I don't know if the people that work for this company are stupid, or pretend to be stupid, but time and time again, everything that comes out of their auto shop, is worse than when it went in. I'm convinced that the mechanics have never worked on cars before they got this part time job. They overcharge for unnecessary work, and manage to screw up the work that didn't need to be done to begin with. Do not take your car here. They refuse to be held accountable for their mistakes and play stupid when you let them know how they made things words. read more

I made an online reservation to have an oil change for my car on Sunday for Monday at 11:30am. When i got here, they said that their tech was in school and wouldn't be back till later. So, they said to leave the car and come back by 3:00pm. I took an Uber home and an another Uber to pick up my car. When i arrived, they told me my car had not been worked on! I wasted 4 hours of my day waiting for my car to be serviced. I was so disappointed. I drove straight to jiffy lube and and had my car serviced in 15 minutes. read more

(I think I was lucky to get in as a walk in as reading the other good reviews evidently they can be busy so perhaps I was just fortunate in my timing in not making an appt ahead of time) read more

I have to say THANK YOU SO MUCH DANNY AND TO HIS EMPLOYEES who helped me with my tire. Pep boys closes at 8 right when I walked in . I popped my driver front tire and Danny seriously went out of his way to help me by sending 2 of his employees to KMART parking lot where my car was sitting . They drove over to me checked my spare tire and of course it wasn't usuable. When they saw that they drove back to pep boys grabbed my new purchased tire and then drove back to KMART parking lot and put it on for me!!!!!!!!! Worst ever!!!! I had a dead battery brought my car in to check and replace if needed. First of all didn't offer to check status and see if all it needed was a charge. Simply said cost of replacement is 151.00. I said please check and see FIRST if it needs a new battery. Supposedly checked it and told me battery is good, no problem. I asked what could be causing battery to go dead 4 times in 2 days, could it be alternator? He told me that the newer cars (2013 Hyundai) don't have alternators. I thought this strange but accepted his answer and left. My thinking was to wait and see. I again had a dead battery and called Hyundai to see what the problem could be. I was told that possible alternator..... What, he told me my car had no alternator...... This store has no clue about cars and I will NEVER go there again. I took my car to Hyundai and the diagnosis was BAD BATTERY!!! Totally MISDIAGNOSED. BEWARE, do not go here read more

Pep Boys responded to my issue and worked to correct the problem. It still seems that they are understaffed for the amount of work that they take in, but they will correct any mistakes they make. I still suggest making an appointment when you can and being clear about your needs and timeline. I am grateful that they honor their warranties and stand by their work. read more

My girlfriend and I went to Pep boys to get some help with her car passing smog, we had already been to another local shop and it can be frustrating talking about car stuff with mechanics when you don't know much about it. Tim was very helpful and friendly, didn't make us feel like idiots for not knowing about how the catalytic converter worked or that there are two a back & front one. His customer service went to the next level when he gave us several options because they were booked for a week. We took his recommendation and we are more than please. We will defiantly go to pep boys first next time!!! read more

I recently visited this location to purchase some replacement headlight bulbs for my 2000 ford ranger. The staff here was over the top helpful! David helped me figure out exactly which bulbs I needed, and helped me install them (for some reason the model of truck I have is a little more tricky to maneuver than others). I always take our vehicles here for any service needed. We have had tires replaced, hoses replaced, oil changes and our most recent was a mystery issue with the car...those are always fun! ;-) We took our car in not knowing the issue, Pep Boys couldn't figure out the problem either but really, its a big mystery and not causing major concerns. They diagnosed the car for a few hours and didn't charge us for anything because they couldn't find the issue. I signed to pay at least $90 for the diagnostics but we were not charged. AWESOME!!!! Super friendly folks. They are always busy though when working on the cars. Be prepared to leave it there for a bit. But they are busy because they are reliable...so its worth it. read more

If I could give 10 stars, I would. On 4/10 I got a sidewall flat after driving 500 miles and went to pep boys 10 minutes before closing. Dustin Jones picked up that me and my wife were stressing because we were in town to have my son look at CS Chico and we had to be there the next day at 8AM. Dustin and Lucus Travis went out of their way to make sure we were taken care that night! Come to find out that I had 2 other tires that were in bad shape, so I ended getting 4 new tires... which helped us feel confident on our long drive home. Don't go here. They will not respect your time or any inconvenience they cause you. I made an appointment after work for an oil change and they told me an hour. I came back an hour and a half later and the guy working the register says "ha they haven't even started yet ". When I asked how much longer he says "I don't know, the guy is on lunch, can you pick it up tomorrow?" He didn't even offer an apology and seemed to think I was doing him a favor when I asked for my keys back. Then in the morning when I went to drive to work I notice they did not latch my hood. I was do 70 miles an hour and could have been killed. Update I tried contacting their online customer service and have gotten no where. Went here for the first time to get the oil changed on my car. I called ahead to see if they have time for it and they said yes, it would be ready in 1- 1 1/2 hours. I brought it in and dropped it off and was told the same thing. I just called, now 2 1/2 hours since I dropped it off and it was "still being worked on" and was going to take 45 more minutes. This was just an oil change, if they didn't have time today to do it within the time they quoted they should have told me. read more

