I was in need of tires and after several quotes I called Pep Boys. It was the best decision. I got an appointment for the next morning. When I arrived I was quickly checked in and only took about 1.5 hours to leave with my new set of tires. The service was great & the price was fantastic. I got several promo discounts and had tires for more than half of what other tire companies were quoting for SUV size tires. I was impressed and have been suggesting them to everyone! Extremely rude front desk workers was the least of issues in my trip. I had to wait 2 and a half hours for them to even begin to work on my truck after making an appointment over a week in advance. Arrived at 10:50 for an 11am appointment to replace 4 tires. Not one time was it mentioned that they were running behind or that there would be any delays. At 12:10, they take my car back for tires. They told me it's going to take another 1.5 hours to put on 4 tires. Clearly, they do not know what they are doing, nor how to schedule jobs. I drove 45 minutes out of my way to come to this store. Incredibly dishonest employees, terrible customer service, & overall waste of money spent here. Went in for a routine oil change and for them to look at my tires, as I've had a slight leak in one. I've had this same Pep Boys location look at my tire 3 times now. Magically, this time... they found a nail in my tire which was supposedly unrepairable. Oh, also was told my battery was about to die and I had a filthy air filter that needed to be changed. Long story short, took my car to an amazing mechanic in Matthews. Battery is fine, air filter was able to be vacuumed, and they patched my tire for me... for the same price as my oil change at Pep Boys. Your service disgusts me. read more

I've been coming here for years to get my car serviced and have seen a lot of mechanics come and go. Management changes etc. however I must say the current service dept manager there is the best I've seen so far. Sorry I don't know her name but she is amazing. Always a great attitude, very personable and customer service is always great. I know myself I don't know a thing abt cars but she makes me feel at ease with any issues I may have. Not sure what Nicks problem is but he definitely seems to have an attitude . Hold this PepBoys accountable, if you have any work done check it before you leave . Even if you're not sure what you're looking at, require them to show you and make it right. The staff here is nice enough, but the actual service is a bit lack-luster. I came in about noon and was told there was a 90 minute wait for service so they suggested I make an appointment, which I did. I made an appointment for 2 hours later; arrived 5 minutes early and 45 minutes later... my car has not even entered the bay. I'm just here for bulbs, but still... you'd imagine they'd mention a longer wait or apologize for the slow service. Nope! I see lots of others also having had a long wait pacing about the store and parking area in frustration. Everyone's time is precious. I took the car to Pep Boys for some repair work. I took it there in the morning around 8 o'clock. I was promptly given a reasonable estimate. I say reasonable because the bill ended up being somewhere near the amount they talked about charging me. One reason I don't think I'll take the car back to Pep Boys in Matthews is the amount of time it took them to get the car finished. I left the dealership on foot for a little while once I got an estimate. They gave me a time in the early afternoon when the parts would be available for the car and the work could be completed. However, the car was in the repair shop until late in the afternoon. I had no other transportation, so I spent a good part of my day waiting for the car to be finished. Upon taking my car in several times over the past four weeks, I have spent over $1400 to not have my car repaired. The symptoms have remained the same, and as it turns out, upon taking the car to a different mechanic, not that hard to diagnose. As it turns out, my head gasket was blown. This explains why my plugs were fouled and why the symptoms persisted even though they replaced the valve cover gasket (no help), the mass airflow sensor (no help), and the thermostat. My trouble is that I could have saved a bunch of money and aggravation had the car just been diagnosed in the first place correctly. As such, the incorrect diagnosis, wasted effort and time has put me in a spot in which Pep Boys profited over a thousand dollars, and I have been taken advantage of. In a previous communication on this case, I mentioned three options that would be acceptable: A full refund Harrisburg Pep Boys fixing the problem My taking Pep Boys to small claims court Pep Boys selected to have Harrisburg attempt to fix the problem. After "Tow to Pep" taking an unprecedented nine-and-a-half hours to actually tow my car, this location pronounced my car "working properly" without actually noticing the blown head, without noticing the coolant fouling the plugs, and without being able to "reproduce the problem". Unfortunately for me, the problem was easy to reproduce as I got stranded AGAIN, and a location away from home after attempting to do business with Pep Boys. This brings the total times I was stranded up to four times. Now I am no mechanic, but it is well known that some symptoms of a blown head gasket include both an overheating engine and significant loss of coolant with no visible leaks (both of which I reported). Another symptom is misfire on startup, especially if accompanied by a puff of white exhaust. Between this and the fact that Pep Boys had replaced the spark plugs at least twice due to fouling by oil, gas (which I believe was coolant that was mistaken for gas) and coolant. It is my position that Pep Boys mis-diagnosed the problem (regardless of a pressure test) and performed unneeded repairs in a non-malicious but also incompetent way. That is to say I do not believe I was purposely mislead, but Pep Boys does not possess the required skills for advanced auto repair. read more

