I have had several "ok" experiences here; today was the worst. I had scheduled a new tire install 3 days prior and decided to add an oil change + alignment for an extra cost because of the great deal I was getting on the tires. When I arrived the person I spoke with on the phone could not find my quote, my appointment, or tires. My only option was to pay 250.00 more(just for tires) or nothing at all. The service attendant did not offer me other tires, offer a free oil change for the mix-up, or generally try to solve the problem. I left with nothing and went to Sears who gave me a discount purely on my awful experience (which was 200 dollars cheaper anyhow!) I will not be back to Pep Boys for anything ever again-even an air freshener. I wish this had been a better transaction. Severely disappointed customer. read more

I made an appointment to have a gasket replaced for my cooling system. I live out of town but work in Chico. I made arrangements to stay at a friend's and get a ride to and from work after dropping my car off for the repair the night before. The service manager Joe assured me that it was a 5 hour job at most. I went to pick up the car 24 hours later and I was informed by Joe that they couldn't get the gasket and he was sorry but he forgot to call me but the repair wasn't done. Absolutely so unprofessional and juvenile customer service. More interested in taking phone calls from friends and texting than doing their job. Zero stars and Joe needs to find other employment. I want to thank Steve in the tire center. We were headed up the hill for a family trip on 7/5. In the other car was my Mother in Law with 4 kids. She got a nail in her tire. Pep Boys was the only one open on Sunday. Steve was very polite and understanding on the phone without over promising. We came in for a flat repair. Steve said he had a full day of appointments but when get to us when he could. We were out in an hour and able to continue our Vacation. Had to take my car in to get some shocks. Had a coupon that said buy two and get half off your labor. Bought them on the retail side and then took them over to get installed. Told me that they wouldn't value the coupon because I had to buy them on the service side first. It was only 50 bucks so I decided not to be a Karen and complain about it. They called me and told me that all four of my tires were low on tread, one had three nails in it, one had another nail in it and that I should get them replaced. I had them quote me and they said it was $900 out the door for the cheapest set of tires and labor that they had. I told them no thanks and that I would take it elsewhere to get a second opinion as I hadn't had any issues with the tires at all. All of this was news to me. Then they kept calling and telling me that none of my tires were holding any air at all and there was no possible way for me to take it elsewhere unless it was towed. I drove to the store and all of them were full. I pay and leave. I drive to America's tire and I did in fact have to replace 2. Not the ones that had nails in it but the ones with an uneven tread. The service guy told me that the nails didn't even make it through and I didn't even have to plug the tire. It was fine the whole time and it was obvious from the get-go. It cost me 200 bucks out the door to get two brand new tires the nails taken out and rotated in less than an hour and a half. Do not go to Pep Boys for any reason at all as all they are interested in is ripping you off. read more

This place is my new go-to for repairing my poor, abused car! From the beautiful sculpture of three short dapper men guiding me through the door, to skipping out the establishment excited to be behind the wheel again, my experience was nothing but good. I had been putting off repairs for a bit, putting my punctuality at risk, probably as well as my life. There was an issue with my transmission and my headlights were so dim it's like they were actually NOT WORKING. I had been using my fog lights! Tim and Sergio were the sheeznit and made their best attempt (and were successful I might say) in explaining the issues with my baby, the elanaster, my first car, my hyundai elantra. Also, I feel like I received the best deal in town for the services they performed. The service was fast and even with my crippled car, I was able to yield my key once more. I can now drive home today safely and visit the rest of my family, the humans. If only there was a place like pep boys that could fix my human--in one day with an illness, out one day all patched up. I feel like a douche writing a bad review, but those who are super particular about their car like me should be warned. Brought my BMW in to get new tires b/c I needed them ASAP (usually go elsewhere for service). They got the job done, but my car was returned to me with the following: -broken brand badge on rim -cracked center console tray (doesn't function how it's supposed to now) -headlight switch forced into dash (now it's loose after fixing) -grease stains on leather around shifter/ebrake -what looked like beef jerky bits on the seats (I keep my car spotless and don't eat in it for that reason) -tire pressure error code still on (they tried to reset it by disconnecting the battery, which is not how it works for BMW's. All they did was reset all my driver settings. I mentioned it to the guy and he said "you just need to drive it around and it'll go off". I knew that wasn't the case, but arguing about it was pointless, so I just reset it myself. A simple YouTube search would show them that resetting the lights is done on the dash and takes all but 20 seconds) Whoever worked on my car just did the job sloppily and carelessly. These things aren't major, I just expect my vehicle to be returned to me in the same condition I left it (aside from the repairs, obviously). On top of that they weren't even less expensive than other places. If you have a beater and don't really care about minor details then by all means this place will get the job done, but if you're particular about your car then I recommend going somewhere else. read more

I had a appointment for a tire rotation and air check and the service quote was $15, as I understood it's a quote and not the set price, then they told me that I needed new tires even tho mine were in good condition. The total ended up being $380 for the appointment and the estimated time they told me was 1-1:30 hrs. The car wasn't ready until 4:30 hrs later. A month later from them replacing my tires and moving my hubcaps to the new tires, both hubcaps are now gone from being installed badly and now I need to buy 2 new hubcap replacements read more

