I bought a full set of new (not used) tires July 02, 2021. On Friday, December 24th one of the tires had fully deflated. I had the spare tire put on and went down to Pep Boys with the receipt from less than six months ago when I bought the tires. The cashier was a young looking man. He could not have been older than thirty-three. We went through the usual protocol of if it's repairable you won't have to pay. If the tires are less than six months old why would I have to pay? After approximately 15 minutes he tells me that my tire had been slashed. I was shocked. I park in a garage in addition to only traveling to work and back. I asked how could that be. He says whatever cut your tire dislodged. On top of him saying, since it is Christmas, if it's repairable I won't charge you. I asked if I could see the slash. What I saw looked freshly done. The piercing had no wear to it, in fact he had to push it open for me to see it. Long story short he told me it could not be repaired. I asked him if he was sure and yes was his reply. I was feeling in my gut that something was not truthful in what he was telling me. I needed a tire to do my errands so I asked for the least expensive tire and requested to have my recently bought tire put in my trunk with the spare since he will be putting a new one on. He rung up a tire for over 100.00 dollars. I told him nevermind and please put my tire in the trunk and to give me my car. He told his tech to check the pressure of the three other tires of which I told him there was no need since I wouldn't be buying tires from them. I took my car to another shop and asked for a tire but informed them of my flat tire and what was told to me about it. They took my tire and within 10 minutes returned with it patched. I gave the man 20 dollars and a tip. This was my second time doing business with Pep Boys this experience left me feeling that they are not trust worthy. Thank you Pep Boys Corporate Office for reaching out on Sunday, 12/26/2021 but, I will not go back for service. Car went in for brake pads for around 300.00 Than I got a phone call from them it now it needs calibers rotors now they want 1110.00...The next day They called now it need Master cylinder now they want 1100.00 more .. We Had them put it back together But they didn't finish the job We paid them 1098.00 ..Took it to the Honda shop cost 250 lines needed to be bleed an no Master cylinder was needed. Whenever it gets to me, I never get asked that? It makes it awkward for the cashier when I have to mention, "weird? it didn't ask me for my rewards information". I actually haven't been a customer, but when I was provided service free of charge. So, while I would like to give a more accurate rating based on a pruchased service, this review is based on the friendly, quick, and kind experience I had. I had bought a new windshield wiper from Costco, and I did not quite know how to install it on my car. I swung by Pep Boys and asked if they could quickly help me. The guy told me to pull my car into the garage and someone would help me. I drove my car in and within seconds, the guy addressed me and installed my windshield wiper. Totally polite, quick, and friendly service all free of charge. Really cool that they were willing to help me out and not give me a problem about where I got the windshield wiper. I will retrun when I have something I need done on my car, or need a part because of the great and generous service I received prior. read more

I came in today around 11 am. I looked around for a minute and decided it would be best to ask for assistance. I waited in line a few minutes while a Customer in front of me didn't have all the information she needed, and felt like she was holding up a big line. The Cashier was Very nice, and polite to her. I had no problem waiting, and actually appreciated that she was so helpful! Next it was my turn... She helped me get Everything in maybe 3 minutes, and I was on my way! JULIO Astrada the manager is so incompetent .. I dont understand how they have this guy as a manager . We recently had an experience and he straight accused my brother of damaging his OWN car after leaving pepboys ... Whoever was working on the car at pepboys damaged the rim of the wheel and after accused my little brother with NO PROOF that it was him that did it after he left with the car... ... mhmm funny how before you started working on the car you didn't notice that ? That rim Was not Damadged when my brother took it in ..and JULIOs response is that my brother did it when he was driving it back home... in a 4 mile drive my little brother would do that ? Terrible experience - I was told having an appointment just means that they'll be done by the end of the day. What kind of business is this?? I made an appointment for a tire change a week in advance for 10am and was told they wouldn't have the work done until 3-4PM because of other appointments ahead of me. An appointment seems meaningless because they don't seem to have the staff to handle the work. I ended up taking my tires elsewhere. Pretty dissatisfied with the lack of service here. read more

Compared to SF and Berkeley they are by far the most cost effective place to get your car repaired. However the customer service is very SLOW, and INEFFICIENT. If there is any way for you all to get more people working the front desk or answering calls they would be great. It's possible that they are understaffed. read more

I bought my son a gift card at Christmas time because he had just gotten his first car which he worked really hard for and I knew he wanted to buy things for it. When he went in and picked out some things and went to pay for it with his gift card they told him it did not work, they told him it it expired. It was a brand new gift card and by law they cannot expire anyway. I called and spoke with the manager and she told me I had to call an 800 number. So I called the 800 number and I kept getting disconnected finally I called again and left my phone number with a recording and they said they would call back well guess what they never did. So they basically stole my sons money, they owe me this money back, I'm gonna go in and it is not going to be pretty. Give me my money back! read more

