I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to feel about this place. I took two cars in for an oil change, and I felt like although they completed the oil change on both cars, I wasn't exactly 100% satisfied. Car #1 didn't really have too much of an issue, except for the fact that they did say they couldn't rotate the tires due to 'cupping' of the tires. Not sure what that meant, but I didn't reason with them and just went on. They recommended a bunch of other stuff to work on that totaled to about $700. Thanks, Pep Boys, but I'm pretty sure my car will suffice for a bit as is. Car #2 was a V8, so it needed a synthetic oil change, which was on the pricier side. The problem that I had was although they were able to do the oil change, it ignited a light on my dashboard that they said they were unable to remove because they didn't have the system for it...really? Then, they had initially said that they could rotate my tires, then called me again to let me know they couldn't rotate my tires because they didn't have a machine to control the air suspension; a double-whamo. My overall experience was fine, but it wasn't mind-blowing. Lesson learned: just go to the dealer and get it changed there to make sure it's done right. I'm sure the cars are fine, but I just didn't feel like I was leaving as a happy customer. read more

Recently bought some Cooper Tires which seem to be good value, handle well, comfortable, etc. Asked around town, looking for the best deal. So I decided to go with a reputable company, therefore I chose Pep Boys. I was a little disappointed that for a well known company, they didn't give any protection such as Road Hazard, or any incentives. As for the service, the techs were friendly but failed to get my car out at promised time. When I got back to pick up my car (no call by the way), they tell me it would be another hour. You mean to tell me 4 hours for new tires and an Alignment? Guys standing around looking lost. Felt I could have gone anywhere else, and got the same service if not better, and probably a little cheaper. Think I should have gone to Costco or Sam's; atleast they offer Road Hazard, Warranty. We went to Pep Boys in Monrovia to get our brakes looked at for a sporadic seizing issue. We took an appointment for the next day since they didn't have time at the moment. We showed up on time for our appointment but waited 2 hours before they began, only to find out they don't have a tech who can diagnose or repair ABS systems, the whole reason we were there in the first place. To avoid wasted time, we asked them to just change the oil. One and a half hours later, the car was done but had trouble starting, had acceleration issues, and a new error code. We pointed it out to the service department, but they told us it was not their problem and there was nothing they could do about it... the error code is not something they can repair. The car was difficult to start and was unsafe to drive, as the gas pedal would get stuck. In order to be able to use it, we took it to another shop. They discovered Pep Boys had left a part of the oil filter wrench on the oil filter, which broke a nearby sensor connected to the ignition and acceleration. (SEE PICS) When we returned to the Pep Boys and showed them the pics, they offered to refund the oil change. They also said they'd fix the sensor for free- something they claimed the day before they didn't do in their shop! However, we could not feel comfortable with them working on our car given the absolutely shoddy job they did with a such a simple thing as an oil change! What might they destroy doing something they don't typically do? It's unfortunate that one encounter can destroy trust in an entire franchise, but that's exactly the case here. We will never entrust our vehicle to a Pep Boys ever again; horrible costumer service, unqualified staff, aloof management, careless technicians, and utter lack of regard for customer time and safety. I took one 20# rim with a tire that had a slow leak. I was there just after they opened up. I parked in front of the work bays. I wanted to roll the wheel a shorter distance. I rolled it up to one of the tire machines and returned to my vehicle to park it in the lot. I didn't hear a peep from any employees. I then walked back into the bays and the employees start Yelling at me...not asking with some courtesy. They escalated the situation with their Loud Instructions for me to leave the bays. It pissed me off and I made it a point to not leave. 3 employees confronted me and so did the front desk service person. I was told by the Service rep that they would not be able to service my tire if I didn't comply. I called his bluff and asked me to leave. I am a local business owner and homeowner. My brother and I shop at this pep boys all the time He has acct with them for his car restoration needs. I too buy everything I need to maintain my new truck, dispute their high prices. So we are loyal customers, needless to say. But on this day I needed them more then ever. I had a flat tire and I was pretty much stranded in their parking lot. Just picked up my car. Dropped it off at 9 am which was the scheduled appointment I made Monday. Came back an hour and a half later to see my car still parked where I parked it. Untouched. Came in for a tired rotation and balance. The guy gave me my keys and say "we took a look at it and it didn't need a balance" and proceeded to ask me what I was feeling to assume my car needed a balance. They would have felt what I feel if they would have stepped foot in the car and as for the rotation...That could