I have an older car. Problems arise. I've used many mechanics over the years. But one thing I can say is, I've never had to return my car back to Pep Boys for the same problem, or a bad job. The prices has always been fair, and I've always felt they've been good on their opinions regarding inspections of my car. I can say I really trust them, and the staff has been very friendly and courteous. The only problem I've had is that they're so popular, sometimes it's taken me time to get my car in or fixed. But it's been worth it for me. And living nearby, I can walk home and tend to other things while I wait for my car. I highly recommend this store and location. read more

Front desk guy Stephen said about 2 hrs wait to get it checked and 2 hrs more to "check engine light on diagnosis" so left and waited 4 hours came back because didn't get any phone call around the 4 hrs period that I was told to wait for another 2 hours. Due to proximity, I took my car in for a tire repair (nail or screw in tire). I was told that it could not be repaired and a new tire would cost about $280.00. The worst service I ever had. The minute I walked in all the service people ran to the back. I walked around for a good 20min not I person asked if i needed help. I have been here as a steady customer for a long time, but this year was a nightmare. Bad front brake installation, fixed for free but worrisome. Same job involved improper belt installation resulting in yet another visit. They were polite, but did not really acknowledge how shoddy the work was accross the board. Not first time either. I called to ask for a quote on parts and labor for my vehicle. While speaking with someone in the services department he seemed very rude, he asked a few questions and I answered them he then asked me what size engine do I have I told him that I didn't know he immediately went to tell me how to figure it out which is fine except when I asked him to repeat his self and get upset and shouted his response to me. I was a bit shocked but I followed his direction and gave him the info he needed. After that he gave me a quote, he then asked if I wanted to come down to the shop I told him I would call as soon as I am able to get to the location but before I could finish my speaking he hung up the phone while in mid sentence. read more

I'm always suspicious when a garage tries to convince you that you require a service you do not want or actually need. This happened to me today at Pep Boys in Pasadena. I went there to have my tires rotated and they kept saying they do that with oil changes. I did not need my oil changed, just the tires that I purchased at Pep Boys rotated (a free service since they were purchased there). The guy proceeded to tell me that the tread on my two front tires, which were less than 2 years old and driven less than 18,000 miles, were too low to rotate. Before they could hard sell me on two new tires, I left. I will never purchase tires from this company again. I've learned a valuable lesson, stick with the tried and true mechanic I trust Ori's Service center. It's worth the drive and the extra time. read more

When I went in spoke to the same person and he informs me the item is not available and would not of been in store as it was a special item order only and pointed to what was on his screen Interesting that he used the same computer when I called in to ask for the part and was told it was available . Hi everyone. So far I have to give Pep Boys in Pasadena 5 stars. I have taken my 2004 matrix Toyota in on Wednesday and talked to Chris. He was very good at explaining the problems with my car and keeping me posted through the process. I have had problems with the stater and oil leaking before and also the engine light popping which is a big concern when it comes to pass smog test. I am very happy with the way Chris handled my car and also took the time to talk to me each time I have a question. I went to this Pepboys to have an oil and filter change and timing belt changed. I had to take the bus to work after dropping off the car and to pick it up since it is a little distance from my work. I was disappointed when I arrived back to Pepboys after this whole ordeal to find out they haven't even touched my car. They told me the one and only mechanic they have that can to the timing belt called in sick. Did I get a phone call, NO!! Instead I arrived to pick up my car and the manager had to make phone calls to find out if anything was done to my car. How RIDULOUS!! Needless to say, I will never go back to Pepboys again. Oh, btw, they said my radiator hoses needed replacing which is what they said 6 months earlier and I had them replaced at that time. It mush be a standard with them. . read more

I had a tire blow out, and it turned out to be worn down to the belts on the inside edge due to bad alignment. I took it to Pep Boys because they are open on Sunday. The guy who helped us, Chris, was really great. We told him what we wanted (alignment, a tire, and an oil change), and he got us checked in; it was going to take about two or two-and-a-half hours to get everything done. We left the car and went to have breakfast (but that's another review), then ran errands. At about the hour-and-a-half mark, Chris called to let me know that the other front tire was worn out nearly as much as the one we had to replace, and one of the back tires was looking pretty iffy as well, and our rear brake pads were nearly gone. Since I've never changed them, I wasn't surprised. We gave him the go-ahead to replace the tires, taking advantage of the "buy 3 get 4" rebate, and do the brakes. He said he'd need about another 3 hours to get everything done. He called back about 2 hours later to tell me the car was ready. Chris went to a lot of trouble to get us the best deal he could; as I scanned the Pep Boys website on my iPhone looking at special offers and coupons, trying to find the best deal ("coupon not valid with any other offer"), Chris settled it for me. There was a coupon for $10 off wheel alignment, and another for 15% off brake service, so he told me he would give me both. He pointed to the price comparison sign on the wall and said he'd do the $10 off as a competitive price-match, and use the 15% off coupon for the brakes. With the discounts and rebates, I ended up saving about $150 by the time I got out of there, and he finished the job about two hours sooner than he had said to expect it. Car repair is never fun, but it's a lot less painful when the service people make an effort to treat you right. If I have to get something minor fixed quickly, I will happily return to Pep Boys, especially if Chris is working that day. read more

