Took over 3 hours to replace headlights bulbs. Charged over $150 ... such a rip off! Will never come back here again !

I usually don't go to pep boys because I feel like they up-charge on everything. But since it was a holiday I didn't have much of a choice. The headlights on the car were out, and after replacing both bulbs they still were not working. Took the vehicle to pep boys and it turned out to be an electrical issue. They were pretty fast with fixing it. I dropped off the car around 11am. It was ready for pickup by 1pm. It didn't cost an arm and a leg to fix, under $150. read more

I needed a Lyft inspection and although Pep Boys is cheaper than Jiffy Lube, (which by the way, JL does not perform Lyft inspections), Pep Boys has failed in Customer Service. This is my third time here because the person who does the inspections was not available. They said to call first to make sure she is in. I called and called and called. Then I called a different location (Carson), but they told me to come in later. Again they only have one person who can perform the inspections according to Pep Boys, so I decided to drive to the Long Beach Pep Boys since they weren't answering. When I arrived the person who helped me said the person doing the inspection was arriving at 11am... So I waited...it is now 11:15am and no one has showed up. Not only is this a waste of time, they lack customer service skills. I was treated rudely each time I had a question and ignored when I asked where the bathroom was until I finally shouted hey where is the bathroom?! I think it's stupid to have an inspection in the first place, especially when it's a brand new car but policy is policy, right! If I am paying for a service it shouldn't matter what or how much it is, A paying customer should be treated with a little more dignity, If you don't like your job, find a new one! Business relies on good rapport and competitive pricing. If I wasn't saving a measly $10, and this being the closest location to me, I would find a better place to get this done! My Daughter brought her Mini Cooper in due to the car sputtering/vibrating upon acceleration. I live in Northern California so it's not like her uncle and I could just drive down and check it out. My brother is a mechanic btw, this will be important later. Anyway I tell her to take it to Pep Boys as she's had work done there before and it was late in the evening and first day of class was the following day so not a lot of places open at that time. Pep boys takes it runs a diagnostic and finds that she needs to replace her spark plugs, one coil and a gasket. Not a big deal mechanically/costly speaking so I figured the price would be relatively low. They end up quoting her close to $1,200. Immediately red flags are going off but my brother is more knowledgeable than I am with prices so I tell him what the issues were and what they were charging. He immediately was like, they're trying to rip your daughter off. The cost for what they described including parts and labor should be around $350.00. Where they're getting $1200 from he has no idea. So I call and speak first to the mechanic (didn't get his name) and ask wtf? He tries to give me the song and dance about that's the norm price wise so I say I think you're trying to take advantage of my daughter, let me speak to the manager! (Yes total Daren move but F it) Manager comes on after like 4-5 minutes of me being on hold and admittedly was a nice guy, however when I asked where they were getting that outlandish price from he said that parts would be nearly $700. Since when do spark plugs, a coil and a rubber gasket cost that damn much? I told him look we have mechanics in the family I asked my brother how much a job like this would cost and he said around $350. The manager says well if you can get the parts and bring them then we can do the work and the price would decrease. At this point I had enough of the bs and told them just put my daughters car back on the ground she'll take it somewhere else. I know the tone of this review would typically include something along the lines of "and the customer service was rude and shitty" but the truth is that even though they were obviously trying to rip my daughter off both the manager and the mechanic I spoke to were relatively nice about everything. Just not nice enough for me to forget about the price gouging though. My daughter gets her car back and takes it to Napo Major Auto Repair. They take a look and gave her a quote. Can you guess how much they quoted? Drum roll please.....$400 which is very close to the $350 my brother the mechanic said it would be. So where does that leave Pep Boys? If you want to speak to super nice people and have a great conversation then hands down go to Pep Boys but if you're looking for honesty matched with honest prices, then I'd avoid this place like a two dollar hooker with open sores on their face because you're guaranteed to feel like you got ripped off and not like what you came away with. read more

