I bought four new tires on Black Friday, buy 2 get 2 Free. cooper adventurer ht... i originally ordered the tires online and because of the deal the checkout crashed and the website was down for hours.. i went to the store to lock in the deal and set an appt up for the following week for install. i drive a 2008 Jeep Liberty sport with 203,000 miles on it.. Alexa was very helpful, honest, super friendly and accommodating. The price was not coming up as matched to the online check out price with taxes included, install and everything and she was able to adjust the price to more closely match what i was originally paying online. So thankful! The mechanics do a complementary full vehicle inspection after the service and they let me know about my brakes needing to be done (which i knew were pretty terrible but I usually have my husband do those when he's not working) but were not pushy with getting the service done there...which i appreciate because I'm also in the service industry. The wait time estimated was roughly 2 hours. It took a little over 3 but that wasn't a big deal to me. I understand that getting the job done right is more important than getting it done quickly or "on time". Also i love my tires.. so far at least! They handle great in wet conditions. This occurrance took place 1/13/13 I have had several less than good experiences with multiple pepboys sites however the Orange, CT location has made it enough for me to post an actual complaint. I went online to purchase new tires. They were having a special buy 3 get 1 free deal on specific tire lines. I purchased a set of 4 and set up an appt for installation. I arrive for the installation and they inform me that I will not get the 4th free unless I also purchase hazard insurance. This was not clearly labeled on the website (it was in tiny, barely readable font which I found much later with some searching). I agreed to add this on. At that point I was mildly irritated both with the unknown addition needed and the attitude of the service clerk. I gave him the keys and he said it would take about 45 min- 1 hr to complete the tire change. I came back 1 hr later, saw they had the car up on the lift and figured it would be a few more minutes. I decided to leave my brother there to drive the car home when they finished. Over 1 hour after this, I get a call from my brother stating they still were not finished with the car! The service clerk, with a condescending attitude, then informed me that I needed to pay for the tires now as the added hazard insurance required a complete redo of the purchase I had completed online. I asked why the altered price had not been dealt with when I was initially at the store. He simply said that it just wasn't done then but that it needed to be done now since they were finishing up the work. I then asked why it had taken over 2 hours to complete a simple tire change. He hatefully replied that it just did and that some of it was due to the state of the tires currently on the car. I responded that this entire experience had not given me much faith in the quality of their work. He stated that as long as the car is safe when it is done, it doesn't matter how long it takes or what has to be done and that I should be content with how things are. The clerk was extremely rude and condescending in his tone and responses during the entire conversation. I personally work in a service oriented environment myself. I know that when I have a client, their happiness with my work is important. If they don't leave happy, they are not likely to return or refer others. If you give an estimate of time that appears to be inadequate, have the curtesy to inform the client that it is taking more time than expected and apologize for the delay; don't give excuses or put the blame on the client. On multiple occasions, at several locations, Pepboys has had staff with poor attitudes. I will never again go to any of their locations for car services of any kind, nor will I refer anyone to them in the future. I would rather pay a little more and get real service than pay less and get the pathetic treatment I received today. read more

I've visited this location over 50 times in the last 4 years, and the service has always been exceptional. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I have never used their service department, however, so I can't speak to that side of the business. read more

Absolutely terrible experience here. Brought in my car for an oil change and tire rotation. Specifically asked the clerk (Jamie) several times to make sure that the tech would be careful with my low-profile rims, as they had been damaged before by another shop. Come back to pick up my car and find out that the tires had not been rotated, and the passenger rear rim had curb rash in several spots. First, I spoke with the service clerk Sammy who had a sour attitude and could not explain why the tires were rotated or how the rim was damaged. I asked to speak to the manager, to which Sammy rolled his eyes and stated that the manager would be around eventually. I saw the manager (Rhandy) peek out from his cubicle, then proceeded to walk by several times without acknowledging me. Finally, after I called him over, he asked what I needed. I explained my situation to him, he came out to look at my car and basically said there's nothing he could do. He also could not explain why the tires were not rotated, yet it stated that they did so on the work order. Then his clerk chimed in, well the tires are staggered on this car, so we cannot rotate them. I informed him the tires were not staggered, they were all the same size. He then said well they have uneven tread wear, so we cannot rotate them. I informed him that the tires had less than 5,000 miles on them, so he was full of it. He just rolled his eyes and said whatever. Then the manager took some pictures of my wheel and said, call another service manager tomorrow, it's not my problem. I told Rhandy I was not leaving until I had some paperwork to verify that an incident occurred at this location. He proceeded to scribble his name on my work order and stated "Customer complained one wheel is scratched." I called corporate headquarters as soon as I left to file a claim. We'll see how his manager handles the situation. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS, THEY HAVE TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND CAN CARE LESS ABOUT YOUR AUTOMOBILE. THEY CHARGE YOU FOR SERVICES THAT THEY DO NOT PERFORM AS STATED. read more

