Really disappointed. Made an appointment. It took 3-1/2 hours for an oil change. Price was OK, not great. 2days later, I get a warning message to check my oil level. An oil change with new filter takes 6.9 quarts. They charged me for 7. Turns out my oil was 1 quart low. in looking at my bill more closely to see what they charged me for, I see they charged me $9.99 to re-set the oil level monitor! While I was at it, I checked my tire pressures. All 4 needed air, one needed 15 lbs? So now I wonder. Did I get a new oil filter? Did they perform the "free" 20 point inspection? I came here this morning thinking it was gonna be an In-N-Out thing. I needed to get my car registered to drive Lyft. When I first got there a little everybody just looked at me. Nobody said good morning. No nothing. Finally one guy did come in I think he was the manager. He told me somebody would be right with me to help me. Finally when the cashier was done with somebody I was next. When I told him what I was there for he said OK you gotta go to that counter over there. I went over there. There was a lady there. Now we go through all the motions to do what I need to do and she told me that I needed to turn in my VIN number and etc. So I'll go outside and start filling out the application but I forgot the VIN number. When I come back in, I'm just standing there waiting on her to come back cause I don't know where she went. I stood there at least 10 minutes patiently waiting. So finally, I turned, I said where is the lady at that was right here. So the guy called her name she came out. So then she said oh well you forgot these things can you go back and do it? I went back. I'll come back. She's not there again and now I'm just standing here and it was three people that three other cash register. Sister is doing nothing. Nobody looked up. Everybody was on their phones. I'll never come back here again, and I normally come here, but never again thumbs down. read more

If I could I would give them a 10/10! The day before I had the worst experience at another place to get my oil changed. I figured I would need new tires, but with the experience I was having with them, they only did the oikd change and then didn't top me off! Came here to get my tires. Hats off to Rosario and the whole crew that was there. Rosario definitely took care of me and understood my situation. Later that evening the oil light came on! Since I knew this location was open, I called and explained Ed the situation. I at least just wanted to make sure there was oil. NOPE! Mario took care of me. I brought my car for an alignment and they did not deliver the service I expected. I recently bought four new tires and as part of any car's maintenance I took my car in for an alignment. They took my information and advised me it would take approximately two hours to complete the order. I went home and got a call with in 45 minutes telling my car was ready for pick up. Upon driving out the car from their parking lot I immediately noticed the car was not alignment correctly. I returned the car the next day requesting that they re-examine the vehicle as I suspected nothing was done. Sure enough they confirmed the car was not aligned correctly (I suspect the car was probably not worked at all). I had to wait another hour to have them align the car. I don't recommend bringing your vehicle here as they are not honest and thorough. The staff seems to be indifferent about the work they produce as they did not even apologize for the second trip they made me take. The Pep Boys in Long Beach on PCH is losing a would have been loyal customer and I'm sure I won't be the last as you can see by other previous reviewers. read more

I made an appointment to drop off my vehicle at 11 am. I arrived at 10:51 and there was no one at any of the service counters. I could hear them behind a partition wall. It must've been their break time. A few minutes after 11 three people came out and went to their respective register and proceeded to make calls. I stood there waiting for another 10 minutes. Finally one person said "can I help you?" I waited for over 15 minutes before anyone helped me. I told the person I had a 11am drop and she showed me the price. I told her I had the $50 coupon per axle and I wanted the premium service. She did some stuff and changed the pricing, but I said I wanted the premium service not the standard as shown in the print out. I finally said " no thanks" and left the store. First of all, why was the service counter left unattended? They were polite but when you see a customer standing and waiting I would think someone should address the customer first instead of making calls or answering phone calls. That really annoyed me. Watch out for part swaps at Pep Boys E. Pacific Coast Hwy Long Beach. My son took his vehicle in for a rear break job. His battery (purchased at a competitor and still under warranty) needed a quick charge. So Pep Boys said they would charge the battery so my son could take the battery back to the competitor and swap out under warranty. When the competitor pulled the battery it did not match the one under warranty. It was instead a lower quality battery. The competitor said that unfortunately this is not the first time they have seen this. They stepped up and swapped his battery none the less. So beware of parts swap at Pep Boys Long Beach. read more

It's been a while but decided to go back, and the service was 10x better than what had happened before. I did come mentally prepared for a delayed start time and unrealistic long service times. Neither was the case. The technician(?)/associate who helped me get checked in (Betty) was awesome and prompt, gave me a realistic time frame when the job could be completed, kept me informed of updates, and closed me out on time. So, you have a problem with your car. You're totally stressed out??? You're afraid it will be super expensive??? Never fear! Pep Boys will be here to overcharge you for parts (like 5 times what the part should cost), greatly exaggerate the time the repair will take so they can overcharge you for labor (2 or 3 times what it should take), and my personal favorite they will up sell you so hard on random services you won't even be sure what you actually need done for your car to be back to normal. If you want to dump out your wallet on the floor you might as well go to the dealership because they charge similar prices here. At least at the dealer you'll know they're familiar with the issues your car may have and you get branded parts. But ultimately don't do either. There's plenty of repair shops with great reviews so my advice is to use one of those. read more

