This has been a horrible experience!! Both with the specific location I went to AND (most disappointing) with the 'complaint department'. When I spent $700 for new tires (a) I had to wait FIVE hours (b) they never balanced the tires (c) they left off every single vlave cover I called immediately at 800-737-2697 and was given a case # (#318669) and was told my concerns were being expedited - and that a supervisor would call me back the next day. This was on April 9th. I have since called a total of THREE TIMES asking for someone to help me resolve this and still no one has ever called me back. It is now April 20th and have given up. At this point it appears that Pep Boys has simply taken my $700, left me with unbalanced tires that will wear out prematurely ... and even the corporate office does not care in the least to even respond to my concerns. After being a Pep Boys customer for 40 years, I am now sorry that I ever decided to bring my car there. I will never again recommend anyone to use Pep Boys again. read more

Do Not Trust what they tell you. One day, I'll find a place I trust to take my car, but this is NOT that place. It's such a cliche: the mechanic that tells you your car needs a bunch of things it doesn't need because they assume you don't know any better and they can scam money out of you. I brought my car in for a NY inspection. They came out and told me I needed $100's of dollars worth of tune ups and part replacements. If I hadn't JUST LAST WEEK had the entire car serviced and replaced EVERYTHING (my dad has a shop in my hometown and over the holidays, his mechanics gave my car a complete overhaul, so I know for a fact what was just done) I might have assumed they were being straight up and I would have considered doing what they recommended. I mean, they're the experts, right? I told the guy at the counter that I had just done all of this and asked how he determined this was necessary because it felt scammy. He said, "well, we recommend this based on mileage." Mileage from what? The day the car drove off the lot? Randomly? Cause it's not based on mileage from the last time it was serviced... 6 days ago. Not mileage from the last time the parts were replaced... 6 days ago. If I had just trusted them, I would have dropped HUNDREDS of dollars instead of the $37 for the inspection. A comfortable waiting area. They have called me while I'm waiting to give updates. I am able to make appointments on line. The service requested is always taken care of. I bought four new tires yesterday. One went flat overnight, and it was obviously, according to the AAA guy, not a puncture. When I went back this morning I was asked "So you want to buy a new tire?" What!!!! He pointed out in the fine print that there was no warranty. Unbelievable! What business would do this? A sclerotic, failing one that can't die soon enough. I normally try to be understanding with service delays, but this experience at Pep Boys was unacceptable. I made an appointment for a routine oil change at 12:00 PM and arrived on time. By 2:00 PM, I still had not received any update, so I called and was simply told, "We'll call when it's ready." No one ever called. At 5:00 PM -- five hours after my scheduled appointment -- I called again to check on the status of my vehicle and was told they "couldn't reach the store" to even provide an update. At that point, the store was closing within the hour, leaving me forced to spend additional time and money traveling back through rush hour traffic just to determine whether my car was ready. What is particularly frustrating is that this is not an isolated incident. This is now the fourth time I've experienced excessive delays and poor communication at this location. At that point, it becomes difficult to view this as a one-off issue and starts to feel like a systemic disregard for customers' time. If appointments are consistently running hours behind schedule, customers should be informed proactively and given realistic expectations. Most people plan their workdays, transportation, and personal obligations around these appointments. Scheduled an appointment for an oil change and a NYS Inspection. Couple of things stood out, first there was the wrong mileage recorded, 55,426 when the actual mileage was 46,694. Then of course there were several suggested items but nothing that would impact being able to provide the inspection sticker. My appointment was at 10, they said it would be ready by 11:30. After a review and a bill that should have been around 200, they were able to jack it up to a little under 1000 with their suggestions. When I protested and agreed on only adding the air filters the bill was 275. Of course after not going for all the additional services, it added another 45 mins to my wait time. Last but not least the billing statement has the total price of 162.19 and I was charged 274.29. Now I have to call my credit card company and dispute the charge. Steer clear of this Pepboys @ 354 4th Ave in Brooklyn. You will get more than you bargained for and that ain't good. read more

Went to pick up and they said the price is going to be 3 times what I agreed too. 3 months later and over 10 phone calls I'm still waiting for the full refund they agreed it. I came to get 4 tires at 11:30?on a Saturday. They estimated completion by 1:30. 2:15 PM asked status and they said another hour as they thought they had told me 2:30. I told them the order est I step 1:30. They said they would try to push things up. 2:45 car still sitting in parking lot. When was the car actually finished. 6:00, 4 1/2 hours past their initial estimate. They are horrible at estimating wait time. I would have gone home had I knew it was more than two hours. read more