Made a reservation for 1 PM Sunday, but I called ahead and was advised to bring my car in right away. I'm still here waiting 3 1/2 hours later, and watched while every car that has come in has been serviced and has gone already. I was told there was a 2 hour wait. Then when I came back at 2 hours of waiting time, I was told there was only 1 master mechanic, and since my "check engine" light went on and mine was diagnostic that was why everyone else was served ahead of me. But I could have called around or even checked at Firestone across the street if they could have fixed my car if they had told me. I'm still waiting in the waiting area, while my car is still sitting there. Today is my only day off and I have a lot to do. Guess I better cancel. read more

I drive a 2017 Jeep Compass I went to see them for a battery change. I was in the store while my car was being handled I walk outside and I see someone changing my battery they close the hood and tell me all is well. The next day I am driving it wont rev up so I put my foot on the gas and my car starts smoking i pop my hood to see what the problem was, turns out they forgot to put the covering back on my battery and it fell behind my motor and the piece is melted. I brought this to there attention. I spoke with the manager and he says you were out there when they were changing it why didnt you say anything then. I want to point out I am not a mechanic I did not know I had a covering under the hood I just paid them $200 to fix my issue. In the end he blames me for there mistake. He orders a new covering tells me that it's in that following night I go the next day he tells me he called and left a message saying the parts not in. I did not receive a call or message. I still dont have my part. They have bad customer service and are liars. When I do receive my part I will never visit this location again. I now need to see a mechanic about my motor. read more

This used to be great service I bragged about 3 years ago. Yes they are open late but so is Taco Bell. I last took my vehicle in for new brakes. They tried to charge me for 4 other nonsense things that ran the bill almost $500. I questioned what the extra fees were. I said it has nothing to do with the brakes but only unnecessary charges to inflate the bill. I have never been back. I have since found the king of all mechanics at J and G auto Service on Walnut St. They can repair anything. read more

Never use these guys. They are liars and swindlers. My 4 year old car with 26,000 miles on it, was making a rattling noise in the engine. My neighbor, who works on cars, said it MAY be a loose timing belt. I called Pep Boys, which is authorized to service cars under CarMax's extended warranty, and explained the problem, and said that a neighbor said it MAY be the timing belt. Adam said that it would run me $500-$700 to get it fixed, until I said it was under warranty, and the estimate magically jumped to $1,500-$2,000. After having the car towed there, and taking the bus home, Adam called me and said that not only was the whole timing assembly damaged, there was another rattle coming from inside the engine, and told me, and I quote, "hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your engine is completely shot". CarMax wouldn't authorize them to proceed, thank God, so I had it towed to CarMax. Received a call from them the next day, and they told me that the rattle was caused by vibrations from a shot AC compressor which was dislodging the drive belt. Need a new compressor, flush and charge of the AC system, and that's all. Timing is fine, and the engine is far from "shot". $250 co-pay, which includes reimbursement for towing and rental car. CarMax: Hell Yes. Pep Boys: Manny, Moe and Jack must be spinning in their graves. An update: To their credit, the general manager gave me a full refund of the $136.80 they charged me for work they didn't do. Someone from the corporate headquarters responded to my Yelp, and asked me to e-mail him with the details so they can correct the problem. So I order something online from Pep Boys and arrange to have the items delivered to this store. A few days later, I get a call from the store telling me the items were in and to swing by and pick them up. I head over to the store later on in the day and let them know I'm there to pickup my items. The lady at the register had no idea how to process an online order. She tried to get me to pay for them again, and I told her no, I had already paid for them online and was just coming to collect. She sat there looking around aimlessly, with no idea what to do. While she was staring off into space, the line was getting longer and longer. Eventually some co-worker came over and she asked for help. His reply (get this) was "You never help me, so why should I help you?". I kid you not, he said this right in front of myself and all the other customers waiting in line. HOW RUDE!! In the end I just told her to give me my items and to work it out among themselves, how to run a store and serve customers. Totally incompetent staff working here, not to mention, dam rude to each other. The store manager at this branch needs to pull his finger out and run the store properly. read more

today sunday june 30th i received the worst service at pep boys ever. i've been going there for well over 30 years. why do they offer tire rotation if they are not gonna do it. last year at the pep boys in huntington beach i went for an oil change and tire rotation, i could see from the waiting room as the guy did the work, grew does the oil change but no rotation, then says that he did it, the manager had him go back and do it after he pedaled back and said he got the car confused, 5 thousand miles later i went to the pep boys here in pasadena and the sme thing they were very busy they tell me thru can't do the rotation because my tires were worn down, which wad bs, all 4 tires had plenty of traction still, after arguing for a while they did the rotation. now today i take my work van for the promotion they sent me,!! free tire rotation with oil change, the place got busy, they come and tell me they can't do the rotation because my van in too heavy, i asked how do you know how heavy it is? the guy says he can see tools in the back and he's not gonna risk damage to his lift for oil change, i remind him they've worked on it before on the lift and never had s problem, he says sorry he's not gonna do it! not worth it for and oil change promotion! i think is time to look for a new place to take my vehicles.!! read more

