Was very happy with my service. Never purchased tires before and they helped guide me through the different tires to choose from. I didn't feel like they were trying to pull an easy sale out of me at all. (Which I did expect to happen) It was extremely busy and I didn't mind because I did just walk in on a Saturday afternoon. I really wish I got the name of the mechanic working on my car. He constantly gave me updates as to my time frame even though I wasn't in a hurry. This store said a nail was not repairable because it was too close to the sidewall.. They also said that I needed 4 new tires because my tires were getting too old, which would cost $700. I called around and found a much better price at Discount Tire. When I arrived at Discount Tire they inspected by tire and told me that I did not need new tires and that they may be able to fix the tire. Ultimately, the were able to fix the tire and did so for free. read more

I went in for a basic oil change today not expecting to be taken advantage of and robbed. James L. was the mechanic who worked on my my car and the manager on duty was Nickolas S. I keep a very expensive bottle of cologne in my console at all times. When my car was returned to me I noticed my console wouldn't close properly and when I looked inside my cologne was missing. As I turned around to head back to the store I realized that my amazon box had been opened and items in the box were misplaced. When I went back to find out what happened with my stuff they showed me the cameras which have obstructed views of the garage, which none had views of outside. The manager was very rude and seem to not care about anything I had to say and walked off repeatedly as I was giving him the details of the incident. He simply had no regard for the situation and lacked empathy. I was very displeased as I was a very loyal pep boys customer. They will no longer receive any of my business as I am canceling my Pep Boys Reward Membership. read more

I've hated this place since I bought u-joints from them. One of the caps broke during install. When I went to return it, I was basically accused of trying to scam them since the part was "dirty". I ended up cursing the manager and eating the $15. I went next door to advance auto parts and bought another one. I certainly don't need to, or have the time to scam someone out of $15. I asked that manager if $15 was worth losing a customer for good, she replied "yes". She got her wish. read more

On Thursday afternoon I had hoped to be able to get a walk-in oil change as I have done in the past, never thinking that covid19 would effect that. Neal shook his head and I was told that I could not get an appointment until at least Wednesday next week (he never even looked...seemed quite stressed). I left the store and went out to my car, brought up the website, and was thrilled to get an appointment for Saturday (today) at noon. So I arrive at 11:45 for the 12:00 appointment, only to be told that I will have a 3-4 hour wait AND it is drop-off only because the waiting room is closed....... what is the point of making an "appointment" when it cannot even be somewhat loosely adhered to????? Then they said "it's just like at the doctor's office..." I was at both the doctor and the dentist this past week, had appointments for both, and they both called me into the back to be seen within 15 minutes of the appointment. This is why we make APPOINTMENTS!!! I understand, to a degree, that there will be things that will make the times fluctuate, but to say that they "should be able to have it done in 3-4 hours" is totally crazy! I phoned a nearby competitor and was told that they could get me in on Monday and that they would definitely adhere to the scheduled appointment time (within reason). Drove to another nearby competitor on my way home, and without an appointment I waited for only 20 minutes to get in and I received awesome service there! read more

God. If I could write a review without having to give this place any stars, I would. I stopped by a couple of months ago to get a new battery for my car, thinking it would be a pretty simple in and out in a couple minutes type of thing. It was not. Are you surprised? I'm not. Because this place fucking sucks. They constantly try to up sell you. You can never just walk in and get what you need. You leave with like 6 radiators, a steering wheel cover, & some spinners. All I needed was a 200 dollar battery. I didn't really notice how badly they were trying to scam me till today when I went to have my windshield wipers replaced.... I went in there, told them what I needed, they tried to sell me some shit I really didn't need, then they eventually went to go replace them with the ones I wanted. Of course those didn't fit right. (I don't even know if that's true or not.. I wouldn't put it past them) so then without asking me they put on another wiper that I did not choose, that was totally out of my price range ... Once it was on they came to inform me what was up and told me the more expensive one was the only thing that fit and that I need to put two on there or it would "look funny". I politely told them that I was on a budget and that I would have to come back another day ... This is when the gentleman gave me an attitude. He asked rudely if I wanted him to take the wipers off, as if I asked to have 40 dollar wipers put on in the first place, and then went outside to the other mechanics who were raising hands and rolling eyes at the situation, which I saw through the window that they could also see me through. How professional. Let me just remind you I didn't ask for any of this. They removed them eventually and I was just done at that point. I left and will never return again. Pepboys usually has done really well for me. I took my car and Clifford an employee of 18 years with Pepboys took the car. I was very specific what I wanted done. Later I came to pick the car up and only the oil change and fuel filter got changed. He told me due to the year of my car he cant pull the code. It required an "special connection." He knew that before I had them do any work on my car, but he never told me that. I called corporate and they were very specific that Clifford was incorrect that they could pull the codes. The manager at Pepboys called and was very rude. She only offered to clean the center console where the Technician got grease all over the fabric. I appreciated the kind gesture, but ended up not going back in due to their lack of attention. I didn't want to trust them with my car ever again. I will never use Pepboys again. They were rude, dishonest and unprofessional. read more

