel it vibrating worse than before I brought it in. They told me it was because of my tires. Took the car to V&S right across the clearview from Pep Boys. This place was very professional. Took care of my car within two hours and the alignment was perfect. The car felt brand new again. I recommend going to V&S. Even with the guarantee on my alignment at Pep Boys I could not even consider taking my car back to such an incompetent staff (not all of them are bad but collectively it was a train wreck going there) If my car broke down in the Pep Boys parking lot I would literally push it to get it away from there. read more

they go out of their way to lie to you just to get you off the phone. They make you feel like if you're not there to buy something that doesn't require "service" then you shouldn't be there. The most horrible experience here. Made an appointment two weeks in advance for new tires. I called the day before, they QUICKLY confirmed the tire was there. Not even a slight pause to check a computer or stock. I called again and someone took the time to look and say it's not there but it will be on the day of my appointment made TWO WEEKS prior. On the day of, rather than waste a trip I called and they said call again in the afternoon. I called again in the afternoon and they said they "don't know where it is." That kind of attitude and service made it pretty clear to me that they didn't want me there. If it takes you over two weeks to find out whether or not you have two tires in stock and to get it, you should find another racket to be in. No one wants to waste a day doing car maintenance, and I'd understand if this was last minute. But it wasn't. And there's no excuse for lying. This review is about the staff in the store, NOT about the mechanics in the garage, whose service I have not used. For years, I have been shopping at this location, which used to be Strauss Auto. The past few visits to this Pep Boys store have really disappointed me. I am surprised with the limited knowledge its staff has about their store and the products they carry. I am not referring to their knowledge about cars and car parts (I do wish Pep Boys would hire car enthusiasts though). I am talking about their inability to advise where their products are shelved in their store. In a number of times when I asked about an item (caliper grease, wheel lock, to name a few), the staff couldn't tell where it was. And if they don't know, the usual answer is either "check it out in the back" or "we may be out of it." My impression is that the staff there has no motivation to assist their customers and no desire to learn about their store and their products. Until they retrain or restaff, I would be driving a few minutes west to shop at Autozone on the same street. read more

Brought my car there two nights ago around 6:30 in the evening for an oil change. There were only 2 other cars there being worked on & at least 5-6 mechanics in the station; and they were all just hanging around. Took almost 20 minutes to get my car on a lift. They took their sweet time. Didn't finish till almost 8 at night. A 10-15 minute job took over an hour Also, the next day while sitting in traffic, my car overheats. I come home. I see its low on antifreeze. Put some in myself & hasn't overheated since. They could have checked and told me. After all, the mechanic was quick to tell me I need new brakes for a quick buck I also asked them to change a rear lamp. They told me it was just loose. But it's still out read more

Well...got 4 new set of tires from them...but the issue I think they did a horrible job. TPMS light still on. And after a week, when I look at my tires, they look a bit flat, so I go to gas station to check out all the tire pressures...and all tires are between 10 to 20 PSI when all of the tires should be at 32 PSI. So I'm not sure if they forgot to pump air into the new set of tires or the tiring sealing was bad...Either way, doesn't matter which one, still a horrible thing happens to your customer when they paid lots money for new set of tire and $100 for installation fee. read more