My boyfriend came in here with a broken alternator and DAVID was able to help us out very quickly! we were nervous that he wouldn't have the part and would have to be here for hours and be days without a car for a few days but he went above and beyond and help us out even though it was 30 minutes before closing!! I scheduled two appointments last month, and let them know in advance that I needed my car by closing. - both times the work was not completed, and they requested to keep my car overnight. In the last seven years they have been chronically overbooked and miscalculate maintenance times by a FEW HOURS. A simple oil change tends to take ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT! I give up! This place is terrible. I mean, really. I had a 10:30 appointment to get my car smogged, and I took it in at 9:30 just in case they had any openings. Apparently they did, because Steve told me it would be ready in an hour. So I went to get some food and returned at 10:30. Steve then told me that they hadn't started mine, but it would be ready in about an hour. This ticked me off a bit, but I figured that since my original appointment was at 10:30, I could deal with it. I came back at 11:30 and Steve told me that they still had not started my smog because they had double booked appointments. He said he would call me when it was done. I came back at 12:30 and it was done, but he had not called me. I mean, seriously, what the heck guys?? If you knew you had double booked, why did you tell me at 9:30 that it would be ready in an hour? It's not like I wouldn't find out that you were lying. This kind of dishonesty and lack of integrity is everything that I hate about taking my car in. If you had told me in the beginning that it would be three hours or more, I could have just gotten a ride home. It's really too bad that this is the only place in town that will smog on Sundays, because I would have loved to go somewhere else after reading the other bad reviews on Yelp, but I couldn't. In the future, I will never again come to Pep Boys. I'd rather take a day off work than put up with this kind of bull. read more

He had me bring the vehicle back in so they could make sure I was taken care of. It has been terrific service after the initial walk in and I will most certainly be a Pep boys customer still. Good customer service. They were very willing to go the extra mile to make sure I was satisfied. So I scheduled a very generic service at my local Chico, CA Pepboys. (rear O2 sensor replacement). I provided the part and detailed information. The service center had my car for over 24 hours, not a problem as it's a third vehicle. They called to tell me that they could not fix my car and to come and get it. No offer of advice no "we can fix it but this is what we need to do." Just a simple sorry we don't want to fix it. I have never been so disappointed in my life with service from a company. I have been a pretty loyal Pepboys customer for the last several years. Going there for anything from small tools to car care products and several services. Looks like I will be shopping around for a better place to take my car from now on. I am so frustrated. I earnestly wish I could give no stars. I went in with two problems that I had had for a while thet had finally bothered me to the point of wanting to repair; to fix a blinker that was blinking much too fast and too dim on my drivers front side, and to fix my reverse passenger light that had gone out completely. Upon leaving, the blinker seem to be fixed but resumed it's erratic behavior within two days. At that point I then checked the reverse light - something difficult for one person to do alone - and found that it also was not fixed. So I had flushed [over $100]* down the drain. Normally, one would ask, why would not go back and simply ask for them to fix their shotty work. However-this is where the other half of my frustrations lie. I am a visibly queer presenting person and Pep Boys is a traditionally masculine place. This shouldn't matter. But from the moment I walked in the door, I felt dismissed, taken not seriously, and all-around brushed off [from 3 of the 4 employees I interacted with.]* Did this affect how they worked on my vehicle? I can't say. But I do know that my problems were not fixed And I will be taking my money, and my business, to literally ANY other mechanic -------------------------------------------------- After the reply below, I followed through and emailed per recommendation. After some email traffic back and forth, I was told on Wednesday I would be called within 48 hours for someone to try to resolve my problem. They called me the following Monday. The gentleman on the phone offered either a refund or for the mechanics to fix the problems for free. As I didn't want to interact with the local store more than necessary I chose the refund. They asked me to come in, and I asked about it and was asked to wait. I was asked again who I was waiting for and then was redirected to the right gentleman - once speaking with him, the process was amicable and fast and I was able to complete my business and leave. This last part almost made me want to add a star to my overall review, but seeing as "48 hours," took 5 days, I'm not going to. However I AM changing my rating from one to two stars, as I was expecting to have to eat crow but I did get a full refund. So there's that. Absolutely horrible customer service. The guy Dan was so rude and unprofessional. How did he even get a job in customer service? I went in for an oil change and nothing was done after leaving my car there for over 4 hours. Instead of trying to assist and fix the situation, he blamed me for missing my appointment, said he didn't promise a time (which he did) and that I can take back my car if I want to. He gave me a specific time (much longer I can expect if I had an appointment but I was okay with it) and gave no indication of whether it may take longer than that or if they may be overbooked. Why accept a job and give an estimated time if it's not going to be done in a reasonable manner? Own up to your incompetence. That guy Dan made my unpleasant experience even worst. Just once, I would love for my car not to break down at the most inconvenient possible time. Nevertheless, late afternoon on a Saturday, my Prius wouldn't start and all the terrible warning lights were on. I called my neighborhood Pep Boys in desperate hope that they'd be able to take me, and they said they were swamped, but they still agreed to take a look at my car. This wasn't the first time that they've saved me, and I already knew about their amazingly wonderful hours and super friendly service. So I got my car towed there. Not only did these amazing guys not make me feel like an idiot about the totally self caused reason for my car trouble, but they didn't charge me a cent for diagnosing the problem or for the 2 gallons of gas they put in my tank to get my car going. The fact that I'm posting this embarrassing incident at all is a testament to how much I trust and just plain like these guys at Pep Boys. The peaches and jam that I brought to them barely scratch the surface of how grateful I am. read more

This review was going to be 3 stars, but one man at the end of our appointment made it a four. I had an appointment for 5, and we got there a little bit early. It definitely took awhile to get out car "checked in". One of the mechanics proceeded to come in and tell another employee that he wasn't working on a "piece of crap" white car anymore. Totally unprofessional. We walked around and purchased a few items.Our cashier was very friendly. However, after we checked out he proceeded to come over to the waiting area and tried to get all the customers to write "some good" Yelp reviews. I don't mind asking for a review, I mind being told what to say. Overall I was there for an hour and a half. When I finally got up to check on the status of my car, a nice man named Danny told us it shouldn't have taken that long and apologized profusely. He didn't try to up sell, and I was very impressed with him. We'll go back for the prices and the hopes that more of the employees turn out like Danny. read more
