I came in for a mounting and balancing of my tires that I purchased on tire rack. They had an opening that was relatively quick but it went downhill from there. On the first attempt of mounting, they returned the car with mounting glue all over the tire. To make matters worse, they scratched and damaged my wheels with their mounting device and impact driver. The manager on duty quickly helped resolve the issue by offering to reimburse me for the damage. However, after that I noticed that my car was no longer stable at speed. Brought it back to have it rebalanced but it was still no good. Ended up having to bring it somewhere else to have it balanced correctly. I love my local Pepboys. I should have written this sooner. They always took care of my Optimus [2015 - F150] professionally and reasonably priced. I love the Pepboys guarantee on parts and workmanship. They honor their warranty terms - I have had a replacement without additional charges. Tim is my go to guy there for all my service needs. My father takes his truck there also and we have always had amazing customer service and assistance. Very knowledgeable and the pricing is fair. They offer their recommendations and as a customer I have always got a choice to fix the core issue or just fix all of it. I have been coming to Pepboys with my vehicle since 2019. I left Ford store San Leandro - was a loyalist there because of their high prices, unfriendly attitude and delay in getting the vehicle back to me took hours. Pepboys - especially Tim always been courteous, friendly and I always got my vehicle back much earlier than stated. I will continue to bring my vehicle in when necessary. Side note: Many ago like the early 2000s [99 F150], I remember I was low on oil or perhaps coolant. I brought it to the service center, and they said, just buy the product and they will drop it in for me to get through my road trip, no charge. They did it right there and then. They checked my tires and said have a great trip! They have always been kind to me. I have always been treated really well and I trust them. I recently bought tires and had them delivered to the Pep Boys on 14845 E 14th Street San Leandro, CA 94578. I made an appointment for 10/27/21 at 3:30pm. I called on 10/26/21 at around 1230 to confirm the appointment, and someone named Tim told me that I could come in before 6pm and get it installed. I drove over at 4pm and waited in line only to be told, "oh I thought you were going to leave the car overnight." I ended up leaving to come back the next day for my appointment. I arrived at my appointment time and was helped by an employee behind the counter with no name tag and in street clothes. I asked them if they had time to do the 120 point inspection, and they said yes no problem. He told me it would take about two hours and I left. I came back at 6pm (2 hours later) because I had not received any calls only to see all employees getting in their cars and driving off. I yelled at the person who helped me earlier as he was still in the parking lot. He told me they tried to call many times, but that is simply not true, or they took the wrong number down. I expressed that I NEED my car to get to work. I am a teacher and cannot just miss work on short notice! I asked him who the manager was and he wouldn't tell me. He then told me HE was the assistant manager. He also wouldn't tell me his name. He told me it was too late and was driving off. I checked online and it says that store closes at 7pm. Why was everyone driving off at 6:10pm? How is this even possible?? I have a full schedule tomorrow and cannot find a way there to pick up my car. I have to find a way to work, then I have other things I have to do after work, then how am I supposed to get back to pep boys, especially when they close early!? It's literally like they stole my car for the night. He wouldn't even give me my house keys! 2nd time having my vehicle repaired here, mainly for tires. Wide space next to an asian grocery mart. There's a sizable cubical waiting area refreshments and television. Not big on waiting, but there are dining areas fairly close by. The service and inspection was done quick if you have an appointment early in the day. Only issue here is the information on the inspection form, not sure if it matters but if this unspoken rule continues, I might be driving home with a different vehicle than the one I brought in the next time around. I would give it a negative star if I could. First of all, I am a returning customer. I bought a lifetime alignment that's why I am returning for oil change, tire rotation and alignment. I made an appointment online for Sunday at 3:30. I called the shop immediately to make sure I can get my car done before closing because I don't want to leave it overnight. The staff ensures me it would be done before closing. So, I went in at 3:00 pm Sunday. On 2 separate occasions I went in to try to get a light on my dashboard to go away. In both occasions I guessed wrong what the light actually meant and asked for a specific service which they performed. My concern is that they did not actually tell me what the light meant. Not until after the second time after I asked why the light was still on. My frustration is that they knew what the light meant but never even asked me if they should do something about it. My car was there for hours at a time and they simply ignored it and knowing worked on something which the light was not on for. If I could leave 0 stars I would. I came in for a tune up and oil change and spent $500 for the services only for my car to start jerking and not moving after the work had been done. A week later my car wouldn't move at all so I took it to