It is now 7/31/2017 an PEPBOYS has not fixed my car yet after admitting that they did in fact break my radiator fan housing an my engine has a excessive vibration when turning the air on. They just replaced my air conditioning compressor an engine bogs down when Turning air on also. Please do not take your car here !! They state senior management will reach out to you but it is just for show, an the Regional Area Director Nelson Rodriguez is even worse then the employees!! read more

Issue; Mis -diagnosed my brakes. Brought truck in with locking brakes, warped drum. They replaced a bunch of parts and problem was better for a day or 2. Problem came back. Brought truck back, after waiting over 2hrs I was told they need more time with it, to bring it back another day and leave it. I wouldn't and never complain but after spending money on this and trusting them- it's not fixed. Bottom line -not fixed -and I'm the customer. Offering to have my truck towed free another day from my house would have been the proper response to keep me happy. Now I'm left to question there experience and why they did not catch the underlining problem upon my first visit. Should I trust them again? Would you? read more

I was excited to get new tires today. Showed up at 7:55am as I had the first appointment at 8am. I booked online a few days in advance. I show up to be told tired are on back order. No phone call in advance to let me know they don't have the tires I ordered. I went back online as I sit in the waiting room, shows they are in stock online. Very disappointed this happened as another review last month shows the same thing happened to someone last month. Nothing is being done to make me a satisfied customer. I have 2 vehicles with a combined 500,000 miles. I gave pep boys a chance because I wanted the tire they said was in stock but now I'm settling for a tire that is in stock that was not my choice. Many sets of tires at Just Tires in Plainfield and always quick and pleasant service. I will update this post (hopefully more positive) once my tires are installed. I'm sitting in the lobby as I write this review.....my time is valuable, but that still doesn't address the issue that pep boys knows about. The issue of saying you have stock on a tire but you really don't. And I was not informed there was no inventory in the days after making appt. not only until I arrived for my appt was. Since Toyota Naperville mechanics are still on strike, I had no choice but to go to Pep Boys if I wanted to utilize my Toyota car care plan. Ugh. First off, they don't make same day appointments. After dropping my car off, they did get the oil change done fairly quickly. When I checked out, she handed my receipt and that was it. No info at all?? Literally everywhere else I have EVER gotten an oil change always goes over what they did and how everything else looks. Are any fluids low? Lights out? Anything abnormal, worn, or needs to be addressed? Literally no info. I read through the receipt I was handed and it had none of that info either. What a waste. There's plenty of other places in the area that are much more worth your time and money. read more

Let's see, the first time I went to this location I had made an appointment 2 weeks prior. When I got there they told me it would be about 3 hours to replace my brakes and radio. Flash forward 8 hours and now I was late to work because apparently it takes at least 8 hours to replace a radio (which I was never told once). Every time I asked if it was ready every employee treated me as if I was being a pest. I mean it's my car sooo. They offered me a free oil change after complaining about this to a manager. I go in to get my oil change and after being reassured it would only be 30 minutes (once again I had made an appointment too) I waited for about 2 and a half hours. They always seem to have so many employees doing absolutely nothing. Coming from someone who has worked in a restaurant for about 5 years, I understand if it's busy but that's no reason to give the absolute worst customer service ever. NEVER GOING HERE. Before I get into the review, you will see that I tried several other places before Pep boys. It will look like they were not my 1st choice. I needed to have a flat tire repaired on my daughters car who was only in town for the day (Sunday). I began at Sears in Fox Valley Mall where I purchased the tires. At 2:00 in the afternoon they said they only had one employee so they couldn't help. I then started with the closest to my home. Firestone was booked, Goodyear was closed, NTB said the screw was too close to the edge and wouldn't repair but would sell me two new tires. Finally, I arrived at Pep Boys. Tom listened to what I needed, looked at the tire and said "no problem". Just leave it and we will work it in. He called back 2 hours later to say it was done. It has been several days now and no signs of a leak. I'm a fan. Guess where I'll go first next time. read more

