I've been going to Pep Boys for over 35 years and the've always had the best prices on both parts and service. I have taken many cars in there over the years including our SUV which they replaced the clutch a few years ago it worked perfect for years until we retired it due to an engine problem. A couple times I felt they had over charged and complained to the manager and they were always nice and refunded me. Most other repair will never do that so if you're unhappy with their service they give you the finger. An example we had took our SUV to Hi tech in Moorpark because the engne light was on and they charged us a bunch of money and didn't even fix it, they just replaced a bunch of things and reset it and the light came back on two days later and they refused any refund . So I know with Pep Boys they will always back up their repairs. read more

I had tires installed at Costco, and didn't realize they don't handle alignment. Brought my car here after grabbing lunch, and after making an appointment, brought it in to have my alignment checked. Mechanic was super nice and told me my alignment was perfect and not needed :) Appreciate the honesty, as many places I have gone have tried to get me to pay for unnecessary services. I am updating my review and lowering the rating due to the abysmal service I have received lately. Long story made semi-long, I had this location rotate the tires on my vehicle. Immediately afterwards, the "low tire warning" indicator would not turn off. This is where the comical and incompetent service began. On my first trip to get the issue (which resulted from their own incompetence) fixed, I was told it was a weekend and they were too busy to help me. One the second trip, Nelson the manager brought his mobile computer to my car to reset the tires. Although he was a nice guy, he said his recent update of the machine somehow went bad and didn't include Ford vehicles. "Please come back later." Today I went back for a THIRD TIME. Incredibly, I was informed that Nelson was not at the store today and he was the ONLY PERSON who knew how to use the machine. Perhaps this is the reason for the problem to begin with?! So now I need a FOURTH trip to this store to fix THEIR mistake. It's beyond pathetic. Once they fix this situation (assuming they ever do) I will not be returning. I'd also advise anyone else who is considering giving this location your business to think twice. read more

I have been going to Pep Boys in Simi Valley for over 15 years. I have always been pleased with the service I receive. I recently needed to get my front brakes, and rotors replaced on my Hyundai, and had a broken wheel lug. Paulo quoted me a price, and I brought my car in on Saturday. At the end of the day I spoke with Eric, and he said they were having trouble getting the broken wheel lug out and needed more time to work on it. A couple days later Eric told me my car was ready. They ended up going above and beyond and replaced the other 4 wheel lugs to make sure there wasn't any issue with them later. I couldn't be happier with the service I received from Paulo, Eric and the mechanics at Pep Boys Simi Valley. I will continue to take my cars there. Thank you all read more

Wow 6:20 pm on Saturday and my car wouldn't start and here is my experience. I walked in and nobody in the front store, but the guy in service at the back saw me and we made eye contact and he put his head down and never lifted again as if I wasn't there. I walked back to him and I am about 10ft. Away and without looking up he says, how can I help you? I told him my battery was dead and I need a jump. He said he can't help go see the guys up front in service. I walk over to service and 2 guys there. One was sitting down eating Doritos and I was definitely bothering him.I said I needed a jump and the tall white male said sure no problem we can And Edwin was useless and eating Doritos. Recently bought their top of the line battery with a 48 month warranty Brought it in to Pep Boys after my mechanic had checked twice and said it wasn't the starter or alternator but it was the battery not holding the charge. I went in and they checked it twice while I was there and it was reading low charge and then my alternator would charge it up. Aaron the assistant manager told me to leave the car overnight after they checked it twice again They had me Jumping through hoops here just to get the WARRANTY battery replaced. Same thing happened when they checked in the morning ( very low battery and once the car was turned on and running the battery got charged up through the alternator) and Richard the manager still didn't honor the warranty. He tried to send me to another mechanic to do more testing that would have cost me a ton of money and way more than the battery cost to begin with!! I have my usual mechanic do my oil change for the car I share with my boyfriend but he's out in the valley and I didn't feel like driving that way so I made an appointment online to get an oil change for the advertised $19.99. When I got there they took a look at my car and told me that my tires were so worn out that it would be dangerous for me to drive without buying new tires right there and now. The guy told me to call my parents (haha) and ask for permission ummmmmm I'm almost 30 years old dude I do not need permission with what I do with my money. The condescending attitude and misogyny with these guys is hilarious but what do you expect at Pep Boys they're known for ripping you off and taking their sweet time doing so. I didn't end up doing the oil change and went to my usual spot and when I told them my story about the tires they laughed and told me my tires are fine and to save my money. Pep Boys preys on women because they think we aren't smart enough to make decisions for ourselves! Extra tidbit: Last time my boyfriend got an oil change here he overheard the technicians talking about how they accidentally put the wrong oil in another customer's car. First of all if you are not trained enough to begin with what in the hell working in bro boys service shop?????? Service center people are not very smart. They tried to convince me to get the high mileage oil change package, what is that you ask , better oil for your high mileage car which costs extra. There is no difference in oil except conventional or synthetic , and if your car does not require synthetic just use what the manufacture recommends. Tire rotation which is part of the oil change pkg was not performed and tire pressures were off by 8 psi. Staff was rude and while trying to use the Pep Boys discount on my wife's car they told me they could only apply the discount to her. I have used pep boys in the past because how do you screw up a simple oil change , the price with coupons is really cheap but never again. The Simi Valley store is pretty pathetic read more

