I used to love Pep Boys but seems like they don't want my business anymore. When I took my car for an oil change after having an appointment the service man made it seem like they were so busy I was Inconveniencing them. When I came back to pick up the car the tires were not rotated. I was told that the front tires needed to be replaced and it would be unsafe to rotate them. However he did not offer to change them or mention how much. Well, I went to the dealer and they did a computer scan of the tires and they don't need to be changed. New car with only 22,000 miles on original tires and tires last about 40k. It seems like Peo Boys just made excuse not to rotate my tires and get me of there. I made an appointment online for a "tire puncture repair"- after just having the tires checked prior to a long car trip. We hit something on the way home, the AAA attendant said he saw the puncture and showed it to my husband, he changed it to the spare, and I brought it here to Pep Boys the next day. The man at the front desk took 2 min to look at the tire, said he didn't see the puncture, recommended that I get all 4 tires changed, and then said it was "below their quality of service to offer tire repair". Even though that's the scheduled appointment I made. Then don't offer it. What a waste of time, money and gas. I'm not an idiot, I didn't need all 4 tires changed. Just trying to up-sale. read more

This place caused me nothing but issues. I had a part shipped to the store and at 4pm I was told by e-mail the part had arrived at the store. 5pm: I go in to grab and pay for the part and they tell me it isn't there. I showed them the email to to expressed that the part had been received and they said it wasn't there. I left my contact info to call me when the part arrived. 6:30pm I go back in to get the part and still nothing. The part had not made it to the shop yet. 7:45pm I go back in for a third time and they tell me the part won't be here until tomorrow at the earliest. I left work early and paid extra for shipping to make sure the part was there that day. 8:30 pm I get a call from an employee saying THE PART WAS THERE THE WHOLE TIME AND MISPLACED IN A DIFFERENT PART OF THE STORE! I was so upset. The next morning I go in to pick up the part and at the register the two employees were betting on when I would come and grab my part. "I told you he'd come back, you owe me $5" I had the part installed and didn't even last two weeks before I was told by my mechanic that I have a faulty Alternator. I spent money on a part and had to deal with the employees mistakes just to have to rebuy the part again and pay for the labor AGAIN. I've lived here my whole life and now see Pep Boys as the building I will pass on Huntington never to return to again for anything. Stopped by Pep Boys in Monrovia to pick up a few things. Went to the counter and was greeted with a friendly hello and I asked where I could find the items I was looking for. The employee, whose name was Wendy, came out from behind the counter and showed me exactly where the items were located. I asked her if they had certain grades that I was looking for. Not only did she locate those items quickly, she asked me if I was trying to restore headlights on a car. I said yes! I was also thrilled to find someone else besides me that passed that "ESP" course! Haha! She knew exactly what I was looking for and why I was looking for it and even suggested another item for the final coating for the process ! I took her advice and added to my list ! Wendy was professional, knowledgeable, and courteous ! Maybe best of all she had a great attitude ! I had been to two other stores that didn't have the items I was looking for. If you need help don't go to pepboys. I literally blew a tire on the 210 and was lucky to have Metro Freeway Service put my spare on but needed a tire to drove another 40 miles home. I found pepboys and they refused to help me. It was about 6:45pm and they told me I was like the 4th person with a blown tire of the night and they just couldn't help me. so blah blah blah they couldn't be bothered with my story. I get it you want to get home but I was pretty desperate at that point. However, I know how fast the Metro service changed my spare tire and I am pretty sure pepboys is as good but 20 minutes would have killed them. I get it pepboys doesn't need my business. read more