I purchased brakes that Pep Boys recomended that i use for my car. One year I got out of them. I drive a lot frequently. This is the longest I have ever gone on this same vehicle on brakes. Even with the better brakes Pep Boys saved me money. I got the best pads and rotors and paid less and also found out the my old mechanic did not use authentic rotors on my model car. He cost more money and Pep Boys charged less and like I say . They charged a whole lot less. Thank you Pep Boys . read more

A few weeks ago, I had to visit Pep Boys Auto in Pasadena. My car battery died again for the 2nd time within the last two months. My car is young, only 3 yrs old but apparently battery might be faulty. I walked in the store 5-minutes before closing on a busy Saturday night and they took care me. I was like their second to last customers. They were polite, fast, accurate, and great on price!! Got a Bosch battery with labor and the total was $117. What a sweet bargain?!! Hint: Though in any urgency don't use their restroom. It's grossed! Not sure who or why would anyone take a dump and not flush. Maybe is meant as a prank for the lucky next person. Yuck!! read more

Was helped by Brandon at the service desk. The guy's always smiling and smiles are contagious. He was pretty friendly even though they all looked super busy with everyone running around. I waited an hour to get my car battery replaced. I didn't mind the wait because people weren't just standing around. I haven't been to the Pasadena Pep Boys for a long time and something amazing happened while I was gone. Out of the blue, there service transformed into amazing 5 star status. I've always loved the prices, but avoided the long lines and the long wait times. I purchased the 18 cf rooftop cargo container for my Honda Pilot - boring - I know, but the nice young lady (Rene) at the register was interested. She called the manager (Tom) over to help me. He personally walked me through the choices available and grabbed this extremely large item himself. He also informed me they would install this item FOR FREE! To make things even more impressive Tom asked the service manager (Jeff) to take care of me - Extremly VIP. All this because I looked lost and exasperated. I'm not a super star, a rock star or a model. I'm a middle aged, chubby and balding dad (scrubs hood one). I'm just a squirrel trying to get a nut. Not to be trusted. I went to this Pep Boys to replace 4 tires that I purchased online from a different large chain. On the day of the installation, the rep calls me asking if I want an alignment with the tire change -- not having had any issues with my prior tires, I said no. Odd thing too was that the rep was just asking me without saying anything about uneven tread wear on the old tires or anything about symptoms pointing to a need for an alignment -- he just asked if I wanted an alignment. So I declined the alignment, and after I picked up my vehicle, the steering wheel was no longer straight when the vehicle was moving straight on the road. Still no pull to one side or vibration or any symptoms pointing to an alignment problem. So I go back to this Pep Boys in Pasadena and want them to adjust my steering wheel. Two reps there told me I can't get my steering wheel straightened without getting a 4-wheel alignment -- oh, how convenient!! I researched the issue online and found some youtube videos that say you can indeed adjust the steering wheel without getting an alignment and it's actually quite a simple process but I don't have the patience, time or proper tools to do the adjustment myself. Bottom line is that anyone who tries to up-sell you without giving you a reason for why you need the additional service (like on the day of my tire change when the rep wanted to sell me an alignment without pointing out any problems with my alignment) is flashing a big red warning flag, and then now conveniently having a lopsided steering wheel problem that I didn't have before I got my tires changed and then Pep Boys refusing to adjust the steering wheel without an alignment, all points to me not coming back to this Pep Boys ever again. read more

I've been going to pep boys for years when i need and oil service or tire rotation etc... i moves to Pasadena in January and I've used this location twice, i should have learnt the first time i know i know. They didn't tip up al the fluids, they didn't do anything with the tires, i basically paid $80 each time for them to top up my oils. Both times i had to take it back and ask for window washer fluid (the second time i took it here i asked 3 times please fill that up!) the service is meh... take your car to another location. read more

Wish I had gotten the parts counter guy's name. He was amazing!! So super helpful, pulled up parts offered me a couple different price points as well as his opinion (and not automatically trying to sell me the more expensive parts) even gave me oil recommendations based on my cars mileage. Customer service totally blew me away. Only knocked off a star cos everyone else there sucked and they were out of stock on some of the things I needed so I had to stop somewhere else to finish my shopping. The service is a hit or miss. Sometimes things work out great and sometimes it's crap. I had a oil change and a air filter replaced the other day. They broke the latch to the air filter and tried blaming me for already have damaging it. After talking to Lexus and getting proof that I couldn't have possibly broke it. I got my money back and they got instructions from Lexus on how to fix it. read more

For the moth of Feb, oil change is 24 and change with all taxes and fees. Buying the DIY kit is $20 plus recycling fees and taxes. So, pretty much I paid around $2 to have them do it. It took around 40 mintues to get it done at 4PM on a weekday, so a fair time. read more