It's been a horrible week with my husband being in ICU. So of course as I start my car to go to work at 4:30 in the morning, my headlight goes out. I've never had to change the headlights since i got my car years ago. I went to Pep Boys with all intentions of paying for them to simply change my headlights since my husband could not. Once the guy finished replacing both my headlights, i took my wallet out ready to pay for his service but I only had a card no cash. He told me it was okay and i didn't have to pay. Always take my car in for an oil change and I am always impressed by the service. This particular day I knew my battery was going bad, and I needed an oil change. I asked if they could take care of my battery, and oil without an appointment. I expected them to say that they don't service batteries. The gentleman behind the counter said no problem. Tried to help me find the right battery and did not up charge me.When I was back in the store the gentleman gave me ten dollars off the oil change! And it was only twenty bucks. When my suspicions are confirmed... I never felt right about going to this store. It's just an innate feeling you get that a place is all wrong and you are being led upon the path of being ripped off. I had no evidence or facts of this until last weekend. My wife's headlight went out on her car and I took it to Pep Boys get a new one. Easy, right? Well, first I was quoted 45 dollars for 2 headlights. Not bad, but I asked why I need two new headlights instead of one. Their reasoning was the existing headlight is a different brightness than the new headlight's brightness, and would not match, thus the need for 2 headlights. Okay, what do I know, but the reasoning was sound and the price was right. I left my car and went to get some wiper blades. As I am getting my blades, I get a call. The Pep Boys attendant said he misquoted me. The headlight is in such a hard place, the labor would be more for the job to be done. What was 45 dollars became 135 plus tax. I went to the service center, demanded my keys, took my wife's car and got the heck out of there. I was pissed. It does not end there. My wife suggested I go to First Honda and see what they could do. 17 dollars and one bulb, not headlights mind you, but a bulb later, my headlights were fixed. No labor charge, and all taking about 20 minutes, and I was done. Hell, I even ate a doughnut! Did I just escape a screw job of epic proportions, or do I still not know what the hell happened? Am I missing something here? The philosophy of places like Pep Boys is so flawed-motivated by greed, their bottom line, and my gullibility. They simply don't get it. I want to trust. I am willing to pay for good service, I am willing to be loyal and keep coming back. ALL I ASK IS ONE THING. Do not rip me off! I am now applying my Radio Shack rule to Pep Boys. Considering that I had car problems, and that I typically try to repair my own vehicles, I am usually disappointed when I use a repair shop. NOT THE CASE when I took my car into Pep Boys yesterday. If I could give Brett the service manager 10 stars - I would. Fernando the mechanic- worked like a trooper as well. No nonsense service: I needed rear struts. They did exactly what I asked. They were prompt, efficient, friendly as could be despite being very busy, no "up sale" attempts and best of all - despite a corporate headquarters managed website which is complete BS and out of the Simi Valley shops control - went very out of their way to make me happy and in a very reasonable and fair manner - provided pricing that others would have not done. I'm so happy I did not spend my whole weekend trying to do a self repair and left that task to Pep Boys. THANKS A MILLION ! read more