Very very very TERRIBLE experience. They could probably do tires, but definitely NOT car repairs. I went to fix coolant leak problem. After their service, my battery was totally dead, windshield washer spray was broken, and mostly unbelievably the coolant was mixed with engine oil. My coolant tank is very dirty with dark oil. I only got to know this later through a mechanic check at some other place. I was told even with $$$ spent to have it cleaned, the residue oil in coolant channel would still stay. The damage to the engine was already done. The simple replacement of the broken pipe and coolant fluid got charged close to $1,200! Most crucially, they simply do NOT know how to repair cars. I felt immediately wrong when I called to ask why they could not deliver the car on time as promised. I was told that they had problem putting the parts back in place and that they had to dismantle it and were trying to put them back together. When I finally got my car back, battery was dead, they told me after running for a while, the battery can be charged again. But my car cannot start again after driving for more than 20 Minutes. One of the front desk guy was nicely came to my parking lot (4 blocks away from the store) and jump it for me, I drove back and they replaced my battery for additional charge of $220. And my windshield washer spray was broken, which were all fine the day before when I dropped my car off. Of course they denied any fault on their end. I ended up having to pay extra to have the problems fixed. It is simplest work for the most common car. They not only overcharged for hundreds $$$, delayed in delivering the car, but also caused damage to my engine and ruined a number of other parts. I have no idea how could a business run like this. Save yourself money and headache, and NEVER go to this one for car repair! read more

We brought our Sienna in for 2 new tires on a Saturday afternoon. We were told that work would be completed right before the shop closed (which is at 8). At 7:30, they hadn't begun working on it, so we went for an errand. A few minutes before 8, Octavio called to say they couldn't change out the tires because of swollen lug nuts. When we arrived, we learned that the only tire they couldn't actually remove was the rear passenger side. There was no offer to remove the lug nuts and sell us new ones even though they confirmed they were capable of doing that. They just don't care about service. "NO STAR" rating! Rolled in WITH a flat tire about 15 minutes before closing. I only needed my spare tire put on. The store was empty because it was almost closing time. I was told by "Che" think that's his name, who was just standing there next to another guy standing there that they could NOT put my spare tire on because only ONE technician was OUTSIDE. I thought he was joking and I even asked the younger guy was he joking but he just looked at me. I think Che was the manager.SMDH. I only went to Pep Boys because it was close by, they've been in business forever have serviced millions of customers for how ever many years the company has been around BUT I got a big fat "NOPE". Pissed off, I drove about 3 blocks down to HUNTINGTON TIRE where Jim, the owner didn't hesitate to help me. Got a guy to immediately take care of it in about 20 mins. SHAME on you Pep Boys! These guys have kept me waiting over an hour and a half and still haven't told me what's wrong with my car. They won't even tell me how much longer. I can appreciate that some things take longer than others but at least communicate how long someone should expect to wait. If I had been told how long I would be waiting I could have made arrangements for someone to pick me up. Not sure how much the repair will be but guess what? Most of the reviews here seem like they were written out of spite for not being treated like royalty. This Pep Boys is outstanding in many respects. There are plenty of other auto repair shops that actually try to take advantage of their customers. The only issue here is that they get way too many customers at once. Understandably, they can get stressed by the amount of workload, just like any other service job. Have a little perspective people. I came in for a timing belt change as well as a oil change. They took really good care of me and Che was great at explaining everything for me. He was more than capable and I'm glad I came here. I recently got ripped off on an oil change from a different auto repair shop a few months ago due to some false advertisement. Che is a straight shooter and if there is something they can't do, it's either you have a specialty car or you have been neglecting your car. read more

Have lived in Monrovia for 2 months. And they were closed 7:47pm sign says they close at 8pm. Whent to recycle my oil I parked in their lot while I was walking to front entrance carying the container and 2 soda bottles with gear oil a tech in their shop saw me dead in the eye and said nothing. Walked inside told the guy in the front I was there to recycle oil he sends me to the shop and calls, no one shows up he goes to the shop and asks and I get directed to go back outside to the shop and dump the oil myself. Now I don't really care if I get dirty i did the change myself but this is the first time I've ever had to do that. This is the last time I will go to pep boys any pep boys. This is a follow up to my earlier complaint I sent to this store . I now consider PepBoys (Monrovia store) as the worst quality technicians, unreliable auto repair shop. They are close to my work, hence it was conveient for me to use them. However, after several bad cases, I came to this conclusion. 1- I had done the smog check but Pepboys could not get the computer information. I had to go to Ford dealer to do this simple job. 2- I had car vibration at speed above 60 mile per hr . After several visits to fix it, needed to rebalance the tires again, I was told that nothing can be done and have to live with vibration because of the large size tires. That was totally wrong, I just asked them to rotate the tires for me and when they did, vibration disappeared. 3- I had a flat tire, I visited Pepboys and the job that usually takes less than 30 minutes, was done in 2 and half hours. What is worse is that it was done very badly using gummy plug . The tire started leaking air again, I had to bring the car to Pepboys again who kept me waiting for 3 hours again and eventually used the same gummy plug method which made worse and tires leaked again. I checked later with America's tires, Just Tires, Good Year shops later and all confirmed that what Pepboys did, made the flat tire worse and beyond repairable. They all agreed that gummy plug is an outdated method and a better type of plug with a patch combination should be used. I had to replace the tire with a new one just because of unknowlodble and unreliable staff in Pepboys. When you call to complain, they only give excuses but no solution. Again, Pepboys at this store are good in selling auto accessories , but very unreliable in repairs. I will not use them again and never recommend to any. I wish top management in this company see such reviews and start repairing this store. read more

