A bit pricey, but the customer service was A+. I initially had my SUV towed in because it was over heating. Denzel was the representative that took personal responsibility for making sure my car was serviced as needed, even when he was not there. He made sure to communicate with his team to ensure I would be satisfied with the repairs done on my car. I appreciated his humble and sincere approach to ensuring everything was done appropriately. I also appreciated Ricky's oversight and helpful managing to ensure the part (which) they didn't have was ordered and ready to be installed on my car. Awesome service! Today was my first time ever using Pep Boys and I must say it was a great experience! I took my car in for a routine oil change as well as brake evaluation. I needed a lot of work done and the service rep, Tim (Guyanese fellow) was really helpful in working with me with the cost of all the work. Installs faulty brand new parts. Mechanic doesn't check his work before giving car back to owner which could in itself cause a major accident since it was a full brake job done to my car. replaces parts on 3 different occasions and all parts come up faulty. Work itself by mechanic, doesn't test or drive car to make sure parts work the way they are designed. nearly got into an accident because of it. totally a waste of money and time. smaller shops would probably do better. read more

I made an appointment for 10 a.m. today to have an oil change done on my car. An hour and a half later I was still waiting. When I then asked about the delay, my car was finally taken into the bay for the work to be done. I was informed that the website accepts an "infinite number of reservations" and if "the actual site doesn't confirm via a phone call then it's not an appointment." ??? The Pep Boys website clearly says: "30 minute oil change with appointment". Terrible service and misrepresentation regarding having an "appointment" on their website. read more

Came here for a car inspection after Mavis failed my car trying to trick me into buying new tires for over $300. Everyone at Pep Boys was very helpful and quite friendly. The technician who worked on my car was knowledgeable and took the time to tell me every potential issue with my car but didn't pressure me into getting anything fixed at that moment. I went to Pep Boys yesterday to get a wheel alignment done on my Nissan Altima. Emil was very helpful, and took the time out to show me what work needed to be done on my car. He kept me updated on the progress of my repairs, and alignment. My visit lasted 2 hours- which included strut replacement, brake inspection and wheel alignment. The issue: Pep Boys on Hempstead Tpk in Elmont, NY incorrectly installs a brand new Falcon tire. I take it to Tremont because it was closer to where I was staying for the weekend. The offer: Pep Boys states because its a brand new tire, it shouldn't be a problem getting it fixed free of charge. The realest rip off: 2 hours later I get a call informing me that the air valve on the tire is to blame, this is on a brand new 2013 Nissan Altima. They offer to illegally replace my valve with a rubber non Nissan part for over $60. After I decline, they insist on charging me for taking off the tire and putting my spare tire on. I had to beg for the fee to be waived. 2 hours later I get the tire correctly mounted at a Nissan dealership. Pep Boys obviously does not know how to mount tires. Avoid them at all cost. FAIL And they leave your trunk a mess, don't restock the components that go below your trunk mat, they just throw it all over. read more

Terrible deceptive service. Went to have a belt changed. Instead of changing the belt used a lubricant and sent me on my way. Car started making a terrible noise look under hood to find the belt was eroded. It looked like it was being shredded. Went back and after watching the mechanic and an associate whisper to each other, was advised to "not drive the car as it can be dangerous." Was told car should be repaired immediately. They changed the belt to what looked like a new belt. Car made a rattling noise afterwards. The point is they tried to lube the old belt and charge me the 236 dollars. Top rate scammers!!!!! Horrible service!!! My husband and I took our car to get new tires 3 days ago. They took about 5 hours to start on the car and didn't even bother to call us when it was done. Not only that, but the alignment was messed up. My husband went in the next morning first thing and they said they'd fix it. He waited there for another 6 hours before someone told him to "come back tomorrow morning at 8AM". He went there this morning and they still have not taken a look at the car saying that there are appointments in front of him. Mind you it has been 2 hours already and they told him a specific time to come in which should be marked as an appointment since they were the ones who messed up the car in the first place. On top of that it was super expensive compared to other places, not sure why we even chose to come here. Never making that mistake again. If I could rate this place zero stars I would. read more