I am extremely pleased with my service at Pep Boys in Matthews, NC. First let me say that everyone there was extremely friendly with me when I came in last night with this loud squeekie noise coming from my front wheels. The sale associate Sea was very patient with me as I was trying to explain what this noise was and how annoying it is and trying to find out what is wrong with my car. She explained that the newer cars have these sensors that let you know when you need brakes. So I was relieved to know that my car was not seriously broke. She had one of the mechanics look at my car for FREE to see exactly if that was the cause of the noise. She gave me a time estimate when the mechanic could fit me in and it was not that long of a wait for someone who did not have an appointment. Next this gentlemen by the name of Robert walked me over to the customer waiting room and he was even very delightful and playful as we walked and talked.... I really liked the nickname he gave me "Ms. Adidas" since I had on my Adidas work-out gear as I rush over to Pep Boy right from the gym. However, I did need new brakes and rotors both Sea and Robert help explain to me the details of why I needed new rotors since my car never had a brake job in three years. They did not do that try to sell me extra stuff or up sales or over sale tactics. Sea and Robert just keep it simple, " here is what the mechanic found, here is what you need, this is what you are getting, and this is how much it will cost." They even offered me a coupon to use with my purchase that I was not aware of that I qualified for..... NOW THAT IS SERVICE. So I am very pleased with job they did my car drives great and I will be back for more work. I will need tires soon and I am coming back to Pep Boys because they did not try to force me into buying anything extra... they just said "you will need tires soon"...... read more

This is actually the worse car service experience I've ever had. I went in for what was to be a simple brake change. 139.99 special with a Mail in rebate. I got there at my appointment time. Walked down to have some lunch, got a call that it was going to cost me over 678.00. I now needed front and back pads, brake flush, had to use the ceramic pads at an additional cost etc. He walked me out to the bay, we went over rotors, pads and all that normal sales stuff. I disputed the charges, said no to the brake flush, front pads, etc. They got upset, took my truck out of the bay, put me at the back of the list, then came out once they pulled my truck back in that the back rotor is just shy of making the cut and now all of a sudden even after checking rotors, I now needed two because you can just buy one. I finally after three hours told them to give me my keys back. I care more about their customer service than their sales skills. Needless to say, I was so upset. What a bunch of rip offs. read more

I purchased a hitch on special through the website with free installation. I scheduled the installation at the Matthews location on the web order. I received a call next morning at 730am telling me that they could not install it in that window before closing. I called back and the rearranged for me to have it done the next evening. When I showed up, there was no mechanic that could perform the work and no tools that could do the work. I drove nearly an hour during rush hour to get to this appointment. I had to come back on a Saturday to drop my car off overnight. When I arrived, the person said I had to pay for the installation despite already being billed for it. The next day when I picked it up, there was no record of my order in their system. The person I gave it to on Saturday had deleted the original order and replaced it with the installation and the full price hitch. After standing there for a bit, it was resolved. It was not a pleasant experience to have to make multiple trips to this location and also to have the employees clueless as to what was going on. If they are to make an appointment for work, they should be staffed and have the right equipment. If not, they should have reached out to me. The website also should align with the work hours required for installation and not allow me to schedule during a time it cannot be done. I received an email about two weeks later saying my order was cancelled for not picking it up, even though I have the hitch on my truck. Overall, a poor performance that I would not go back for anything there. read more