I have been a regular customer at pep boys for over 5 years, taking my 2 cars there for all the auto work. Last visit I was very ill treated and my visit was horrible. It is all because of 2 guys Geoff and Marty. I went to get my wifes car check as we had some smoke coming out and sometimes a squeeing noise comes which is not too much bothering but since I was there I asked them to check it. They told me that diagnostics will cost me $89.99 (which is still fair as they told me initially, that if I get my car repaired thsi will be adjusted in total cost). After couple of hours they called me informed me that Thermostat is bad and that is why radiator leaked and some bearing in fan is causing squeeing noise. I was been told to fix it will be $1100. I asked them to split the price for 3 jobs and I decided that I will get the thermostat and radiator fixed but the bearing since it was around $450 I will leave it for some more time. These two jokers Geoff and Marty then told me that if you do only 2 jobs then I have to pay diagnostics. This in my opinion is scam. I made an argument that if during your diagnostics you tell me 10 things to be done if I choose 9 things then I have to pay $89.99. These guys were so adamant that I decided to pay the diagnostics charge and took my car some where else. I did the right thing. I took the car to a mechanic shop and get the thermostat and radiator changed with oil change for $325 and they mentioned that fan bearing is still in ok condition that doesnt need any action. For the same job PB asked $1100 ($650). Pep boys at Naperville is the worst place, Tom is good guy and mostly recommends the right things. Marty and Geoff are the worst and tell lies and scam people. I hate to use names but the treatment I got after I declined the services and they made me wait for over 20 minutes to get my car back because they were F*$%ing doing paper works. I will never go back here. I wish some one in corporate pep boys sees this message and take some action. I typically don't write reviews but this incidents compelled me to write this nasty review. read more

Just went here to get a tire replaced. Specifically stated that the tire had a nail it's wall and that I thought it was the passenger front. There wasn't anything in the wall of the tire and they replaced it anyway. Didn't even bother to figure out it was actually the rear wheel. I figured this out from my friendly service department at Lombard Toyota. So frustrating that common sense does not prevail. Why would you replace a tire that didn't need to be? One other item I noticed in addition to my previous review was the navigation system had its settings reset and now the clock is off an hour. What does this have to do with an oil and filter change and tire rotation? It's like they were looking for something to break so they could fix it. I'm not sure about the other programming but the transmission shifting seems off. I'll need to take this to the Subaru dealer to sort out the mess. read more

Today was my first visit to Pep Boys as I needed an oil change. Everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly. While I was there, I was quickly helped when looking for an air filter. I was happy to find a carbon monoxide detector there so it saved me a trip to Menards. The issues with my car were explained to me and more so, in a way that I would understand as I am not a car expert. My check engine light was on so they pulled the codes for me. Customer service was phenomenal. I will definitely be back for my car needs. Thanks guys! read more

Went this morning for new tires because they had a good deal and had scheduled an appointment for 10am days in advance. When I walked in, the waiting area was dirty and gross with flies everywhere. I checked in with a nice man who seemed short staffed (as he was the only person in the store). He said when his tech arrived he would get started but their techs were backed up. I waited 40 minutes and saw NO Extra techs come in. I went back to the nice man and decided to cancel my appointment because no vehicles had moved and I didn't want to sit and waste time. He said there were only 2 techs working today and each already had around 5-8 major projects and one of them didn't start till 11. He had a tech manager as well who also had other jobs prior to mine! What is the point of an appointment if you won't even get in till at least evening if at all?! I would have sat there all day! They seem severely under staffed and don't seem to have a good scheduling system. The man who handled my appoint was pleasant and apologized, I didn't catch his name. read more