They will fix your car, but for a high price. The diagnostic fee is around 90 bucks alone. I have my own code scanner and told them what the problem was. They still charged around 90 bucks to look at. Ridiculous! They didn't have the part I needed (Catalytic Converter) and they said they would call me back in two days. Well its been over a month (I went to another mechanic after day 3) and they never called. I guess they don't need my money or service. I'm giving them one star because the service associates are courteous, other than that it would be zero stars. They definitely cause you to feel ripped off. I do not recommend this place unless you want to be charged a great amount of extra money. read more

The store posts its closing time at 8:00 pm. At 7:52 I knocked on the already locked door and motioned to a sales person to come to the door. I explained that I had just driven from their Hamden store where they did not have a part but that they were sending me to this store in Orange where a salesperson had the item in hand. In Orange the salesperson who came to the door said he couldn't help me, the register was closed. They deserve 0 stars. read more

This place took advantage of my 17 year old daughter who went in for an oil change and as soon as she hit the road, the vehicle stalled and turned off in the middle of traffic several times on her way to work putting her in danger. I took it to an independent mechanic who immediately pointed out that one of the hose that supplied air was detached. there was absolutely no issues with the car when it was brought in, so I warn everyone NOT to take your car to this establishment. I am outraged that a company would stoop so low.. business must really be slow for them. NEVER have I ever experienced such poor service. I will NEVER take my car there again for anything. Great Service, was on the highway on New Years Eve,when my truck broke down, had it towed to Pep Boys. Rich and Jamie took great care of me, gave us a ride to the train station so we could keep our plans, fixed the truck right and we picked it up after our trip was over. If you don't mind it taking 4 months for your parts to arrive or not arrive actually, and you don't mind horrible customer service, and you don't mind complete incompetence, and you don't mind the worst mechanics I've ever met...then this is the place for you. They screwed up a return on parts that they never received. They told me that the 4 wheel drive on my truck was shot and then when I took it to a dealer they told me it was a freaking setting! They are AWFUL. I can't express enough that this is not the place to take your vehicle. For the love of God please save yourself the tooth pulling agony of dealing with such incompetence. read more

I've never written a yelp review in my life but thought I had to in this instance because the service at this place was so horrible I will never step foot in this place again. It started when I went in there to buy oil, I usually do my own oil changes. When I went to pay for everything they told me they were doing an oil special and I could have it done for next to nothing so I paid for the oil and the filter and then handed it to them. They charged me for the full oil change even though they used oil and a filter provided by me. To make matters worse, they kept the fifth quart of oil that I gave them which technically I paid for and should have gotten back. The next time I went to change my own oil I could not get the drain plug out, they put it in wrong and it was jammed in the threads. I went back there and they offered me two free oil changes so I accepted that even though I didn't want them to touch my car again. They made me go to a dealership and buy my own drain plug even though they destroyed my old one, but changed my oil. When I went back for the second free oil change they told me they would not do it for free even though it was noted on the account because the manager who said that didn't work there anymore, after a brief argument they agreed to do it, probably because I also bought headlights and asked them to install my headlights for me. They charged me $170 to change headlights. Well not even three months later one of the headlights is burnt out and the only way it could have burnt out is if somebody touched it and it got a hotspot on it. I took it back and the lady behind the counter was rude and told me they don't warrantee headlights, on top of that she told me headlights have to be changed every couple of months anyway to which I replied that they should last 5 to 10 years. She told me if you know somebody who's headlights last five years they are very lucky, so now I'm thinking this lady must think I'm stupid. I could have argued with the manager and probably gotten it done but I decided right there I do not want these incompetent buffoon's touching my car again, I went to AutoZone and bought the lights and went to a mechanic I trust and he put them in for $20! I will never again give this place a penny of my money read more