I have edited my initial review to reflect a more objective version of why this is a two-star establishment: On 7/25/2012 I called the shop in the evening and requested a price quote on a part - the price and the cost of the service they quoted me were VERY incredible, 0.8 hours of labor, and a price of $39.99 for the part (which is equivalent to the price of the part at Walmart / Amazon.com). I was told that I could swing by around 7:00, which I did, and they didn't have room for me, so I went home. They were very polite about it, and I do believe I was treated well; however, I wish that I had received a phone call instead of wasting my time coming in. Where I felt I was mistreated is that they did not honor the pricematch that they directly told me they would honor, they also charged me for 1 hour of labor while their technicians worked on other cars. It's my belief that you should be charged for work that's being done consistently, not for wasting my time while I sit in the parking lot waiting. They were overburdened, and yes it is a business, but customers should receive priority in the order they come into the shop. A three hour wait for a one hour service combined with the lack of a price match I feel like depicts "Meh. I've experienced better" which is Yelp's version of two stars. QED. I have mixed feelings about this place - and another Yelper [Diana G] contacted me because she felt as though my review wasn't a fair depiction. A shop isn't a 5-star shop because of "service with a smile" or "great customer service" - it is based on the knowledge they have and ability to perform honest work on your vehicle. I try to keep my money local so I gave these guys a try for shocks on my truck. Bad decision! For starters, we went there on a Saturday w/out an appt. and it was going to take 5 hours, so I made an appt. for Sunday at 12:00. We even checked with the Parts Dept. to make sure they had the parts in stock. The Parts guy said "You need struts in the front". More expensive than shocks, but no problem. Came back Sunday for my appt. and the Service guy said "You don't need struts in the front, you need shocks." Less expensive than struts. No problem. I asked how long it would be and he said 2 or 2 1/2 hrs. Fine. I went home and waited. 2:30 rolled around and nothing. Finally at 3:30 I called and they said it would be done in 30 min. At 4:15 we went down and it STILL wasn't done. I asked why and the guy said "I am still looking for parts." WHAT?!?!? We told him that we had checked with Parts Dept the day before (oh, and by the way, it did need struts after all) and he said "Well, the Parts Dept puts all Service Dept orders at the bottom of the list." Are you freaking kidding me???? So, they said they had the parts but didn't. Then they didn't bother to call to tell me that they couldn't find the parts anywhere and it would be a lot longer than they promised, THEN, we still had to wait another 45 MIN for them to put my truck back together. So basically they had my truck for 5 HOURS on a Sunday and the job STILL isn't done. NEVER going back there! I did call the Assistant Manager today (the real Manager is on Medical Leave and of course the Assistant doesn't work on Sundays) and he was apologetic and tried to get me to come back, but I think not. read more

Instead of over charging me, they did the right thing and bled the clutch and charged me so much less than the whole clutch. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Went to get a battery replaced under warranty. Was told the battery leaked out and corroded the negative connection. When I asked if they would replace the wire they refused. So their fix was just to leave the negative end not connected. Only a safety hazard. Talked to corporate and they informed me the issue had been resolved by the store manager. This repair store is very hit or miss service depending who is working on any given day. Several Yelp noted it takes forever for Pep Boys to do a simple task. This is true since the large repair crew is literally playing football right next their customers cars. If they suggest any repair jobs get the measurements in writing. They told me to my face I needed my brake pad replaced($200). I ask them to show me how much was left on the pad and they refuse to. I had a friend mechanic confirm that I in fact had over 70% brake pad life left. You must replace brake pads with 10% life left immediately since there is a risk of an accident and damaging your $1000 brake rotors. I love pretending that I know nothing about cars to gauge how honest these places are. They also suggested a automatic transmission vacuum flush which is huge No-No for certain Honda and against the advice of a Honda Transmission Specialist. If you get your car repair here, you have to supervise the mechanics since the manager aren't doing their job. While your waiting, bring a repair book with you or read some repair how-to on your smartphone. Sometime Pep Boys is honest just to be fair. - 3-Major Strikes Down. read more

Brett was super friendly and helpful, and had the light fixed in less than 15 minutes. While I was there, I observed them assIsting another woman who had questions about her oil.