Nothing worse then when you get home after giving a well detailed explanation of your Toyota truck specifications, only to find out after you get home that they gave you brake pads for a Tyota car. A young kind lady helped me. There was hardly no one in the store and yet this happened. So I had to have someone drive me back, pay an addition $20. for ceramic brakes. My truck was in the air on jacks. That's because I trusted them in giving me the right parts. WRONG!!! Fortunately, they had them in stock. read more

I left the car for wheel alignment at Pep Boys , Monrovia and they told I can come and pick up in the evening. When I picked up the car, they just gave the receipt for $199 (100$ for alignment and 99$ for lifetime warranty). When I asked for the computerized alignment report, the service manager told, the alignment is not bad and their printer is broken. Looks like , they didn't do any alignment and just charged the amount. I don't feel any difference after the alignment and still it is bad. I need to do again with some other shops. read more

Does it really take 2 hours to patch a tire? WITH an appointment? I needed a nail removed from a tire and set an appointment for 5 PM. Left work early to make sure I didn't miss the appointment and got in at 4:30. Checked my car in and proceeded to wait..and wait..and wait.over an hour passed before they even touched my car. I have fixed a tire here before with no problems on a weekend so I figured a Wednesday wouldn't be an issue. At 6:30 PM I finally got my car back and paid the 14.99. The 'tech' didn't even know what it was charged for. I asked him about the Pep Boys Rewards Member and fixing flat tires for free and he had no idea what I was talking about. The "manager" came and explained that although the repair is free, it costs 14.99 to balance the tire. Well why did you not tell me this ahead of time? Also why did you have my car in the same place for over 1.5 hours without taking it into the garage. What a joke..I should have listened to the other reviews. read more

10:30 am Sunday I called and spoke to a man and asked about a tire repair and if I could bring it in. He said yes and should be done around 1:30. I thought that was a long time for a simple patch but he explained he only had one mechanic. I dropped it off at 11 and he said have a nice day. I thought it was curious but shrugged and thought he was just being nice. I called around 1 and asked if the car was near ready and here is the conversation... Tim: the car will be ready around 6 Me: oh the person I spoke with said it would be done around 1:30 Tim: I never said that and I don't lie, I told you the car would be ready around 6. Me: I'm not sure if it was you that I spoke with but the person I talked to said 1:30. It sounds like you're being defensive and that you're saying that I accused you of lying. Why on earth would I leave the car 7 hours for a tire patch? Tim: I don't know Ma'am do you want to pick the car up? Me: Yes and this is the worst display of customer service I've ever received here. Tim: I don't like how you're talking to me and I'm going to hang up now. At the shop about 5 minutes later Tim comes out and asks if I'm here for the key. I said "obviously". I tried to go over the original phone call and Tim continued to talk over me and tell me he didn't want to here about it. I asked who his superior was and he wouldn't give me a name just told me to come back another time and please leave the store. I've never been told to leave a store. I've been a customer here for 20 years +. Anyone who starts a conversation with "I don't lie", is a liar. Sorry, it's the truth lol. Anyone working for a corporation that serves the public should never speak to a customer in this defensive manner. Boy has this place gone downhill and fast. They used to be super friendly, efficient and more than willing to work with me on repair prices. Then they transferred the manager, Raul, to the Pasadena store and replaced him with not so friendly manager who then fired or replaced most of the people that work in the service dept. The staff now are cold, somewhat condescending and charge for everything. My Mom had some repair work done late last year or early this year (old management) and has been having some problems with steering (same thing that was supposedly fixed). The service guy tries to charge her $39 just to diagnose. When she asks if that will be applied to repair he says no. I told her go to the one in Pasadena where Raul works as he always used to take care of me. I figured she had nothing to lose. The staff in Pasadena were very friendly and apologetic that she was having problems. No charge to diagnose. Turns out her fluid was a little low and they just added some no charge. While checking out her car they realized the crew in Monrovia didn't put the new brakes on correctly (something about not putting on a new kit... whatever that means) when she had her repair work done previously. They promptly corrected the problem and sent her on her merry way. My Mom mentioned to them that it was like night and day between Monrovia and Pasadena and that she will be making the extra drive to Pasadena from now on. The service guy mentioned that quite a few customers have left the Monrovia store and are now customers of the Pasadena one. I wonder why, hmm. read more