If I could give no stars I would. Went to get an inspection, left my car , it took over five hours to get it done. Then I get a phone call telling my car failed the inspection because my wheels had rot. I need to get new wheels and then I can pass inspection. I was I am going to pick up my car don't want anything else done. At this time my husband calls our trusted mechanic tells him what they said he is like I never heard a car falling inspection over that, bring me the car I'll look at it and you can get it inspected too. He also tells me they can't remove the sticker if it didn't pass. ( my mechanic is in Brooklyn and I live in the Bronx, I thought I would do inspection here. Never again) so I go the service clerk tells me I fail inspection I see two different papers one that I see him putting in computer system that's type and the one on desk with just writing on it with my info and my car's ; with break down of new tires and so. I tell him I want the copy of everything including the one on table. I ask about the one he enter in computer he saids is letting DMV know car fail inspection. I get the car they took out the sticker which they were not supposed too. They were really trying for me to be like well now I cant ride car I will get a ticket. So I can buy tires. I took my car anyway. Took it to my mechanic. 1. My wheels were in perfect condition no rot. 2) the official paper said I fail because my car needed an Alignment. Which is an 123 job and it would only cost about $60 and my car would had pass inspection. My mechanic and the new inspector said they were trying to scam me. First the lied then they wanted to replace my good expensive wheels (probably to sell them a get more money) with cheap ones for $600 plus labor. My mechanic did alignment I pass inspection and that inspector reported their ass. I hope they get their inspection license revoked. They really thought because I was a woman I couldn't spot that something was not right. I will rather take the long ride to Brooklyn but know that I am only being charged for what is really wrong with my car. read more

This place is just a mess of a business and not only does staff not pay any attention to detail, but when you call and ask to speak to management, they have the audacity to tell you that you are mistaken and in essence call you a liar. So let me tell you a story... I went to this Pep Boys to get some snow tires put on my vehicle. Based on the size, they only had 3 tires in stock so the rep asked if I wanted to have one ordered from another store and assured me that it would be in that afternoon. He said if it arrived later than 5 PM, I would be better advised to come in the next morning when they would have more techs available to perform the labor. I had my wife in tow so I agreed to come in today and asked him the best time to come in. He said, 11 - 11:30 would be ideal. While I was there, a lady was extremely upset because the work that they were supposed to perform on her 2014 Honda CRV was actually performed on a 2015 that was brought in for different repairs. This only came to light because they tried to turn over the 2015 to the woman who was extremely upset because she was going to have to wait for the same repairs to be made to her vehicle. At the time, all I told my wife was, not only is that bad, but the owner of the 2015 vehicle now has had repairs to their car that they didn't even need, and had factory parts replaced by God knows what which would void his or her warranty with the dealer. AWFUL! In any event, I arrived today with my poor wife again only to be told that the order had been cancelled when the other store could not find the tire in question. The rep I dealt with today, a kid called Mikey, was actually apologetic and made a ton of calls to try to get the tire delivered today and have me come back in to have the tires changed. Mikey re-made the order and assured me that he would call me as soon as the tire arrived at the store and would put me in the service queue immediately upon its arrival, this was at about 12 noon. So I was home at 7PM and had not heard back from Mikey so I called the store from my cell phone. A rep named Chris answered the phone and when I asked for Mikey, he put me on hold. 10 minutes later, while still on hold, I dialed the store from my home phone. When Chris answered once more, I told him that I was still on hold on the other line waiting to speak to Mikey. He asked me if this had anything to do with tires. When I briefly gave him a synopsis of the issue, he placed me on hold once more and told me he would track Mikey down. Sixteen minutes later, someone picked up the phone and when I said hello, hung up on me. I called the store a third time, (it was answered by a different rep this time), and asked to speak to the manager. I was asked my name, which I provided, and the phone was picked up by someone calling himself "Johnny" who assured me that he was the service supervisor. I explained everything that I've written here and he said that I had to be mistaken in assuming that I was hung up on... WHAT??? Is he serious??? I went ahead and informed him that I was visiting Sears Auto in the morning and advised him that I would be sharing my story and advised him that the store should really reconsider it's business plan as it was REALLY in need of repair. I had been their customer for a while now and i used to bring the car prior to my current car for maintenance, repairs, etc. I never had any major issues other than the usual long wait time, inconsistency in the info they provide, etc. and just fyi, i'm not someone who usually takes time to write bad reviews. Anyway, i brought my car to Pepboys one Saturday for a scheduled maintenance. Note that it's my first time bringing this particular car here for maintenance. Brought in my car at 9am, i got out of the shop at around 12:30pm. They told me they were only able to change the oil but they couldn't open the oil filter housing because it was too tight so they weren't able to change the oil filter. They also weren't able to change the air filters because they ran out of stock. Not a big deal for me, usual nuance of bringing your car to pepboys. The service attendee was nice enough to adjust my bill and give me a little bit of discount because i waited that long. Fast forward to Monday, i drove my car to go to the gym after work. When I got out of the car i smelled something like burnt oil. I went on to inspect where the smell was coming from and I found that the front right portion of my car was emmitting smoke. Called Pepboys to tell them what happened so I brought it there before they closed. I spoke to one of their service attendees and told him what happened and he was nice enough to check my car. I showed him where i was smelling the burnt oil and he asked me to pop the hood. He looked at the engine, told me that just by looking at it he knew what was wrong--- the oil cap was left off after the oil change and the mechanic forgot to replace it back! The oil had been spilling out and that was causing the burnt smell. He went back in to talk to his manager, he called me back in to get my phone number to lookup my receipt/service detail. He went out again most likely to have another conversation with the manager and after a few minutes he came back in and asked for my keys. Although in the end they immediately fixed the problem, this wouldn't have happened had the mechanic replaced the oil cap. I know bad things happen, but this mistake is totally avoidable. read more