I just needed air in my tire and was told to pull up in lane 1 or 2. I did so and the mechanics gave me dirty looks and looked at me like I was crazy. No one acknowledged me or asked why I was there and so I was ignored for twenty minutes. I went inside to use the restroom. At least they have one, but I'm sorry to report it was very dirty and smelled like urine. I decided to leave and no one even looked up from what they were doing as I left. Waited 30 mins for Vanessa to just acknowledge my existence as she took 3 people who came after me and helped them. Other workers in the shop asked if I needed help u fortunately she was the only person who could assist me. Without even a greeting, she told me there would be a charge for the service which previously wasn't there. When I asked her when they started charging, she said "Monday" (aka yesterday). I made an appointment and no one told me about this. Also, as I was walking out there were about two other angry people. This Pep boys is trash. Never going there again... Go anywhere but here. They do not care about customer service. They were way overbooked And too busy to care. I scheduled an appointment online and reserved my tires several days ahead of time. Got there for my 2:00pm appointment and was told it would be at least an hour later. Thankfully I had someone who could come and pick me up because 3 hours later at 5pm I received a call saying they had just gone to pull the tires off the shelf and they only had 2 of the 4 I had reserved. I was told I have 2 choices: 1) get 2 tires today and come back tomorrow for the other 2 or 2) come back tomorrow for all 4. I said I'm pretty sure I DO have another choice and that is to not get tires at PEPBoys. They could have cared less. Never got an apology. Came here the uber inspection lady. Before she charged i asked. Are you going to check my car before you charge me? She was like we charge you even if you fail or not. I told her theres another store(not pepboys) does inspection free and charge me if i pass. Then she gave me an Attitude told me to go over there "you don't have to do it with us". Three times now I've made an appointment to have my oil changed (a 30 minute task) and I arrive for them to tell me it'll be an hour or more wait before my car is even started. Today was the last straw. Made an apppintment for 3pm, spoke to Mario...this was at 10am or so. I arrived at 2:55pm and Mario was at the counter, he told me it would be an hour and a half. She knows her job very well. She listened to what my concerns were and kept me updated as we were waiting for a tire. Her quote was accurate and handled my case very professionally. The work that was done was fairly quick. It often takes longer here; because they do a good job and they are always busy. Their prices are competitive also. Mario the manager is fair and always wants to make sure customers are taking care of. They will always do their best to make it right. I would be weary before getting any work done on your car here. I came in for an Uber inspection to discover that one of my front headlights went out. I went to autozone to get the bulb but they didn't have the correct part. Pep boys told me that I'd lose out on my inspection money if I didn't come back with it fixed before 5, so I headed back to see if they could fix it. The first quote I got was for $40ish, that ended up being the wrong bulb. The second quote I got was for a whopping $369 ... I was baffled. $369 to replace one headlight bulb seemed ridiculous!!! I have a frigging Kia not a fancy af Mercedes. So of course I walked away, wasting my $20 in the process. I found the bulb on Amazon for $68 and bought it. It came next day and took me less than 2 mins to install it. Now, in a capitalistic society people can charge whatever they want for a service, I get that! However, there is such a thing as price gauging and that's exactly what I feel like happened here. Completely trash! Brung my fleet car in for a flat tire at 3:00 pm. The worker told me two hours for an oil change and tire replacement, ok cool. I come back at 6:00 and find out my car needed to be authorized to be worked on and that they hadn't started the work yet. She comes back five minutes later to inform me that they had to get approval to add new breaks she said that would take an hour and 20 minutes max. It's now 8:43 and I'm just leaving. I took my car here to have it serviced. When I received my bill they charge a lot of small frivolous fees. I spoke to the manager to see why there were so many additional charges. He said that it's normal. For example they change $99.99 just to check the car. Typically that fee is removed when you have the service done at the shop. Here they keep the fee on even if you service your vehicle there. When I had the battery changed. They charge 5 additional fees on top of the battery charge, instillation, pep boys battery kit and disposal fee. By the time you are done your bill is high. read more

Not sure why my post went down but I will write it again so that others may be weary of this business. I took it in for brakes and they took days to get back to me. Eventually they tell me it's more than just breaks took it apart and when they put it back together it was in worse shape then when I left it. It had zero brakes I had to drive it to another mechanic and be very slow and cautious that I wouldn't crash. The customer service is not very great the people in the front desks have no idea what they are talking about yet act as if they do. They aren't mechanics the people in the back are and most the time they are just sitting around prolonging your car making it seem like it is such s big deal. I stopped at Pep Boys to get a set of tires. I had already done my research and knew what I wanted. I was told it would be 4 hours. I asked if they had the tires in stock and was told they did. I said if you don't have them in stock I can make an appointment for tomorrow morning to come back and get them. The gentleman I was talking to said No, No we have them in stock, and I said are you sure? He assured me they were in stock. I asked why it would take 4 hours to change 4 tires and was told "well it will be at least 2 hours no matter where you go". I decided to just wait and get the tires. From where I was sitting I could see that they pulled my car in and put it on the lift within 30 minutes. After 2 1/2 hours, not seeing anyone touching my car. I asked another employee if he could check and see what the delay was. He went into the shop and came back and said "we only had three of the tires in stock and my manager had to go pick the other one up at another Pep Boys". I was furious. I said it would have been nice if I was informed of this before they took the tires off of my car and wasted 3 hours of my time. I should have been informed when they found that they only had 3 of the tires and given the option to either wait or come back the next day. I would have come back the next day. He apologized and said that he did not know which car the tires were for that they had to go and get. I asked him to check and see how long it would be and he called the person that went to get the tire and he said he would be back in 30 minutes. Almost an hour later I see the employees putting the tires on my car. I was so angry that I barely said a word while paying for my tires. I was not offered an apology for the delay, in fact the man never mentioned it. I will not be going back to this Pep Boys in the future. The service staff are great and always helpful. Madhur was really great when it came down to replacing my friend's shocks and struts. Ramon was also helpful with my battery casing. I suggest you make an appointment online to minimize wait time and possibly get extra discount. Parking is also plenty here so it's easy. As far as location, Starbucks is next building over so you can relax and wait there or cross the street and eat at plenty of restaurants around the area. Updated: FYI There's a reason why my mother was giving a new rewards member on her vehicle profile is because the one on file no longer live in the household. But the person who helped her insisted that there's already one on file....since I'm the one that made reservations online and used my email for my mother's reservations, I just got a Thank You email for signing up for new rewards card when we didn't want a new one. 1 Star is 5 stars too many for this place. I have been bringing my car here for 2 years for routine simple maintenance - oil change, tire rotation, brakes, alignment. Every time i come in they find a way to screw up and take no accountability for it. I'm a believer in giving companies more than one chance to make things right, but this location has proved themselves worthless. Appointments do not matter to them, warranty does not matter to them, wasting customers time does not matter to them, not completing maintenance requests does not matter to them. Never do they take accountability for their screw ups, it's a shrug of the shoulders and me being told I have "bad luck" with my poor experiences at Pep Boys that the staff acknowledges I've had - HAHAH!!!!!!!!!!
