Came in for a routine oil change and they caught low coolant plus some damaged suspension components. The team explained everything clearly, gave a fair quote, and upon approval of the quote had a very quick turnaround time. Parts arrived within 24 hours and the repair was completed under the quoted time. Most of the staff I interacted with, front of house and master tech, were excellent and kept me updated whenever anything came up. The sign out front of Pep Boys says "Prescott's New Dream Team. Come Say Hello." My experience with them has been a nightmare. I had work done my car a month ago and in the process they broke some wiring for my off-road functions which made the dash light up like a Christmas tree with warning lights but they said they would fix at no charge. Admirable and appreciated. The part came in but they ordered the wrong part. They had to reorder the part and it took more than a week for them to get the correct part. Once installed there were still warning lights on my dash that they couldn't get to go off. Their computer software was not up-to-date with the correct codes to calibrate everything to reinstate the off-road functions and get the warning lights to go out. They insisted they could fix the problem they created but as the weeks went by with many more trips back and way too many hours spent with no resolution I lost all confidence in them that they could resolve it. All of this was a huge inconvenience and disruption of my life since I need my car to work and make money. It was obvious they weren't going to get their software to update so I requested to go to the dealership to get the problem fixed and have Pep Boys pay for it. I was told the request would need to go to the district manager and they would get back to me. I did not hear back from the district manager but the acting store manager in Prescott, Chris, verbally agreed over the phone that I could take my car to the dealership to get this problem taken care of and they would reimburse me. I insisted on an email, which was like pulling teeth to get, stating the agreement so I would have documentation. I requested the email by the end of day and by the next morning when it still hadn't arrived I called Chris to ask where it was. He made a bunch of excuses about how busy he was and then said "I'm composing it right now" and finally sent it. The day after I received the email I took my car to the dealership and thankfully they were able to fix my car in a couple hours. Now that my car is fixed and I've submitted the invoice to Pep Boys, I can't get a response from them as to when and how I will receive my reimbursement. I have escalated the issue to Corporate Pep Boys and hope to find resolution there so I do not have to take Pep Boys to small claims court. Furthermore I've noticed other things which reinforce why I would never go back to Pep Boys and highly recommend to anyone who continues to use the Pep Boys store in Prescott to proceed with great caution. Here is a list of things I've noticed that exhibit a lack of professionalism: * On my last two oil changes they did not put the correct mileage on my invoice, if any at all. And on one invoice it wasn't just a few miles off, it was over 16,000 miles incorrect. * The most recent oil change I did not receive my complimentary inspection which they provide via text. When I asked about it all I got was a shrug and a "you should have received it". I thought at that point the right thing to do would be to print it out for me or resend it but he didn't. *The complimentary inspections are not free and the charges vary from one visit to the next with no details on the invoice. No idea what you're paying for. * They don't do thorough inspections because when I took my car to the dealership they did their courtesy inspection and found my cabin air filter was extremely dirty. * If you like the little sticker on your windshield with the mileage of your next oil change, you're going to have to beg for it. * Their invoices list the name of a manager who is no longer there. * If you have an issue, you cannot reach the district manager and when you ask to have that person call you, they do not. I hope they find a real manager soon because it is abundantly clear Chris doesn't have the experience to effectively execute the duties of a manager. My final advice is, if you choose to support this business, be wary. There are a lot of other options out there and I am certainly taking my business elsewhere. If the original Pep Boys, Manny, Moe and Jack could read this, they'd probably roll over in their graves. read more

New to town and I have been calling all over looking for 4 tires for my car. Apparently the tire size that I needed wasn't common & every place had to preorder them. I called Pep Boys as my last call and spoke with Roger. He was nice enough to check the new inventory that they had just received and was able to find the 4 tires that I needed. I explained to him my tires were in their last leg after a cross country drive and needed them changed ASAP. He told me they were booked until Friday but to come in and he would squeeze me in if I'm patient. I thanked him and got there as fast as I could. When I got there everyone was very friendly and helpful and explained everything to me regarding the tires and my car. I needed a simple task that was to replace two wheel barrow tires with inner tubes. I used to do this myself so I ordered the tires and tubes online. They arrived and were exactly what I wanted. The tires are very heavy duty but not solid as many folks say you should get but the air filled still are more stable and work better. Most all contractors use air. Anyway I cleaned the rims up and checked the bearings and all which checked ok. I put a little spray of dish soap around the tire and rim and tried to work it on. Ok I'm old ann man d even using a large screwdriver and then an old heavy duty tire iron I couldn't get the darn thing on and I was concerned about pinching the inner tube. So I called pep boys and they quoted $10 a tire so I dropped them off and some three hours later they called and I paid and picked them up. They inflated them per spec at 30 Psi. JR was professional courteous and a pleasure to deal with. They do a great job!!! The next time my one of my vehicles need tires I'll check them out. read more