them to see what was going on since I had a 1 year warranty for the services mentioned and they listed off a whole list of problems that never existed before coming in. Ordered my tires from Tire Rack like I usually do and undecided to choose this Pep Boys location for the price, and that they advertised they were open on Christmas Day. Big mistake. Ordered the tires and scheduled the appointment online. The next day, I got a call from a staff member saying that he has to reschedule me because they weren't open, fair because it was Christmas Day. He said they have availability the day after Christmas, great. I scheduled my two tires to be changed at 11am. I drop the car off at 10:15am and went back to check on my car around 2pm. The staff at the front, Rico, ensured me that my car was being worked on. I was utterly confused and pointed out to him that my car is still in the same parking spot that I left it at 10:15am. He then said the car will be done by the end of the business day. I needed my tires done badly, so I left and was inconvenienced that I had to find a ride back. The car was done around 5:30pm. My car wasn't even locked and there was so many people outside. The staff even left the servicing note on my dash and it reads something along the lines of "notice should be removed once luggage nuts are bolted according to service recommendations." So now I'm wondering if the bolts are even on properly. And what was the reason for booking an appointment ? All in all, I will never be coming back here. Pep Boys bring on the Pep! Every time I've came here, I've left happy. I don't feel like they are trying to make sales or commissions. Pep Boys is always providing exceptional customer service and are very reasonable with their auto service pricing. I got a synthetic oil change for $82 with a free tire rotation. I was as happy as a dog because I needed both services. I use to go to Jiffy Lube and it was always over $100 for a synthetic oil change and they are constantly trying to make a sale. Such a scam, horrible service. I came in with a nail in my tire they said it was fine and they "repaired" it I came back a few days later because air was coming out of my tire. They told me they "fixed" it and they 100% would guarantee me a new tire since they fucked up and BROKE my tire. The next morning I woke up with a FLAT tire had my car towed to the shop, had my car there all day. Went to pick up and they lied about giving me a new tire. Honestly I am writing this review after coming here 3 separate occassions. Visit 1: The tires I wanted were not in stock. So they were able to look it up and I got them at another store in San Jose. This was as positive as it gets.... Visit 2: 1 of my tires went flat, the San Jose store said I should be able to go into ANY PepBoys store and get it fixed or replaced sooooo, I came here (with my receipt from 7months ago)... worker told me my tire was not repairable. They would order my tire and I could come back in 2 days and they where even nice enough to take the flat off and put on my donut spare. Visit 3: I returned and not only did they NOT have my tire..... but after I accepted they give me a different brand at a 10% discount they come back and ask me where the key to unlock my tires are.... I was in SHOCK. I told them that they MUST have used it when they replaced the flat 2 days ago. My fault for not checking afterwards to see if they had returned it.... This visit I left and I just felt so wronged. They found they key eventually and gave me an additional discount.... but at least they tried. This visit took 5 hours. To change a tire.... with an appointment. Not joking. Visit 4, yesterday 1/1/2019: I went in for an oil changed. Asked the manager if they had time because I hadn't made an appointment. Unfortunately my go-to place was closed. He told me confidently 1.5hrs at most..... went back 2 hours later and they told me 1 more hr. My car was still in the parking lot. I asked for the key back immediately. Honestly, so many things should have steered me away. I tried, but no. The work flow and time management is awful. Absolutely terrible experience at Pep Boys. I do not recommend going to pep boys for any fixes because they will charge you more than any service provider around. Went there because I had a problem with my brakes , and they did an inspection for me and recommended I change the front and rear rotars and pads for $1100. The sales associate and the mechanic spent a good 15 minutes trying to convince me that I needed to pay the money to have all these brakes replaced and they didn't even tell me how much life I had left in them. I decided to try J&J Auto Service because of their great reviews and I went there and they diagnosed a different problem (master cylinder) that they fixed for much cheaper. They even checked my brakes and let me know they didn't even need to be changed yet. I learned that pep boys is incompetent and only care about making sales and getting commission. They tried to make me overpay for brakes when that wasn't even the problem. This experience at pep boys really broke my trust for these chain auto service companies. read more