I was told over the phone that my battery was on 0% when they did my oil change and checked my battery percentage for me. For the past 3 months my car has cranked just fine without fail. Then I bring it in over the weekend for an oil change and Neal tells me my ball joints need to be replaced. I asked how much that would run me and he told me anywhere between $600-$700. So I take it to someone else for a second opinion come to find out I don't need my ball joints replaced. Thank God I was smart enough to get a second opinion on that or I would have spent my whole pay check trying to do a repair that wasn't needed. You prey on the women that come in there alone and on the men that don't seem to really know what's going on. I don't know what y'all are really trying to do in this store but I bet you the BBB of NC would love to hear about this and other similar situations just like mine. read more

I wish I had read the reviews before wasting 3 hours of my time and money waiting to get my oil changed. I had a appointment scheduled for 4pm and they tell me a lady that was scheduled at 330 was 30 minutes late and just arrived to get new tires so it would be a hour before they could get to me. Too bad they can't give negative stars as their customer service deserves them. Purchased a battery online with installation. Set the appointment for the following day. When I arrived 5 minutes early I told them my name. Service advisor said I wasn't on their list so they would get to it when they could in 3-4 hours. I explained I would be happy to come back when they told me or give me a call and I could be back in literally 5 minutes since I lived that distance from the store. The advisor said it didn't work like that and I would have to leave my vehicle to just sit around until they got to it. I attempted to show them my appointment confirmation and he and the manager didn't want to hear about it. The staff was clearly argumentative and didn't want to use any skills (if they had any) on good customer service and helping out the customer. I would have expected the manager who was standing close by to intervene and help. Rather than that he just went on to another customer who experienced the same issue that there was no appointment. After I reviewed other posts I saw this was clearly a repetitive problem with this store Best stay clear of this store with it's lack of integrity and lackluster staff. You will only go away frustrated and having wasted your time. Addendum: One other thing...don't think the company really cares. They put in their response to contact them as they are "concerned" about the poor experience. Sent them the story again with my contact information. NEVER HEARD BACK FROM THESE GUYS! I was told on the phone to purchase a battery online and come in and they could easily install in. Well I did just that and sat there for over an hour and a half for a simple battery install. So normally I wouldn't take time to review places like this. Reason being, is this is not the place you want to spend 5-6 hours of your time. Let me paint the picture with a history lesson first. Regal Nissan in Roswell is going to get a flaming, paper bag full of poop. More on that later. This weekend, I decided to get my redneck on and leave the comfortable confines of patios, women in sundresses, hummus and other things us city folk enjoy. The reason, Nascar was coming to Charlotte and my friends rent two- 50 passenger buses, buy copious amounts of alcohol, book two bands and generally act like we're all straight out of the trailer park for 15+ hours. What's not to like about that? Absofuckinglutely NOTHING! So after a day of wearing Mark Martin t-shirts, owning everyone from Charlotte in beer pong, and eating pork that had been cooked for roughly 12 hours.... Well, we had to leave at some point and get back to the hotel. Oh yeah, I forgot, I took a pic with Jeff Gordon lady. You know, the lady that is probably 60, but still wears a bikini to every race and has a Jeff Gordon mural on her back that is actual tattoos... GROSS. So, we get back around 11:30 to Matthews, where everyone had hotels and or air mattresses at my buddy Smoak's house. It's at this point that I figure out that my lovely Nissan Maxima is trying to croak. Tried to jump it... Didn't work. I'm too drunk to care. "I'll take care of it tomorrow"... Oh, maybe you won't. So I go back around Noon thinking, "Hey, I'll just replace the starter and/or battery and be on my way." Billy Bob from retro-tow truck towing comes and figures out in his best Boomhower impersonation from King of Hill.... "Hey man, this thingamajig right hunnnh... well, it's cunnexted to this thingamajigger right there... Lut me reconnect it and Waaaala.... It be crankin up man..." So car cranked, but I still needed a new battery... Get to Pep Boys and this is where the shennanigans started.. They replace my battery but the boys in the white shirts realized my left, rear brake was about to cause some serious damage. Basically, those ASE Certified assholes at Nissan when they fixed my breaks forgot to tighten a very important piece on my brake. Actually, it was the two bolts that keep the caliper in place. One had already broken off and the other was about to go. Guess what happens if they are both gone. Caliper becomes a 10 pound projectile that does damage to your car then flies out from underneath killing Suzy Superstar following behind in her Volkswagen Bug. Yep, I'm not a fan of liability so it had to get fixed. Then the shennanigans get even better. Not a single Nissan dealership within an hour is open to sell parts. The only Pep Boys with the part is in Gastonia.... Gasfookingstonia... Gastonia sounds like a place where bad gas and retirees go to eat Picadilly. So I have to thank Chad. Guy was awesome and was the person that basically figured out my left, rear brake was about to shatter someone's windshield and my bank account. Guy got in a truck... You know the one where the seat won't go back because there is no backseat, so you have to basically sit upright with no comfort?!?! Yep, that one. Drove the hour to Gas-tonia. Got the bolts and came back. Those people don't have to do that shite you know. Guy simply did it because he knew I didn't want to be in Charlotte past sundown. In Atlanta, nothing good happens after midnight (I love bad though). In Charlotte, nothing bad happens after sundown. I would've jumped off the nearest 2 story building and broken an ankle over boredom lastnight. Chad went and got the part and I was on my merry way. Now that's service. So whilst Nissan needs a few swift kicks in the 'Nads.... Pep Boys need a good old fashioned cheer and Jager shot or three. Therefore, I felt a shout out was needed for Chad and the peeps there. I'm not much of car person, but I just went ahead and went there to get some windshield wipers. It was buy one get one free with a mail-in rebate. I also got a free anti-freeze liquid thingy. I'm not sure if that's even the right name. When walking into the store, it's a simple auto shop. What more do you expect? I thought it looked nice and well stocked. The prices are clearly labeled for the items, which I'm a huge fan of things being correct. While checking out, the cashier was nice enough to inform us what we needed to do for our rebate. She even gave us a form that we had to fill out. We wouldn't have known we needed the form for the rebate if she wasn't there to help! All in all, I say it's a good place to buy some car parts with great service. read more