Terrible customer service. I had an appointment for an oil change and needed to reschedule to a later time. Called the store early morning since they had no online appointments available. The person on the phone was very rude. They couldn't accomodate me at a later time, so I decided to keep my original appointment time. Not only did the person hung-up the phone on me, they cancelled my appointment all together without me knowing. I called back multiple times and no answer. I had an appointment at 10 am for an alignment and rotation, arrived 15 mins early. Was told by Tim that it would be a couple of hours, I said that is fine. I went to ask how much longer after a couple of hours and Tim said that they were going to start on it and it would be another 40 mins. I said you told me a couple of hours. He then said yeah before they would start, I told him that is not what you told me. He then started yelling at me and said do you want to wait?. I said well I have been waiting that is fine. But he did not specify it would be 2 hours till they started. He said they were short staffed and that they were really busy and a couple of hours was 3 or more...that does not make sense to me. He then continued yelling at me and said, we are not working on your car, I asked for a manager and ge said he was the manger. The way he spoke to me was un called for and threatened to call the police on me. I again said I would wait and he said . No get the hell out of here. He was cery unprofessional, when I told him I wanted a refund for a 3 yr service I purchased. He said you are not getting one and again to get the hell out. I sure did call corporate and filed a complaint. And will get a refund. Pepboys needs to have some better customer service. I've been going to Pep Boys for many years and until recently they've been reliable, which is why I'm going to be fair and not post an emotional 1 star review. In my most recent experience with Pep Boys I asked them to repair a flat tire for me. The tire was fairly new and there was no damage to the sidewall, therefore the guy at PB told me I wouldn't need a new tire. They call me at home an hour later telling me now that they HAVE to replace the tire and while I'm not happy about it I tell them that it's fine. They call me another hour later telling me that I have a 4WD and that it's mandatory that they replace all 4 tires immediately. after about 3 total hours of going back and forth they finally agree just to replace one tire. I don't mind their recommendation but changing their tune 2 times and wasting 3+ hours of my time before even working on my tire is unacceptable. read more

I remember why I stopped going here years ago. I forgot, and took my car to get a battery replaced and a battery disconnect switch (the easy one that is placed on the terminal). That's it. That was all. The extra terminal was quoted as around $6 part and around $15 labor. I explain these two things in depth to the service tech who was writing my ticket up. They are backed up and the car might be ready in 3 hrs. The guy writing the ticket out leaves off the disconnect switch - I point it out, he hesitates and then writes it on the shop ticket and states he will make sure they see this. 3hrs later they states they need a few more hours. I said no problem I'll pickup this morning. I call before I head there and of course, the tech didn't see the disconnect switch part and only put a battery in. How hard should this all be? Brendon was super patient, explained my options and even showed me how to check if I needed new tires (learned something new). If I could give them no stars I would. My bf had a horrible experience. Speaking with the manager Bryan was no help. Sold my bf some tires don't have in stock then didn't offered anything comparable. Bryan never called back and when we called back he said he never spoke w my bf. Went back on Monday as they said will have them. Still didn't have them from another store after they told him they would. Another day wasted and time spent. They refunded the money but time and money wasted Poor customer service and incompetence at its finest! Will never frequent this location again. I hope this review is looked at by someone who can make changes to the service and contact me. Update: after this review the yelp customer service person asked me to send an email see below. I did then they asked to write what happened which is here. Then the store manager of location where I reviewed called me and made excuses for his manager and never took accountability for the mistake and or he service. I'm sincerely telling you guys this. I don't get any benefit making bad reviews. I visited pepboys on 2 occasions. I had my car oil changed there. First free Tyre rotation they discovered one of the studs broken and my 4 tyres completely bad. That my Tyres are separating inside and needed immediate attention. So I paid for the stud to be fixed. So I went to a Tyre shop nearby my house to have the 4 tyres changed. They told me my tyres are not separating and only 1 Tyre needed to be changed. So after 4500 miles. I parked it in my garage for 4 days cos I want the oil change before I use it again. This time was nail on my Tyre and due to the position of the nail on my Tyre. That my Tyre is completely damaged. So I need to replace it. And it was the same Tyre that was separating that was still on my car....lol. I took my car immediately to the same Tyre shop and I told them to have my 4 Tyre checked again. They told me there nothing wrong with my Tyres Pepboys is complete scam. And now In doubt of the kind of oil in my car. read more