Got 4 new tires after having one of my tires blow out on the freeway the night before. I set my appointment time for 1:00pm the following day and pre ordered the tires for my vehicle. When I arrived, Miguel checked me in and asked me what time I needed my vehicle by, I replied preferably within the hour, but I also asked for the realistic times seeing that they were busy. He then proceeded to tell me that it would be done for 6 to 7; which I thought was kind of strange that he would ask me what time I would like my car because any normal person would say as soon as possible, but since I had time I agreed to later in the day. He mentioned some people ask for it sooner when they need to be at work at a certain time, which is nice that they can accommodate if needed. Before leaving I asked that he do a visual check on my tires to see if they were actually in stock because on a prior visit, two years ago, an incident happened where they did not have the tires in stock when said they did and I ended up wasting time and money. You can read about the experience in my past review. He replied that he checked in the morning and verified the product was there. All in all, I am pleased with the price of my new tires which costs $374 out the door for all four new tires which included road hazard warranty which can't be beat! This place is completely disorganized and shady. Don't waste your time here. I ordered tires online to this location and it said that I would receive a phone call upon arrival. I never received a phone call, so I give them a call to schedule the appointment for installation. The person on the line had no idea where my tires were, but we agree that since it says delivery completed online, the tires are probably sitting in the shop somewhere. He takes down my info, car make, model, etc, and I make an appointment for 12pm the next day. Upon coming in, they tell me that I don't have an appointment, but they can accommodate me. Yeah, OK. Then they tell me that because my car is AWD, they're required to sell me 4 brand new tires, and not just the 2 replacement tires that I ordered. My other tires have less than 5k miles and there's no way that I am replacing perfectly good tires. For an AWD car, using tires of this age with new tires is fine and will not damage your car. It's unfortunate that Pep Boys San Leandro will try to scare you into buying services you don't need. read more

My car ac was not functioning. Other auto repair guys just recharged the system and said everything is ok. But never addressed the root cause as after a day or two it stopped functioning. Pep Boys diagnosed the problem with compressor and condenser of 2008 Chrysler , got the parts and mad my ac functional just in time when it is getting hot outside. The technician and I had a misunderstanding around which tires should be replaced. While I understand mistakes happen, it ended up costing me another tire install and tire disposal fee which I was informed would now have to take place at a used tire shop and could not happen on-site. A 20 dollar discount on a 500 dollar purchase or any attempt to make this mistake right would've been more than enough to keep me a loyal customer. The technician even tried owning up to the fact that he hadn't written it down. The manager didn't even lookup from his computer before dismissing any compensatory action. WORST PLACE TO GO! I went in for my oil change yesterday 10/28/18, picked it up in an hour or two, brought it back to my house and never drove it after. The next today. TODAY! I drive it to school then a light pops up. I look up what it means, obviously, because I'm not a mechanic. I took my car there one day because the tire pressure gauge was on. They put air in the tires which one tire ended up having too much air in it. I took it back because I still felt like something was in the tires. A guy checked all four tires and said I had no nails and checked the air and adjusted them. Once again the tire gauge went on, this time a different guy checked my tires and he supposedly found the nail in my back passenger tire. They supposedly fixed it, charged me for it but the light was still on indicating something was wrong. I took it back in, they told me some bullshit to drive it for a few miles and it'll adjust itself. I was fed up with these guys so I took my car to where I normally get service. First off, they never fkn patched that tire that supposedly had the nail in it! It was the other rear tire that still had a nail in it that apparently they didn't catch! I kept telling them that there was something wrong with my tires but I guess being a woman means I don't know shit. I will never take my car there again. They have a bunch of kids working there that don't have any common sense to inspect properly or to even do a decent job. And the fact that they charged me to repair a tire that was never pierced with a nail to begin with shows how insincere this shop is. You can tell when a tire has been patched. I get to the counter and the guy behind the counter looks at me, gets up and walks into the back without a word. Wierd, but whatever. He comes back, same guy, and proceeds to act like he's about to help me with what I got going on. I explained to him why I was there and he looked me in the face and said "You needed to be here before 3 for this appointment." Not even kidding. Do not trust! I got a coupon book with my car for pepboys where you prepay for oilchante, tire rotation and such. So since I prepaid i now feel obligated to use. The last time I went in i was supposed to get a tire rotation, new filter, and an oil change on top of paying for new breaks and pads. ITHINK they only did the pads because my tires were not rotated as i have to slow flats iN the front and they are still there. Then I check my oil because the filter oil light came oN and it was never completed. Prior to this I had back breaks put on and after the sqicked so loud I hAd to take it back it. Bottom line is they do not do their job. One would think it would be illegal to not complete a job and charge for it. They also are rude and the customer service is beyond dismal hence the star rating. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HEREE.