Absolute nightmare of an experience. If this review makes one person rethink taking their car here, then it's a success. I brought my car in for a NY state inspection on Thursday, June 20th at 8:15am. When no one got back to me by 3pm, I called to get a status update. I was told my car failed inspection, I got a 10 day extension to fix the issues, and I could pick the car up at my convenience. I immediately go to pick up my car. First thing I notice is that there is a new crack in my driver side window. On the outside there is a semicircular indent where something had clearly fallen and hit the car. I immediately inform the sales representative of this. He goes to talk to a mechanic who said the crack was already there when I drove it in. I know this a lie. Representative tells me they will look over the security tapes which, conveniently enough, don't show anything. He essentially accuses me of running some scam where I take my car in to fail an inspection and try to get a free window replacement out of it. He tells me they will file something with their claims department and I will hear back in 48 hours. The 48 hours go by and no one reaches out to me. So I call them back where I am placed on hold for 30 minutes just to be told someone would call me back by the end of the day. Of course no one calls me, so I call back again the following day, at which point I'm told I have to call their corporate number at 1-800-PEP-BOYS. After I call that number, I am told again that someone will reach out to me within 24-48 hours. I'm now stuck here with my only recourse writing a bad review and warning other people to NOT take their cars here. Pep boys and their staff are now proven to be patently dishonest, yet I'm the one who is being treated like a liar milking a free window out of them. I have attached both time stamped photos from the security camera at the lot I park my car, taken immediately before driving 0.4 miles away to their store. I also attached pictures of what my window looked like after I picked it up. Please do not trust these people with your car. They will damage it and then lie to your face. I very much regret not reading these reviews ahead of time. It would have saved me hundreds of dollars and a lot of aggravation. There are so many other auto shops on the area. read more

Pep Boys on 4th Avenue in Brooklyn NY is the worst business establishment I have ever encountered! I highly recommend going there if you want to be robbed by the company and have the management have zero cares about it after. I paid $1400 to have my brake pads replaced, when I picked up my car all of the payment terminals were having problems so I swiped my card and the payment was made and the funds were taken out of my account. I showed 2 managers that the funds had been taken out of my account but they said this had been happening quite often and they needed to contact the I.T. Department. I made it very clear that I did not have the funds in my bank account and by no means should they ring this transaction up a second time. A few days later, sure enough I woke up and another $1400 was withdrawn from my bank account. I called the store and neither of the managers wanted to be "Hassled" with my situation. They were both EXTREMELY RUDE. I was told by the manager he was not going to argue with me and that I had to call 1.800.pepboys to get my money back. I filed a dispute with my bank but was told it can take 14 business days to resolve the issue ( THREE WEEKS)!!! Pep Boys has no concern about their customers....NEVER GO TO PEP BOYS! read more

I approached a woman at the counter named Sandra when she was talking on the phone with her friend and I waited for her to notice me. When she realized I was there, she gave me a nasty look and asked if she could help me. I told her about my appointment and she directed me to a suspended blue sign saying the line starts there even though nobody was there and then she proceeded to talk on the phone again, complaining about making minimum wage. I was about to leave and find service somewhere else but a guy came in just in time and serviced me but he was pretty hostile towards me the whole time, even getting angry when he thought I was pulling out my card to pay after he said not yet. Went in for a full-synthetic oil change at 10am on Friday. I was greeted by Edwin - He was great and very helpful. I sat and waited for my car. The waiting area/room was nice; large. Stand-alone tables with chairs, for social distancing, a desk to pop-open your laptop while getting something done, and a large television tuned to ESPN for us to listen to while we all scroll on our phones. An hour later I get a call that there's something that needs to be discussed. I sit back down. Half-hour later I get back up and ask if I can check-out. Worst experience with a run of the mill inspection & oil change. I am writing it off as a lesson in karma - shop small, go to your local spot. I made an appointment for an inspection/oil change for 10AM. I checked in 10:05AM and was told it was going to take 2 HOURS. What's the point of the appointment then?! Fine. I waited 2 hours. At the 2 hour + 15 minute mark, I checked in on the status and was told it would be ANOTHER HOUR/HOUR AND FIFTEEN. It has now been 3 + 1/2 HOURS and I am only just now done with this god-forsaken establishment. No discount offered or anything either. Lesson learned. Never again. Let this be a warning to all - do not use this location, for anything. I only wish I would have checked the reviews before coming here. Rookie mistake. read more