Terrible service here. My mom had her car towed in with a flat tire and they overcharged her. Not cool to take advantage of an elderly woman coming in on her own without knowledge of the average cost of such a repair. After the incident she went to two other tire repair places and they both agreed she was taken advantage of and ripped off. Review for Ladies!!! Yes, ladies have to be careful when going to a mechanic for car repairs. Pep Boys over quotes! Please have somebody actually look at your car before approving a quote for service and paying them. I have a Mazda 6 and needed to get one low beam headlight replaced over the weekend. My mechanic in Alameda is not open on the weekends, so I had to find another spot and this Pep Boys was recommended by a friend. Miguel, nice guy quoted me over $300 (2 hours of labor to take off my front bumper because the light was difficult to get to by hand, and the cost of 2 new low beam headlights). Luckily, I couldn't leave my car there that same day, so I told them I would come back another day. After some time to think about when I could take my car back in, I decided to at least get a hard copy of a quote. I had to ask another staff member that appeared to be a manager by the looks of his shirt, for a print out of the verbal quote that Miguel had given to me earlier. He was very rude and short with me. No eye contact and he seemed really bothered and irritated that I asked him for something after he asked me if I had any questions. I can't remember his name, but I was definitely not impressed with how he treated me considering I was about to give them $300 in business later A couple of days later, I was lucky enough to be able to go to my favorite mechanic shop in Alameda during their weekday hours. I literally witnessed the owner reach in to grab the headlight from under the hood with his bare hands (without having to take out one bolt from my bumper). He pulled out the light and replaced it with a lightbulb that he had in his shop. He charged me absolutely nothing!! Once again, going to a mechanic as a woman absolutely sucks sometimes. Extra quotes, extra trips, extra time, extra hassle. I have found a trusty worthy mechanic in Alameda and I will never go back to Pep Boys again nor will I recommend them to anybody. If there are any ladies reading this review, please let me known if you need a trustworthy mechanic that will not charge you if they don't have to. Plus, my mechanic's labor fees are $60 less than what Pep Boys charge. read more

When I arrived there was at least a couple of open bays sinceI had tried pulling into the shop. Signed in and told to wait. 2 plus hours later my car is still in the parking lot. Lined up to get a status and was told that there were 3 cars 'scheduled' ahead of me! What about my having an appointment? Oh no! Those don't mean anything the dude says!! 1.5 STARS I live 5 min from this store. Came in for a brake inspection and pads. They offered me a job for just over $500 that I passed on because I could have bought cross drilled better then OEM disks and pads on line for $380. Once I stated that to the "shop manager" we ended up negotiating a $250 brake and disk job. ISSUE 1- brakes not just seemed but screamed less then 3 days after. Took it back, had it documented and duplicated the issue (allways go on the ride withe the mechanic) and they end up putting new hardware; whatever that is, that I assumed should have been on the "brake job" to begin with and resurfacing. 3 hour wait. Two days later brakes still squealing. I took it back, complained that I never had squealing brakes in my life and it was unacceptable. Watched the mechanic drive my SUV around the block and heard the brakes as he entered the drive way. I was told that "I should have broken them in" by doing a series of speed & distance stopping. I guess I should have known that because......why? They end up putting OEM pads on it as told to me. 6 days later brakes now scream! I took it back, and tell them it is comming from the front. After a 6 hour brake job wait and them putting on ceramic brake pads, no resurface and the mechanic stated on the inspection sheet that he could not duplicate the problem. With a total 8 visits to see the store manager & shop manager and the 4 times my SUV was on the rack within this 2 month period my conclusion is this: DON'T GET YOUR BRAKES DONE AT PEP BOYS THE MATERIAL IS JUNK AND SERVICE NOT "CONSISTENTLY" PER PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS. To this day my brakes sqeal rather then scream each and everytime I brake when over 20 MPH. read more

There have always been issues between this branch and myself. I have a Pep Boys maintenance plan that I bought with the car. 1)Every time I brought it in, they tell me that they cannot give me a receipt. However, they last time, they emailed me one with no problem. 2) Even though the plan comes with multiple items (tire rotation, air filter change, multi-point inspection, and more) all they do is change the oil. Upon questioning, they always tell me it doesn't need anything else. (This makes me think that they probably didn't do anything the last few times, which is why they refused to give me a receipt). 3) After waiting in line for 10mins, I watched employee "R" pick up the phone and tell the customer that he'd have to put him on hold because there were "other customers in line" (I was the only one). He then placed him on hold and went back to typing on the computer for another five minutes before addressing me. When I left, he was still on hold. 4) Even though I make appointments, they can never seem to find them. What broke the camel's back: I go in on a Sunday, which I always do because that's my one day off work. I wait in line and the guy tells me that he can't take my car because the maintenance place is closed and he can't verify payment (even though I have the maintenance book they told me to bring). I ask of this is a new policy (because I always bring it in on a Sunday). He tells me he's been working there for 5 years and that they never do that. I tried to show him my receipt from June 2nd (which was a Sunday) but he still tries to insist that it can't be done. I walk out the store and call another one, they tell me they can do it on the weekend, no problem. I made an appointment and they sent me a text confirming the date! read more
