Five stars isn't enough! I traded in my SUV about a week ago and immediately had window problems with the new one. As a walk in - Joe, the store manager, was so quick to help and showed me how I could prevent any problems from arising in the future. Unfortunately in the days that followed, I discovered other issues with the control-on and bolts while getting new tires on at another place. Had it towed here late after close. They immediately worked on it the next morning without me having to call and dealt with my warranty company so I'd be 100% covered. I got my car back the same day. It's in great shape. Brooke, Joe and the rest of the team here are extremely kind and honest with the advice they give. They actually care about your safety and where your money goes. They did identify the squeal, did a quick bend something back into place, and presto, no more squeal. I love it when it's a simple problem and a quick fix. The knucklehead confirmed they had it, but revealed enough info to show that he had gotten confused and didn't check on the right part, so off again. Again he says they have it there in stock. I confirmed that they'd be open when I got there and limped the car the 37 miles there only to find that he'd gotten their hours wrong too. Bought tires from an online store I have used many times and this Pep Boys location was listed as an approved installer. They took my car in at the appointment time and completed the work in just over an hour. I went in to this location only because I have a rental that uses this company. I was treated horribly by Carlos from the moment I walked in. He was extremely rude and condescending. I knew I would have to wait for an approval which is no problem. I asked specifically if the repair could be completed today. I was told yes as long as the approval came. I called to check status and was told that once the approval came it was contracted that I had to wait 3-5 hours. I know this is a falsehood. I have used other locations of Pepboys where I was treated with respect, courtesy and professionalism. I will never set foot in this location again. read more

They are criminals. It takes a lot to make me say that, but let's go through the play by play. Brought my car in for something else (they were the only ones in this part of Lafayette open Saturday, and that's the only day I can get my car worked on). They did a brake upsell, yadda yadda. I went with it, I probably *did* need some brake pads, and it wasn't prohibitively expensive. That wasn't the problem. I had another issue (leaking oil pan) in which they mentioned, offhandedly, they'd throw in a oil change. I wasn't so naive as to think they'd literally give me an oil change for free: figured they'd do a basic oil change. Talked to the manager on the phone, asked for detailed itemization of costs, came to $270--I asked specifically if that included tax, and he said it did. So OK. Got there to pick up my car. (Have about three other moderate grievances along the way, but I won't bother detailing them so as to cut to the chase.) Guy says, 'OK, that's $340.' What? Turns out they billed me for the 'Best' oil change, synthetic oil and all that--a $90 oil change. Who among us, when told they would 'throw in' an oil change, would expect that meant we wanted to pay $90 for an oil change? So of course, I argued, and the dude held firm and came back at me with verbal venom, and after enduring a lecture from the garage jockey about my 'attitude'... he eventually rung it up as a basic oil change ($19.95, as one would expect), and tensions receded. And then... they actually DID the oil change. WHAT? You mean, you were trying to bill me for a $90 oil change, pretending you'd already done it, and hadn't even done it yet? So then it was done, it honestly wouldn't shock me if they put sand in my engine--that's the kind of place that was. After spending $270, I had the privilege of driving away thinking they may have intentionally sabotaged my car because I called them on their fraudulent attempt to sneak an appalling upsell by me. This was an amazing service to be honest. I came to switch out my summer tires to my winter tires and also got a very needed alignment done. Probably the best car services I've had. We shared stories and conversed and he updated me regularly on the process. I needed to be out of there by a certain time and he insured me that everything would be completed early. Even offered to buy a drink from the gas station next door! The reviews seem to be not consistent here but I will definitely go back to switch back to my summer tires in a few months. read more