have atleast been done but wasn't I didn't know u can eye ball and predict if cars need a balance without putting it in the wheel balance machine. They didn't even rotate my tires. I'm happy I wasn't charged for services that weren't made on my car cuz the reviews here had me paranoid. But sadly my car wasn't touched and no effort was put into working on my car the whole hour and a half I left it there. Do better PepBoys! I was given a call today from pep boys because they realized they had left a piece of equipment in my car and offered to give me a new battery in exchange for returning it. I could've just kept the equipment but decided not to since it isn't mine. Once I returned and gave them back their equipment they wanted to sell me the battery for 220 and basically lied. Mind you a new battery is 265 and they said I can get one for 220 to carry out as a discount .I already found a cheaper battery for 150 brand new. I brought my 2023 Toyota Camry in for an oil change and tire rotation on Saturday, August 3rd. I couldn't get an appointment at the dealership, so I made the appointment online the night before. When I took the car in, I was told I would receive a call when the car was ready, which should have been between 12:30 and 1:00 pm. I went back at 1:30 after not receiving a call. I was then told the price, which I thought was high, but I attributed it to the "special oil" my car supposedly takes, according to the technician. Later, I discovered that the high cost was due to unauthorized service performed on my car. The technician was very strategic in hiding this from me. I had to pay before receiving the itemized bill, which was folded before being handed to me. Additionally, the technician suggested that my car required special premium oil. No one called me to get authorization for any work outside of what I brought the car in for, and no one called to let me know the car was ready. I received a text to day the car was ready after I had already paid for the service. After discovering the additional charge, I called the store the following day and have been waiting for the manager to call me back ever since. read more

I had a 10:00 am appt. I arrived at 9:50. I was told it would be a couple hours by the manager. I live across the street from the store. At 3:00 I hadn't heard from the store so I walked over to find my car in the same parking spot. Upon getting out of work, my girlfriend had a flat tire. I wound up calling AAA for her for service but unfortunately they didn't have the correct tool for the bolts on the rims (but no locks or anything), just not the right tool. Evidently, my girlfriend misplaced that tool so she didn't have it in her car either. Here we go searching for a shop that we can either get a used tire at or somewhere they can put her spare. After searching a few places and they all end up being closed earlier than the times they stated, I call this Pep Boys and the first representative didn't know a yes or no answer to being able to put on a spare tire. He then transfers me to the service department. The man was rude, took me for an idiot, and proceeded to bash on AAA. I just wanted a yes or no answer in regards to the spare. He then tells me yes but immediately says, "my mechanics really busy so you'll wait awhile". I couldn't pick up my car when I said I would because my wife got hurt and they were completely willing to keep my car for another night. I have a fleet vehicle (therefore I get everything done, when it needs to be done, and cost isn't an issue) and this was the only place I serviced my vehicles. 3 times now I have caught them not refilling my windshield fluid, and if I can't trust them with this, then what else are they neglecting to do? I KNOW for certain it was them, the final "test" for me was I emptied my entire tank before I got an oil change and I got my car back and STILL, Zero fluid!!! Cashiers were adequate and effective, nothing to complain about in that regard. I came in for a routine service - normal oil change, tire rotation; with the request to check the car for any additional issues / problems. I know full well my car has a problem with the front light (shown in display as a warning), and been having delayed shifting from P to R and D and back - obvious issues that any person can notice. I was given no notice, no "hey man, your car is messed up", no notes in the service copy. Nothing. Furthermore, when waiting for my car, I constantly heard the servicemen talking disparagingly of not only mine, but also the other car(s?) in the shop. Finally, my car's display was altered, whereas it began giving an audible alarm noise anytime the car exceeded 30km/h (a setting that has to be manually set up), as well as an unknown phone connected to my bluetooth list. I made an appointment and arrived 10 minutes late. The rep commented that there was a grace period, so he almost gave up my time slot. Then they waited an hour to start working on my car. Several members of the staff were not wearing their masks properly (noses exposed). They also did not advise shoppers to wear masks or remind them to physically distance themselves six feet away from other customers despite the clear signage outside the store and markings on the floor. What a Waste of time! Took my car in for a punctured tire that had a 1inch nail. They had me leave my car there for over 3 hours just to tell me that my tire was "unrepairable" and had to buy a new one. How convenient huh?... I took it to another major tire place in Duarte and within 15 minutes had my tire fixed and they checked the pressure on all