I showed up for a smog check at 10am. They said it would be about and hour and a half to get it done. I leave and come back at 11:30am they still had not done it. I waited in the lobby for 20 mins where they finally come out and say that they are about to start it, I ask how much longer it will be and they say another hour or so which would make my car done by about 1pm! 3 hours for a smog check!? I took my keys and left. Terrible service, I do not recommend Pep Boys at all. read more

I'll start by saying that I am usually a Napa guy when it comes to purchasing auto parts, HOWEVER, since moving to Chico I find myself going to Pep Boys first when working on a project. The staff is always on top of their game and does a great job to quickly and CORRECTLY help me with whatever it is that I am working on that day. Their tire/service department does a tremendous job at maintaining customer satisfaction; I have purchased two (expensive) set of truck tires from them and they helped me determine what I needed and gave me a great price. Lastly, you just have to love the later hours that they are open as compared to the other shops closing right when you need them the most. read more

I don't appreciate making an appointment a week ago and then being told upon arrival that my vehicle won't even be seen for an hour at the least. Replaced a valve stem, only it didn't fix anything.

I typically only come here for car products. I buy all my parts online because it's way cheaper. My only real gripe is that sometimes it's really hard to check out, there isn't a clear "BUY STUFF AT THIS REGISTER" spot. Usually it's the front corner but there is never anyone standing there. I usually have to flag someone down just to throw money at them. Also only 2./5 times do I get asked for my reward card number. read more

I have taken my car here for most of the work I have needed done while living in Chico. I got my front brakes and rotors done Dec 2012 and I have had them replaced two times times within a year and I just had them replaced AGAIN for the third time this week..... A bit ridiculous if you ask me. As of right now they are already feeling much better then the last two times they have been changed, so I am hoping this is the last time I have to go in for this issue. May 2012 I brought my car in to get my tire fixed and light bulb changed. They started doing an oil change when it wasn't necessary. I ended up getting my oil changed, light bulb replaced and tire patched for free. I gave this rating a four because of the excellent customer service I have received when I gone in with this problem and times before. Richard helped me the last two times I was in. He stayed after closing hours to replace my rotors and took it on himself to replace the brake pads the next time I brought my car in. He even drove my car back to my house for me so I didn't have to come and pick it up again. If you want a dedicated worker, go to him. Danny has also been of great help when I have gone in previously as well. read more

Car broke down on a road trip. Had to take it here because it was the only weekend shop open and I had to leave the next day. When I got there they had their "jeep expert" look at my car. They called and said it was my crankshaft sensor and that it only took them 45 minutes. They charged me $80 diagnostic and $100 in labor on top of a fortune for the small part. This was all fine until a month later my jeep broke down again for the same reason. The local mechanic said the part that was put in was completely wrong. Now I currently am trying to get warranty on this but it is doubtful because "I took it to my local mechanic already instead of back to them" even though I don't have a pep boys near me. read more

Don't go here. They have good coupons so I brought my car in for their 30 minute synthetic oil change, which I made an appointment for 10:00. It's now 12:40 and my car is still on the rack!! When you call they take forever to answer the phone, when I arrived I stood in line for 15 minutes waiting to be helped. Pep boys was alright! But Mike at Pep boys was wonderful and very helpful! So was Jon! MY MAIN PROBLEM: Check engine light and speedometer stopped working on the same day. Other than that, driving fine. JON helped me check my codes on my 1999 Honda Civic and was so friendly and helpful! He wrote down the codes for me and even looked up their meaning on the computer for me. He said it might just be a fuse problem but I decided to make an appointment to have them check for $45 just in case. SECOND PROBLEM: In between making the appointment and arriving at Pep Boys, I had to jump my car about 3 different times. I would drive it for 10 minutes and suddenly everything would shut down. I decided it was a good thing I had made that appt with Pep Boys after all. AT PEP BOYS: They checked my car and told me I needed a new battery and new alternator. Trusting them I said okay and paid $473 out the door (expensive for a college student like me). When they sent me on my way though I still had the check engine light on and the speedometer was moving up and down at random. I DID RESEARCH: Found out these codes (the original problem) may have affected my alternator causing it not to work. I printed out my research. I gave my printed out research to MIKE at pep boys and he guessed that I might be right. He had my old alternator in the store so he checked AND DOUBLE CHECKED it at another car store across the street just to be safe. While it did fail both times (proving that my alternator was a dud and did in fact need replacing) I was very thankful that Mike had gone through so much work of checking it for me at no extra cost. He made me feel as if he cared about my problem, the research I had done, my car, and my money. Very good at communicating! He explained everything to both me and my dad who he talked to over the phone. He also fixed the check engine light and the speedometer-- that ended up being a busted fuse. He didn't try to suck any more money out of me. He knew as well as I did that these codes should have been the first thing to be checked before going into work on the alternator and battery. I was very thankful for Mike and his above & beyond helpful attitude and actions! Richard was also very helpful when I went there to get my tires changed. He was friendly and helped me save money by getting me $10. Got all 4 tires for $373. read more

Make sure your price match!! The worst service in Chico!! After telling me it would be an hr and a half to get my car aligned (totally fine) I took a cab with my infant son to get food at 5pm.. I asked the worker to call me when the car was being worked on.. No call.. At 6:30 (1.5 hrs later) I think to call a cab.. I return at 7..