Dropped my car off for service on 3/6/15 and waited until 3/19/15 for it to be ready. Had 0 call backs from the service department when I would call to inquire about the status of my car/repairs. Well - I thought everything was done and ready to go when I picked it up after 8:00pm on 3/19/15. FAST FORWARD...on Saturday 4/11/15 I received 2 Parking violations from NYC. 1 ticket was for parking in the handicapped area on 3/16/15 at 4:06pm and 2nd ticket was for improperly displayed plates on 3/16/14 at 4:09pm. I received tickets while my car was IN THEIR CARE at THEIR FACILITY!!! No one said anything to me when I picked up my car. SPoke with the Assistant Manager Tracy, in person and she was helpful, assuring me someone would get back to me (they didn't). Called on 4/14/15 and spoke with Nelson Delgado and he was EXTREMELY RUDE and CONDESCENDING. He stated they would only be paying for the handicapped ticket, as it was my fault about the plate. REALLY? I brought my car to their facility with both plates displayed and properly attached. HORRIBLE customer service - UNETHICAL, SNEAKY. Don't waste your time here. read more

I recently visited this location after having difficulty starting my car. Triple AAA said it was my battery and because i was under warranty i sought an exchange. To make a long story short a test was conducted and i was informed it was the alternator. As im not an expert i called my mechanic who asked "was a test provided on that." I was told yes, the alternator that is. After some back and forth dialogue between my mechanic who directed me to take one of the battery connectors off and turn on everything in the car ( radio, heater, high beams, wipers etc ...). Once the car still ran it was obvious it could not have been the alternator. At this point, one of the workers so unprofessionally asked" If you have a mechanic why did you bring your car to us? "My response was that i had a warranty. It soon became obvious that the work area attendant's initial confirmation that a test on the alternator was conducted was an absolute lie. The positive from my experience was that the front desk manager was clear and understanding towards identifying possible causes as to the root of my problem. The moral of the story: Dont believe everything you hear especially if you are not present for any actual tests. read more

Went there on April 6, 2015 to have my daughters front tire checked because it kept losing air. I got there around 6 P. M. They only had one car on the lift and at least 10 mechanics just standing around. At the counter there was one person but he stayed on the phone and avoided eye contact. Ten minutes later a second person comes out and I tell him what work I need. He tells me it would take one and a half to two hours before they can look at the car because the mechanic is having a problem. What kind of problem can it be that you need 10 mechanics just standing around. I walked out. All I needed was the tire checked. Do yourself a favor and avoid, avoid, avoid unless you want your blood pressure to rise. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Should be -5 stars. I have never had such horrible customer service. I brought my car in for an inspection for an 11am appointment on November 23. I also requested wipers (which I informed them I had in my car trunk) replaced. They told me I needed 2 tires replaced and all 4 brakes and rotors replaced. They told me at one point a brake part was not in store. I agreed to have the tires replaced that day and they agreed to repair the brakes the following Saturday, my next day off. I made calls for status throughout the day. At times I was put on hold for 20 minutes. Multiple times they told me that my car was just about to be worked on. At 7PM the car still had not been worked one. I was told 'one hour more'. I went to the location at 8PM - still not done. At 9:45PM, I finally got my car back, an hour and 1/2 passed closing time with no other cars left in the shop. Of course they did not put the wipers on, did not reset the air pressure indicator light and the car still had not passed inspection. On Friday night I called the store to confirm my 7:30 appointment the next day (November 30, the last day the car could pass inspection) and to find out the status of the needed brake part. Assistant manager Eric did not know but that he would check. After several calls he still did not know and told me to 'check again tomorrow'. My appointment was at 7:30AM. He expected for me to bring my car in early to have a replacement part installed that they did not even know if they had. Absolutely baffling incompetence. They had all week to check on the part but did absolutely nothing. Nothing. Just like the prior week until I practically begged them to do something. I cancelled the appointment. They do not care about you. They do not care about your car. They will string you along and play you if you let them. I'll take my chances running around on the last day of the month to try to get someone to inspect the car. read more