Prepare to make two separate appointments just for no one to even look at your car. Made my first appointment on a Tuesday at 4:00, left work early and drove all the way over to be told the mechanic had left early and they could not look at my car. Did not receive a single phone call, email or any form of contact to let me know this, prior to my arrival. Even with this happening, the earliest my car could be seen was Thursday at 4:00. Fine, I arrive at 3:50 just to be safe. THREE HOURS after waiting, I inform someone working there that I need to run an errand, how much longer is it going to take. I was told to go ahead and run my errand and the car should be done when I get back. On my way returning to Pep Boys, I make sure to call and see how far along they are. Apparently the mechanic decided his day was done and left. Yet again, my car was never looked at, even with an appointment. In my entire life I have never experienced such outrageously terrible service. DO NOT go to this location unless your desire is to accomplish nothing more than a migraine. If the goal of every employee at this store was to turn every customer away and keep them from coming back, I would actually be impressed at how natural that skill comes to these employees. read more

I build Hotrods so I was thrilled about the remodel here..This store had lacked good service in the past but with the remodel came new help. They even put a guy there for hotrod parts..I spent $500.00 in two days in the hotrod department alone but when I brought one of my cars there and the battery died in the parking lot the employee helping me said "sorry maybe you can go next door to Advance Auto and get them to jump you" . Went into the Pepboys location in Matthews NC and the experience was great. I needed an Oil change for my older van and when I was going to the Service desk I met Robert Rhudy and he was a pleasure to meet. While my car was on the lift getting the oil change Robert informed me that there was any issue with in the drivers side wheel that the PROSTEER INNER TIE ROD END needed to be replaced and he and the Service Technician Sam Omary explained the issues if not replaced. I had the part replaced with the oil change (HIGH MILEAGE VAN) after the full quote and fast expedited service the van runs so much better. I just wanted Pepboys to know what great service that I had today with Robert Rhudy he was great to deal with and Sam Omary is a great technician plus I dealt with the customer service manager Cliff Tringali and he was also great to deal with today. I was so humbled with the great service that I purchased Pizza for the whole store. It is great to go and know that you can trust the people that work on you vehicles and today was one of those days. This is not a review for the actual work that was done on my car. What was disappointing was that the man at the front desk was probably the worst example of customer service you can be. He first was very short with me, acting as if I was bothering him by asking questions, and looked at me as if I was stupid for not knowing the answer. Then when it came to pay for the service he asked me to present my coupon, I told him that it was my understanding that if I made a reservation online then I'd get the coupon price. He instantly became defensive and said "no that's not what the website says." His coworker next to him said he could just use the coupon code he had at his desk. The man helping me said "I know that but he's trying to tell me what the website says and I know what to says." Now yes I Amy have been wrong and I would have gladly looked up the coupon really quickly, but you can be a decent human being and tell me I was mistaken and can you look it up for me. Worst experience, rude store manager and they lost my keys. I went online and bought two tires from their online system to have them installed at the Matthews location. Tires ordered appointment set everything was great UNTIL it was time to pay. No one came to get me although my car had sat on side of building for approximately 10 minutes. I went up to the counter and asked about the status of my car and they responded after searching each of the three desks that they couldn't locate my invoice. Asked me for my name several times. I was then asked by Robert to which I believe is store manager and the person helping check me out for my phone number to which I gave it to him. My car was listed under someone else's name and it took them another ten minutes to locate my folder and keys. My tires were a different price and when questioned about it I was told I ordered the wrong tire online (even if this was the case which i dont think it was they should have alerted me when they checked car) we went on (manager and myself) for five minutes or so until I finally said just check me out because I'm getting pissed off to which the manager impolitely told me not to say that he was training and I responded what does that have to do with me). Long story short worst experience ever not to mention all the "extra repairs" that I needed also. Will never go back to Pep Boys in Matthews or any other location. I called about repair and was quoted $60 for a 1 hour job. I was told to bring it in immediately for a quick repair. I did so and 2 hours later the service writer takes me to my car to explain that because my car is a Honda the repair is more complicated and will now cost $670. Three things are puzzling about my experience and they reflect lack of knowledge and poor management: (1) The service writer spoke of the issue as being common for the model. If this was so, then why didn't the quote, based upon year, make and model, reflect a price up front for the complicated job? (2) Why did it take 2 hours to make this diagnosis? Aside from removing one tire, no work was done on the car. (3) A shortage of staff was the reason given for the delay. Why, then, would they promise a customer quick service if they know they are understaffed? I took the car to the HONDA dealer and the fix cost $200. Do yourself a favor and check with your dealer before engaging in a 3rd party fix. read more