Horrible. Brought car in 3 times, ended up going to NTB to actually fix the problem. When I first brought the car in around 7pm, the night mechanic guy was too busy acting cool, like... Posing or something showing everyone his greasy shirt and picking his nose talking to his buddies, to acknowledge my existence for about 5 full minutes. My wife insisted I try them out one more time because they were cheaper for tires or I would have turned around and left. (Guys, this is the great marriage compromise) Then when I picked up the car, there was a red engine light on because a big wire was dangling under the hood, not plugged in. Could go into more detail but there really is no point. I had already declared this place inept about 3 years ago, I think it's gotten worse. read more

I came in for a tune up after i had my codes pulled. They insisted that I get the inspection done by them to insure the diagnosis was correct. They told me I needed my spark plugs and coils replaced at a cost of over $500 plus money for the inspection. A few days later the same problem arises. I take it to another shop and they tell me it's an oil leak that was damaging the spark plugs. And i ended up having to spend an extra 600 to replace everything again. Something Pep Boys would have very much seen and said nothing about.. I'll never bring my car back here again read more

It's a chain. The service is very slow, so pack your bike and go for a ride while your car is being fixed. Well, that's what I did. Some time ago, I had my oil changed here. The service isn't bad, just molasses-like. Sweet and slow. The sales guy must have realized that when I came back after my hour long bike ride and he gave me the discount that I would have had to send away for otherwise. Nice gesture! I have had better experiences with them in the past, but not today. I had made an appointment today for 6pm (which I scheduled in person with an employee yesterday). I wonder if that didn't get saved because they took my information again when I showed up today. All I needed was to replace a headlight, which should take minutes. I waited over an hour. At least they were kind enough to not charge me for it. But... I told them (both yesterday and today) that it was the front passenger side daytime running light. They didn't replace that one. I believe they replaced the (functional) driver's side light. A simple 2 second check of the car's lights would have shown you which one was out. If you're replacing headlights, why wouldn't you turn them on to check. I'm annoyed because this should have been a really quick and easy fix. Not me waiting an hour for just a headlight, and then they didn't even replace the right headlight. read more

With the help of one of the employees I quickly found the part I needed, and as I was checking out, the man helping me (forgot his name!) offered to have his guys take off the broken part and put the new one on for no cost at all! I have been a Pep Boys, Naperville customer since 2008 and have not had one bad experience. I have cycled about 4 different family cars through Pep Boys with a range of services - ball joints, complete break jobs, air struts, battery replacement, wiper blade replacement, fluid flushes, etc... I am always called in advance by a service advisor or manager and given the details of the work recommended and price. As a "buyer beware" type of consumer with the higher priced quoted jobs - I do check my car dealership first and a specialty shop - (i.e. Midas or NTB). In almost all cases, Pep Boys prices were more competitive. I have never had inferior parts or work performed. For example, I have had two complete break jobs including rotors on two cars. Pep Boys used brake pads that created no dust and the discs lasted beyond estimated miles (I am a daily commuter). When I went back in for pad replacement - they did not try to upsell me and told me my rotors had more miles of use. I returned miles later with one of my cars where the rear calipers went bad from wear. Again, Pep Boys quoted a reasonable price to repair. Additionally, I have never been scheduled out more than a day for service and in most cases, they complete the work same day with friendly, respectful customer service behavior (no attitudes). Finally, one remarkable point that elevated my being a Pep Boys (Naperville) fan. There was an honest mistake on a quoted job including parts. I mentioned I could get the parts cheaper and they said no problem. I had ordered 2 specialty air struts for my wife's SUV to deliver to Pep Boys to install. They inadvertently charged me $600 for Pep Boys priced air struts. My wife picked up the car and paid cash. I called them about the error and they said they can give us credit on a Pep Boys gift card. I said please do and keep the gift card until I pick it up. Well, with all my business travels and work hours, I had forgot about the credit and the gift card. When I returned for some work nearly 4 months later, there was a note in the system for my last work performed - and the manager said: "We have a $600 gift card for you from a credit on the last job - it is up in our office safe - let me go get it for you"! Yes, I know I am a fool for forgetting about $600. But thanks to Pep Boys' honesty and integrity, they made sure I was whole. I am not disclaiming anyone's negative Yelp reviews regarding their poor experience at Pep Boys, Naperville. But my experience has been as expected or above expectations (pricing, quality of service and professionalism). I would give them 5 stars but I am one who believes there is always room for improvement - the waiting are needs to be updated and more comfortable. :-) read more

