I made an appointment for a brake job and arrived before 12:30 PM and was told that my car won't be done today and I might have to pick up my car the next day. The reason for the delay is that only 2 mechanics are available. Not the kind of customer service you want to hear. The next day! Leaving your car overnight for a brake jobs. Just pad replacement was needed. If at most, resurface the rotors if needed but this being its first brake job, I think brakes pads is all it needed. I was cut off mid-sentence and told he had 'other people to take care of'--despite the fact that when I visited the location just minutes later, the lobby was completely empty. Buyer Beware! Purchased a battery for one of my cars from Pep Boys Dec 2023 w/ 48 month warranty. Jan 2025 battery kept dying, went to this location and was charged $17.69 to "Check the electrical system" to make sure battery wasn't being drained by it. Whelp it wasn't the electrical system it was in fact the battery they sold me. So why wasn't that fee reimbursed?? Also, Angie said that they normally charge labor to replace their batteries that are "under warranty" and basically did us a favor by not charging the $15 labor. WHAT LOL that is INSANE!! The replacement battery only has a 30month Free Replacement warranty so hope this one isn't defective. Save ur time, money, and brain cells and go to Advance Auto where they will honor their warranty and swap out the defective battery for FREE! No nonsense, no headaches. Lesson learned! read more

I scheduled an appointment for 3:30 p.m. and came at 3:20 p.m., I was told it would an hour and a half for an oil change.... It is now 5:00 p.m. and I'm still waiting for my vehicle to be brought back to the front. It got taken back at 4:15 p.m. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for a service center to stick to your appointment time. The service desk attendant that was there was very dismissive and all I asked was if it was close to being done. I believe someone named Todd spoke to me at 5:07 p.m. to applogize to be given the option to leave since they were running behind but I was not told that in the first place. I then got an estimated time that I my vehicle will be ready between 5:30-5:45 p.m. I appreciate Todd speaking with me after the fact but still wouldn't recommend this shop. read more

I came in because my check engine light came on. I told the woman behind the desk that my car was making a ticking noise and you could feel/hear a small revving noise while idle. They take my car back and I get a call soon later stating that they needed to replace the plugs and a coil. I assume that's the fix I needed but they said they'd give me a call if any other issues were found. This leads to me showing up to pick up my car and them stating that there is a bigger issue and that I should go to an actual engine repair shop. I wanna take this time out to express my gratitude to Pep Boys at Airline Blvd for performing such incredible service to my 2003 Honda civic. I requested an oil change and coolant flush and refill and not only did they perform both jobs very well, but they even did an overall checkup on my car and found that my radiator cap was busted. And let me add that after doing a cleansing of my engine and changing the oil, my car drives so much more smoother now. Portsmouth lotion is HORRIBLE!! I took my car in for an inspection it failed for 3 things tires, moisture in headlight and wipers, all 3 things were fixed took it back 2 days later and it failed for a turn signal, got the turn signal fixed took it back the next day it failed for starter light!!! I went somewhere else my car passed. I have filed a complaint with the state troopers and they will investigate further! Great service here, definitely the best mechanics around. They do take their time fixing it but they are also flooded with other tickets ( cars ) . At least you know that when it is done it was actually fixed instead of a rush job with lots of things still wrong with the car. Set up an appointment for 9am to have tires installed. I got there at 8:30. Store was open and maintenance was being performed. One customer in the waiting room. I told the service attendant that I had an appointment and I would be waiting. She stated that her tire person had not arrived yet. I asked when would he be in. She didn't know, but said "it should be soon". Then - she started talking about the high temperatures outside and how much hotter it is in the service bay. What that had to do with anything, I couldn't tell you. I began thinking that the tire guy may not come in because it was too hot. I told her that I may take a short ride to see if a nearby shop could install the tires. She said that I may end up in back of the line if I did that. So, let me get this straight - I'm early for an appointment, but if I leave and come back at appointment time, I'm put in a queue behind someone who may walk in the door while I'm gone? Explain all of this to me, like a 6-year old. I'm supposed to sit there waiting on a guy who they apparently are not sure is going to show up at all? If I could give less than 1 star I would. I will start by saying the first time I had service there it went smoothly, we worked with Jonathan and he was great! He evaluated the car and was able to fix the issue. Fast forward about 2 weeks to today. A couple days ago I noticed some issues with my car so I made another appointment. This time we spoke with Todd. He was very rude from the moment we walked in, almost like he didn't want to be bothered. He talked about how he had been doing this for "almost 30 years so he knows tires" but when I brought up the ticking noise he "doesn't know what that could be" and he fixated on the fact that I need new tires, which I understood but that wasn't the issue at the moment. He kept saying that its the tires, didn't even want to drive and evaluate the car to see what real issue could be. He even stated that "I wouldn't trust a place like this, we don't have a great reputation here and you should probably bring it into the Hyundai dealer" He got a phone call during our visit and he was very rude to the person on the phone too. He gets there at 4:45 pm, they told him he'd get right in (after taking a bunch of phones calls first and not acknowledging him). After sitting outside in his truck with his car keys in their office, his truck moved nowhere, technicians sitting around and standing in the lobby seemingly not working on anything. 45 minutes later, the truck still didn't make it to the bay and no one came to reassure him, let him know what was going on, or anything. Man where to begin, i usually don't leave any reviews but today I was so pissed that happen to me again I had to. First of all I pick Pepboys because of their good reputation at least that's what I thought but I was wrong, right now I'm in the office waiting for my SUV for the third time. So 2 weeks ago I bought 4 tires from pepboys, I didn't bargain about the price, so why should i bargain about the quality, after they installed them, it seems everything fine but a week later front passenger tire went real low I had to come back for them to fix, they told me the rim has a special needle sensor to let me know when the tires flat, that needle was leaking air slowly so they did what they had to do, fix or change that oring then thread it properly, then add air but at the end of the day they told me they check the other three so that problem won't come up anymore but today I'm here again because the other three tires missing air by 10 psi, OMFG, you gotta be kidding me. So I raised my concern to them about where I work which is Norfolk Naval Shipyard which praise First Time Quality, that I can't keep missing work because of that matter. They told me today like the other 2 days that they're gonna do their best for not to happen anymore I really hope today is the day or I guess sometimes ""your best is just not good enough"". So that's why I'm here to let everyone knows, specially where I work at, even the up or senior management in Pepboys that your quality is shit right now that you guys really need to do something about it fast because you guys jus lost a fu.....g customer for life. read more