Read all of the reviews before you bring your vehicle to any Pep Boys! I brought my truck to get some work done on February 18, 2018 because I was moving to Arizona and wanted these things taken care of before making the 900+ mile trip. I had a very small coolant leak and my truck felt like it was locked into 4X4. Pep Boys replaced the lower radiator hose, the leak was coming from the connection where the hose makes connection with the engine block. I returned approximately ten times because the coolant continued to leak, ended up being a faulty overflow tank cap. I only had to being it back once since Pep Boys replaced the radiator cap, due to the hose clamps they installed in place of where the radiator hose factory crimp connections were removed. Pep Boys did charge me for a drain and refill labor on top of the removing and replacing the lower radiator hose and admitted they forgot to take off the labor. When you remove the lower radiator hose, the antifreeze will drain automatically, rules of gravity! When I returned to have the coolant leak repaired, I let them know that the truck still felt like it was in 4X4. Pep Boys told me that the front axle U-Joints were faulty and needed to be replaced and they'd give me a discount on the labor to replace these U-Joints. I took my truck to AAMCO to verify if the U-Joints were faulty. AAMCO had my truck for a day and told me the axles are fine and the U-Joints are fine, that my truck is locked into 4X4 and I needed to return and have Pep Boys correct the issue. Pep Boys had my vehicle for twelve days and their diagnosis was a bad GEM module, the GEM module which was on back order from Ford. Pep Boys told me that it should be fine to make it to AZ as long as I didn't engage the 4X4 and to bring it to a Pep Boys Superstore when I get to Arizona and have them replace the GEM module. I made the 900+ mile trip to Arizona with the front spindles locked into 4X4 and when I got to Arizona it was making a loud squeaking noise. I brought it to a Pep Boys when I got to Arizona and they sprayed some WD-40 on the rubber that was making the squeaking noise. About a week later, the noise came back. I brought my truck back to Pep Boys and they put some axle grease between in the spot that was making the squeaking noise. The Arizona Pep Boys test drove my vehicle and said that it's not locked into 4X4. End result is that my truck is still locked into 4X4 and I'm waiting for the grease to wear down and the rubber to make the squeaking noise again! I spent over $2000.00 just for Pep Boys to make the original repairs and a lot more money in missed work, rental cars and inconveniencing a lot of people for rides. I placed a complaint with the BBB today and will update this post if Pep Boys makes it right by at least a full refund. Pep Boys doesn't deserve the one star, but unfortunately I didn't have the option to give them 0 stars! read more

Went in for a high mileage oil change. The guy who rung me up insisted that i get this upgrade to "change your oil twice since it's been so long we will have to do two oil changes" tbh I didn't know anything at the time and just wanted it over with so I said whatever but I ended up paying about 100$ for a oil change. Afterwards I had people I knew tell me I was scammed, so I went to call about it and schedule another one months later (yesterday) for another oil change. I called asking what it was they charged since "cleaning the oil twice since it's so dirty" isn't a thing and makes no sense. The guy was actually really helpful and kind. But when I asked to speak with the manager to help reassure I wouldn't be scammed again, the manager got on the phone and ruined all this guys good work. He wouldn't stop screaming at me, and called me stupid and entitled. He said he was the one who checked me out that day and that I was lying, and I'm on the phone trying to get one sentence out as he's working himself up screaming over me saying "I didn't have to take the package if I didn't want to" I said "as someone coming in not knowing anything, you did that on purpose, I get it's your job to upsell stuff but that's taking advantage of people, how the hell am I, a 21 year old girl supposed to know everything about cars?" And he proceeded to scream at me. Honestly, all I was looking for was an affirmation that I wasn't going to be scammed again. And he proceeded to spend the whole call yelling at me why I deserved it? He didn't stop screaming so I had to hang up with a "never mind I'll go somewhere else, have a nice day" THIS WAS THE MANAGER SPEAKING TO ME LIKE THIS. Hi everyone. I rarely post bad reviews but I just had a horrible experience. I went to AutoZone and paid 50 dollars for headlights. Most places will help put in your headlights for you. Autozone told me that they don't do this and that I can go to pepboys. When I got to Pepboys, they told me it would be 5O bucks to replace a headlight. It only takes like 5 minutes to do so on my car. I was getting ready to leave and then they finally said okay 10 dollars per light. I signed and swiped my credit card. The mechanic changed my lights. Ten minutes later I get this horrible voicemail saying that I didn't pay and that they were gonna give my information to the Lafayette police department. I mean wtf. So I called them and I told them I signed and paid 22 dollars and some change with tax. Basically the man that works there hung up on me and treated me like I'm some sort of a criminal after I clearly paid. Please please do not go to this place. This is by far the WORST shop I've ever been to! After botching my brake job so badly that I needed to have it REDONE by someone else, the manager Bob refused to give me a refund. He is the rudest and most careless person. I cannot believe these fools are still in business! Guys- This place ripped us off. I don't like putting bad stuff on the web about anything or anybody, but these guys put aftermarket parts on my car that actually damaged my car's rotors. Then they suggested that we needed to change the shocks on the vehicle asap. This was later proved to be only worn rotors by the dealership. It is not worth the absolutely NOT $99.88 (more like $650-700) to have to end up at a dealership who at least knows your vehicle. Just go there first or find a mechanic that you trust. read more