I've probably spent over 3k or 4k at this shop, and have been going to them for over 3 years. That being said, I am never going back to this location. Last time I came by to have my complicated car's headlights replaced. Spoke to two different people on a Saturday to get a quote, to which they both responded with $140. The next day I came by to get it done, and I was told it was going to be $190. My guess is, the two people on Saturday didn't bother to actually look up the real price, and just gave a ballpark figure. I called customer service to complain, the girl on the phone was apathetic and didn't seem to really care. This also happened a month before, when I needed to have a new wiper transmission put in, along with emissions repair. Originally quoted about 850, minus whatever a 20% coupon I had would take out, for both jobs. I had the transmission repair done first, then came back a few days later to get the emissions repair done. Don't ask me how but I actually ended up paying almost 900 for both, AFTER the supposed coupon was applied. I asked for more details but was told that that was the pricing that came up, despite the fact that I was originally told that they keep your given estimate on file for you for a month. Never was I told of any deviation from the less than $850 that I was originally given as a repair price. All I want in a business is honesty, and for them to be straightforward. Why is it so difficult to follow through when you tell a customer information, especially when it comes to numbers? Shady, shady, shady, and the people I dealt with didn't seem to really care, which made it infinitely worse. Never coming back. read more

My 13-year-old Jeep needed a new battery. I called Pep Boys and spoke to Marty Morris (he was very nice on the phone). He checked to see if they had the battery in stock. They had it and he told me it would cost $187 (battery, installation, and taxes). Great! I went in on a Sunday morning (just after they opened). They seemed pretty busy but I stuck around to get my battery replaced. Oh, before I went in...I was on their website. It's great, easy to navigate, and I signed up for a coupon that was sent right to my phone by text. So fast and easy! I couldn't believe how fast they worked! My car was ready and after using my coupon for "Free Battery Installation" Marty told me the total cost was $149.52. I feel a great price for an SUV battery. From check-in to out-the-door, it took less than 30 minutes. My husband and I will definitely come in again if we need anything for our cars. read more

The only positive thing was that I could go there the next day. (I had to, because I had to go take my drivings license test!) They told me I had to wait 45 min. It took 1 hour and 15 min. Nobody told me it would take longer, they just left me there. Waiting room is terrible. They only had to change the oil and a rear light. When my husband brought the car to the garage that his work normally goes, they told us they had to change the oil. My husband told them it was done a few weeks (like 3-4) ago. (at Pep Boys) The guy in the other garage told him that it couldn't have been new oil! So at Pep Boys they probably had put back the filty oil!!!!! Since I just moved here (from Europe) and my English isn't that good and since I'm a woman, they probably thought I wouldn't notice!!!! GRRRRR, this really makes me angry! I was looking for auto shops opened on Sunday in my area and came across pep boys reviews. My last experience with this pep boys location was more then year ago and then i never set foot again.Reason is not just that they are bad service but they are actually CORRUPT! yes, they tried to charge me for a service that was 1. suppose to be free 2. They never performed it. The tire rotation was supposed to be free with oil change per their ad so i asked for it. Luckily, i was able to see my car through a small window in waiting area and noticed that they didn't rotated the tires and just brought the car back. Then they told me the car was ready and when i saw the final bill on the screen , it had $10 tire rotation charge!! when i talked to them about it ,they started giving me BS that they checked and car didn't really need it and its AWD so tires don't need to be rotated etc. Instead of admitting the mistake the store manager actually got rude. Well after some rude talk he did give me $5 discount on final bill , not sure if that should effect my review after what i experienced there. Unless the management has changed in last year or so, do not go there. read more