The worst $600 learning lesson of my life. I decided to buy Pep Boys tires ($400 for a set of 4) and a brake installation ($200 for front brakes). The prices seemed great at the time, but the old saying you get what you pay for should be Pep Boys' new motto. A few months after buying the extended warranty on my tires I noticed a nail in the sidewall of my tire. Pep Boys could not take out the nail, so they generously offered me a replacement under the warranty. Little did I know the replacement tire would be $170 plus installation!! This made little to no sense when I paid $100 installed per tire 6 months prior. The Monrovia store manager came up with the brilliant excuse "due to high oil prices the tire prices have gone up." (I'm thinking by 70.0% in six months!?!?!?) I bought some fix a flat at Auto Zone. The tire is holding air just fine. This was only half my troubles as the brakes I had installed squeak every time I push the brake pedal. I dropped off my truck a few weeks after installation at 9:30 am and returned at 3:30 pm. The mechanic had not even touched my vehicle. After this horrible service, I took it to a local mechanic and he informed me Pep Boys had used the wrong type of pads for a truck. LOUSY SLOW SERVICE, INCOMPETENT MANAGEMENT, and NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Needless to say Pep Boys is well on their way to be the next company to go under in this "economic crisis." Take my advice that the cheap prices may entice you, but you'll end up paying more for it in the long run. read more

Initially I shelled out a raving review for the parts department and personnel, but I have to retract some of that glory due to the fact the star players like Che and Joe aren't back behind the counter anymore. The folks that are left, are RUDE, and limited in knowledge; by what "the computer tells them". The only real reason I continue to go there for parts, is because that store is close by. Terrible communication at this location. I was told my oil change would be completed within an hour or so at 3:30pm. I wasn't notified that it was ready, I wasn't called either, so I showed up to pick it up at 6pm and the store was closed. My car was left in an open parking lot overnight. Their website AND Google both state the store closes at 7pm. I can't believe not a single person called me to inform me it was ready for pick up or that they were going to leave it in a parking lot overnight so I wouldn't have my car or ALL OF MY KEYS for 14+ hours. Worse service ever, never again, The service manager Christian should be fired immediately, I am escalating this issue to cooperate and filing charges because of the dangerous situation that Christian from Pep Boys in Monrovia at 201 West Huntington Drive, put me and my son in. I thought we can buy tires and have them put it on the rim here like I was told, my tire blew out and I towed my car there around 4pm for tire service, but Christian the tire service manager had a nasty attitude and refused to help. My son and I were stuck in Pep Boys parking lot waiting for another tow truck to come by to take my car elsewhere to get my tire fixed on a Saturday night. We were there waiting for 4 hours, Pep Boys closed, it turned cold and completely dark in the parking lot and I was fearing me and my sons safety. Christian (thats the name that was written on your jacket), you said you were the manager, you could've of fixed my tire, I called you and you said you had it there, so I towed my car there, it would of taken you 15 minutes, instead you refused to help me, had an unacceptable attitude and you jeapordized the safety of me and my son, while we waited for 4 hours in the cold and dark for another tow truck. On top of that, you threatened to get my car towed out of there in an hour and have it impounded if I didn't get it out of there. On a Thursday night my car battery died while out with my young son. I was able to get it jumped and replaced, but was told that my positive terminal was corroded and HAD to be replaced to keep my car running. I hoped it could wait till the weekend, or at least Friday night, but nope. On Friday morning, I was about to go to work when my car died again! After a few tries, I got it started and this time headed straight to Pep Boys. I'm 3 months pregnant and not great with cars (I work in a hospital), so I was concerned about replacing the part myself. I spoke with CHE, the manager, about getting help replacing it, but he said the technician who could do it wouldn't be in until 1:00. Big problem since I had to get to my job where my patients were waiting. Che understood and offered to see if it was something he could fix. He fixed it right there in the parking lot in less than 60 mins!! Che was extremely generous with his time, easy to talk to, and he wouldn't let me pay! I tried, but he was more concerned with me getting to work and not stressing the baby. He's a good business owner AND a good family man. I was genuinely impressed by his amazing customer service and can't thank him enough for how much he helped me!! My service experience at this location was terrible. I made an appointment for 9:00 am for a simple oil change. I dropped my car off at the scheduled time and went about my day. At 4:20 pm I hadn't heard from them and so started getting a little concerned that something was wrong. I called for a status only to be told they hadn't even started working on it. I was assured that I was next in line and that it would be ready within 1 to 1.5 hours. I figured OK, it's just an oil change so I let it go. At 6:00 pm I went to pick it up and was told again that they still hadn't started on it. At that point, I just picked up my keys and left. To compound insults, while waiting in line I had a chance to speak with a guest who brought her car in at 2:00 pm. Her car was ready for pickup! How is it my car comes in 5 hours earlier and they can't be bothered to touch it and she's able to pick hers up? Would give my visit today a Zero star if that was possible. ## Update on 09/03 ## Was supposed to get a call from the Area Director, Victor, to go over my case, but that never happened either. read more