1 star is probably generous. BAIT AND SWITCH is a well known practice here. I watched a girl come in with a coupon for a $17 oil change and without telling her the cost beforehand left with a $240 bill. We came in for a $99 brake pad replacement and was told all the calipers needed replaced and that it would be around $1200 to do this on a car with only 50,000 miles on it. My husband has done many brake jobs and we knew they were just trying to get us to pay more for something that wasn't needed. read more

I brought my Nissan Pathfinder in on a Thursday for an evaluation for a brake fluid leak on my rear right brake. The shop called and said it would be around 500 or so...not knowing much about rear drum brakes I said okay. They then called me day after day saying they kept getting the wrong parts. Long story short, I got my car back a week later for a job that was supposed to take a day. Terrible service and the manager didn't compromise at all for how long it took even as the mechanic apologized and said they could probably do something. This place is a joke. Do not take your car here, or if you do make sure they can get the "right" parts before agreeing to let them work on your car! Also, I had them look at my front end which I knew was not tight. They told me everything was real tight and looked good. After finally getting my car after a week with excuse after excuse...I went to road masters down the road and they properly identified all the parts and bearings that needed replacement. These guys are not mechanics and are known for using aftermarket parts when they can. read more

I am writing to post a complaint about todays encounter.   I had made an appointment through the website for a 430 appointment for an oil change.  Upon arriving at the store, I was told it would be 2-2.5 hours before someone could even get to my car because everything was "a little backed up."  I explained I had an appointment for 430 pm and that I had made the appointment for exactly this reason.  I was told "Yeah well the website allows people to make appointments but really its when we can get to your car."   I was asked if I wanted to reschedule at which time I stated what is the point of rescheduling or having appointments at all if they are not honored.   Or, at the least, if you have our information in your system because we MADE AN APPOINTMENT, how about reaching out to let us know you are hours behind schedule.    I actually had to coordinate a babysitter this afternoon and drive across town to make this appointment.  This was total and completely unacceptable.  You have lost my business and my families business and I plan on sharing the encounter on our NextDoor and Facebook neighbor hood pages.  Unbelievable. read more

They charged me as much as they possibly could: used high mileage oil even though the vehicle has less than 40k miles, did not fill the tires with air, did not reset the lights even though they charged for it. This was my main car repair shop since 2017, but starting in 2019, I noticed the manager Jamie was gone, and thing went down hill fast. I made a brake appointment in 2019, showed up, was told they mistakenly gave my appointment to somebody else and I had to wait three days for a new one. Later in 2019, I showed up for an appointment to get my AC refreshed, showed up, and was told the AC technician drank a bottle of anti-freeze and nobody else was qualified to do the work so sorry. The last straw was today, when I made an appointment for suspension work, which is under warranty by their shop, appointment was confirmed for 8am, I show up, and the guy at the desk says, sorry, they only do oil changes, no repair work anymore. So take my advice, they will sell you a bill of goods, then when you show up, say the opposite and waste your time, go elsewhere, one of the homeless people hopped up on meth in Boulder would be more dependable. read more