my 4 tires all for $20. They try to take advance of people here.... Terrible. I am actually waiting for the corporate office to contact me. They sold us the wrong battery for our van and after 2k of mechanic bills because the car was having issues and not starting, they determined it's the wrong battery. When my husband went in, the manager was so rude he wouldn't even acknowledge the error and explained they don't sell batteries anymore without installation. I then went In the following day with the receipt showing it was sold to us a few months ago & he basically kicked me out of the store because he didn't want to deal with the situation. The manager treated us so disrespectful, and has zero people skills. Wow wow wow I don't even know where to begin. Avoid this place at all costs. Had an appointment to change 2 tires and oil change. It took about 4 hours, but that I can forgive. But then after waiting for 4 hours, the mechanic put the tires on backwards with the white face on the outside I can also get over that. But, Next day, I'm driving on the highway and my tires almost fall off because the mechanic did not torque the tires at all! These incompetent "mechanics" could have killed me. After speaking to the service manager he told me to come in next time and he would take care of me. Well next time my car was having an issue I went in... My car engine was misfiring, usually caused by a spark plug or coil. After hours of diagnostics, they told me that the issue was a valve latch. They said it was not in the right position and they would have to replace all of them. It would be $700 and they would give me 20% off for the previous incident. 20% off for what could have almost killed me.... thanks. Well that didn't sound right so I took my car to the dealership and they confirmed that it was only just a coil. These people were about to tear my engine apart and replace all of the valves when it was only a coil that had to be replaced. Based off of these two visits, it is clear that your mechanics have no idea what they are doing. They can't put on tires correctly or diagnose a coil misfiring. Glad I trusted my instinct not to trust your diagnosis at all. This place will cost you money and could put you in dangerous situations. Find somewhere else to go. read more

I bought a car battery for a Ford Fusion at this location and it started falling in less than 7 months they tested and it had cell failure. they didn't replace it or honored the warranty because they said I bought it at the store side not the maintenance/GARAGE and they don't have access to that database so they couldn't find it on the system because apparently it was 2 different companieseven though they where both pep boys . They did get the flat tire changed. I dropped the car off at 10:30am. Called multiple times and was consistently told, "I was next." I finally went back to sit on them to see if they would finish it before they closed at 6pm. I waited I. The lobby for another hour and 15 minutes and the FINALLY looked at the tire and fixed it. I have gone to this Pep Boys twice to have my tires service. The first time my front tire went flat and they had a good priced replacement in stock. They replaced the flat quickly and I was back on the road in less than two hours. The second time I went on a Sunday morning to replace two worn down tires. Although they did not have the tires I ordered online in stock, they had another set off tires that worked out even better. I dropped the car off and ran some errands with the family and in about 2 hours I got the call that my car was ready. Part 1: Service call, actually calling about the service went fine --- I actually called PB Monrovia and went through the service the care needed for my wife's car: - front brakes - oil change - synthetic - wheel alignment Recommend: I went one by one and specifically asked whether or not they had a deal or a coupon on each of my service items. They had deals on each of them and one of them was not online. So recomend you do this for any service at PB --- check online and ask for specials or coupons. They almost always have some kind of special. Watch out for the dreaded upsell --- someone trying to sell you extra services you don't need. That was not part of our PB experience in this situation but has been at the El Part 2: 30 minutes after my call to PB - my wife actually takes the car to PB Monrovia for service --- this is where it all went down hill. When we got there, they said they could not service the car. When my wife said we had just called, the manager said he did not remember talking to her and when she clarified that it was me, her husband that called --- he actually asked/demanded that she provied we had called. She shows the manager my handwritten notes and the prices and coupons associated with each service item. Wife also shows him the cell phone call log with the PB Monrovia phone numbers. His assistant says that's not our phone number. So my wife thinks maybe we screwed up and called a different location - she re-calls the number and the PB Monrovia assistant answers the call! Unbelievable. Part 3: Where PB Monrovia comes online and says they want to know more or understand. Here's the deal --- just apologize for a misunderstanding and be polite to your customer. Treat us like you value and want our business. Finale: We ended up driving to our old neighborhood and our trusted family owned tire business - Perez Tires on Valley Blvd. While they were also swamped, they took care of our car and had it ready and about 75 - 80% of the coupon price quoted by PB. read more