I took my car in a couple weeks ago for a taillight that was out and a check engine light diagnostic (which is same problems I had brought my car in fora few weeks before THAT, but wasn't correctly taken care of). It turned outi needed a new taillight and a new hose. I had asked them to fill with coolant fluid because the cap was stuck, check my tires for slow leaks, and do an oil change. NONE of those were done andi just decided to let it go this time. So they had my car two days, and I'd rather not rush mechanics so that they fully do what they need to. So afteri picked my car up, it turned dark outside as I was driving, and I realized all my dash board lights were out, except for the time on the radio. Ok...I guess they messed up the electrical. Well I barely have any spare time, so I figured it's just the dashboard, I'll take it back in next timei geta chance . A few days after that, a cop pulled me over (dark out again). It turns out the new tail light, plus other rear lights weren't working. I showed him my pep boys receipt and explained what happened, so thankfully he didn't ticket me. I called pep boys today and spoke with manager rasheed. First, let me say I should of checked the work they did before I left the store. I was eager to get my car back and that was my fault for assuming they would do a proper job, without checking. So today I call and after them not picking up the phone until After 3 attempts, I got the manager rasheed. I explained everything to him, I cursed one time when saying my car was there for 2 f***ing days, he yelled at me telling me not to curse at him, I apologized and didn't do it again, yet the entire convo he was yelling at me and repeating not to curse. Cursing is part of my vocabulary so I was just normally talking the one timei said it, yet he insisted yelling at me from the minutei told him his guys messed up my electrical. I asked him to prioritize my car. Usually I see my car sitting there for hours before they even touchit.i explained that to him. I'm even giving hima heads up the day before. I got not one sorry for your inconvenience. I understand you have other customers. Even if my car doesn't come first, treat it with a little urgency, tell me something reassuring. First he said electrical takes awhile, then he said he doesn't know what's wrong with it. Then he tells mei don't understand and he won't drop everything for me and they'll get to it when they get to it. I asked fora refund for Labor then since they messed everything up, and if he was going to continue being rude to me, lying pretending I'm cursing at him, and honestly, talking down to me cause I'ma woman, I'll take it somewhere else, where they won't sit here being completely unhelpful and disrespectful to me. I am so disappointed of this place, is amazing the bad customer service I received from tire center and the person in-charged named Christopher. Everything started because I purchased tires onlines and I needed the installation, so I called 3 times and I was placed on hold for 35 min each time, all I need to know was to confirm that my tires were there and to schedule a appt. Finally I get to the store since I did not get a answer on the phone and after basically taking out the tires my self because no body could help me, they tell me there 5 cars before me and this is having a appt already. I will never come back to this store, auto zone is a very good option to go , they treated me so much better then this people of pep boys that think that you are going there for free. I went there because the check engine light was on and off for over a week. They couldn't detect anything wrong and it passed the state inspection on the same day. One day later, the light came back so I went back there. The mechanic told me 4 valves had to be changed and there was a hole in the back of the hose ( I don't know what it's called). How can my car pass the inspection with those problems?! And they are gonna charge me $500 to fix those. I called one of my friend who is a mechanic in other state and he told it's insane. So I came home without fix and the light has not been on since then for 2 weeks. As other reviewer wrote, it took very very long to finish their jobs. Pros: Clean store that is well stocked; knowledgeable and courteous staff. Cons: Sometimes will take longer to do a job than they estimate. I have been to this location a few times both as a Pep Boys and as the RS Strauss that used to be in this location. The Pep Boys that currently exists earns better marks than its predecessor largely because they don't try to up-sell you the way the prior establishment did. I brought my Pilot in for a new battery over the summer and just recently had the tire on my RSX repaired. Both times, I came in and told them what I needed, and they gave me exactly that - nothing more, nothing less. Over the summer though, the battery change took over two hours (!) and I had my kids with me at the time. I was told that it would take about 30-45 minutes. To their credit, the staff recognized that something was wrong with how long we were waiting and a couple of people came over to apologize. If you need parts or repairs, this is a decent place to go. One tip - if you can join the Pep Boys rewards program 24 hours or more beforehand, certain maintenance and repair jobs (like a tire repair) are complementary. read more

Well so far I have been here for two hours no word yet. There is a sign up in there wait are saying express service for tires. I don't know what they consider express but to me two hours for one tire is completely inexcusable. read more

Zero stars would be appropriate for this shop. The store itself is fine. The problem is the repair shop. Long story short, I waited five hours to have an oil change and shock replacement done, despite having an appointment. I'm too tired to write a detailed review. It would merely be repeating what is in most of the one star reviews. They don't let you know how long the job will take. I literally had to raise my voice to get them to tell me how long the job would take. This was after waiting for 2.5 hours. And they were wrong anyway. Instead of taking an additional hour, it took 2.5 more. Thy make a million excuses and spend a lot of time goofing off with one another or on their phones. No sense of customer service. Making an appointment had no value to them. The job was done fine, though they didn't put a sticker to let me know when I need to do my next oil change. I came here because of two coupons. I saved over $100. Wasted my day, but at least there's an upside. Still I would absolutely not recommend that you go to this place unless you are dropping the car off for the day. If I could rate them 0 stars, I would. Pay more with someone that is reputable than waste your time; time is something you will never get back. I was here on a Thursday night after work for over 3 hours. By the time I finally got my car, all the other customers that came after me were already gone. They claim to have plugged a tire "for free" and changed one "with a discount." I don't know if I should question their qualifications or being sexist. I specifically told them which tires have problems, yet the next morning the air pressure symbol was on the dash again. The tire had 12 psi in it so I filled it back to 33. To avoid highway issues, I took public transport and by the time I got home and checked the car again, it was at 15 psi. Thanks for wasting my time and making me aggravated. read more