The best thing I can say about this business is that they replace brakes and they are open on weekends. Do not user this shop for anything other than brakes and GET A SECOND opinion on all repairs they tell are necessary. The quality is lower every year. BEWARE. I have been a customer for a number of years. I purchased the lifetime warranty when you opened. I subsequently purchased a second lifetime warranty package around 2 years ago. (great job, huh!!) Frankly, I have been trying to get my money's worth out of these programs. Just Brakes shop replaced my rear brakes last fall. A few months later, I had the front pads replaced. I was informed that my rear brakes were 80% worn. The mileage between visits was 8000 miles. So, I had brakes with 80% wear at 20% through their 40-50,000 mile warranty. Knowing the predatory methods of Just Brakes, I learned that I cannot rely on Just Brakes for an accurate depiction of the maintenance needed on my car. I took it in for a second opinion. Indeed, the new brake pads were 80% worn. Obviously, a poor installation leading to excessive wear. I've never had a service without an estimate of at least $500 in 'necessary' repairs. I asked for a verification of the wear on the rear brakes. No change. In addition, the shop wanted extra money to turn the rotors on the front brake pad installation. I.E. the $89 fee I had been quoted and have paid in the past, was no longer sufficient to replace my pads**** under warranty.***** I believe that, like the front brakes where I had to have another company "correct" the issue from my most recent service, the installation of the rear brakes was poor workmanship which resulted in the failure. I see by reading your reviews that my experience is not unique. BTW- no one in their customer service department is answers the phone. SURPRISE! Unless you are desperate for a shop open on weekends, do yourself a favor and keep driving to the next business. read more

I took my car in to have the Air Conditioner fixed. I was told I also needed front and rear shocks/struts. I paid $910 for parts and labor. I gave the money to an employee named Trevor. I was told the parts are on there way. I waited for over an hour. I was then told Trevor had been fired and he took off with my money! I wasn't given a receipt and they are refusing to fix my car that I had already paid for! I have no choice but to take them to court. They lied and then lied about lying. The service they did render was harmful. My family and I were going to take a round trip of 1100 miles. Our brakes were squeaking so we took the 2006 Honda Pilot to Just Brakes in Lafayette for service. We expected to pay $400+ for pads. The recommended service was ~$1400 in repairs to shocks, struts and brakes. When pressed, Brian told me that there was no safety issue driving the car in its current condition. I contacted a trusted mechanic in the town I would be visiting, and he told me he'd check it out and make the repairs for a couple hundred dollars less. I had Just Brakes change the oil, but I asked them to hold off on the other repairs. The trusted mechanic, who already had a ~$1200 commitment from me reported that there was no problem with the shocks or struts, and the brake pads had a good 13,000 miles remaining on them. He had no reason to lie to me. He had only to gain $1200 from an out-of-towner. On my way home, the engine oil light came on to notify me that my oil life remaining was 15%. After going fewer than 1,000 miles, it seems that I should have in the neighborhood of 70% oil life remaining, right? I called Brian at Just Brakes and explained the situation. He assured me that his mechanic is ASE certified, and that their corporate policy is to root out and fire employees who improperly diagnose. I expressed that the mechanic I took the Pilot to out of town had no incentive to lie, unless he just didn't want my money. Brian insisted that his station was truthful in their evaluation. So he stood by what was blatantly a lie to get money for an unneeded service at a slightly exorbitant price. When questioned about the oil, he told me he'd have to look at the car again. There is absolutely no way Just Brakes of Lafayette will ever see my car again. I'd have to be pretty desperate or stupid to take it back to the place where I know that they (1) tried to rip me off and (2) couldn't change my oil. read more