After I arrived, the two gentlemen promptly pointed me to the service counter. I get to the service counter, the gentleman asked what I needed and I proceeded to tell him that I had an appointment, he looked at his screen and confirmed my name. Then asked for my keys said he needed to get Info from the car. When he came back in said they offer free tire rotation,and asked if that is something I'm interest in. I said yes, since it's been awhile since I had my tires rotated, (since I hadn't been by the place I purchased my tires from since they offer life free rotation). The service counter man then proceeded to tell me in a rather smart tone that everyone who sells tires offer the same deal. After going to the waiting room( which had the aroma of coffee and rubber) it was nice I waited over an hour after being told it would take 40 minutes for oil change and tire rotation. Overall, the first pep boy experience I had was ok. The service counter man could up his game on customer service and be more friendly, smiling never killed anyone. read more

Worked well, unfortunately I had to replace the battery due to a bad cell instead of just charging it like I had normally planned (with their free rapid charger station). Looks like the store offers a lot of services, but is pretty competitive with similar competition (prices seemed to be comparable, but I didn't get a good chance to do a lot of research since the battery needed replacing immediately). read more

So I went to this location about a month ago for a oil change. They told me there was no wait and immediately grabbed my car but parked it inside the garage in the last lane it was there for about an hour and a half with someone doing something to it which I thought was the oil change. Then they took it out of that lane and brought it to the first lane next to the window where I was that. they did the oil change at that moment, I was there for two hours. I had an appointment for installing tires bought at the store. When I arrived fro my appointment I was told that the tire service members were at lunch and would not be back until 15 minutes after my scheduled appointment. After waiting over 2 hours my tires were installed. There was confusion at checkout because I had done the order online and paid for it online. I had to make sure I was not getting charged twice for the service and tires. When I asked what took so long i was told because they were 20" tires. Sorry but that is a very common size for trucks these days. If your equipment or personal cannot do an efficient job then time to make a change. To top everything off when I arrived home i noticed none of the tire valve steams had caps installed. I live uptown but drive my vehicles here for all standard service. Always very honest and fair with pricing plus they run great specials on a regular basis! They've helped me with everything from ants in the engine compartment to inspections. These people are the best in Charlotte! They claimed they fixed the issue but less than 30 days later my service engine light was on AGAIN. I also asked Jay on multiple occasions to check my fluids and tire pressure which never got done. Booked online appintment to have a headlight installed. Reservation was to 2 pm. Showed a few minutes earlier and had already completed the paperwork online to speed up the process. Service advisors informed me that the online reservations system was not real world. They offered to work me in over the next 2 to 3 hours but I would have to leave the car. The whole purpose of booking an appointment was to avoid having to waiting 2 to 3 hours. Since I had to return to work, I took my keys and departed. I had a super experience with this Pep Boys location. The gentleman behind the counter, Neal was extremely polite, professional, and helpful. He arranged for my Lyft ride home and back; apparently they have a partnership, which is a smart alliance for them and very beneficial for customers. The retail-side of the store also had helpful representatives. I didn't give five-stars, because there was a little debris on the driver's side floor mat that wasn't from me, which is minor but an oversight nonetheless. Called and spoke to parts manager to request a replacement for defective CV axal and after explaining that the reman part was falty and after he verified they had it in stock refused to warranty the part after explaining that the car was needed and that I had proof of purchase from just a few months ago and he could see clearly that it was failure in manufacturing . They really saved the day. I needed a regular battery for my Toyota Prius. All the other places I called refused to install a regular battery on a hybrid or they were willing to do it, but didn't have one in stock. Not only did Pep Boys assist me, they did it in record time. I was out in under an hour and they helped me out by adding a little gas to my car. I was afraid to stop at the gas station on my way there in case I couldn't get my car to start. They really went above and beyond and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again! read more