I called ahead about getting an inspection and the woman told me to come down immediately and it would be no wait. Somehow when I got here 20 minutes later it was a 2h wait! Then they stick you in that cold little purgatory waiting area with infomercials blasting on the TV, it's just miserable. I went in for a simple oil change and had a terrible interaction with The One, The Only TIM ( a true A**hole). He was as kind as to make me wait longer than necessary, send me a text only after I asked him for a status on my vehicle, and while I was standing in front of him, then decided to just add a rewards card of some sort without asking, but was nice enough to point out that I should read the back for further details. $70.00 later and a brief verbal warning that my vehicle was leaking, no recommendations as to what to do or how dangerous this may be. I was however instructed to pay at a different area and to pick up my vehicle from the lot. Needless to say, I've schedule another service visit elsewhere. read more

Worst Pep Boys experience I ever received!!!!!! Went in for a car battery. I did in store pick up online since they had a promotion. They gave me a battery to fit a 2005 Ford E-150 but I drive a 2012 Pathfinder. Returned to the store which is less than 15 minutes from my house. They said "We don't sell that battery". They claimed that I never purchased the battery in their store since they don't carry that battery. Mind you the stock room is full of Optima battery same one I purchased. They refused to provide me with an exchange or refund. At that point I was frustrated. I advised the manager if she can rewind the camera, she said don't know how to. Which manager doesn't know how to rewind the camera? I advised her i'm calling the cops. Then she said no we can work something out. She went into her "office", came back out after rewinding the camera and said yes you purchased this battery here, duh! They exchanged the battery for the correct one after an hour or back and forth. I am never stepping into this store ever again! They were rude, discourteous and not professional when it came to a minor issue like mine. I wonder if someone had a bigger issue how will they handle it? I guess good service is hard to find these days! read more

I was picking up some auto parts today and decided to get a quote for a brake job. I told the Service Manager, Derreck, that I just wanted a price for the job, but he kept me waiting on line for 30 minutes while he dealt with another customer who arrived after me, whined about the slow computer system, chatted with his buddies, talked about "how good he is with his hands" and how his "wife appreciates it". Eventually, he turned his attention to me, put my details into the computer. Then he had to do it all over again as his preferred brake pads were not in stock and "didn't want to order them from an outside supplier". Why not? I guess he doesn't get as much mark-up on the job? I even had to listen as he went on and on about what a great Christmas he had, and how good it felt to be going into 2009 with "no debt" and "money in his pocket" and "money in his wife's pocket" because he gives his pay to his wife and "she takes care of all the bills". I guess that is how she shows her appreciation for "how good he is with his hands". He even boasted that he was 33, and asked me if he "looked it". How vain is that? Apparently, he just "dyed his hair and beard" to get rid of the gray. Man, you are so hot!! Jesus managed to turn water into wine, save the world and get crucified by the age of 33 and this doofus is proud that he has managed to get the top off the bottle of Just for Men and rub it into his scalp. After ALL that, he refused to give me a quote for the job and told me to come back another time. What a joke. What a waste of life. Avoid at all costs! Also, I bought one of the parts I bought was billed at the wrong price at the checkout. I brought it to the attention of the cashier (Vijay) and he processed a refund (again, whining about the slow computer system). I noticed he checked "Match competitor price" in the refund system. I bet if I go back in a month, they will still be overcharging the same amount. Check your bill for everything in this place! read more

I went to a gas station on Eastchester road and was told that I need an altinator and a battery. I was give a price and i was not too happy about it. My battery light was still kept blinking on/off so I drove to Pepboys on E. Tremont Avenue and I asked for the price on the battery. The service guy came to my car and check my engine size and found my battery terminal loose and upon tightening it, my battery light went off and he told me that would take care of the problem, which it did. I was so psyched, i asked to see the service manager to give this guy some credit, not knowing that he was indeed the service manager. I would recommend this to anyone that has car problems because the honesty and service was above excellence. read more