But they have never been willing to do an alignment on my older vehicles since they always find something wrong, sometimes legitimately so but sometimes they just seem picky, like about the cams and casters. I have never been refused an alignment at Prescott Tire Pros or Big O Tires. On the positive side, they rotated my tires for free. Great coffee in the waiting area since they have a Keurig machine. These guys are the only ones in town I could find who sell lifetime alignment, which is basically required if you are to maintain your tire warranty. I used them a few times and they were much more friendly, efficient, and generally non-sleazy than the other similar chains I have used in the past. I can understand why the online appointment off the national website doesn't work well for them; they have different bays for different services and the national online appointment system probably doesn't give them enough information to determine which bay to use. Went on two occasions one to get a tire change and an alignment on my tc. Both times i walked out with a quote for a repair that my car did not need. First time around was told my lower control arms need replacement a 1200 job that when it was really the lower ball joints a 100 dollar fix. Second time for the alignment they were unable to adjust my rear camber claiming it was un adjustable. And offered a 400 fix with a camber kit. Took it to another shop and they were able to align it. Don't bother scheduling an appointment on line because apparently " it doesn't work " according to an employee. I scheduled an online appointment and when I called to verify because I hadn't received any confirmation, they told me I actually didn't have an appointment because their online scheduling system doesn't work. Seriously? Why does it schedule appointments then.Very frustrating considering you're email coupons tell you to schedule online and even tell you you have to in order to receive the coupon. I was quoted a price for one new tire over the phone, which was price-matched from another store. The staff took my name, phone number, and the time I could come in to get it. When I went in to pay for the tire, I was told there was no way I could buy the tire for the price I was quoted. I was also told the other store did not sell that brand of tire, so the conversation I had the day before could not be true. Needed the front end aligned, told them to do only the front end they did all four. The last three times I have had the alignment done they screwed up my Chevy truck ground rubber off driver toe. Wife's T100 they handed back the paperwork saying it is the best it can be and will get no better because of a lift yet it was better than my stock truck. My son just got his truck done and yes more excuses. Their machines are not accurate or the employees working on your vehicles are not trained properly either way I will never use them again and I advise anybody else to do the same. I scrubbed a curb on my chevy volt on a Saturday while visiting Prescott from phoenix, the tire was not repairable and Walmart advised me that they did not have the unique size tire that my car requires. Walmart sent me walking in the rain to pep boys. they not only had the tire that I needed, the master tech bob drove me back to collect the tire, he then changed it, Brought it back to the car and installed it, he then had me follow him back to the shop to rotate it to the axle that does not power the vehicle as he said different sizes on that axle can overheat the transmission. he also warned of possible antilock problems if one tire is too much newer than existing tires as the wheel speed will be slower on the newer larger diameter tire. I drove away with confidence and had a sincere feeling of safety while watching this guy torque my wheels with this fancy digital torque wrench and checking all my tires for air pressure, checked my oil and battery, and wipers and many other things that I would have never thought of... pep boys you better keep this guy as you have a customer for life. thank you thank thank you read more

I have used this shop for quite some time, before they were Pep Boys. I am a single woman and don't know much about tires or car care. They are honest and so helpful. I was told by someone at a body shop that I needed new tires on my car. I was getting ready to go on a vacation and I spoke with Roger. He was so honest and helpful--he said that I needed tires and although they would probably be ok for my trip, he would not recommend that I go without new tires. He did not have the tires I needed in stock, and he told me to go elsewhere--wow! He will always have my business because he cares more about honesty and caring for the customers than profit.