Today I arrived there the first thing I noticed a technician recklessly driving off the shop, someone else vehicle! Anyhow so I went there for a rideshare vehicle inspection ( something as simple as checking lights, tire tread depth,etc) the lady (Rocio) that did the inspection purposely verbaly fail the test stating that the tires need to be replaced and that either I replaced them before 5pm and go back so she can pass the test or come back the next day and pay another $20. The tires are good. I'm not stupid to do what she probably thought I was going to buy from them new tires. So instead, I went to Jiffy Lube to do the same simple inspection and guess what they promptly took care of me in less than 10 minutes. I was out with an approbed inspection! When back to pepboys and showed Rocio the approbed inspection so she can refund me the $20 , but nope, they don't do refunds she said! Got ripped off for a 5 minutes inspection! Paid musician doesn't play good music! Overall, I felt that I walked into a corrupted public service agency from a Latin America country. read more

I scheduled an 'appointment' for 11 am and did not receive any attention to my vehicle until after 11:30, nor was I provided any updates. I was then told that multiple customers are scheduled for the same time slot. All I was having done was to change the light bulb in my headlamp. It took the technician 5 minutes when he finally got to it. Now that I know how it's done, I will do it myself next time. I am extremely dissatisfied with the customer service since Pep Boys has split off their parts business to Advanced Auto. Their new customer service staff leaves much to be desired. I took my car in for an oil change on Wednesday 11/09. After 3 hours, I received a call saying they had to break my oil cap and engine oil housing filter in order to do my oil change. I went into the shop to go pick up my car and the technician verbatim said, "We can not get to the oil without breaking and replacing oil housing filter and filter cap." To which I responded, "Ok so you didn't do the oil change?" To which the technician said no. I then asked what was going on and I was told they couldn't get the cap off. So they have to break it. I asked how much it would cost to replace it and was told the housing filter was $208.80 and the cap was $130.42 plus they added a warranty that they didn't even ask me if I wanted it of $35.50. Basically the oil change was going to cost me $498.13! They were the ones who did my last oil change and never mentioned anything being wrong. Also, they sent me a auto inspection report that same day while I was waiting for my car to be serviced and nothing on that report said anything about replacing the oil housing filter or oil cap. Anyway, I told the technician no thank you and that I would go somewhere else. I was told they were bringing my car out and to wait for my keys. I got my keys and I drove out of the driveway. Before I could get to the signal, my car started making the craziest noise and all the lights came on on my dashboard saying low oil volume. My car then started driving terribly and so I just turned right back around to the shop. I walked in and asked them what they did to my car. My car was totally normal before I took it there. I asked if they drained all the oil out and not replace my oil? And how did they drain the oil when I was told they couldn't even get to it unless they broke my oil cap? Apparently the tech who was working on my car drained the oil, didn't tell anyone he didn't finish, and went to lunch." To this day I don't even know exactly what happened other than after being told they couldn't get to the oil, they somehow did manage to drain the oil, then never put oil in my car and let me drive off. My engine almost ceased and my car has since been making a weird sound. After all of this, they were actually going to charge me for the oil change even though they didn't even do it. I told them something had to be done. The response I got was that they will not charge me for the oil housing filter and just charge me for the oil cap. Then I was told nevermind that we will just add new oil to replace what they drained and not charge me for the oil. I am not sure what is going on with this Pep Boys but their service has become terrible and definitely unreliable. Here is a photo of the work order/invoice they gave me. Most importantly though, they claimed to not be able to get to the oil, somehow drained my car of all the oil, then told me they did the oil change after all, and then let me drive off with an empty oil tank that nearly ceased my engine. I had been a loyal customer but I will never take my car here again. I am so disappointed with their dishonesty and irresponsibility. read more

If I could give negative stars I would! Brought my daughter's car to them because shortly after the last time we spent over $1,200 it wouldn't start. My daughter who is not a mechanic said she wondered if it was the starter. The person who helped her lied and said you cannot diagnose the problem, the only way to know is by replacing the starter! The mechanic in our family told us that's total BS and they could have diagnosed it easily. Needless to say got it home and it still won't start! Called and spoke to the assistant manager who was a total jerk! He blamed my daughter for not knowing why her car wouldn't start! They advertise being able to visit any PepBoys location, however, when you arrive, they tell you to return to the original service location.