These guys are really really kind to me and I can't thank them enough for the small acts of kindness they have shown me. My car needed a jump start and it was at the BP across the street from this Pep Boys location and i had my fiance tell them the situation. They handed him a portable jump start machine. Free of charge. That's the best experience I've ever had in an automotive retail store. (We had been customers making a purchase in the store several hours earlier, so I think they remembered us) Thanks to Dylan and all the kind employees here. The guy told me to "find a parking spot" and he'll get to it when the appts before me are all done. If you can't accommodate for all these cars then don't take appointments. read more

2 hours to get a battery switched out, even with an appointment. I had to check in at 90 minutes to find out what the hold up was. The service people got hostile, but --surprise! -- 5 minutes later there was a tech carrying a battery to the service area. If I hadn't complained I might never have gotten the battery. Also, the (online) mail-in rebate doesn't work, so factor that into your price calculations. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. 1 hour and 30 min wait time for a simple oil change...And I was the first vehicle to enter the shop! I was observing the work being done from the waiting room. And at one time the guy doing my oil change stopped just to have a full fun conversation with his coworker. Then my car was ready and no one came to advise me that my car was ready. It was because I stepped out to the shop to reclaim my car. My oil change came to $82, which magically jumped to $106 after a "reprint " of my bill. I had to go back, only to find that their compressor was broken, so they could not re-do it that day. I had called earlier in the day, and made an appointment. They didn't even bother calling me to let me know they would not be able to do the work that day. And, I had to cojule the service manager into getting me an appointment somewhere else. The person at the service desk was nice but not very knowledgeable of the products they sell so he asked a young lady for help and she recommended a product. When I questioned if it met certain specifications, she said yes. I explained that I didn't see it on the product and using the wrong product would ruin my equipment so I needed to be sure. She insisted it was the right one. Well, long story short, it was the wrong one. Fortunately I did not purchase the product but it was obvious to me that this person didn't care if the product wasn't what I needed but only interested in making a sale. Let me tell you how upset I am of the fact that I made an appointment at this location, arrived on time to be told to leave my car and that they would call me when it's ready because they won't be able to start my service for another hour and a half. I had tickets to go to the city with my son, and told the service representative I would not be able to do that, and that I had an appointment. He tells me they have 5 other scheduled 11AM appointments . He then suggested for me to come another day- which I could not because of work. I was very upset as that was my only day off and needed this to get done. I asked to file a complaint and was directed to the customer service number which I filed and was told the regional manager would be following up. Instead this morning I get a call from the store manager who didn't even bother introducing himself I had to ask him if he was the manager bc he was asking so many questions smh - who instead of finding a resolution is making excuses on how they tell their customers there might be a wait. I told that gentleman that is an inconvenience and what is the point of an appointment time if you're going to be servicing late- that is a walk in, not appointment time. He's telling me to come in and make an appointment , it will be an oil change on them ( after stating again I was upset and asking what is being done about my inconvenience) to still state I may have to wait because it depends how busy they are! Unbelievable! I asked for the regional manager to give me a call and he states how it may take a couple of days because he is busy- are you kidding me??? Beware, bait & switch. Scheduled a synthetic blend oil change for my 2015 Honda Civic online. However, when I got to the store was told that they will only do a full synthetic oil change for more than twice the price. When I confronted the service manager, he told me it is what it is. I told him that the car does take synthetic blend but he didn't care. He said he doesn't care what the online appointment states and that even though Honda states that the car can take synthetic blend, his computer knows better. In addition, I had to wait around 15 minutes, before anyone would even acknowledge my presence. If you want to feel like you are nothing as a customer, definitely go to this place, because they just don't give a crap about their customers. read more