THE WOST EXPERIENCE I EVER HAD I went online to the pep boys website to get a new tire and installation. I made an appointment for 8:00 AM the next day. I arrived there was nobody at the front counter, i had to wait a few minutes. A woman came to the counter, I gave her my information and she said my tire wasn't there. I said to her "why would you make an appointment for me to come down here and have my tire installed if you didn't even have the tire?" With a nasty attitude and a face she replied "I didn't make you go anywhere" then walked away. Nobody came to the counter or helped me afterwards I just stood there by myself. I went home and contacted customer service. I just wanted to buy a tire and have it installed, that's it. This place couldn't even do that. How did they stay in business doing stuff like this? I had an appointment to get my battery checked. I have been here once before to buy and install windshield wipers and was helped by one of the women there and I had a very positive experience. Today the service person was Joseph one word.... awful. He told me it was going to take an hour to check my battery...ok no problem. After one hour I followed up with him and he said oh I don't know maybe yeah I think he checked it. I don't know..... then the technician came out and asked me so what's happening with the battery??? come on are they kidding? I told Joseph what was going on and to sit there for one hour and the technician had no idea... the technician, then proceeded to tell me that I needed an oil change... that didn't give me much confidence considering that I had a oil change last week... he then told me I needed a wheel alignment... I told him I'm here for a battery. He then said yeah your battery is low. Back to Joseph he told me it was gonna take an hour for the battery to be delivered and installed OK no problem.... I told him I wanted a similar battery that I had in the car. His response was.... I don't know what battery you have in your car. Is this guy joking me??? I said... why don't you go look? I also asked him if he had a battery that was maybe stronger or better than the one I had . He responded with a quick "no" Again, I did not have much confidence in this guy. I waited an hour and during that time Joseph left. I was left with Xavier to check me out. Zero personality and literally took the keys that were in the plastic bag and dumped them out on the desk.. not even to hand them to me. I questioned him that I have a four year warranty on this battery and his response was." no you have 48 months." at this point I just needed to get out of there because I was just praying that my car would start after dealing with these guys. These guys obviously do not appreciate their jobs and have no right to be in the service business. I am an easy customer.... I didn't question the price.... I'm chalking this place up to hit or miss. I saw a lot of disgruntled customers in the "waiting pen" and what seemed like a general lack of urgency or concern. I've had oil changes here and evaluations for AC repairs. I felt like the oil change was easy and straightforward. I chose not to wait since i live close by and it was the right call as it took several hours. I'd highly recommend completing anything you can online and making an appointment to reduce frustration. It's probably a best practice to also not come for typical things like inspections on the last weekend of the month as they have an influx of those and you'll be waiting for-ever. read more

They connected their own diagnostic computer and told me to take my car to a specialist. This was a simple anti lock brake sensor. I had 4 sensors from Mercedes on the seat. The didn't install them. Brought my car in to have the AC fixed. Usually that just means charging up the freon. Which they did. And it got cold for about a day. Brought it back. Waited there for about 4 hrs before they told me their AC guy had left for the day and I'd need to return another day. I only get two days for a weekend so spending my Sunday afternoon not with my kid but wasting it in a garage seemed a little bit inconsiderate. When I had another chance to bring it in they examined it and told me I had several leaks. The repair would require a lot of labour and many new parts. It would cost $3200 but they'd give me a break and knock it down to $2850. Took it in for a second opinion to Malibu on Coney Island. They (correctly) diagnosed the problem as the compressor. $1200. Still a lot but less than half what Pep Boys asked. Now I don't know if Pep Boys mistake was a function of incompetence or dishonesty. But it doesn't really matter to my wallet. Go to Malibu. Avoid these jokers. They're either crooks or morons, neither is a good choice. read more

After I replaced my brakes (rotors, pads, and calipers), the brakes stopped working. So I went to Pep Boys. I paid them $372 and spent all day Sunday there. When I picked up the car, they kept telling me I had to replace other parts and spend even more money. Knowing no one there was helpful, I took the car to Jerry Atros Motors. The friendly staff there said they were checking things out and would let me know what the problem was and how much it would cost. Two hours later, I got a call that the car was working again, the cost was $262, and I didn't need to replace anything else. Thank God I didn't let Pep Boys continue fixing my car because the repair costs would have been much higher, and they wouldn't have fixed it anyway. I lost money with them, but I already know I'll never go there again and I discourage anyone from doing so. They don't know what they're doing. read more

We took our 2018 Chevy SUV with 47k miles and four new Michelin tires to Pep Boys for a tire that lost 100% air suddenly while it was in the parking garage. This was in January and I'm still upset. They put the car on the lift. Then the service advisor told us we needed four new tires "because of the mileage on them." I said, "No. The tires are one week old." He went to check. Since we were traveling the next day, we were advised to replace the tire that leaked air for safety's sake. They said, "The sidewall is damaged and cannot be repaired." Went to AutoZone the same day and bought the parts for $120. Did the job myself in under an hour. I'm so sick of scam-artist mechanics. TBH, would have rather paid someone $150 to do the job (which was the price quoted online) and save myself the trouble, but I sure as hell won't pay $600 for these jerks to scam me. Gross.