-5 if I could. WAIT TILL THE END! Me and my girlfriend brought our car in for back brakes. We're told we needed all new breaks and rotors and a caliper on the front right side. We're told it was so urgent it was life threatening unattended. We're quoted 1400 and we said pass, we need a second opinion before spending that much. We found a guy with a shop who was willing to do the job for cheap and we bought the parts. He has pictures of everything. Turns out we don't need new rotors or calipers. He walked us around showed us everything even had us look it up and pointed it out. We knew we needed back breaks. But the squeal that made us think we needed them sooner was apparently a pebble wedged in the dust plate. Car doesn't make a sound now. After returning the rotors we got the job done under $150 tip included. Here's the real kicker though. The guy we hired literally coming straight from Pep Boys had to spend like a 30hr on each tire getting the lugnut off. He had a 800pd airpowered tools, was using grease, hammers and still had trouble getting them off. That was the hardest part for him. We paid him more because he spent more time getting the tires off the car than inspecting and changing the breaks. Literally. Obviously they didn't take kindly to us wanting a second opinion. I challenge them to call this slander and am trying to open an investigation. Because the only mortal "danger" to me and my girlfriends life is not being able to change the tire on the side of the road in a bad area because no human alive could have got those tires off without power tools. From what they've told me, they have continuously received quality maintenance as well as courteous customer service. Since I usually return to my dealer to have my car serviced, I am always skeptical about most places. The costumer service I received from two different people there was very friendly over the phone. The price was right; and they were able to answer my questions as well as provide guidance on the tire selections available for my vehicle. Kudos to the tech who called me back the next morning to let me know data technician would not be available to perform my alignment due to a family emergency. I rescheduled for two days later however on that day when I showed up I wasn't in the system and a tech was not available to do my alignment. Five stars to Pep Boys for their website online ordering and appointment system. -1 * for canceled appointment and -1 * for failing to properly set up a follow-up appointment. This past weekend I purchased new tires for my truck, over $700 I paid. When I got on the interstate it was a horrible death wobble after hitting 60+mph. I called them and they had me bring it back in to get balanced again, another hr wait on top of the 4 hrs from before (and that was having an appointment) I left and yet again had more wobble, not as bad as it was before but I could still tell it wasn't right. So, I called and was told by the assistant manager to come in YET AGAIN for another rebalance. He said he couldn't "fit me in now" as he only had one guy doing tire installs but to try later this afternoon. TRY AGAIN?!?!, excuse me but I already paid for this service and these tires so you should make room for me to make this right. I'm sorry but it shouldn't take 3+times to get the balancing right. If this ever gets resolved I wont be coming back or recommending them. read more

Pep Boys charged my sister to evaluate the cause of her oil leak. She then paid them to fix the problem that they said was causing her leak. Two weeks later, she still has an oil leak. She went back and they said it'll cost $500 more to fix the oil leak for real this time. I reviewed all of the paperwork detailing this, and called Pep Boys to tell them it's unacceptable for them to charge her to evaluate the problem, charge her to fix what they say the problem is, and then try to charge her an extra $500 to fix the problem for real this time. My sister is proceeding through the complaint process with the Pep Boys corporate office. I will report back on whether they offer an acceptable resolution. Additionally, the assistant manager at this location was extremely rude to me. As I tried to explain what happened to him he kept interrupting me and speaking over me so that it was very hard for me to get a word in regarding the problem. After our conversation I wonder if he even understands what the problem is because he wasn't listening to me. I wonder if the Pep Boys assistant manager is just rude to everyone or if he has no respect for women. Either way, the customer service here is awful. read more

Terrible tricksters! I was having minor issues with my car stalling out so I had it towed here for diagnostics. They called to inform me that I needed $1200 worth of repairs. When I declined their services to get a second opinion, they became very hostile. I paid to have it towed out and the mechanic who had "worked" on my car DIDN'T REPLACE THE PARTS HE HAD REMOVED! He tossed the greasy parts in the passenger seat on one of my Navy uniforms. Also, one of my spark plugs magically went missing. Very disrespectful and unprofessional! This pepboys is a unique experience for me. They are the best that I have dealt with in the Norfolk/Portsmouth area. I have called several times to other pepboys for an appt after 3 or as a walk in appt for an oil change and none but the one in Portsmouth would fit me in. Granted it's not in a good location but the ppl/service make up for it by far. With my schedule it's hard for me to make an appt and know for sure I'll be able to keep it due to daily job tasks. They have fit me in on a Tuesday and Sunday (even if they were busy) as a walk in when others denied me multiple times. They offer fair pricing and excellent customer service. They are my go to service center. I cannot explain enough the appreciation I feel towards this crew. Thank you for helping me out this past Sunday when I had to be towed to your location.