Nothing tops of a crappy week than having your car's battery die as you're getting ready to go home from work. After getting my car jumped from one of my coworkers, I headed over to the closet place I know could fix my battery, which happened to be a Pep Boys. I really didn't want to go here because I've heard so many complaints, but desperate times call for desperate measures. The gentleman who helped me was so nice, that I really felt bad for hating on Pep boys so much. It was mid-week, so they were kinda slow and their technicians were on their break; the guy who helped told me it was gonna take 30 minutes. I must have looked pretty tired ( I was also sick), cause he went and got some guy from the back who put the new battery in for me and it took 10 minutes. The best part was that he look through a pile of papers and found me a mail-in-rebate and save me 20 bucks! I was seriously surprised at how nice everyone was. I haven't had anything else serviced here, but just based on my experience, I would give it a shot if I need something next time. read more

Just an awful experience. -Made an online appointment Saturday morning for 12pm on Sunday to buy 2 tires. -Showed up at noon on Sunday, they couldn't find my appointment (showed confirmation # on phone), was told it would be 2:30 or 3 before tires done. - Bought 2 tires for front-wheel drive car. Was told it was "company policy" that they only install on rear if buying 2 (not stated on website when I ordered them. Of course, I have no doubt I could have scheduled a paid appointment the next day for tire rotation. -At 3:45, (again, noon appointment for 2 tires) received call that car was ready. -Showed up at 4, car was on lift with no tires, and new tires hadn't been mounted to rims yet. -End of day, so other techs just stood around watching 1 guy try and put all 4 back on. -Car ready at 4:25, from a noon appointment and 20 minutes worth of work. read more

Stopped going here 2 years ago after their "re-structuring" or whatever it was that was going on there. They USED to be cream of the crop, but that changed. Any way, back to the issue at hand. I called to see if they had a part for my truck. Broke it down to the person that answered by year, make, model, engine, trans and 4x4 and asked for a specific part that there is only one of, the transmission mount. Was told there were 3, I figured 3 different mounts available, told them just what was in stock. I was then asked which one. Told them whatever was in stock. Was then asked again, which one. I said there is only 1 transmission mount and was then put on hold and a bit later another person got on the line so I had to start over. Asked again which one, Told them transmission. Again, told three different mounts, which one. I again replied there is only 1 transmission mount and then was asked if it was on the left or right....I told them that this was the reason I stopped going to PB and said good bye. The staff don't know anything about vehicles and can't find it even if they are told what the part is. Stay away, better off ordering from RockAuto or going to O'Rilleys down the street. My husband dropped off his car for a simple oil change when they open, which they said they will work on it today. He called them multiple times during the day, and they said they will get it done before they close, which is a complete lie, cause they end up not working on his car at all.
